The Horrific Vision of Stormwind consists of 5 objectives and is filled with dangerous creatures that will drain your sanity. Learn about the objectives, the dangerous abilities and the bosses in each zone to prepare for your run through the Horrific Vision of Stormwind.
Overview of the Horrific Vision of Stormwind
The Horrific Vision of Stormwind consists of 5 objectives, 1 objective for each district of Stormwind City.
Your main objective is to defeat
Alleria Windrunner
located in the Cathedral, which will end the Horrific Vision
You are free to venture into the other districts to complete side objectives for increased rewards, however It is recommended that you have ranked up your cloak as well as having some titanic research upgrades before attempting additional objectives.
Horrific Visions consist of 3 tiers of areas that the player can explore.
Every week,
one
city is available to queue: either Stormwind or Orgrimmar. Players cannot chose which city they wish to run. Interacting with the gateway in the Chamber of Heart will let you know ahead of time which Horrific Vision is available this week. You can also view the map when you first enter the vision to find out which vision you are about to do.
Tainted Areas in the Horrific Vision of Stormwind
The "Tainted Area" of a Horrific Vision is the first tier and the area that players start when entering a Horrific Vision. Tainted Areas are generally easier than the others because they have the lowest passive sanity drain and the madness affixes that exist in these areas provide to be more of a minor nuisance and relatively neutral in terms of difficulty.

Your spells and abilities cause you to shift between fast time and slow time. Fast time causes time to pass 30% faster, speeding up buff and debuff timers and causing you to cast, attack, and move faster.

Periodically you will damage all allies and enemies nearby and heal yourself for a small amount based on how many targets you hit.

Periodically summons a zone of power. Standing in it will increase damage dealt by 25%. Failing to stand in it will reduce your damage dealt by 10%.
Cathedral Square in the Horrific Vision of Stormwind

Cathedral Square is where players begin when entering a Horrific Vision.
Objective
Defeat
Alleria Windrunner
The main objective of the Horrific Vision is located inside the Cathedral. Defeating
Alleria Windrunner
inside the Cathedral will
instantly end
the Horrific Vision and take you to a location where you can collect the loot from your run.
Approaching the front of the Cathedral, roleplay will occur between Alleria and Turalyon and then Alleria will enter the interior of the Cathedral. To enter the Cathedral, you'll need to defeat the 2 guards just outside which will open the path inside. Further roleplay awaits once you enter and then you'll be able to engage Alleria. Remember, defeating Alleria Windrunner will end the Horrific Vision immediately, regardless if you have not completed any secondary objectives so only pull Alleria when you're ready to be done.
Alleria is considered the "boss" of this area and she has several abilities worth noting. Alleria will also become more powerful for every extra objective that you've completed around Stormwind.
Alleria gains 10% increased health and an additional ability for each bonus objective completed.

- Shoots an arrow above players which then explodes and showers the area below with shadow magic.

- Deals massive shadow damage and drains 240 Sanity from all players in line of sight when the cast completes.
Hard Mode Abilities

- Occasionally transforms a random player into a void corrupted sheep, forcing them to wander around and be unable to attack for 4 seconds.

if players have completed the Mage Quarter objective prior to engaging her.

- Throws explosives towards random players that detonate after 5 seconds. Inflicts massive fire damage and drains 90 Sanity of all players within 9 yards. In addition, a pool of fire remains where the bomb detonated, inflicting fire damage and draining 30 Sanity every second to players in the area.

Corrupted Areas in the Horrific Vision of Stormwind
The 2nd tier of areas players can explore is the "Corrupted Area". These areas are more difficult than the starting area as the passive sanity drain for being in the area increases, and the madness affixes actively make your exploration more difficult.
These areas are the first you will want to explore after having obtained a few Rank ups on your cloak and some Titanic Research upgrades. I recommend you do not enter these areas until you have ranked up your cloak to Rank 3 or have the first Titanic Research upgrade.

疯狂:昆虫恐惧症
While in combat, you gain stacks of a debuff representing the amount of bugs on you. After reaching 5 stacks, you will be forced to run forward for 5 seconds. Jumping removes stacks.
疯狂:黑暗幻象
Occasionally summons a shadowy vision of yourself that will pursue you. If it touches you, you will take heavy shadow damage and be stunned for 4 seconds.
疯狂:目光短浅
While in combat, you can only see enemies and allies within 20 yards of you. This restricts your ability to attack enemies and heal your allies beyond that range.
疯狂:灼热跳跃
Occasionally you feel hot, causing your movement to force you to leap over a pool of fire. This pool of fire then becomes an obstacle that will deal damage and drain sanity of players that stand in it.

The Dwarven District is a tier 2 area of the Horrific Vision of Stormwind City, making it one of the first additional objectives players can attempt to complete once they have ranked up their cloak and obtained some research upgrades.
The first objective of this area actually takes place just outside the Corrupted Area, between Cathedral Square and the Dwarven District. You'll need to rescue Kelsey Steelspark from 3 Brainwashed Gnomes.
Once you've rescued Kelsey, you'll enter the Dwarven District and will need to plant 8 Bombs at set locations around the area. The locations will be marked on the map and it is up to you what path you take and what enemies you need to defeat to plant the bombs.
Be careful of
锻炉卫士胡路尔
, who is positioned near the Blacksmith area in the center of the district. You are not required to defeat Forge Guard Hurrul, however he is close to one of the locations where you need to plant a bomb.
Once all 8 bombs have been placed, you'll be able to interact with a detonator located along the path to the southeast exit of the district. Doing so will spawn in the "boss" of this area,
瑟鲁姆·深炉
. Defeating Therum completes the objective of the Dwarven District and provide an additional chest at the end of the Horrific Vision.
A portal to Cathedral Square is provided nearby after defeating Therum.

Rescue 8 Captives
The Trade District is a tier 2 area of the Horrific Vision of Stormwind City. Much like the Dwarven District, this is one of the first additional objectives players can attempt to complete once they have ranked up their cloak and obtained some research upgrades.
Your first objective is to defeat
审判官达克斯比
who is holding Halford Wyrmbane captive. Head to the area marked on your map and defeat the Inquisitor.
Once you defeat Darkspeak, you'll be tasked to defeat
奴隶主奥洛克
who is the "boss" of this area. Ul'rok is located near the main entrance to Stormwind, within the trade district.
Defeating Ul'rok will then allow players to free the captives in cages scattered across the Trade District. There are 8 captives total that need to be rescued and they are marked on the minimap. Once all 8 have been rescued, the objectives of the Trade District are complete and an additional chest will be provided at the end of the Horrific Vision.

- Channels onto a player, inflicting shadow damage and 10 Sanity damage ever 1.5 seconds for 6 seconds. Interruptible.

. Silencing all players and begins pulling them towards him. If players are pulled too close, they are stunned for 5 seconds and take 200 Sanity damage.
Often, Ul'rok summons a shadow tentacle that will strike players in a line.
Lost Areas in the Horrific Vision of Stormwind
The "Lost Areas" of a Horrific Vision make up the 3rd tier of area. They are also the most difficult areas to explore with several elites that players have to contend with and a high rate of passive sanity drain. In addition, the madness affixes can cause some very difficult situations, especially with some of the mechanics on the elites.
It is highly recommended you only attempt Lost Areas after having upgraded your cloak to Rank 5 and you have at least 1-2 Sanity Orbs to spare.

Occasionally you are encircled by images of yourself, with only 1 section of the circle free for you to escape. Touching one of the images will disorient you for 6 seconds.

Occasionally a small amount of damage you deal to enemies is redirected back at you.

Occasionally players create a shadow image of themselves at their current location. After 4 seconds, that image explodes, forcing all nearby players to run in fear.

Old Town is a tier 3 area of the Horrific Vision of Stormwind, and potentially one of the most difficult areas in the vision.
You'll meet up with Valeera and your first task is to obtain the keys from

in order to gain access to the SI:7 Headquarters.
Be careful as many enemies are hidden in stealth and apply a nasty poison that reduces cast speed significantly. As you fight through Old Town, the first of the elites you will encounter will be

Continue along the path and you will reach

, near the entrance to the headquarters.
Once both elites have been killed, you'll need to bypass Shaw's security, which requires both monoliths to be activated near the same time. If you are with friends, coordinate with them to activate the monoliths at the same time. If you are tackling this solo, Valeera will handle one of them. Make sure Valeera is with you and not fighting any NPCs.
Past the gates, the "boss" of this area,
马迪亚斯·肖尔大王
, is hidden in stealth, walk around a bit and he should attack you. Defeating Shaw will complete the objective for Old Town, providing you with an additional chest at the end of the Horrific Vision.

The Mage Quarter is a tier 3 area of the Horrific Vision of Stormwind City, making it one of the most difficult areas to explore but also providing a bigger reward if you manage to complete the objective.
Your first task is to close 5 Void Portals scattered about the Mage Quarter. To do this, you will have to defeat 4 Portal Keepers near these portals as well as
黑爪加尔德斯
, an elite who guards the western most portal, and a
无尽腐蚀
, an elite that patrols around the tower. The locations of the portals are marked on your minimap and you are free to navigate through this area and close them in any order you choose.
While traveling through The Mage Quarter, Zardeth will continually summon adds that patrol around the area until players approach his location.
Once all 5 Void Portals are closed, make your way to the Mage Tower and into the Stormwind Portal Room. In the portal room, you will fight
魔导师乌布里克
, the "boss" of this area. Killing him will complete the objective of The Mage Quarter and provide you with an additional chest to open in the reward room when the Horrific Vision ends.
Once Magister Umbric has been defeated, a portal is provided for you near the entrance of the portal room that will take you back to a safe location at Cathedral Square.

Zardeth guards one of the portals required to complete Step 1 of the objective. In addition, he continually summons

Magister Umbric is the final objective of the Mage Quarter and will only appear once you have closed the 5 Void Portals scattered around the area.

Step-By-Step Route

Clear to the front of the
Cathedral
and kill the 2 guards just outside the entrance to the Cathedral. This will unlock entryway into the Cathedral so you don't have to worry about it later.
Head towards the
Dwarven District
first and complete its objective. Once you enter the district, check the building just left of the entrance for a hidden 10% damage buff. If the door is open, sneak between the teleportation mines to the 2nd floor and walk over the buff mine. Continue the objective as normal.
After defeating
瑟鲁姆·深炉
and completing the Dwarven District, exit the district through the gateway behind where you just fought the boss. Head towards
Old Town
and complete its objective. Be careful of the 2 stealthed adds in the gateway entrance to Old Town.
Old Town is one of the most dangerous districts, take it slow. As you enter, make sure you kill
武器大师泰伦森
on the right at the fork. Once you kill her, go back and clear through Old Town down the path to the left of the entrance. Clear all the enemies along the path and finish the objective.
After defeating Shaw, take the portal nearby back to the Stormwind Cathedral. Now head towards the
Trade District
for the next objective.
BONUS:

patrols around the
Trade District
, if you happen to catch him passing by, you can defeat him. You'll need to separate him from his toys however. He is classified as an Elite so you'll benefit from

Once you enter the district go left and work on the objective as normal. The Trade District objective is a fairly straight forward and you will have to kill almost all the enemies throughout the district to complete the final step of the objective. If the door to the Stormwind Bank is open, you can go inside and kill the

for a 10% critical strike chance buff.
Once you've finished business in the Trade District, exit and head towards the final objective, the
Mage Quarter
.
The
Mage Quarter
is a complex district with its objectives scattered around. I prefer to go right as you enter the district and then follow the path straight towards the center of the district where the Mage Tower is. On your way you can tag a Portal Keeper on your left, before you enter the center of the area.
When you reach the center of the Mage Quarter, kill the elite and the 2 portal keepers in the area around the Mage Tower. After that, you only have 2 more portal keepers to go and they aren't that far. Kill them both then finish out the rest of the objective by heading into the Mage Tower.
After defeating
魔导师乌布里克
, take the portal provided to the Stormwind Cathedral and head inside to defeat
Alleria Windrunner
. She will be a bit more difficult to defeat since you've cleared all the other objectives.

so im still kind of confused, if I am just a casual player that doesnt care how long the cloak upgrade takes but still wants to make SOME progress, can I just defeat Alleria and get out? If so how long will this take and is this a solo queue?
I heard this is similar to the withered army training?

Not much of a "Strategy" guide...
I expected something more along the lines of: Week 1, get your cloak. Solo - you can expect to only get this far, better just kill the boss and collect reward. 5-man group: here's what you can expect to accomplish. Week 2 - now you can get this far, here's a good order to do things in the vision, etc...
How much sanity do we start with? 100? 500? 1000?
At 6 Sanity drain/sec in the first area, we'd need 1800 to last 5 minutes with no sanity protection.
How long are we expected to be in the visions at the beginning, 3 weeks in, 6 weeks in?
This is just an information post on what found inside the vision with no real outlined strategy on how to tackle things, IMO...

As of 1/9/2020 on the PTR the sanity drain has been upped to 6 in tainted, 8 in corrupted, 12 in lost areas.

This "guide" is grossly lacking some key information, like how to actually deal with some mechanics. Linking spells a boss casts doesn't tell much in regard to how to deal with them. For example Chains of Servitude, does it have a max range? is there a strategy to avoid it like LoS or running out of range during cast? or do you just suck it up and get stunned and lose 200 sanity no matter what?
EDIT. Just to noting the guided did add a LOT more info since this comment, so it's a bit dated. Always room for it to improve though. :)

Pretty surprised that the guide suggests full clears as early as rank 5 cloak.
I have a rank 6 cloak and i am just able to clear one bonus objective, not even dreaming of a full clear anytime soon. Usually drop my first sphere halfway into the first bonus objective, second near the end, and the third before I engage the boss.
I guess more cloak upgrades and tech tree will eventually get us there, but I can't imagine doing a full clear at rank 5. Is this assuming mythic gear or something?
At least for this week, the Madness that causes you to randomly jump forward (for Horrific Vision of Stormwind) is absolutely infuriating. It makes it really hard to get much dps uptime on anything as a melee and frequently throws you into packs of mobs.

I tried Stormwind for the first time, didn't play on PTR. Got rocked really badly trying to do two side objectives whereas with Orgimmar I could do 2 solo easily. So I'm thinking I'll just bank my keys when Stormwind is up and use them when Orgrimmar is the vision. It feels like time required for Stormwinds paths for the objectives are just WAY longer, the mobs are harder, and the insanity penalties are way more disruptive, so the passive sanity drain just traveling around and extending fight lengths kills your timer. Is there any real downside other than maybe being behind one week at the end to this strat?

For the Mage Quarter, the Boundless Corruption *IS* required. If you don't kill it, a blue barrier will prevent you from entering the Mage Tower to kill Umbric. Hopefully this saves someone else from losing a vessel like I did.

Be careful of Forge-Guard Hurrul, who is positioned near the Blacksmith area in the center of the district.
You are not required to defeat Forge Guard Hurrul,
however he is close to one of the locations where you need to plant a bomb.
Can't confirm this. Yesterday I tried to stay as far away from him as possible by clinging to the wall on the right, but when I was in reach of the bomb spot, he attacked immediately. Maybe it was possible on PTR, but I don't think it's possible on the live servers.

I'm sure this question is answered somewhere, but I couldn't find it. If i'm able to get some of the "bonus" areas (lost and/or corrupted areas) do I still have to kill the main boss in the tainted area to get credit? Or can I simply clear the areas I want and then leave if I'm short on sanity.

I am destruction warlock ilevel 450 cloak was 10 and i completed(solo) 2 corrupted and 1 lost(Shaw) area then killed Alleria. Maybe you laugh to me but i am... i am trembling all over while doing visions :(

The guide / description of the Stormwind Vision is very good, and thanks for posting it. Certainly helped me increase my efficiency when running.
I would add / change a little bit of the flow relative to the way to progress through to increase a runs efficiency relative to sanity/time and collected mementos.
1. Once you portal in, there are three consecutive mobs directly in front. At the far end, after fighting through those three mobs, on the ground is a dead body with a note and potion next to him/her. This potion for that run is effectively the sanity drain (-100 sanity) for that entire vision throughout all the zones. All other potions are either boosts, or sanity increase (+100). An example would be if the bad potion next to the dead body/note was "Black", for the rest of the run any "Green" potion would give you +100 sanity each time you consume it. These can be consumed while mounted, and I have found as many as 5 per run of the +100. That is essentially a 1/2 an orb worth of extra run time. 2. In the "Tainted Area", there is a chance for one of two buffs available to help your run. I saw mention of a few buffs in the guide, but not these specifically, and they are extremely easy to get but helpful overall since you use them the duration of the run. The first is in the building directly behind where the first bad potion is. If the door is not barricaded, kill the mob inside for a 60 Minute buff (I think versatility increase). The second is in the building to the left just prior to heading towards the Dwarven District. There is sort of a stealthed bear inside, kill him, then he spawns several adds. Kill them all for a buff. There is a guide for all the buffs for Orgrimmar, written again by Squishei, however I have not seen one for Stormwind. Assume there is one, or it will likely be created this week. Either way, you will be able to get one of the two buffs that will help throughout the entirety of the vision.
3. I largely ignore the 2 guards in front of the Cathedral until the end for two reasons. One, they have stun that if for whatever reason they both trigger at once and you don't dodge/miss, will hit you good. Two, they aren't horrible or tough to burn down... but I have found that once you get past the need for the first few quests for the cloak, Alleria is largely an elective boss at that point. Yes, she drops the big chest with a chance at gear, but you are mainly in there for mementos and quest items for the most part at a certain point. My opinion is, they aren't going anywhere, they will be there when you get back as soon as you port from your last location, kill them and top off if you have an orb remaining prior to Alleria.
4. Last, be on the lookout for the Crystals scattered throughout each zone. I believe there is 2 per zone, for a total of 10 for the entire run. Your first crystal counts as 20 mementos, then they scale up from there. Collecting all 10 is in the neighborhood of 450 crystals. These are turned in via an NPC right next to the Cathedral. He is an Ethereal Trader in the building next to the building with the stealthed bear buff NPC mentioned back in bullet point #2. Be aware, he takes the crystals and leaves behind a chest. You must loot the chest in order to obtain the mementos into your overall total.
Again, these are just my preferred routes or suggestions. Assume as things change and become easier down the road... that they will likely change as well. Thanks again for the overall guide! It helped me greatly in getting started out and familiar with the zone!

Head towards the Dwarven District first and complete its objective. Once you enter the district, check the building just left of the entrance for a hidden 10% damage buff. If the door is open, sneak between the teleportation mines to the 2nd floor and walk over the
buff mine
. Continue the objective as normal.
What does the buff mine look like exactly? And how far up the stairs is it?
I'm trying to get to the top of the stairs but it's impossible it appears.

Don't know why it surprised me at the time given how screwed up fears (getting players stuck in things since 2004) are but the flamebreath buff wore off on me while in the Stormwind Bank and I ran through the metal grills into the area the tellers are and couldn't get back out.

Man, the Mage Quarter can get confusing. The underpasses are hard to interpret on the map, some buildings you can pass through - others not, and normal landmarks are gone in the Horrific Vision (like an apple tree is gone and replaced by a stump). It can be surprisingly disorientating when you are also running around with your hair (sanity) on fire.
