This strategy guide covers how to defeat the High Botanist Tel'arn boss encounter and notable trash on all difficulties. High Botanist Tel'arn can be found in the Shal'dorei Terrace, after passing through Astromancer's Rise. He is one of the five bosses in the Nighthold's main terrace that can be engaged in any order:

Tichondrius (Captain's Quarters)
Most groups will fight Tel'arn as the sixth boss, defeating Spellblade Aluriel first, and then killing Star Augur Etraeus inside the Astromancer's Rise before passing through to Shal'dorei Terrace.
High Botanist Tel'arn is the third boss of the

– High Botanist Tel'arn uses Arcane, Nature, and Solar magic to defend his garden. When he reaches 75% and 50% health remaining he divides his energy, creating empowered forms that focus in a particular school of magic. This division removes High Botanist Tel'arn's access to that school of magic, but the empowered form gains new abilities.

High Botanist Tel'arn Abilities
This guide provides tips and strategies for defeating the

encounter on Normal difficulty. Changes to the fight for Looking for Raid, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties are listed below in their respective sections, including suggestions for dealing with the new mechanics introduced in these difficulties.
The High Botanist Tel'arn encounter is a three-phase fight involving priority target switching, controlled DPS on certain adds, and moderate to heavy movement. As the fight progresses, the boss will summon a second and third 'clone' of itself. These clones are health-linked, so players should use multi-DoT and cleave mechanics to the raid's advantage. Save

Phase 1: The High Botanist
Solar Collapse starts out quite large......but quickly converges on the target's positionHigh Botanist Tel'arn begins the encounter with access to one Arcane ability (

Early in the encounter, and about every 35 seconds thereafter, High Botanist Tel'arn will cast

at a random player's position.

creates a ring of 12 solar flares around the targeted player's location, initially at a large radius
Two seconds later, the flares will detonate, dealing heavy damage to players within 4 yards of their locations
A new set of flares will spawn in a smaller ring, detonating after 0.5 seconds
The ring continue to rapidly shrink and detonate until it collapses on a single point in the targeted player's original location
Players struck by the first 1-2 waves of the
阳光坍缩
will likely survive. Beyond that, the flares are so close together that players are likely to be hit by more than one detonation at once, and instantly die.
As soon as the
阳光坍缩
spawns, all players inside its area should run out between two of the flares. Use a movement-speed boost if you are closer to the middle than the edge, and use a defensive cooldown if you are unlikely to make it out in time.
Parasitic Fetters
Parasitic Fixate targets must kite!

There are no mechanical differences in the Looking for Raid version of the encounter.

Heroic Difficulty
There are no mechanical differences in the Heroic version of the encounter, apart from that the boss has a larger health pool, and abilities now deal a larger amount of damage.
Mythic Difficulty
Mythic starts with 3 weak bosses, and whittles down to one superpowered bossOn Mythic difficulty, High Botanist Tel'arn is split into this three images from the start of the fight. The three no longer share health pools. Killing one of Tel'arn's images will heal the remaining two to full health, and add extra mechanics to each of their abilities. This inverts the order of the fight compared to Normal/Heroic mode, consolidating mechanics into fewer enemies until only one image remains.
Three tanks are recommended, but two tanks may be possible with strong tank healing and good coordination of CDs.
The beginning of this encounter plays out like the final 50% of the Normal/Heroic mode encounter: there are three enemies, and they each have their own set of abilities.

My raid group attempted Botanist on normal and we were getting two lashers with each fetter cast. Was only one lasher spawning on the PTR for normal?

It has worked a couple of times on my lvl 120 Warrior and lvl 120 Demon Hunter. In Recount it says that Parasitic Fetter has been dispelled by "Restoration". Just be aware that the tooltip of the potion clearly states that there is a "reduced chance against effects inflicted by enemies higher than level 42", so it might not work every time. But the potion has not failed for me yet, so maybe it has a higher chance of succeding when used against targets that are lower levels than your toon? Just a guess... But give it a chance - you might get lucky ;)
Warriors
, by the way, can use
Bladestorm
to prevent
Parasitic Fetter
. But as
Parasitic Fetter
can be cast in quick succession you might not have your
Bladestorm
off cooldown the second time around, making
Restorative Potion
come in handy.
Death Knights
can us
Wraith Walk

Druids
can use shapeshifting.
Paladins
can use bubble and
Blessing of Freedom
.
Mages
can blink and Iceblock.
Rogues
can use Cloak of Shadow. So most classes have an ability that can counter this spell, at least once during the fight.
But for classes that don't have an ability that counter
Parasitic Fetter
(e.g. Demon Hunters), or when
Parasitic Fetter
is cast twice in a row,
Restorative Potion
might be worth giving a try.

Unable to solo in heroic as 120 havoc demon hunter (ilevel 408) due to
Parasitic Fetter
disabling too many crucial DH abilities—including
Fel Rush
,
Vengeful Retreat
,
Metamorphosis
and
Blade Dance
. Being unable to generate much fury takes away
Eye Beam
as well. I've soloed him successfully in normal, but with most of my dps disabled I can't burn him fast enough to survive the root in heroic. Any 120 ranged or any melee with a dispel should be able to do it easily with sub-400 gear.

I am a very casual player, no gear and little knowledge. I just soloed on a
very squishy lvl 55 Demonology Warlock
after reading a buried tip on Bliz forums. He killed me three times before learning about the tip, but on the fourth try, I changed to my Imp and made a macro:
/cast Singe Magic
. Every time he rooted me, I hit my macro and ran like hell, doing all the damage I could and draining life to keep from dying. It took a while, but this worked on the first try. Oh, and I cleared the area of trash beforehand because I knew I would need to run around and didn't want to pull anything extra. I wish you the best. You may have to dig, but hopefully every class has special skill, spell/pet spell, or potion to help you take down this menace.

ilevel 200 BM Hunter. Can't burn down the third one fast enough to solo Mythic. Oh, well.
