Can be snuck to and solo'd by a druid. Will take about 30mins of your time doing so, but completely possable and not too difficult with practice. Cycle back and forth between Starfire and Hibernate. Take your time to regen mana and replenish health. Mana pots and venom sacs are a plus, but certainly not required. If you bring a rogue it can be done in 15mins. But requires very good communication with one and other. Will drop part of your druid set, but not the greatest of drop rates.
She likes to poison and stun. The poison is very annoying, so you want to remove that every chance you get, cause it will root you. And the stun lasts 5seconds, but breaks when she hits you.

Also you have to try to be as far away from the other spiders as possible to not aggro them. Stick close to the short wall and alternate between corners. When casting hibernate, try to do it so that she is close to one corner, then you can run to the other one and repeat. You don't want her to get too close to you before you finish casting hibernate.

Getting poisoned by her will give you the debuff needed to complete the quest where you need to get 'milked' of her specific poison. This is the debuff previously mentioned that will root you at random times for about 5-7 seconds at a time - works like a hunter's web trap skill.
The small spiders in this area drop the anti-venom to remove this debuff in large quantities. Correct me if i'm wrong, but these antidotes can be saved and used to remove any poison debuff. I came away from this area with close to 50 of the anti-venoms due to the massive amount of spiders here..lol.

Easy to solo as a 70 fire mage. Blink over the row of sleeping orcs, invis past the first spider group to get on top of the beam above the ramp-up. Kill the spider that walks across the beams and wait for your invis cooldown. Ice armor, int buff, combustion, mana up, mana sheild and go to town. Make sure you're throwing on your mana shield every time it goes down and save a super health just in case.
If you dont have enough health to down her but she put the poison on you : Dragons breath, jump down, invis out of combat and port out to IF.
If you manage to kill her but dont have enough health left at the end of the fight to take out her spider spawn : Frost nova, jump down, invis out of combat and port out to IF.

Mother Smolderweb can be rooted by Frost Nova. I am guessing that other roots and CC effects that normally don't work on bosses also work on her.
The small spiders that spawn when she dies do not automatically aggro on you. So if you are far enough away you will not aggro them.

Which part is she in, upper or lower? (I'm guessing lower cause she's only a 59 elite)

Just soloed her twice using the starfire and hibernate combo for druids, takes around 15 minutes but isn't that hard a fight, only goes wrong if she resists hibernate once or twice. Neither kill dropped wildheart boots but I'm sticking at it and trying to find a rogue to help with the time.
Some quick tips to help you. As far as I'm aware she is not linked to the other two nearby elites and if you start in the southeast corner and start using the starfire & hibernate combo you shouldn't aggro anything else during the entire fight. Don't use thorns as it as a tendancy to break hibernate immediatly, or it does for me anyway. Keep healing to a minimum, instead use heavy runecloth bandages with the occational rejuvanation while it cools down. Using nature's swiftness every 3 minutes means an instant hibernate and innervate is good when you're nearly oom. Keep some mana pots handy just in case. As soon as you kill her loot quickly as you'll probably be quickly taken down by the spawned spiders. Remeber to reset the instance if you're running again by simply exiting when you res and entering again.

It took me a few deaths to figure out where this is, so here is my walkthru. It took me 4 kills to get my boots. I did this at level 60.
On zoning in, make your way up the beginning ramp to the first room. Catform and invis. The first room has mobs on each side and there is one mob that roams back and forth from a fire on the right and over to the left where he sits down.
Take the stairs on the right up. There is a 2 mob patrol up there so watch for them. Once up the stairs take the passageway on the right. You'll find yourself on a small ledge with a couple of rocks on it. Looking down and left you'll see a doorway with 5 or 6 mobs out in front of it. You'll be going through it. There is another 2 mob patrol which passes through here, so stay up on the ledge and watch for them. As soon as they pass through below you, down you go.
The doorway leads into a small passageway which bends back and forth a couple of times quickly, and opens up into a large area. When you enter here you'll get the onscreen text that you've entered Hordemar City.
On entering this area, turn right and stay along the right wall. In the distance you'll see another area with one and two headed ogres. Go to the edge along the right wall and look down; you'll see a ledge to drop down on. Drop down and continue forward, you'll see another ledge to drop down and turn left. Down below you'll see lava.
After this second drop off, take off your invis and make your way straight. You'll come to another drop off which overlooks a large orc encampment. You'll be making your way to the RIGHT after you jump.
The jump can cause damage and drop your invis, which is why you dropped it earlier; now when you jump you'll be able to invis right away upon landing without having to wait for it to recycle.
There is one patrol mob which wanders the camp and one more that wanders back and forth in the middle of it. They are not hard to avoid. Note that as you make your way through this camp you are not going through the end where you have to go in between rocks; you go the other way (to the right as you looked down upon it from the ledge you jumped from.)
At the end of the orc camp is a ramp up, and you'll see spiders on it. Mother is at the top. Watch the pattern of the spiders on the ramp and run up along the left side of the ramp (I usually burn our sprint ability here.) Stay along the left wall until you are past Mother and set up in the corner once you're past her.
The fight is as others have said, though I used more of a diagonal path. It's tight in here, but its very doable. There is a rock in the middle of this area that you use to kill her and it seemed to cause a graphics glitch where she would pop right on top of me as soon as a nuke hits her, but don't worry, she is not really there yet and won't hit you for the 2 seconds it takes her to run to you normally.
I died the first time I fought her but never after that. LOOT QUICKLY and enjoy the fast death you suffer at the hands of the spiders that spawn after she's down.
Every druid should have Wildheart Boots, there is no reason not to with this approach. Good luck!

Hi all,
As I got a lot of positive feedback for my guide to soloing Kibler's Exotic Pets and En-Ay-Es-Tee-Why (see those quests for details) I thought I'd do another one for soloing Mother Smolderweb, especially as half the work was done in the last one 8-)
Be warned this is *very* picture heavy, and a complete spoiler, so if you want to work any of this out for yourself then it might be best not to read it 8-)

The only time it gets dicey is when she stops halfway to you. By the time you starfire/hibernate she is usually on you and can take you down if she stuns you and resists a hibernate. I found that in this case, use wrath/hibernate. This allows you to get the hibernate off due to the flight time of wrath. With this technique you can "nudge" her towards you until you can go to the other side to start the starfire/hibernate cycle again.
Switch to bear form when you kill her and you can survive plenty long enough to loot.

I've soloed this stupid spider 30 times now. I've got about 6 Venomspitters 10 smolderwebs eyes and 14 gilded gloves. Not once has Wildheart boots (hell even shadowcraft would be nice to see other then the crap she has!) dropped.
....
I hate this spider.

As a 60 feral druid, I don't have omen of clarity or NS, but wearing +int gear and drinking a greater int pot, I had over 6000 mana to play with. If she breaks hibernate before I get starfire off, I just hit escape and rehibernate. I have a pot of limited invulnerability at the ready, and use greater defense also. With innervate now trainable for all druids, I used it the first time my mana got to about 30% to get the cooldown timer started. Also, I eat +stam/spir food just before I begin. Every little bit helps!
So far I've tried it 4 times and LAG killed me 3 times out of 4 (the 4th time I got too close to the other spiders while Mother was sleeping!), and always when Mother is down to 10% health or less. It's almost like the network *knows* I'm so close and has to throw a wrench in my plans. lol
Also, with 5 points in Feral Instinct, prowling to her was no problem. None of the orcs or spiders had any idea I was there. Hee hee!
Dianius's guide at
http://www.playthingofthegods.com/MotherSmolderwebGuide/MotherSmolderwebGuide.htm
is excellent! The only difference for me was the last set of orcs seems to be repositioned from the screenshot such that you can't take the path across the fur rugs as indicated. I went between the left-most sleeping orc and the next one to the right.

I did just solo her with my lvl 58 druid without too much trouble. So it should not be that hard at 60.
I recommend you to be 58+ though, as you get new ranks of starfire and hibernate at lvl 58. If you are going for this before you have reached 60 you should buy potions and ask priests and mages for buffs. I used
Arcane Elixir
wich I think everyone should do to speed it up a little bit. I actually had prayer of spirit buff while doing my first try, but I died that time and so did the buff ^^
When you choose gear,
do not
prioritize +intellect gear. Spirit is way more important as you will fight in about 15 minutes.
Tauren druids have a huge benefit in their racial skill war stomp. Hibernate takes 1.5 seconds to cast and war stomp stuns her for 2 seconds. So taurens, dont forget to stomp! (and no, she is not immune to stuns)
As I did this at 58 I had a pretty large aggro area to the mob groups around mother smolderweb. So it was important to optimize the way I was running back and forth. I found out that the best way is to run catercorner.
http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload2/Mother_Smolderweb.jpg
If you run catercorner, she wont even be able to hit you(
Do not mind about the spiders you see, this screen was taken after I killed her
)
I died twice before I killed her, and when I killed her she only the trinket dropped. So do not go there and think you will get out with new boots and without a repair bill.

Remove any items/buffs you have that have damage shield effects (ie thorns).
If you have a damage shield up, then that can break hibernate.
It goes something like:
-you start casting hibernate
-spider attacks you and hits for X damage
-hibernate finishes casting
-your damage shield kicks in and does Y damage to spider
-hibernate broken by damage shield
-spider attacks you and kills you.
this killed me 3 times.
As soon as I removed my damage shield ring (3 arcane dshield) and kept my thorns buff off, I soloed her no problem!

Maybe two rogues could duo her? I'd imagine pulling her with a bow for one rogue, the other rogue cheap shotting, then you vanishing and cheap shotting when that cheap shot runs out. Healing pots and stuns all the way - coordinate your kidney punches :o.
Tried it tonight and got her to 2000 HP before wiping before. We had no way of healing, so it was a good try... we also got hit with a tad bit of lag and I missed on a kidney punch. I also learned you could announce you are going to blind smolderweb when you miss with kidney punch, then take some time to bandage (both of you >_>).
Gonna try it again with healing pots, rugged armor kits (love how easy they are to make) and +armor pots. Too bad kidney punch has such a not so friendly cooldown.
(NOTE: Do not use poisons in case you need to blind, or even gouge. You know what that does...)
Good luck to you rogues!

22 Attempts and no Wildheart Boots. Can anyone confirm they still drop off of her? I've started doing Gizrul with a friend who 2-boxes a Rogue and Druid and no shoulders either but only after 3 attempts... *sigh*. I suppose I should be happy that I have somthing I can do solo since there really isn't any post 60 solo content (aside from boring faction grind).

i killed her twice and my boots dropped the 2nd time using the
http://www.playthingofthegods.com/MotherSmolderwebGuide/MotherSmolderwebGuide.htm
method. it worked surprisingly well for me (lvl 60 balance druid) and i only died cause i didn't feel like fighting the baby spawns...i didn't have my best gear on and the Venomspitter vendored enough to make up for the repairs anyway.
only used maybe one major healing potion, and my innervate was able to keep me with enough mana. i used my heavy runecloth bandages the rest of the time, saving my mana for those starfires. only buff i had was my own MotW, obviously NO thorns.
hope those of you that haven't gotten yours yet manage to pry em from her cold dead mandibles ^^

Well, I have solo'd her about 9 times now. (Yeah, nine times, see the loot.) She still hasn't dropped the Wildheart boots.
The Loot that i have gotten from her:
Venomspitter - 4 (so much for a .9% drop)
Gilded Gauntlets - 3
Smolderweb's Eye - 2
Some Green Shield (came with a blue drop)
So you add up the blues? Yeah, nine times. Still no drop. It's kinda getting annoying although she is extremely simple to solo now that i have done it 9 times. Oh well, off to my tenth....

Well, after my last post, I continued to solo her, getting very good at it by the end. She finally dropped them on my 15th try! And i cant't complain, I made upwards 40g by selling all the loot that dropped every other time.
Total Loot:
3 Gilded Guantlets
5 Smolderweb's Eye
4 Venomspitters
1 Green Shield
1 Wildheart Boots (my last obviously)
Well, good luck to all you other druids out there that will probably get them on your first try. Lol.

She is fairly easy to solo and manage. Just read the descriptions up top, practice it for a bit, b/c you will die trying, due to lack of experience BUT you'll get the hang of it. I didnt even need to buy pots for this. BUT, as mentioned above, this is a long battle, and it does take a long time 10-15min. My tip, is after you hibernate and starfire, to be on the safe side, run to the each safe corner, rinse and repeat (you'll know what I'm talking about when you start doing this). Another trick i learned, is instead of wasting money or wasting pots, jus keep her hibrinated, sit and let your spirit replenish some mana. Hibrination lasts up to 40sec. So yea... On my 3rd try and she keeps dropping that damn venom mace... piece of ****. wish me luck.

Yesterday i Soloed mothersmolderweb in my way. I tanked her down in bear form :D
However, a rogue wanted to join me in killing her. I said thats fine but he was not going to use any DoTs or fight her while she were under hibernate.
And i started of as i did yesterday, i used faerie fire while i were in the corner and she came towards me.
So did the other spiders in that spider room!
And of course the other spiders killed us, this happened 3 times before we gave up, and yes we DID wait until she were far away from the spiders and yes i DID restart the instance.

So the good news is that Mother is totally soloable. I'm a 60 balance druid and she's no problem. It gets a tad expensive (repairs, but here's my strategy).
Stealth in and kill her using the hibernate/starfire combo. Loot the body and kill the little spiders. Then pull the spider that walks the ledge and kill it, looting body. Then try to take one of the big groups of spider resulting in death. Run back from the graveyard and reset the instance on the way back. repeat (faster this way than trying to stealth back out, but it can be accomplished).
Takes me 20 minutes from leaving the graveyard to looting her body. She hasn't dropped my boots yet, but she's dropped a blue item every time. I DE it and repeat. 6 large brillant shards will more than pay for 3g in repairs.

Third attempt I killed her, she dropped Venomspitter, Fourth attempt I killer her again, she dropped my Wildheart Boots :)

Easily soloable as a druid if you know the tricks... Still also very easy to die if you drop your guard for a second. I failed the first 2 times when I went with another druid, but I realized it was because we both had thorns on! A good thing to remember is not to go past the white spider eggs on the ground while wall hugging past her. A couple of times one of the mob spiders saw me when I was standing on them at lvl 60. Also its possible to clear up all the spiders that spawn from her if done right. As long as they don't aggro immediately, switch to tank gear, hibernate one of them, and then dispatch the other 3. Try and get a heal off when the first drops before the sleeping spider wakes up. (No NS on the build I used).
Wildheart Boots dropped 2nd succesful run!

Had to solo her 8 times before I got my boots, fairly easy as long as you pay attention and don't let your guard down. I would suggest bringing a couple of major healing potions though. If she does break early and resists hibernate, she deals quite a bit of damage, and you might not have time to heal. Also a timer for hibernate (like the DruidTimer addon) is
very
helpful, as it shows exactly how long you have until it's time for another starfire. Yes she can wake up early, and does so quite frequently, but a timer really can be a lifesaver if things start to go wrong and you're low on mana.

Soloed her 9 times now and still no Wildheart Boots I think this has been altered or tampered with by Blizzard - not fair play - it's not often druids can solo such a reknowned elite beast, only fair to let the boots drop a little more often and maybe throw in an epic item as a very rare drop.
My only real concern is having to die after killing Smolderweb or is there another way to fend off the 4 lvl55 spiders she spawns?

On my third try, using the guide (first 2 failed) I downed her, and she dropped the boots, I was shaking with excitement it was so good. :D
Awesome thing to kill her alone, even if you dont want the boots, as a green/blue geared druid, it feels quite an accomplishment.

This is simple to do with two druids. Have one Starfire, and the other time a hibernate to hit right after. After a few tries you'll get the hang of landing them at the same time. Ol' Legs doesn't stay awake long enough to do anything at all.
Trade off keeping her asleep when you start to get low on mana for regeneration.
Every once in a while there will be a resist/early break, but otherwise she'll never have a chance to touch you. It's a ton easier and faster than doing it by yourself.

with the new talents this is so easy in bear form if u r full feral
no need to be even a good player(i´m not)
just go the her, stick ur back to the wall and pull her however u want.if u r a bit lucky ,the small spiders next her won´t aggro(happen sometimes).just bash, maul,DR and when u r around 2K hp bash, druid form hibernate heal bear again.thorns aren´t ur friend here, but no need that extra dmg.took 8 minuts to do the whole run(from the door to the loot).if u want to play"safe",do a last hibernate just before killing her,so u can be amost full heal for the spawns when kill, and swipe them all

About 20 minutes, I think, my food buff (15 minute one) wore off before I killed her. No boots, but she did drop Venomspitter (looks cool, but useless to a resto druid) and a Traveler's Backpack. Gonna try again later tonight, want my boots. :)
