Welcome to Wowhead's guide to Adapting to Battle for Azeroth's pre-patch guide as a Mistweaver Monk. Patch 8.0 brings a lot of changes from BFA to the world of Azeroth and this guide is made to make sure you are prepared for all upcoming changes. This guide gives you an overview of all the changes happening with patch 8.0 for Mistweaver Monk.
This pre-patch page is intended to help you know the changes to Mistweaver Monk during the pre-patch. Note that during pre-patch, while artifacts
no longer work
, we do not have our
azerite powers
yet, meaning this isn't the final picture for specs in BFA. However, we still retain the powers from legendaries, which will continue working
up to level 115
, creating some interesting situations, as some effects from legendaries
became baseline effects or talents in BFA
.

Battle for Azeroth
, Mistweavers have gotten some pretty substantial "under the hood" improvements to the base spell kit, as well as some talents that will help allow you to specialize your Mistweaver to how you want to play it.

Changes

MODIFIED No longer heals targeted player and two closest injured targets, instead heals a single target, plus any target with one of your

MODIFIED Mana cost reduced from 4.0% mana to 3.5% mana.

War Mode
Another change from Legion into BFA is the addition of
War Mode
. War Mode is a new World PvP system in the Battle for Azeroth pre-patch, along with the new Honor system and Honor Talents. You are now able to toggle War Mode while in a capital city to gain access to PvP Talents in the outdoor world as well as other bonuses, like increased rewards from World quests and 10% extra experience. The downside is that you will always be in PvP combat mode, with the rewards counterbalancing that risk.
Changes to the Global Cooldown (GCD) for MW Monks
The Global Cooldown, or GCD, is a short lockout period which controls the rate with which abilities can be used; spells that are on the GCD are unable to be used simultaneously, while only abilities off the GCD can be used at the same time or during that lockout period. The global cooldown starts at 1.0 second for energy resource classes, and 1.5 seconds divided by haste for all others.
In Battle for Azeroth, many abilities which used to be off the GCD are now controlled by it. For MW Monks the abilities affected by this change are:

Returning Legendary and Artifact Effects
In Battle for Azeroth, many old artifact traits and legendary effects from Legion were turned into talents and baseline abilities. It is known that we will lose our Artifacts
in a future event
. To add to that, Legion legendaries
will stop working at level 116

Healing in Different Talent Builds
Dungeon Healing
Talent Decisions
Level 75 - Your choice in defensives largely lies on the content you're running.
躯不坏
is a solid default for any telegraphed damage since it's not limited to just one type of incoming damage. If you really have no idea what to expect,
金创药
, being the only choice in this row that can be used effectively as a reaction, would be your go to.
Healing Dungeons
Place your
召唤青龙雕像
close to where you're fighting so it will heal who you channel
抚慰之雾
on, without a chance of being out of range.
Make sure you damage enemies in order to debuff them with
玄秘掌
.
复苏之雾
should be cast as often as possible to cover future group damage.
A majority of your
雷光聚神茶
will be on
复苏之雾
to maximize your coverage.
活血术
is your main group heal, thanks to its reintroduced mechanic of healing your allies with your
复苏之雾
active.
Use
抚慰之雾
on any target taking light damage to stabilize them.
If this damage is intense, cast
氤氲之雾
instantly through the
抚慰之雾
channel.
平心之环
is a very versatile tool. Its main uses will be as a ranged group interrupt or as a pseudo tank cooldown, where they're immune from damage for 5 seconds.
精华之泉
is still used primarily as a single target burst healing tool thanks to its double
迷雾之风
healing.
Stat Priority
Intellect > Haste > Mastery > Versatility = Critical Strike
In dungeons we're not all that constrained on mana, so Haste takes precedent, allowing you to react to incoming damage faster and increasing healing of your HoT effects. Mastery makes targeted healing much stronger. Versatility is used for any damage reduction it can muster. Critical Strike just falls into a default fourth place.
Legion
Legendaries to Use In Dungeons

- Still a strong staple of Dungeons and other small group content. If a player needs to be funneled healing, this has the added benefit of improving

healing if the buff is on

targets.

- Still a strong survivability option when you need it.

making a strong comeback as an active spell, this legendary has gotten a serious boost in throughput.

- Because of it being reworked as a 10% increase to

, this is just a nice passive legendary to have.
Raid Healing - Tankysitting
Talent Decisions
Level 45 - A toss up between
生生不息
and
法力茶
, both options play towards a certain style of damage.
生生不息
is more suited to consistent tank damage and some group damage.
法力茶
is better for telegraphed raid wide damage, in an attempt to save mana when you need to burn it casting
活血术
.
Level 75 - The defensive row largely depends on the encounter and how it deals damage to you.

is a good enough default since it's used as a reaction after damage, whereas
散魔功
and
躯不坏
are leaps and bounds better if you can use them proactively.
Level 90 - The choice in this row boils down to either
召唤青龙雕像
for increased single target healing, or
if more group healing is preferred without sacrificing the outstanding single target healing this build provides.
Healing in Raids - Tankysitting
Tankysitting is exactly what the name implies. You're making sure the tanks don't die.
Battle for Azeroth
has changed how they deal with incoming damage to the point where relying on passive or incidental tank healing each and every fight is no longer feasible. The section below will help you decide when to use this build or the Kickweaving, but know that the general use of this build is to keep the tanks healthy.
This build heals much the same as Dungeon Healing, with some slight differences:
精华之泉
will be your main response to group damage. With
艺业精纯
talented,
精华之泉
is much more efficient; for each second that
精华之泉
is off cooldown, your next one is just more healing for the same amount of mana.
雷光聚神茶
use is more situational. You want to use it as often as possible. If there's group healing to be done, the mana saved through using it on
活血术
is incredible, whereas preparing for group healing with an extended
复苏之雾
could pay off in the future. Reacting to a spike in tank health with a
huge
heal via
氤氲之雾
can also be appropriate.
You'll want to channel
抚慰之雾
as much as possible when tanks are taking damage to help stabilize them.
复苏之雾
should still be cast as close to on cooldown as possible. Thanks to it having a second charge, though, you're not punished for waiting to cast it due to circumstances outside of your control.
If the group still needs healing and
精华之泉
is still on cooldown, use
活血术
on the tank if they need healing, otherwise hard-cast it on the player in most danger of dying.
Stat Priority for Tankysitting
Intellect > Critical Strike > Versatility > Haste > Mastery
Critical Strike and Versatility both provide more throughput to
精华之泉
than either of the other two secondary stats. And
精华之泉
is a
beast
when you're healing a raid group. Even in this single target-focused build,
精华之泉
still outputs a majority of your healing over the course of a fight. Haste and Mastery fall of because they just don't affect as much of Mistweaver's throughput as Critical Strike and Versatility do.
Legion
Legendaries to Use While Tankysitting

- As a surprise to no one, this is still the top trinket in raiding. The on-demand healing amplifier and overheal redistribution is just too strong to dethrone.

's bump up in power and the duration of this legendary's Chi-Ji not being adjusted, it now lasts for 60% of the uptime as a talented Chi-Ji, as opposed to 25% in
Legion
.

- Is, of course, a strong survivability legendary.

- In the wake of us losing our artifacts, this ring now provides a flat 2% healing and damage increase.
Raid Healing - Kickweaving
Talent Decisions
Level 75 - The defensive row largely depends on the encounter and how it deals damage to you.

are leaps and bounds better if you can use them proactively.

Healing in Raids - Kickweaving
Kickweaving capitalizes on Mistweaver's unique identity as a melee-healer by dealing a respectable amount of damage to a target, while healing the group efficiently and in bursts when it's needed.

as often as you can, especially when prolonged group-wide damage is incoming.
Whenever you cast
精华之泉
as a response to group damage, immediately follow it up with a
旭日东升踢
to heal all of your allies with a HoT effect via
升腾迷雾
.
A helpful macro for making sure that you don't accidentally clip some

bolts by casting

as soon as its channel is over:

is now an effective spell to empower when you're healing, allowing you to get back-to-back

s on as many people as possible. Due to when the 9 seconds is applied in the cooldown, there will always be a GCD's worth of time in between each
旭日东升踢
. This can be used to refresh
禅院教诲
stacks.
Whenever the group is injured and
精华之泉
is on cooldown, hard cast
活血术
on the players with the lowest health.
抚慰之雾
is dropped entirely in this build, in favor of regaining mana through
仙鹤之魂
, which requires a relatively significant amount of time to build.
Stat Priority for Kickweaving
Intellect > Critical Strike > Versatility > Haste > Mastery
Much the same as Tankysitting, this build favors Critical Strike and Versatility as they directly increase the healing done by the majority of this build's healing. Haste is a bit more desirable compared to Tankysitting, but not enough to overtake Versatility. Spells that proc

are largely removed from this build's healing.
Legion
Legendaries to Use While Kickweaving

Deciding Between Tankysitting and Kickweaving in Raids
Deciding between Tankysitting or Kickweaving is largely on a fight to fight basis. The two builds do largely the same amount of healing, the main difference between them is where that healing goes. Tankysitting largely favors a single target at a time, whereas Kickweaving is spreading healing out to the whole group. There are certain situations where you feasibly can't perform well in one build compared to the other. This is fine, it happens on a boss to boss basis. Some of the more common scenarios are listed below.
Are there any mechanics forcing you out of melee? If there are, you can't kickweave.
Are the tanks dying to lack of healing? If so, tankysit.
Is there frequent enough movement that you can't get a whole lot of value out of
抚慰之雾
? If so, you can't effectively tankysit.
Do you need to spot heal frequently? If so, the tankysit plays to that much better.
Legion
Legendaries Revisited
This pre-patch broke a fair bit of our legendaries that we acquired over
Legion
's time as an expansion. Below are the legendaries that have had their effects changed in light of
Battle for Azeroth
's class changes.

empowerments, they do not affect their respective spells.
氤氲之雾
's empowerment still makes it instant instead of the
Battle for Azeroth
's
雷光聚神茶
's empowerment, and
活血术
's empowerment still acts as normal.

has been removed due to

being used to heal Azeroth. This legendary now increases all

healing by 10%.
