In Battle for Azeroth, Hunters have received many different class changes, ranging from Talent changes to Gameplay and Rotational changes. These changes affect all specs, affecting Beast Mastery Hunters, Marksmanship Hunters, and Survival Hunters all alike, so what you knew about DPSing in Legion is likely to be changed.
While there are many new abilities and spells, there are also returning ones, previously removed during pruning. On top of those spells, the legacy from Legion lives on with different
legendary effects and artifact traits
returning in BfA as talents, baked into the core spec, or are now
azerite traits
, the BfA version of artifact traits. Gameplay changes are also happening, as some abilities and spells that could be used together with others are now
added to the GCD
.
Some Legion systems got reworked, like Honor talents, now active while questing with
War Mode
turned on, which also grants bonuses, like 15% extra experience while leveling.
In this overview, we'll highlight all class abilities, as well as new, changed, or removed talents. Grey to green text indicate changes between
Legion
and the current version of
Battle for Azeroth
; more information can be found by going to the Changelog within the relevant spell page. Keep in mind that information is largely derived from the tooltips, so typographical errors may be intentional to match.
Some notable overall changes:
Arcane Torrent and Every Man for Himself changed
.
Two of the strongest racial effects have received changes in BfA, with
奥术洪流
receiving a new effect and added to the GCD and
生存意志
having its cooldown increased.
The majority of class cooldowns have been added to the GCD
.
Abilities that are in the Global Cooldown, or GCD, cannot be used at the same time, meaning you must wait for the default GCD, 1.5s reduced by haste, until you can use your next ability.
Before BfA, many abilities were called "off-GCD" as you could two or more of them at the same time, even in the same button macro. For BfA, Blizzard started to reduce to amount of abilities in this state.
All melee abilities now scale with both Attack Power and Weapon Damage
.
The actual ability damage formula for all non-casters has changed, and now all those abilities use both weapon damage and attack power, even abilities like

This appears to be intended to create a better balance between classes, rather than some favoring weapons heavily (
战士
), while others hardly at all (

).
Bleed and Poison ticks now scale with Haste
.
Bleeds and poisons from

were the only over time effects not affected by haste, which is being changed in Battle for Azeroth.
Hunter pets have set specializations, which offer different types of utility, and several pet families have changed specs

Hunter pets are receiving an overhaul in BfA to improve their utility and streamline their usability.
Battle for Azeroth has a huge stat and ilvl squish.
Battle for Azeroth implements the second stat squish for World of Warcraft, two expansions after the
Warlords of Draenor Squish
.
Unlike Warlords, Battle for Azeroth will also have an item level squish, changing the item level previously found on classic items as well.

I wanted to post a few things about Marksmanship, including a few things in the works.

RNG - there's a lot of talents with randomness in them. We hear the feedback that you feel things are too random. Some things will probably change to be less random in general, others will have some adjustments made to how they proc to prevent the really bad luck streaks from being a thing.

should still be a 12 second recharge time before Haste, I'm unsure why some people are reporting it is showing up as 10 seconds for them. Is this still happening after the build that went up yesterday?
- After lots of discussion and reading feedback and many dungeon runs and raid testing and questing, we have decided that we're going to changed Aimed Shot to 2.5 second cast time, and Steady Shot to 1.75 second cast time.
- Regarding Lone Wolf and Pet Utility, if you have your active pet out, the

button in your spellbook should change into whatever your pet's special ability is, such as

. If you dismiss your pet as a Marksmanship Hunter and opt into

A quick clarification post because I've seen some confusion:
Lone Wolf will ONLY give you the extra Survival of the Fittest button, regardless of what pet you dismissed to get the Lone Wolf effect. It will not change the ability you get depending on your dismissed pet's specialization.

Please be aware that Carve doesn't yet have full talent support. In a future build, things such as

We want to give Survival a clear path to take when there are many enemies, whether that's a group of raptor hatchlings, or a double-pull of trolls in Atal'dazar.

) is often more frustrating than it is fun, and

Survival has a variety of AoE tools through talents, and Carve should add a better foundation for those talents to build around. By reducing

's cooldown it gives you enough to do that spreading

s to numerous targets is far less necessary. It also interacts strongly with the Guerilla Tactics talent, so all of the level 30 talents have a similar level of impact on how you AoE. The short cooldown is there so that your AOE rotation becomes weaving in your other buttons –

Separately, we have a quality-of-life change for

In Battle for Azeroth, each Hunter pet family has a single specialization, any beast from that family will have that specialization and you won't be able to change it. Each specialization has unique abilities:
Ferocity

- Increases haste by 30% for all party and raid members for 40 sec. Allies receiving this effect will become Sated and unable to benefit from Primal Rage or similar effects again for 10 min.

We have tamed all different families on Alpha to test which specialization and abilities each family had and the results are in the table below.
Some notable changes are pets like

s would have access to a Combat Resurrection (from the family ability

) and Bloodlust/Heroism (from the specialization ability

What exactly is this mess going on with Survival Hunters? Do they know what concept they're trying to go with? I mean, I absolutely DESPISE the idea of a melee hunter spec, but I have to respect that at least they committed to it. But now they're backtreading on it, but, like, only part way. It's kind of all over the place now with no solid identity. They're still ostensibly a melee spec and still use a melee weapon, but now they have all these ranged abilities, including Serpent Sting? Are they going to change the idea of SS, because it's currently "Shoot a poisoned arrow at blah blah blah". Shoot an arrow? With WHAT? And they're changing the core theme of the spec, including the mastery, from "attack viciously with your spear", to "attack alongside your pet". Um, isn't that Beast Mastery's shtick? How is Survival now the spec that has Spirit Bond? It's even stolen Kill Command which has ALWAYS been BM's signature attack. Combined with BM switching the Dire Beast and Dire Stable, it's going from being the "summon lots of beasts" back to just "attack alongside your pet". The entire point of the big Legion shakeup was to differentiate the specs, and as much as I hate how they destroyed what was my favorite spec since Wrath, I have to admit that they definitely achieved their aim. But now they're merging SV and BM back to being similar again and I can't figure out why.

In Battle for Azeroth, each Hunter pet family has a single specialization, any beast from that family will have that specialization and you won't be able to change it. Each specialization has unique abilities
so rather than give us more stable slots theyre just gonna force us to say goodbye to our pets we have already by forcing them to be less than worthy specs instead of keeping them as they are >:| way to kill hunters D: no need for various pets now that arent ferocity. if theres no brez for hunters now then thats utterly stupid when hunters can be the last ones left on a raid boss attempt that cant brez a healer anymore and forced to wipe. real productive blizz.

They are really making hell for BM. They placed both

and the new second pet talent on the same line. Not to mention that

now COSTS focus just to use it and if you want it to give focus you need a now level 30 talent. I'm happy with the second pet becoming an option...but seriously...what the hell are they doing? Basically the only good focus generator that we have now is at level 100 with

There is literally nothing wrong with MM hunter as it is, the only problem was that t20 gear was needed. literally no reason to change MM at all

Did I miss something in the write up about exotics and the BM spec? Prior to the patch had no problem taming and using the spirit gryphon at lvl 19. Now The only place can have it is in the stable.... I try to call it... nothing... at the stable, try to put it in a slot, 'you cannot control exotic beasts' ? Did they go back to a while back and had to be higher level before could use and tame exotics or rares?
