What is WeakAuras?
What is WeakAuras? WeakAuras (WA) is an WoW addon that allows extreme customizability for nearly any bit of information you could want in your UI and you can find it
here
. You can also check out the
Official WeakAuras Community
Discord as well for tips.
What can WeakAuras do? WeakAuras can show you any information that is available to you in a way that you choose. This could be anything from how many stacks of
主宰
you have to how much time is left on your interrupt, to an alert when you are low on mana. WeakAuras is for changing the way that information is displayed to make it easier to see. There is so much you can do with this that it's easier to tell you what WeakAuras can't do.
WeakAuras can't do things for you. You might be able to make it say something in a whisper or a yell but WeakAuras cannot be used to make macros or automate any gameplay for you (which is against the rules anyway). WeakAuras can't get information for you that you don't already have access too, but as we'll see there isn't much you don't have a way of getting.
What does this guide cover? This is a basic guide that covers the introductory pieces of WeakAuras. There will not be any custom coding of WeakAuras and we're going to leave out the more complicated options alone for now, along with a couple of the most recently added features (stop motion/slants). Anything that's easy to use with drop downs or boxes to fill in will be explained and there will be a few examples along the way.
Auras, the things you're seeing
There are two categories of things that you can make in WeakAuras, with many options for each. Everything that WeakAuras can put on your screen is called an Aura. This is similar to player buffs and debuffs which are also known as Auras. You can make static, unchanging images or text or you can make ones that change and update based on something's value. For example, you can have a bar that fills up as you gain more insanity on your shadow priest or empties itself as your flame shock runs down.
Where to begin?
Before we talk about what goes into an Aura lets see what we're looking at. To open WeakAuras simply type '/wa' into your chat bar and hit enter. This pulls up everything you need for WeakAuras. This is split into two sections, the left is Auras you already have, and the right is the setting for those auras. Anywhere you see the weird dragon eye you can turn the visibility on or off temporarily while the options are opened. If you don't have any Auras already, you'll need to make a new one. At the top of the left panel, there's a 'New' button, which will show you all the kinds of Auras you can make. The first thing to do when you decide to make a new Aura is to figure out what display type (Icons/Bars/etc.) you want and what you want it to track for you, the thing you want to track is referred to as a trigger. You can learn more about each display type in the Auras sections, and more about the Triggers further down in the Triggers section, but you should already have a general idea of what it is you want to keep an eye on.
Icons and Textures
Auras that do not change while they are showing are usually textures or icons. Text Auras can also be made but they usually have updating information, and so don't always fit here. These kinds of auras are made for events that are either happening or not. For example, either your
鲁莽
cooldown is ready, or it's not. Either your
影灼之牙
has proc'd and you have one of its buffs, or it hasn't. A lot of these can also be expressed by their dynamic counterparts if you want more information from them, such as a bar showing how much time is left on the trinket buff.
Icons and Textures are almost identical. Icons have a bit more information so we'll be using them as a base, textures only vary slightly and are named similarly.
Cooldown. Available for all icons but not textures. This setting will have the familiar cooldown wheel normally seen on the action bar but on the aura. Check this if you want it. If this is checked an 'Inverse' option will appear letting you select the direction of the cooldown graphic.
Color. You can tint the icon or texture a certain color if you want, usually more useful with textures since they aren't as detailed. Click the box to mess around with the color option
Texture/Icon. This is the actual image you'll be seeing. With icons, you can check the automatic icon box to let the Aura decide which icon to show based on the trigger or pick your own. Textures you must select it yourself.
Desaturate. This will take all the color out of the image making it grey-scale.
Glow. This adds the glow effect around the aura similar to when you have a spell proc that lights up an ability on your keyboard such as when your
手枪射击
is free.
Those are the options that both have, but Icons have a few extra options. You are allowed to have your icons also show text on them. This can be anything from telling you not to release spirit to show the amount of time left on
逆风收割者
and they have a few options as well. In this list, I'm also going to include a few extra options specific to Icons that aren't necessarily text but fit right in beside them.
Text Checkbox. If you don't want text you can simply turn it off by unchecking the box.
The actual text you want to put in the box. You can write whatever you want here but there are also some cool things to write in that gets data from what you are tracking. If you mouseover it the specifics are there but we'll come back to this a bit later. If you want to have fancy text in here you can write custom code, though that's not covered in this guide.
Color. Same as before you get to pick the color. Same box, same window.
Text Position. Where do you want the text to go? You can also tell it to put the text outside the icon.
Font. Lots of choices here. Any font from the drop down box is available
Size. How big do you want the font?
Outline. This one isn't all that noticeable all the time, but turning on the outline might make the text easier to see. this is specifically for the text and not the rest of the Aura.
Time Precision. This will only show up if what's in your text box has decimal points in its numbers. So something like the absorb value on your
萨瓦里克的杰作
won't have it but the cooldown on your
狂野怒火
will. Mostly to say whether or not you want to see the decimal points in your numbers.
Zoom. You can zoom in on the icon to change the way it looks. It's easiest to see what this does by moving the slider but it really does just zoom in on the icon's picture.
Sticky Duration. This will force the maximum value to remain fixed even when the aura gets refreshed or the duration gets modified.
Progress Bars and Textures
Auras that do change as they are being displayed are often referred to as Dynamic. Progress textures and progress bars are the primary types of Auras you'll see here. These kinds of auras are made for things that have durations or more granular unformation. For example, maybe you want to track how much time is left on your
强击光环
cooldown or how much longer your
冰霜之柱
will be active. Sometimes you need to know just how long something will be available to you, instead of just whether it is or not.
As you can see there aren't a whole lot of options here, but they have some odd names.
Foreground/Background Texture: This is where you pick which texture you want your Aura to look like. There are a lot of options and the 'choose' button underneath them will bring up all of your options. It is possible to select different textures but usually, you'll just want to keep them the same. That's what the 'same' checkbox is for. The Mirror option flips the texture around left to right, and desaturate is the same as previously where it makes the texture grayscale.
Blend mode: This changes the texture a bit by either amping up the colors on it so they look a bit more like they glow, or making their backgrounds solid if the texture has that.
Background Offset: Changes the relative size of the background texture in comparison to the foreground texture.
Orientation: This setting sets where the texture fills from. If you set it Right to left, the right side is considered full. The inverse checkbox will reverse the direction, but the filled side will always remain the same.
Color: You can change the tint of the Texture, similar to the static images from earlier.
Recenter/Crop/Etc: These will change depending on which Orientation you've chosen. These are settings specifically for the texture. In the example shown you can bring the sides in and cut off the edges of the texture or move it from the center. You can also spin the texture around, fill direction will remain the same.
Sticky Duration: This setting forces a max duration of the Aura. This is usually helpful when a buff or debuff gets small boosts to its duration. Normally when it gets refreshed the maximum duration of the Aura is now the refreshed duration instead of the original one, which can cause a lot of jittering and might make you think a buff has longer left than it really does.
Smooth Progress: Normally every frame the bar is updated to its new position, but with this setting turned on it will zoom towards it over a few frames. Can make things look a bit nicer.
There are a
lot
of options for progress bars, luckily a very large portion of it is duplicated for the second text option.
Bar Texture: First thing is what the bar will actually look like. If you select the drop-down menu here all of the options will be stylized the way they will look on the Aura.
Left/Right Text: Similar to other auras you can set up your own text on this. Mouseover to get the special characters to get information from the thing you're tracking. By default, the name of the spell is on the left and the progress value is on the right.
Time Precision: If you have a time value in your text you'll be able to select how many decimal places your numbers will show. Keep in mind that progress bars are generally fairly small and you'll want to avoid cluttering the bar too much.
Orientation: Changes which side is considered the 'filled in' side. This is also where you can change the bar to be either horizontal or vertical.
Set Minimum/Maximum Progress: If you want a specific value to be considered the highest or lowest value this is where you can set it. For example, if you consider anything more than 30 minutes left on your
耳语契约合剂
full duration, you can set that here.
Sticky Duration: This setting forces a max duration on the Aura.
Icon: This is where you can change your icon settings. This includes whether or not you even want one, which icon shows and which side of the bar it is on.
Bar Color: Change the color of the bar's foreground and background. By default, the background is set to be fully transparent.
Spark: A spark is an extra highlight at the end of the bar that shows where the boundary between the filled in and empty portions of the bar area.
Border: You can add a border around the bar with the settings here. Selecting this adds a few options to the page that let you select what that border looks like.
Text settings: Here is where you can turn the texts on or off. You can also change the text color, the font, and whether or not it's outlined.
Groups
There are two kinds of groups, but both are very similar. Regular old groups are just for collecting multiple Auras into an umbrella that lets you modify them together and move them all while keeping their relative positions in-tact. Dynamic groups, on the other hand, give the control of ordering and moving the auras to the group itself. This is helpful when you want to sort auras. When you have the group selected any changes made will also affect all of the Auras that belong to that group. For example, if you have a group of icons and want to make all of them bigger you can go to the group's display options and change the width and height, which will change all of the Auras in the group to that new setting. This will overwrite settings in the Auras so you must be careful when making changes here. Any option highlighted in blue means that the options are not the same for all of the Auras in the group which means you need to be
extra
careful when changing these as it will again overwrite the setting in the Aura to match the group setting. Once more for good measure:
Be extremely careful changing group settings, you may drastically alter Auras inside that group
Lastly to add an aura to a group click the arrow on the right of the Aura's listing in the options page, and then click on the group you want to assign it to. This will move the Aura around and assign it to the group.
Regular Groups
Regular groups don't offer much in the way of managing groups aside from keeping them in the same position relative to each other while moving them around the screen. You can also use the group settings to organize your Auras a bit. A great example of this is setting up a couple auras for some class abilities, let's say you want to put both
狂暴
and
猛虎之怒
right beside each other so you can try and line them up together. It's a good idea to put them in a group so that if you need to change their size later on, you can change both at the same time. There really is only 1 option for groups, and that's how to space things. You can make the group rearrange everything for you by adjusting the distribute or space values.
Dynamic Groups
Dynamic groups have a lot of the same benefits but they go one step further. They will move the auras around automatically depending on which ones are active. There are some pretty cool things you can do with this such as have all of your available cooldowns on one side, and all of your unavailable ones on the other. The dynamic group can sort these for you if you've set it up properly in the first place. Another example is being able to check a large number of buffs or debuffs that you want to track and sort them by duration remaining, so you can see which ones fade first that need refreshing.
腐蚀术
and
痛楚
are both about to run out on your target soon, you can have the aura show you which has more time remaining to refresh them in the right order.
Grow: Chooses which direction the group expands from the anchor (more on anchors below). Groups will always show the first Aura at the anchor point and add new ones in this direction.
Space: This is the space between the Auras in the list. When new ones get added it will leave this many pixels between the Auras.
Stagger: If you want new Auras to be offset their vertically or horizontally (the opposite of the Grow axis) this is the option you'll want. This will make the group look like stairs.
Animated expand/collapse: This makes the group animate a little bit when Auras are added or removed from the list
Border/Background: This lets you add a border or background to the group as a whole, also available for regular groups.
Sort: How the group is sorted. None will use the order that the Auras are listed in inside the group, other options will be different from that order based on the selection.
Common Display Options
Width/Height.
Achor: Where on your Aura the anchor point is. The anchor means which point is doing the connecting. Think of it like a socket or joint.
Anchored to: What the Aura is anchored to. Usually, this is the screen or the group that it's in.
Where on the anchor point is it connected to. For example the center or corner of a screen.
Frame Strata: Frame Strata. How important it is compared to other Auras and UI elements. Auras with lower strata will be behind Auras and UI elements with higher strata
Offsets: Otherwise known as position. These are how far from the anchor they are, measured in pixels.
Triggers
Triggers define when auras show up. Here is where you tell WeakAuras why you want something to show up on your screen and refine all the circumstances that you'd want to see your aura. There are three primary types of auras that are used: Auras (buffs/debuffs, yes the names might get confusing but context should clear it up), Statuses (anything that could be considered a value you want to check like mana, combo points, or cooldowns), and Events (things that happen such as a boss being pulled).
Auras (Buffs/Debuffs)
The term aura here is used in a couple situations. Each thing that you create using WeakAuras is known as an Aura, but buffs and debuffs are also known as auras. It's easy to confuse, so context is going to be the key here. For buffs and debuffs, an aura is pretty much any buff or debuff that any character in the game can get and see, like
切割
. For this example, we're going to use
抗魔联军的调和
to show the settings.
Name/SpellID: Name of the spell or the spellID. Sometimes multiple spells have the same name and it is then important to use the spellID. Luckily the SpellID can be found by looking up the spell here. Example:
抗魔联军的调和
The number that comes after 'spell=' is the SpellID, in this case, 239042. This is a required field.
Unit with aura: Which person you want to track. This is usually yourself for buffs, usually your target or focus for debuffs. It doesn't have to be but it often is. This is a required field.
Aura Type(buff/debuff): Whether you want to see a buff or a debuff. Nice easy drop down box. This is a required field.
Own only: This checkbox can be toggled on or off. If it is on it will only alert you to buffs or debuffs that you have cast or proc'd yourself. Incredibly helpful for tracking harmful spells that others of your spec or class may also use such as
烈焰震击
.
Show On: This lets you make the aura show only when the buff is there, only when it is missing, or force the Aura to always show. The last option is most often used with effects that have stacks such as
征伐
.
Remainig Time: This lets you restrict when the aura is shown based on how much time is remaining on the debuff. A good example of this is alerting you to when a dot such as
献祭
is in its pandemic window (30% of the full duration that you can carry forward into the next cast).
Stack Count: This lets you restrict when the aura is shown based on how many stacks the buff/debuff has. For example, you might only want to know when your
高沙拉克的回响
is above 10 stacks letting you know it's close to triggering.
Status
Status is a fairly large category that includes a whole bunch of different things you can track. This is where you're going to find pretty much anything you want that isn't a buff/debuff but is a value you can get. Some things you can check:
Health
Mana
Any other secondary resource (runes, holy power, energy, etc)
Stances
Cooldowns of items, spells, potions, etc.
Someone is casting a spell
All of these options have their own unique page to help track them as many of them are different. However many of the options are fairly clear. There are a few options common to all of them.
Show On: Similar to buffs/debuffs you can tell most of these to show whether something is available or unavailable. Cooldowns will have the option to show if on cooldown, not on cooldown, or always.
Hide: Sometimes it's not always that clear of a line when things should be on or off. For example, in the case of a low mana Aura, you may want to be alerted when you drop below 30%. If you have a good amount of mana regen or a paladin has been kind enough to give you
you might go above and below frequently. In this case, you can change the hide value. Automatic will have it hide as soon as you go back to the case where the Aura wouldn't show, but custom will let you set a specific condition to hide it again. In the mana example maybe it's best to set it to hide only when you go back above 40% mana.
Events
Events are one-off things that happen. A few examples of events could be: Entering or Leaving combat, an ability finishing its cooldown, any specific combat log event such as anyone casting a spell or anyone in your group dying.
Events/Combat Log
The combat log event is almost an entirely new Aura type on its own. A lot of the options here, a very large amount of options. So instead of going over each one individually, there are a few things that we'll highlight. For starters just to clarify a few things, that might seem obvious for those who work with programming or more technical thing already but aren't very intuitive. To start "Source" means where the event started. For example, if you're looking to see who managed to dispell a debuff, you'll want the person casting the dispel to be the source. On the other end of it, the person who had the buff that got dispelled is known as the "Destination." You can think of these as where the event starts (source) and where it ends (destination). The last thing to define is a "unit." A Unit means a person such you the player, your focus, your target, or any specifically named character such as "Mogris."
The other major thing to note is an option called "Clone per event." This does show up even outside of combat events but it is in almost every combat log option page. Since you probably want to see things for more than the one frame where it happens, the Aura will last for a few seconds (same setting as in the status triggers). Sometimes the event can happen more than once while it's being shown. For example, two different people might die very close to each other. Clone per event lets WeakAuras automatically show you the aura multiple times in different places. This acts as a dynamic group and the config will show you an option to set it up as one.
Multiple triggers
Some things you may want to track can be a bit more complicated than a simple buff or debuff. Some examples include wanting to know when both your healthstone and defensive cooldown such as
星界转移
are on cooldown, telling you to be more careful. Maybe you want to know if your
新月
is available and you won't go over your astral power cap if you cast it. Or maybe you want to know your exact speed and position, unfortunately, you can't do that as it both the fundamental laws of the universe and has been protected by blizzard. WeakAuras lets you use multiple triggers to track these situations.
There are two important options for using multiple triggers, the first is how to treat those two triggers compared to the Aura as a whole. This means telling it whether you want any one of the triggers to turn on the whole Aura, or if you want to make sure both triggers are active for the Aura to turn on, say when your interrupt is available and your target is casting a spell.
The second important option is which trigger the aura should get some of its information from. This can be a bit more complicated but let's take a look at warrior cooldowns for a moment. Warriors have a large number of spells they want to use together and they don't always become available at the same time. Let's say that you want to know when the next one is going to be available to know if it's a good idea to hold onto your cooldowns, or you just want to know how long it's going to be until they're available, information is always good. Usually, this box isn't that important, but it can lead to some interesting results if you're doing some more complicated Auras. This setting lets you specifically pick which trigger you want to get that information from, or if you want it to just take it from the first trigger that's active.
Load Conditions
While not actually part of the triggers, the load tab is also important. This is the tab that controls whether or not the Auras are even being checked at all. This is great for keeping your screen free of clutter. For example in our low mana Aura, we don't really need to know if our mana is low in Retribution spec, but we do want to to be active while we're in Holy spec. There are a ton of options here and while most are pretty clear there are a few that need additional explanation. Every single option has a checkbox as to whether or not you want it to be checked, and some of these boxes are not simply checked or unchecked, hovering your mouse over these checkboxes will give you some more information. There's a few like Player class that let you select multiple classes at once. If any of these options are on it acts like another trigger. For example, if you set the player class to Mage, in addition to the other triggers you have, it will not be visible unless you are on a Mage.
Never: This will force the Aura to not load at all. Can be useful if you want to test some Auras and run out of time before a raid and just want it turned off.
In Combat: Only load in combat, only load out of combat. Can be very useful for things like tracking item durability or if you have all of your raid buffs (Well Fed for example)
In Vehicle or Has Vehicle UI: In vehicle is anything that gives you the exit vehicle button, including being in a passenger seat on a mount. Vehicle UI is limited to places that replace your action bar generally.
In Group: Multiple selections available. Can be adjusted to raid groups, non-raid groups, and not in a group.
Talent Selected: Multiple selections available. This allows you to select as many talents as you want. This option is best used when the Aura is for a specific talent spec. Very handy when checking spell cooldowns that are granted by a talent. When using this option between different classes it will keep the talent position. For example, if you select the middle talent in the level 100 row, that will be the same talent selected for this option when you change class.
Player Level: Lets you select a range, often great for Auras that you only want to show at max level or only want to show while still leveling.
Zone/Zone ID: If you know the name of the zone you can use that, or if you want to use the Zone ID that works too. Mouseover the Zone ID to get the Id of your current zone. Great setting for Auras you only want in a specific Battleground or Raid or Dungeon.
Encounter ID: Most Auras that are built for boss encounters use this setting. Mouseover this to see the IDs for all of the bosses for the expansion. While most boss specific Auras won't trigger outside of their encounter anyways, this does help keep the stress on your computer down a little bit.
Player Dungeon Role: Multiple selections available: This is essentially the same as whichever role you've queued for in a dungeon, though it can also be used outside of queued content. Options are healer, tank, or damage (DPS).
All of the load settings are not only great for keeping your screen clutter down but can also keep the strain of WeakAuras pretty low as well. It's always a good idea to set the load settings of each Aura so that it only gets used in situations where you want it. WeakAuras doesn't need to check how much rage you have when you're playing a rogue, but it will try if you don't stop it.
Actions, Animations, and Conditions
We'll go over these a bit more with some examples below but all three of these are essentially setting up specific things to happen when the auras get triggered. Animations change the way they appear on your screen by making things shake or bounce. These can be especially helpful if you want to know when a buff fades by making the Aura slide in from the side of the screen. Conditions let you do things like glowing when you have more than a certain number of
虚空形态
stacks, you can think of them as animations that happen when more specific things happen in your aura... Actions are more about doing things when the Aura turns on or off, such as letting someone know you've interrupted or cast an
激活
on them or to play a sound when your active mitigation spells like
恶魔尖刺
fade letting you know that you're more vulnerable now. These can be a bit more advanced so I won't be going into detail with them now but the options are all there for you to play around with, and since so much of WeakAuras is making information more visible to you in a way you find most comfortable, playing around with all of the different options here should help you get a much better feel for what you can do.
TL;DR and Cheat Sheet
Most of what you see above is a reference document for a lot of the settings, what they mean and what they'll change. You don't always need that and sometimes you want the quick and dirty of getting your Auras set up so here are a few ways we can get you into the action faster.
Importing Auras from others
If others have created Auras that you wish to use, there are a few easy ways to get a copy of it for yourself. The first option is to have someone link it to you in-game, similar to an item link. You can do this for other people as well. Simply shift + click on the Aura in the options panel and you can put a link to it in chat. Clicking on that link will pull up a box that lets you import it. The other option is to get a large string of text that looks mostly like gibberish and copy it into a new Aura, similar to making a new one. You can get these from friends or popular websites that let people share them.
It is important to note that in both of these cases, if there are custom portions to these Auras, in the form of custom code in them, there will be a warning when you try to import it. It is always a good idea to only import Auras from places that you trust such as friends or reputable websites with good reviews.
Importing from Wowhead
Most Buffs or debuffs here on Wowhead have an option to export an Aura for it in the Quick Facts panel at the top of the page. If you click on the WeakAuras Export button you'll get a popup that gives you a few options and the import string. Make whatever changes you want and import it as mentioned above. This works wonders for simple tracking of things you can find a link to such as buffs, debuffs, or cooldowns.
Finding more WeakAuras
There are many community members that create and supply WeakAuras online, without any cost or special requirements. Two of the biggest repositories online are
wago.io
and
WeakAurasOnline
. Whenever you feel lost and need a little help, those are excellent places to find inspiration as well.
Templates
One of the options available to you when creating a new Aura is to make one 'From Template.' This guides you through the process of getting an Aura built very quickly for some common things that people track including racial abilities, enchantment effects, spell cooldowns, and player buffs or debuffs. At the top of the page you can change the class or specialization you're getting abilities from, though it defaults to the ones you are currently logged in as. You usually won't find any enemy abilities in this menu, for those you'll have to build it from scratch yourself.
Examples
Here are the display and trigger pages for an Aura that tracks my
征伐
and the number of stacks I have.
And here's what it looks like in the end. Note that the icon is for avenging wrath, but that is because of the glyph that gives you extra wings on your back. To adjust this either remove the glyph or uncheck 'Automatic Icon' and find the crusade icon.
This castbar will show when your focus target is casting a spell. It will have the name, cast time, and an icon for the spell.
Very simple and can be adjusted very easily. For this example I set myself to focus and cast a spell but it will change to whoever you focus whether it's the enemy healer in an arena or the boss in a raid. Progress bars are one of the most customizable Auas there are so feel free to play around with the display settings on this one.
This Aura shows when your mana dips below 20% and goes away when you've gotten back enough to get over 40%.
The animation can be changed to anything you want and so can the mana thresholds. This is a very customizable aura that you can fine-tune to whichever resource or amount that you want.
Pandemic is when you can carry forward some of the duration of a dot. For
痛楚
this is roughly 5.5 seconds. When refreshing below this threshold, the remaining duration gets added to the dot.
And this is what it looks like when it's ready to be refreshed. You can change the effect that you want at any time in the conditions menu. And this will also work for any dots if you know the pandemic window (30% of normal max duration).
That's really all there is to WeakAuras. They aren't that spooky and hopefully, now they're a bit easier to understand. With all that we've gone through making your own or modifying ones that you've gotten from other should be much easier and your UI will look far better.

Then go in-game and find those auras, highlighted by a helpful white circle icon, and click it to begin importing the updates. Herein lies the only difficult part (and that's not saying much!); selecting
Create a Copy
will create new updated WeakAura alongside your older one, which might be useful for debugging, but probably isn't useful for the majority of users. Changing it to
Update Auras
will instead overwrite the existing with a new version. Click lower right hand side button
Import as Update
(or Copy), and you're done! Your game might lag out for a moment, depending on the size of the update, but it shouldn't last more than a few seconds.
You'll still be installing new WeakAuras the same way for now, although there are plans to enable adding new Auras from wago directly through the app in the future.

Did they get rid of the item stack tigger? I can't seem to find it anymore in this new update.

I've personally always liked/used simple stacked weakauras.
IE: 2 medium icon frozen orbs: one "spell cooldown," and one "action usable."
You put them on the same exact spot and put your cooldown to desaturate.
When Orb is on cooldown its black and white with timer, when its ready it turns color again.
I do it with all my main CD abilities: Ebonbolt, Frozen Orb, Ring of Frost etc. etc.
(for spell flash you can do the same thing but check "desaturate" off and on the "action usable" weakaura check "glow")

I think it would also be nice to include information about Trigger State Updaters, and asakawa, a moderator in the WeakAuras Discord community, made two exceptional videos:
https://youtu.be/P_kCDo5aefQ
and
https://youtu.be/ir0xP4kXvAI
. Keep in mind that the concepts he uses in the videos are advanced, and if you're new to WeakAuras take time learning the mod before jumping headfirst into the deep-end with TSUs.

There seem to be some pictures missing from this guide. I just see little xes where it looks like there should be pictures.

Thank you - I have been hearing weakauras but had no idea what it is. I'm definitely getting it now.

Looks like there's supposed to be a link to the companion app but the url code has a typo.

Removed
Whatever changes have been made from the older version, do go back. Back then it worked just fine.
Weakauras 2 is worse than useless. I set everything up and it was working just as intended. Later, something went apparently went wrong with this pathetic excuse of an addon, and nothing could be done to sort it out. Not loading correctly or anything of the sorts. I set it all up, it WAS working. Then this....

Guide seems to not even touch one of the most basic questions/issues, the "loaded" or "unloaded" one. I have no clue whatexactly thjose means, nor how to make sure they DO get loaded...

No tears when WeakAuras crashes.
Once you have created a WeakAuras “group” you like,
it’s really important to export the string (long paragraph of code that looks like gibberish) and paste it into Word. Label the character and spec
. Click on the little icon on the mini-map that looks like a “W” to open WeakAuras. Then click on the “Export” icon. Repeat.
I lost all of my WeakAuras settings. Maybe it was the patch, maybe it didn’t like how I exited.
I pasted (“imported”) the string of code I’d “exported” from WeakAuras last year. Use the Import icon on the starting screen for WeakAuras.
That worked, although it didn’t include my most recent settings.
Another method is to copy your WTF folder to another drive or the Cloud.
If WeakAuras is lost, delete today’s WeakAuras files from:
_retail_/WTF/Account/account#/Saved Variables.
Then paste in the WeakAuras files from the WTF folder you saved. These are “lua” files and have extensions like “.lua”, “.lua.bak”.
I’ve also read that you should only paste in the file with the extension “.lua.bak”. You rename the extension “.lua”. When you login, a new lua backup file will automatically be created in-game. That didn’t restore my WeakAuras files, but maybe someone can explain this method better.
Blizzard doesn’t offer advice on add-on issues and the WeakAuras app on CurseForge insists you create a account on Github to report bugs. That is strictly a site for programmers.

This reads like something written for those already experienced with it. Simple newbie question: let's say I spot something I'd like to add to my add-ons (maybe saw in on U-Tube). It happens to be a Weak Aura thing. What are the download and import steps so I can actually use the thing?
