This guide is for leveling alts through Threads of Fate, not for the main storyline play through. This guide also assumes your alt has a decent amount of rested, however not needed. There is currently no skip for the Maw intro but the intro will give you about 1 level. I recommend doing it even if they add a skip later, takes about 30-45minutes to do depending on how familiar you are. Also if you have a mount for the maw this part will go by faster.
From my experience I only leveled my alts through Threads of Fate with full rested. I have no clue if doing the main storyline is faster or not. The only thing I do not recommend is dungeon spam unless you are with a group of coordinated people. I have never really been a fan of dungeon spamming, quests with some dungeon queues have always been faster way to level in my opinion.
Quick Summary
Do side quests while queueing for dungeons. Only do dungeons to complete the dungeon quests. Most of our time will be spent doing side quests. The more familiar you are with the side quests the faster leveling will be.
1) Do Maw Intro
2) Choose Threads of Fate and Covenant
3) Fly to each zone to get zone quest and dungeon quests
4) Bastion>Ardenweald>Revendreth>Maldraxxus - Do Side quests, do not do bonus objectives.
5) Start queueing for dungeons as soon as you start in Bastion.
Preparation
-Goblin Gliders
-Gun Shoes
-Health Potions (For big pulls)
-Comfortable Rider's Barding
-Wormhole Generator: Shadowlands (Engineer only) Super useful for jumping to the next zone, it's a toy so alts can use as long as they are Engineering(1)
-Create a keybind for useable quest items. I've found this to be useful outside of alt leveling as it is always handy to drop a quest item on your hotbar and easily activate it.
Having both Mining and Herbalism is great but not needed at all. Abundance of nodes and sometimes an herb is right next to an ore vein. A nodes gives about 1/13th exp a quest turn in gives, knocking out a few nodes while traveling adds up. Also useful to have mats obviously.
After you finish the Maw intro, choose the Threads of Fate option, choose your covenant, and then fly to each zone to automatically pickup the Support/Bolstering/Rallying/Reinforcing 0/100% zone wide quest. These give a good deal of exp, a weapon and renown once completed. We will also want to pickup the dungeon quests in each zone, for Maldraxxus talk to the npcs in the area to get it. Below is where you pickup each dungeon quest. I have no clue where the Halls of Atonement Dungeon quest is
Ardenweald - Next to Flight Path Master
Maldraxxus - Talk to the NPCs in this area to get the quest
Bastion - Right outside Necrotic Wake
Our main goal here is to spam side quests while queueing for dungeons. Important: The weekly anima dungeon quests in Oribos
do not
give exp.
Dungeons
You can queue whatever roll you prefer. No dungeon spamming here, we only want to do one of each to finish the dungeon quests. I have found that I rarely get a duplicate dungeons if I random queue back to back after completing a dungeon. Unsure if there is some system in place to prevent getting duplicate dungeons during a play session or not. If you get a duplicate dungeon feel free to leave and queue again later or specifically queue for a dungeon that has the quest you want to complete (Not suggested).
If the dungeon you queue into is with PUGs and you can tell it will be a potato run within the first few minutes, dip out and queue later, it's not worth the wasted time.
I suggest queueing and completing all your dungeons as you start in Bastion.
Addons
Auto Turn In
- Auto turns in quests, settings default to only auto turn in daily, you will have to change this to all.
DialogKey
- Press 1, 2, 3, 4, ect… to select dialog from NPCs, very useful for quests where you have to talk to NPCs and select an option.
Farmhud
(If gathering prof) - Puts a transparent minimap right in the middle of your screen, extremely useful if just farming herbs/ore too.
Bonus Objectives
Waste of time. Takes way to long to complete and only gives about 5k more exp than a quest turn in. The only times these might be worth it is if a world quest overlaps but even then they are just time sinks. I have yet to try this but there may be some value in getting into groups of 5 and doing all the bonus objectives in a zone along side spamming dungeons with that same group of 5 people.
World Quests
Only do if they overlap with your side quests or if they are close by and the reward is good/quest is short. Exp given is a little less than a normal quest turn in. The extra Anima Power and % completion towards the zone quests adds up as well.
Route
I always finished all/most side quests available in Bastion/Maldraxxus/Ardenweald. I would hit 60 before finishing the 0/100% zone wide quest in Revendreth.
My route always went Bastion>Maldraxxus>Ardenweald>Revendreth. However for my last alt I changed my route to Bastion>Ardenweald>Revendreth>Maldraxxus. The reason for switching Maldraxxus to last is because the side quests there are too spread out and are more time consuming than Revendreth. I feel like the latter route is the better choice, also you will likely not finish the 0/100% zone wide quest for Maldraxxus or even get to start in Maldraxxus.
Note: The circled areas on the map is the area in which you will roughly be doing the side quests and where they start. I will also note whatever useful information I can here.
Bastion
This zone will take you from 51 to about 54 or 55 depending on the amount of world quests that overlap and amount of dungeons you do at the start (again I recommend doing all the dungeons here to get them out of the way). There is a quest at the very bottom of the map, ignore it.
1: There are two elite mob quests here, both are simple enough and you shouldn't need a group.
2: Straight forward quests with some world quest overlapping on occasion.
3: Elite quest which you may need to group up for. Just use the group finder and do the other two quests in the area if you have to wait to find people.
Ardenweald
Mostly straight forward quests. There is a small quest chain in the southern area of the map but I usually skipped it.
1: You will have to go a little east towards the Heartwood Grove for some quests. Pickup the treasure marked in the Heartwood Grove area marked on the map, gives a quest turn in worth of exp. Should be an Acorn or something you pickup.
2: Nothing much to say here. Quests are kind of annoying, be careful not to die here. The waterfall north of here has a treasure quest item but can be a little dangerous and might not be worth getting.
3: There is one annoying quest where you have to target an NPC and do a series of emotes with them, just finish it.
Revendreth
You will likely get to this zone at level 58 or close to it. Know that doing side quests here to complete the 0/100% quest is what will get you to 60.
1: Small series of quests, after you finish the vehicle quest there will be a quest that has you click on some papers on the wall then lead you to the number 2 area.
2: Do not do the quest at the bottom that asks you to pickup 5 rubies unless you are a class with mobility/survivability. The start of this area is mostly just clicking on stuff and talking to NPCs. You will then head south and do another set of quests. I always had to group up for the elite quest here. This area will finish with you killing a Vampire boss ontop of a building. From here you can glider to the 2 area and then start the 3 area or skip 3 and go to 4.
3: On all the alts I leveled I skipped this area, however I do recommend doing it as doing 1/2/4/5 areas will leave you short of finishing the 0/100% zone quest.
4: Short series of quests, do not do the bonus objective here.
5: You will probably end up finishing the zone quest here to get level 60, however if you do not get 60, continue to Maldraxxus.
Maldraxxus
1: Longest quest chain, you may need a group for the elite quest.
2: Completing the side quest will also give you credit for the slime world quest if it is up.
3: Very short set of quests.
4: You will have to /emote while clicked on a set of stones.
