Warfront Queue Requirements
You must be level 120 and ilvl 335 to queue for the Darkshore Warfront. If this is your first time getting into Darkshore Warfront content, you will need to complete an introductory questline to unlock access to queue the Battle for Darkshore account-wide. Alliance players may accept the starter quest,
, from
who will appear to you in Boralus. Horde players accept the starter quest,
, from
at the Port of Zandalar.
Effects of Gear
Overall, gear only affects what you can do best to help contribute to the success of the Warfront. Therefore you can focus on gathering resources where your gear does not matter, or help push the front-line and capture bases. As the battle goes on, vehicle support options are available as well allowing you to assist your allies with vehicle combat.
Heroic Warfronts
In Patch 8.3, Visions of N'zoth, a new version of the Darkshore Warfront will be available called
Heroic Warfront
. Heroic Warfronts function mostly the same as the Normal version, in which players will undergo the exact same steps normally and win when they defeat the enemy commander. There are some additional changes, alongside enemies dealing more damage and having more health, in Heroic Warfronts.
Normal and Heroic Differences
The health and damage of all enemies has increased and will scale with the number of players in the Warfront.
The cost of Siege Vehicles has been increased to 160 Iron.
Cordana will occasionally join the fight, assaulting your bases. Due to her being very powerful, you will need most of your raid to repel the assault. When you bring Cordana down to 60% health, it will cause her to hearth back to the safety of their base.
Heroic Warfront Rewards
Upon winning the Heroic version of the Warfront and completing its quest, you will be rewarded an item level 460 piece of the Honorbound set for Horde or 7th Legion set for Alliance which is around the same item level as Heroic Ny'alotha gear.
Quick Tips
The Battle for Darkshore has passive generation of both
and
, therefore maximizing this gain for the entire Warfront will greatly speed up the pacing of the battle. Also doing so will allow more players to focus on battling the enemy while still building and upgrading your base.
The layout of Darkshore streamlines most of the combat through the center of the map, as there is less space between alternate routes for NPCs to take as they push across the battlefield. This makes it easier to protect your base by just holding the center area of the map. As you upgrade your base, friendly NPC troops will be sent more frequently to help make steady progress towards Lor'danel.
Horde vs. Alliance Differences
The Battle for Darkshore is fought from two points of view. Horde players are working to defeat Alliance NPCs, and Alliance players are working to defeat Horde NPCs.
The battle itself will progress the exact same for both factions
; both sides will first set foot on Darkshore to take the Ruins of Auberdine, setup a base at Bashal'aran, and then push the enemy northward and out of Lor'danel where they will destroy the last of the enemy defenses and defeat the enemy commander.
An actual key difference for Alliance players is that
collection is mostly handled passively, as chopping down trees in Darkshore for
is not something your fellow Night Elves would like.
can still be collected in ethical ways as well around the battlefield. Horde players do not passively generate
at as fast a rate, but they have the option of using the Lumberjack's Axe to cut down trees for
.
Everything else functions the same for both factions, but may be skinned and named differently to fit the appropriate faction. For the simplicity of the guide,
all specifics such as building and troop names will have both their Horde and Alliance counterparts listed.
Any name in red represents a Horde building, troop, or NPC. Any name in blue represents an Alliance building, troop, or NPC.
Stage 1: Establishing a Foothold
The beginning stages of the battle have clear objectives that players pursue as they eventually work towards establishing a base in Darkshore. These stages consist mostly of fighting and helping friendly NPCs, however some
and
can be looted early on from enemy creatures or in certain chests/objects.
For Auberdine!
The first step to establishing a foothold is to push the enemy out of Auberdine. A progress bar under your objectives tracker shows progress on this step. Once the bar is filled, an enemy champion will appear and need to be defeated to secure the area.
Clear Enemy Forces from Auberdine.
Defeat
/
.
Clear a Path to Bashal'aran
Once players have defeated the enemy at Auberdine, you will need to rescue some friendly NPCs nearby which will later help you establish a base. Clear the small group of enemies and interact with the friendly NPCs to free them.
Rescue your allies located nearby.
Once you have rescued your allies, you will fight your way to
Bashal'aran
. The allies you saved, along with your commander, must make it to
Bashal'aran
in order to complete this stage. Make sure to assist them in anything they are fighting.
With your allies, clear a path to
Bashal'aran
.
Reclaim Bashal'aran
The final step of Stage 1 is to defeat the enemies at
Bashal'aran
and reclaim it for your faction. Defeat the enemy champion and click the flag to establish a base and begin operations to drive the other faction from Darkshore.
Defeat
/
Reclaim
Bashal'aran
Stage 2: Build and Expand
Once your base has been established, you will be given a Tree of Life / Great Hall automatically. From there you will build the other buildings and upgrade the Tree of Life / Great Hall with
and
collected around the Warfront. The main goal is to build the Glaiveworks / Plagueworks and construct Glaive Throwers / Forsaken Blight Throwers to progress to the final stage of the battle.
If you are new to this Warfront, several quests will appear around
Bashal'aran
that will help you locate your buildings and help you understand the functions of them.
Horde Only: You must loot the Lumberjack's Axe at
Bashal'aran
to gather wood from certain trees. A quick introductory questline is required to loot it if it is your first time doing the Darkshore Warfront on your character. You do not need to capture Cinderfall Grove to harvest wood from trees.
If you have already upgraded your
to be usable in the Darkshore Warfront, you can use it at any point from here on out to return to Bashal'aran quickly. The method of obtaining this upgrade is later in the guide
here.
Capture Lornesta Mine and Cinderfall Grove
Your raid should split up to capture both Lornesta Mine and Cinderfall Grove. The location of Lornesta Mine is safe from enemy attacks, so once captured you should have no trouble keeping control over it. However, Cinderfall Grove is located quite far from the main base and is very vulnerable to attack. Once captured, it is important to keep a lookout for enemy attack waves that approach this location so it can be defended in time.
and
are both generated passively once their related bases are captured. Alliance players start with a passive
generation, capture of Cinderfall Grove further increases this.
Gathering
Alliance Only:
is primarily generated passively, as Alliance players do not bring harm to the forest.
At this point, you want to focus on building up your base to increase the passive resource generation and increase the rate that friendly NPCs are trained to help push the enemy back. Most players should focus on gathering resources in the following ways.
Passively generated
and
is collected from the War Chest at
Bashal'aran
. The amount stored is shown under your objectives tracker in parenthesis.
can be gathered from:
Looted from enemy siege weapons and rare spawns.
Piles of Wood around the map.
Horde Only: Chopping down trees with the Lumberjack's Axe.
can be gathered from:
Looted from enemy siege weapons and rare spawns.
Ore Chests located near Lornesta Mine.
Building
Some buildings require other buildings to be built first before they can be constructed. The overal goal is to be able to build Siege Weapons so the build order should look like this:
Ancient of War / Barracks
Altar of Elders / Altar of Storms
Hunter's Hall / Armory
Tree of Ages / Stronghold
Glaiveworks / Plagueworks
Tree of Eternity / Fortress
Building progress is shown on the Construction Table interface of a building, as well as mousing over the building icons on the map. The amount of
and
required to finish construction is shown as well.
Defending
Defending bases you control is important, as losing a base will not only cause you to lose the benefits of having that base, but also have to commit to recapturing it which takes an unnecessary amount of time. There are several things to look out for to know if a base is in danger of being lost.
Occasionally, enemy Attack Waves will spawn in with a chat notification. The notification will also tell you which road that Attack Wave will travel. This will give you an idea of what bases may be at risk as soon as they spawn in. Enemy Attack Waves are usually the only force strong enough that can take your bases and so they should be handled by a small group of players before they do.
Eastern Road:
Cinderfall Grove
Central Road:
Ashwood Depot
/
Forlorn Crossing
Western Raod:
Gloomtide Strand
When the friendly NPC champion defending a base is attacked, a chat notification is sent to all players of which base is under attack.
A base is lost if your friendly NPC champion dies. This NPC will be named and holding your faction's flag at each base.
If a base is lost, an enemy champion with reinforcements will immediately spawn and need to be defeated to retake the base.
If your commander dies, you lose the battle.
Stage 3: The Northern Shore
Once you have built the Glaiveworks / Plagueworks and constructed your first siege vehicle, if you haven't already, you should begin capturing bases along the center road to allow your siege vehicles to advance towards Lor'danel Landing. Siege weapons are required to destroy the defenses at Lor'danel, as well as the defenses off-shore protecting the enemy commander. Make sure they stay defended from enemy attacks.
Spend your
and
before going on the offense for additional support such as bodyguards at the Ancient of War / Barracks or buffs at the Altar of Elders / Altar of Storms. At this point of the Warfront, you will passively generate resources you may need for later use.
Capture Bases Along the Center Road
The following bases are required to be held by your faction in order for siege weapons to advance:
Forlorn Crossing
Ashwood Depot
Lor'danel
Optionally, you can capture
Gloomtide Strand
for additional troop support as well as summoning an Archdruid / Abomination to help push the front line.
An Archdruid / Abomination at
Gloomtide Strand
costs 100
.
A Chimera / Bat from
Ashwood Depot
costs 100
.
After capturing
Ashwood Depot
, a quest becomes available to upgrade your
to be usable in the Darkshore Warfront. This is very useful to get back to the base to collect and spend resources quickly.
Capture Lor'danel
Once you've captured
Ashwood Depot
and escorted your siege weapons close enough to Lor'danel, your siege weapons will begin firing on the defenses of Lor'danel. In order to capture Lor'danel, the 2 giant
/
must be destroyed and the enemy champion must be defeated before the flag for Lor'danel can be clicked. The
/
have a lot of health, but are vulnerable to damage from siege weapons.
Spend your
and
before going on the offense for additional support such as bodyguards at the Ancient of War / Barracks or buffs at the Altar of Elders / Altar of Storms. At this point of the Warfront, you will passively generate resources you may need for later use.
Destroy the Off-Shore Defenses
Once Lor'daen has been captured, enemy Attack Waves will no longer spawn and your siege weapons will move up to Lor'danel and begin attacking the final layer of enemy defenses off the shore. Players can also contribute to destroying the defenses by interacting with many objects in the area.
One final wave of enemies will fly in at Lor'danel once you capture it, fight them off to keep the siege vehicles alive and the foothold held.
Tool Barrels can be found at Lor'danel to repair damage siege vehicles.
Players may do bombing runs, throw bombs, and fire ballistas at the enemy defenses off shore.
Attempting to approach the Dredge before the defenses are destroyed will cause you to take massive damage.
Defeat the Enemy Commander
Once the defenses have been destroyed, a flight will become available at Lor'danel that will take you to the Dredge. There your commander will be waiting to engage the enemy commander. Wait until your raid has all arrived and then talk to your commander to start the encounter. Defeating the enemy commander will end the Battle for Darkshore in victory.

Minor error, Trouble in Darkshore for the Horde comes from Dark Ranger Velonara by the warfront table, not Nathanos.

Last paragraph, "Defeat the Enemy Commander" - no mention of the "Enemy Commander" on Heroic who kills raid members repeatedly with the row and column of fire damage ("Burn Horde scum"). I've done this several times as Horde with the raid leader yelling to stay off the steps (boss does reset) and to pick up the dropped glaive which is supposed to interrupt the fire damage. I've never seen any glaives, although I've heard the audio that the boss has dropped one.

Doesn't mention a single thing about how to queue for Heroic Darkshore?

If you're going to be doing a Heroic Warfront, make sure to pick up both the Heroic
and
the normal version quests, as completing a Heroic will count for the normal quest. Two birds, one stone!

You must be level 120 and ilvl 335
After the level squish (9.0), you must be ilvl 60

Appears to be bugged currently (patch 9.2.7). For Horde at least, Maiev just resets during battle and you can't complete it.
