How To Create A Shadowlands
Speed Gear
Set
I created my first Speed Set guide,
How To Create A Battle For Azeroth Speed Gear Set
, due to a continual demand for information about how I was able to move so fast. I am fielding many of the same questions, along with requests from quite a few people wondering if I'd create a Shadowlands version. So, without further ado, here is my Shadowlands version.
Within the Shadowlands expansion at level 60, there are great ways to increase your base speed.
Base speed is your overall running speed, and does not include any temporary increases like food, potions, flasks, etc.
As of 02/22/2021:
My base speed in Shadowlands areas is 192.4%
My base speed in Legacy content is 210.475%
Whether you are running old content for transmog gear or achievement, doing gathering professions, or you just simply want to see just how fast you can be, this guide can help you get quicker. While this guide will have sections geared specifically towards hunters, most of the content will be beneficial for any class. You'll see guides out there about speed running certain dungeons or raids, but if you have a gear set that increases your base speed high enough, EVERY run becomes a speed run!
So let's go ahead and get started!
Shadowlands Expansion Areas Versus All Previous Content
There is a major difference for speed sets in Shadowlands compared to previous expansions. Certain speed increases that work in areas from previous expansion content will not work within Shadowlands areas. For this reason I will be highlighting the difference between two different speed sets.
I will be starting off this guide working only with items that increase speed within Shadowlands. Later on in the guide I will focus on items that, while inactive in Shadowlands zones, you can still use to maximize your speed for doing legacy content in any other areas of Warcraft.
Script For Figuring Your Base Movement Speed
You'll need a way to track your speed as you go along making improvements. The following is an exceptional macro:
/script base = BASE_MOVEMENT_SPEED
/script cur, run, fly, swim = GetUnitSpeed("player")
/script ChatFrame1:AddMessage(string.format("Your current maximal speeds are: running %g%%, flying %g%%, swimming %g%%.", run/base*100, fly/base*100, swim/base*100))
I have this macroed and dropped right on my action bar so I can quickly click and see where I'm at in terms of my speed. It offers you current running, flying, and swim speed.
Gear Items With Tertiary Speed
One of the key components to building a speed set is to collect as many pieces as you can that have the tertiary (minor) attribute "speed". One interesting results of the overall level squish is that it led to speed items from Battle for Azeroth (BFA) remaining very effective in shadowlands. This was not the case with Legion speed items after the stat squish when BFA launched, they were drastically reduced. While this is a welcome change for your speed set, you'll still want to get speed on Shadowlands gear items because every little bit of speed you get adds up quickly.
Currently you can get tertiary speed on any of the 16 regular gear slot items. You can't get speed on a shirt or tabard. I have speed on 12 items. Five of those items thus far are from Shadowlands. My head, neck, shoulder, and chest did not have tertiary speed in BFA as those were the azerite related slots, and I have only gotten a chest item with the speed stat for those slots so far. We'll discuss the azerite items, as well as my cloak and feet items later in the guide (see the enchants section for feet and cloak). As a hunter, I do not have an off hand. One other way to get tertiary speed is to use the
跨界聚簇宝石
. See the
Speed Gems
section for more info on this item. Be aware, Shadowlands gear with tertiary speed will always be better than the 13 tertiary speed you get from a gemmed item. Even BFA gear can have higher tertiary speed than that.
Tertiary speed works as follows. Every 10 tertiary speed adds 1% to your base speed, all the way until you have 10% bonus speed (110% overall base speed). So if you equip an item with 33 speed, that will give you 3.3% bonus speed (113.3% overall base speed). Be aware, if you are looking at the "Speed" under your in-game character attributes, that will round up or down to the nearest number, but your actual speed will be the percentage (54 tertiary speed will show as "5%" but will actually be 5.4%). You can confirm this by doing a mouse-over on your "Speed" numbers.
Upon reaching 100 tertiary speed (10% bonus speed), diminishing returns kicks in. The graph below illustrates how the diminishing returns works.
I will demonstrate with my own current speed to show how this works.
Currently I have 266 tertiary speed, which is a bonus of 19.64% (119.64% base speed).
My first 100 speed gives me a full 10% speed (100 X 0.1 = 10%).
The next 50 speed (100-150) gives me 4% (50 X 0.08 = 4%).
The next 50 speed (150-200) gives me 3% (50 X 0.06 = 3%).
My last 87 speed (200-287) gives me 3.48% (87 X 0.04 = 3.48%).
So that's 10% + 4% + 3% + 3.48% = 20.48%. I can confirm this on the Attributes panel on my Character Info screen in-game.
Any tertiary speed above 200 will increase your base speed by 0.04%, there is no hard cap. For instance, if you have 400 tertiary speed, your first 200 will give you 17% speed. The last 200 will give you 8% speed (200 X 0.4 = 8).
The "speed" stat itself has been available for a couple of expansions now, and honestly the best way to collect them is to start right at the beginning of the expansion. It is very difficult to just go "build a speed set" using just items with tertiary speed on them, due to the low drop rate. Shadowlands made this even more difficult due to reducing the amount of gear that drops from raid bosses, and also reducing the amount of gear you can get from running mythic+ dungeons. I save every item that drops with speed on it and compare it to speed items I've already collected. If I don't have have an item with "speed" in that slot already, or the new item has more speed (higher item level) than a previous slot item, I keep the higher speed item.
Doing every world quest that gives gear, along with a couple dungeons a day, you will likely get between 1-2 items a month with the "speed" stat. This was probably 1-2 items a week before, but gear drops were nerfed considerably in Shadowlands. Hence the need to start early, you can't just build a set easily. It takes a lot of time and patience. Shadowlands Runecarving Legendary Gear can not have tertiary stats, unfortunately.
The weekly Great Vault reward after each Tuesday server reset is also a great opportunity to get a piece of gear with tertiary speed. The vault gives you the opportunity to select one piece of gear from up to nine different choices (3 for raid, 3 for mythic plus dungeons, and 3 for PVP rewards). You can mouse-over each piece of gear, and you can see if the gear has a tertiary stat such as speed or leech on it even before you make your selection. The obvious downside is that you may end up choosing between a better piece of gear (item level/stats) for doing current content, or a lower level (or worse stats) item that happens to have tertiary speed. But it is still good to at least have the opportunity to make such a selection.
"But what about farming items from previous expansions, like BFA Benthic gear, for instance?"
You could potentially farm world quests or get other gear from a previous expansion to try and farm items with speed, however those items will not have as much speed on them as a current Shadowlands piece of gear.
Socketing Gear With Speed Gems
There are currently three gems available that you can use to increase your speed. These are:
-
跨界贤者玛瑙石
- 5% speed increase
-
跨界绿铱石
- 3% speed increase
-
跨界聚簇宝石
- tertiary speed is increased by 13 for each Shadowlands gem you have socketed (as noted by user
Xandraroes
in the comments section)
Obviously to use these items, you'll need to have a gear piece that has a socket. Ideally you'd want both tertiary speed and a socket. If you have to choose an item with "speed" versus an item with a socket (and one of these gems), odds are the socketed item with one of the above gems will be your choice due to higher speed results.
For the first two, you can use one 3% gem and one 5% gem, for a total of 8% increased speed, with no diminishing returns.
The third item will be dependent on having multiple sockets, because you'll need to have at least two socketed items before you see a benefit. Be aware that any tertiary speed you add via the sockets will be subject to the same diminishing returns that is explained in the
Tertiary Speed
section above. Please note here: Any piece of gear with tertiary speed is going to far outweigh a same slot piece of gear giving you just 13 tertiary speed. For instance, my Shadowlands gear with tertiary speed has 22 to 48 speed, and the numbers go up the higher your item level goes. I have BFA gear with more than 13 tertiary speed per item.
If you don't have any socketed gear items you can use this in currently, check the auction house. I find the crafted rings are a good place to start, many of them have sockets. if you have the gold to spend, you can usually find a decent item level raid BoE with a socket for sale also.
There is a way in Shadowlands to add a socket to your gear. Within
The Maw
, there is an NPC named
威·娜莉
that sells the
空间重组装置
for 7200
冥殇
, once you raise Ve'nari's opinion of you to Appreciative or higher ("opinion" is basically Venari's version of reputation). This item can add a socket to a helm, neck, bracer, belt, or ring.
Enchants That Increase Speed
There are a number of enchants that can help you to increase your speed, most notably for your cloak and boot slots.
The boot enchant is
初级速度
. This is a flat 10% increase not associated with tertiary speed. For this reason, using this enchant on a legacy set of boots will always outdo a current Shadowlands pair of boots that have tertiary speed. The max item level boots that this enchant can be put on are boots from the Legion expansion. For mail wearers,
堕落君王伊米隆
is the first boss in the
Maw of Souls
, and he drops
蔑潮战靴
. Because he is near the beginning of the instance, you can kill him repeatedly on normal until the boots drop (until you hit the timed instance lockout after 10 attempts that is). An even better option, although it will likely take more time, is to keep farming till you get a set of the boots with a socket, because either of the speed gems listed above can be socketed into a set of Legion boots.
The next one is going to be your cloak enchant. If you have a Shadowlands cloak with 20 or more tertiary speed and enchanted with
强化速度
(which gives 30 tertiary speed), this will be your default choice. Even at the highest diminishing returns, that 50 tertiary speed will give you 2% more base speed, the same as a lower level cloak with
附魔披风 - 爆击之赐
(or variant, listed below).
But until you get a Shadowlands cloak with at least 20 tertiary speed, there is a better WoD Level 40 cloak enchant to use. There are four different versions of this enchant:
附魔披风 - 爆击之赐
附魔披风 - 急速之赐
附魔披风 - 精通之赐
附魔披风 - 全能之赐
Buy whichever one is least expensive, because you are only really interested in the 2% movement speed from this enchant. This 2% buff is a flat increase to your overall speed that has nothing to do with tertiary speed.
When I first used this enchant, I had a low level Warlords of Draenor (WoD) cloak, because getting an extra 2% movement speed was worth it. Another option is to create a heirloom cloak on a low level character, enchant the cloak on that character, then mail it to your level 60 toon. Obviously your best bet is to have that cloak upgraded to 4/4. Currently I have the
黑暗男爵的世袭斗篷
, at item level 58. This is better than a WoD cloak, but does not have nearly the item level benefit that it had during BFA. If another upgrade level is added for heirlooms during Shadowlands, it could significantly improve the use of the heirloom cloak. For now however, your biggest benefit is the 2% movement speed enchant, so if getting a WoD cloak is easier for you than the heirloom, that's the better choice. Again, this is just until you get a Shadowlands cloak with 20 or more tertiary speed (and the
强化速度
).
"But, aren't you sacrificing a lot of item levels in order to use enchants on lower tier gear?"
Yes, but remember, this set is mainly for running old content more quickly, and in those situations, the gear level is still sufficient to one shot most everything, or spend maybe five seconds downing raid bosses.
Covenant Based Speed Enhancements
Shadowlands has four covenants, each with its own unique benefits. Kyrian, Night Fae, Necrolord, and Venthyr. Be aware, these benefits require a specific Soulbind Denizen (covenant path). I will be updating this further as I learn more about each covenant. Be aware that many of these appear to work ONLY in actual Shadowlands zones.
Kyrian
Soulbind
试炼之路
Requires Renown 3
Night Fae
As a hunter, I chose Night Fae, as this is the top dps covenant for hunters at the time I'm writing this. This also appears to be the best choice from a pure speed perspective.
灵魂变形
is an excellent speed enhancement that can be used every 90 seconds, or indefinitely in rest areas.
保持移动
requires Renown 3, and helps reduce the cooldown considerably on Soulshape.
Another beneficial ability you get at Renown 10 is
快速巡逻
. This is a wonderful speed increaser, but unfortunately for whatever reason this ONLY works in Shadowlands zones.
梦游者
's speed buff requires Renown 29. This works in legacy areas too, not just Shadowlands. When you enter a portal or are summoned it removes the buff, requiring a 60 second wait in a rest area to get it back, so it can't be used in dungeons or raids, but still a very good buff anywhere else.
Necrolord
Soulbind
与吵吵一起旅行
Requires Renown 3
Soulbind
软骨脚趾
Requires Renown 34
Venthyr
Soulbind
眩目步法
Requires Renown 3
Class Specific Soulbinds
One hunter specific finesse soulbind should be mentioned here, and that is
猎豹活力
. This increases the secondary movement speed time while reducing the cooldown on
猎豹守护
.
Other Speed Increasing Items
Let me start off by stating that this will be a work in progress, as there was such a large demand for a Shadowlands Speed Set Guide that I am pushing this out a little earlier than I otherwise might have. I know there are a lot of different gear items out there currently that have "on-use" speed increasers, such as
过载的心能电池
. Due to the cooldown nature of these items, I'm hesitant to add those in, however continue to update me in the comments section with these types of items, as it may be worth updating in the future.
瑞文戴尔之剑
is one of the best speed items in the game, provided your class is able to wield a two handed sword. This item adds 10% to your overall speed. This is not tertiary speed, this is just a flat 10% speed increase Now you may ask, why would you want to use a melee weapon as a beast mastery hunter? Well, 10% is a huge increase, so I just put the sword and ranged weapon on my action bar and click to switch them. But if all I'm doing is old bosses, smacking them with this sword is good enough to do the trick. On 12/01/2020 we had a scare, as Blizzard nerfed this item at level 50 and above, but then a couple days later they reversed their decision. Thank goodness!
So, they've ruined it once again. Now this item only gives 16 speed, pretty much pointless for most of us that are already running such a large amount of speed that we see less than 1% of an increase (0.52% for me currently). I'm not going to go through and change all my numbers here. The best advice I've got is to go in game and click on Suggestion or even Bug for that matter, and just repeatedly report that you want the speed increase back. I really fail to see how the change to this item helps the game in any way. It's like someone at Blizzard looked at the item "Oh my, that's a pretty decent item for running old content... nerf it". Really dumb.
鎏金之途长靴
give a 30% buff for 6 seconds each time you loot gold from a kill. Much more useful against humanoid trash than creature trash, due to the gold loot requirement. There will be some dungeons this will be far beneficial than others based on human npcs versus other enemies (that don't have gold).
狼群之饥
is a speed trinket that increases speed by 30% for kills that offer experience or honor. This will not work with low level content (WoD and below), however this does work in Shadowlands, BFA, and Legion. During BFA I killed a level 81 player in world PVP in Mount Hyjal and it proc'ed for me (At that time I was level 120). This trinket is certainly worth using for farming in Legion and above, even for current content, provided your overall gear isn't too underpowered.
无眠部族披风
is a cloak that increases speed by 140 for 4 seconds, provided you have been standing still for 4 seconds. The easier the content, the less useful this cloak is. Your entire reason for having a speed set is to be moving non stop, as much as you can. Therefore most any dungeon/raid/world content that you can one shot with one ability makes this cloak useless because you will be moving constantly. Now, in raids/dungeons/world content where it takes you more than 4 seconds to down whatever you are fighting, this cloak has more potential. Just remember, if you are looting bosses, ranged classes are usually moving to get the loot, which starts the speed buff. You'll be looting, usually looking at the content, that can potentially take longer than 4 seconds and cancel out the benefit. Melee may have better luck.
There are two food items that can be used to increase your speed for a short time after each kill,
香炸骨鱼
and
生拌熊肉糜
.
香炸骨鱼
will give you 308 tertiary speed for 5 seconds after a kill, for a 21.32% increase in speed.
生拌熊肉糜
will give you 88 tertiary speed for 5 seconds after a kill, for an 8.8% increase in speed.
These numbers are with a baseline of 100% speed, with no tertiary speed gear worn. Unfortunately both food items have a significant diminishing return depending upon how much tertiary speed your gear is already giving you. Obviously if you do not have any tertiary speed gear, these will be far more benefitial. You can use the table in the
Tertiary Speed
section above to determine if this will benefit you. You can't stack these two items because you can only have one food buff at any given time.
I tried to use the
水上漂
, but this is again a tertiary speed buff, so it is subject to those same diminishing returns. But more significant here: this does NOT stack with
附魔披风 - 爆击之赐
.
水上漂
used by itself, on a toon with the base level 100 speed, will buff you 10% (110% total). But once you start adding tertiary speed, the buff is drastically reduced, where as
附魔披风 - 爆击之赐
is an overall 2% buff to your speed regardless of tertiary speed stats. Besides, you already have
初级速度
that works and stacks with
附魔披风 - 爆击之赐
, and is not affected by tertiary speed.
For items that users at level 60 cannot benefit from, I avoided doing comparisons with those. This used to include speed increasing legendaries like
警戒栖木
and
塞弗斯的秘密
, but as of the Shadowlands prepatch, the legacy legendary effects are no longer active at any level. This is unfortunate because before Shadowlands, you could use them to increase your speed drastically in timewalking dungeons (where your level is scaled down to the dungeon level).
Hunter Class Specific Traits
Now we get to the hunter specific area. Selecting the
开拓者
talent gives a 30% speed increase "anytime you have not attacked for 3 seconds". An important note about this: notice this doesn't say "out of combat" meaning this speed is maintained even if someone attacks you (not counting snares/slows/stuns obviously). As long as you have not attacked, even if you aggro, or someone jumps you in pvp, this speed increase remains intact.
Then select a cunning pet to get the 8% speed increase
寻路
, and select talent
野兽守护
to increase the effect to a 12% speed increase. I use an
亚基
(formerly known as silithids, renamed for Shadowlands) in order to take advantage of the
沙丘阔步者
ability, which increases the pet's speed by 30%. A pet with the Dune Strider ability has a much lower chance of despawning due to you outrunning it. There are other options that may be helpful based on the particular activity you are doing, such as the
水黾
with the
凌波微步
exotic ability that allows you to run across the top of water instead of having to slow down and swim.
Using
逃脱
with the
迅疾如风
talent will increase your speed by 50% when you disengage. That 50% is only as a portion of your 100% baseline speed, for 4 seconds after you land. Still an excellent speed buff.
Using
猎豹守护
increases speed by 90% for 3 seconds, followed by a 30% speed increase for 9 seconds. At level 46 you'll get rank 2
猎豹守护
, which increases your initial movement speed by 2 seconds. You'll also want to be sure to have the finesse soulbind
猎豹活力
activated (as mentioned in the Covenant section above) to increase the secondary movement speed time while reducing the cooldown on
猎豹守护
. Be sure to select the PVP talent
狩猎队伍
which will reduce the cooldown on
猎豹守护
by 50%. Note however,
狩猎队伍
has no effect inside of Dungeon or Raid instances, as those are non-pvp areas. In most open world areas however, the use of
猎豹活力
with
狩猎队伍
reduces the cooldown for
猎豹守护
to less than 90 seconds, allowing you to use it more than twice as often. This is very beneficial.
迅疾如风
and
猎豹守护
do NOT stack, the speed buff will default to whatever is individually highest. The best way to use them for the longest sustained increase is to cast
逃脱
, then as it expires use
猎豹守护
, as it expires
逃脱
should be coming off cooldown, so you can use it again. This can allow you a speed boost for 25 seconds straight (provided you have Aspect of the Cheetah set up per the above paragraph)\. Of course you can continue to use
逃脱
every 20 seconds after that on cooldown.
Overall Speed Inside Shadowlands Areas
So what are my overall results within Shadowlands areas from using all of the above speed enhancements?
For hunter class specific, I have and my cunning pet with its , that gets me to
142% base speed
(30% + 12%).
Then equipping all 12 of my items with tertiary speed gave me 287 overall tertiary speed for an 20.48% buff, for
162.48% base speed
.
I am currently using a Shadowlands cloak with
强化速度
, because the cloak also has 27 tertiary speed on it. As I get more gear with higher tertiary speed, I will use my
黑暗男爵的世袭斗篷
with the
附魔披风 - 爆击之赐
, because the 2% speed increase will be greater than the diminishing returns on the Shadowlands cloak.
Two of my gear items were socketed with the
跨界贤者玛瑙石
(5% speed increase) and
跨界绿铱石
(3% speed increase), bringing the total to
170.48% base speed
.
For boots, the choice is between the item level 44 boots with
初级速度
, or
鎏金之途长靴
. For purposes of 100% uptime on speed, I'll go with the 44 boots for now, raising my
base speed to 180.48%,
exactly a 10% increase.
Now, one of my speed items is my bow, which has +21 tertiary speed. Removing that brings my speed level down to 179.64%. Then wielding my
瑞文戴尔之剑
increases my speed by 10%, giving me a
base speed of 189.64%
.
This is the highest base speed I've been able to achieve thus far inside of Shadowlands.
Using
逃脱
with the talent
迅疾如风
increases my speed to 239.64% for 4 seconds upon landing.
Using
猎豹守护
increases speed by 90% for 5 seconds, for a total of 279.64%, which drops to a 30% speed increase for 12 seconds, at 219.64%.
Replacing my
初级速度
boots with the
鎏金之途长靴
lowered my base speed to 179.64%, but upon looting any gold, increased my speed by 30% to 209.64% for 6 seconds. There were times I was able to keep that 30% speed buff up nearly all the time doing back to back kills in certain areas. Again, human NPCs are the best for using these boots, because they drop gold.
Replacing my tertiary speed trinket with the
狼群之饥
resulted in a loss of 13 tertiary speed, dropping my base speed to 189.12%. Upon killing an enemy that yields experience or honor, raises the speed to 219.12% (30% increase) for 10 seconds. Again, this item if limited in scope for where it is effective due to the "experience or honor" requirement. This item will not work in pre-Legion content.
The speed benefits of
狼群之饥
and
鎏金之途长靴
do not stack with each other, just something to remember when considering a gear set.
Having
快速巡逻
active in my Covenant will increase my speed by 20% to 209.64% for 2 minutes, and this will stack with either of the above items (but not both at the same time, as mentioned). I have noticed that once in awhile the enemy you are attacking will get a final hit in on you after you kill it, and that will drop the
快速巡逻
speed buff. Same thing if you get attacked and run away/feign death. As soon as you attack/are attacked, the speed buff drops off.
Activating
灵魂变形
raises my overall speed to 229.64%. This is only a 40% increase, versus the 50% the ability should be providing. This is because, for whatever reason, when
灵魂变形
is active, the 10% speed benefit from
瑞文戴尔之剑
is not recognized. I thought at first the
灵魂变形
may just not recognize that a weapon is wielded when you are shape-shifted, but it does recognize my tertiary speed bow (raised my speed to 230.48%). Just something to be aware of. Because
灵魂变形
can be used indefinitely when in a rested area such as
Oribos
, I'm actually faster using this with my speed set than I am on a ground mount.
Further Increasing Speed Outside Of Shadowlands
This section will focus on increasing your speed even further doing legacy content in zones from previous expansions. Most of what you will see will be focused squarely on items related to the
艾泽拉斯之心
artifact neck from BFA. Nearing the end of BFA in September of 2020, the big concern with regard to speed sets was that Blizzard would make all effects from the
艾泽拉斯之心
inactive, much like they did with artifact weapons after the Legion expansion. These items are inactive within Shadowlands, but thankfully in all previous expansion content they are working.
远行者
is a speed increasing Azerite trait you can get on your helm, shoulder, and chest Azerite Gear. This gear must be worn in conjunction with the
艾泽拉斯之心
neck in order to function.
On the highest level mythic raiding gear, this Azerite Trait can increase your movement speed by up to 30% of your highest secondary rating, up to 9%. Lower level Azerite gear will have lower max speed percentages.
You can find more information about ways to get gear with
远行者
in my
BFA Speed Gear Set
page.
For my hunter, my highest secondary rating is Critical Strike, so that is what the movement speed of the
远行者
trait will be based on for me.
My Azerite Gear items:
(ignore the gear link item levels, those are the page defaults)
- 135 Helm
血腥恐惧面容
- 11.26% X .30 = 3.377% speed.
- 120 Shoulders
腐化角斗士的链甲披肩
- 11.26% X .27 = 3.039% speed.
- 135 Chest
堕落妖术师法衣
- 11.26% X .30 = 3.377% increase.
The 11.26% in the formula above is my critical strike percentage, which can be found under Enhancements in the Character Stats tab from your Character Info in-game window. I have 10% base critical strike, and the 44 critical strike on the
艾泽拉斯之心
adds another 1.26%. The .30 is the 30% of my critical strike (highest secondary rating). Notice how the lower level 120 Shoulders only give 27% (.27).
These 3 items worn together do in fact stack, the overall speed increase is 9.793%.
With the rest of my gear worn, I have a total of 217 Critical Strike, at 16.20%. The formula to get the total speed for each Azerite Gear piece is as follows:
-Helm: 16.20% X .30 = 4.86% speed
-Shoulders: 16.20% X .27 = 4.374% speed
-Chest: 16.20% X .30 = 4.86% speed
Adding the three together using this formula indicates that the critical strike bonus should bring the overall
远行者
increase to 14.094% speed.
We already know that my Shadowlands speed set listed above has a base speed of 187.72%. In order to maximize my critical strike numbers, I switched a couple of items out, and before wearing my Azerite gear, my base speed is 187.68%.
Worn with the Azerite gear, this increases my speed to 201.774% (187.68% + 14.094%).
It is worth noting, that with the

setup, you could potentially have an item with critical strike (or whatever your highest secondary is) that outdoes an item with tertiary speed on it. You'll have to compare your gear and see.
For every 100 of your highest secondary stat you are able to add, you'll gain another 2.8% movement speed. This is incremental, meaning for every 1 critical strike you add, you'll gain 0.028% speed. This is significantly higher than during BFA, where 100 of your highest secondary stat would give you 1% speed. This is due to the stat squish that came during the Shadowlands prepatch. To put this into perspective, I had more than 1000 critical strike in BFA, now (01/10/2021) I have 217.
Selecting the essence
空间涟漪
Rank 3 on your
艾泽拉斯之心
adds 5% speed, same as it did in BFA.
This current highest speed I've gotten to in legacy content is
206.774% base speed
Activating
灵魂变形
and wielding my tertiary speed weapon raises my overall speed to 248.385% (indefinite in rest areas, 15 seconds otherwise).
The 206.774% base speed is about 10% lower than the highest speed I was able to obtain in BFA, which was 217.051%. That being said, I'm sure there is more speed to be had in Shadowlands. Please feel free to comment on what you find. I'll update the guide as I get more information.
Updates 3/10/21:
Updated
梦游者
to show it can be used in legacy areas also, not just shadowlands.
Updates 2/22/21:
Changed the recommendation for cloak + enchant to use, as the previous recommendation was based on the incorrect premise that a cap existed on the amount of tertiary speed that you could have.
Updated my current boots from a WoD level 44 pair to a Legion level 50 set, as the
初级速度
can now be used on Legion boots.
Edited a Night Fae covenant ability.
Added in the Great Vault as an alternative to finding gear with tertiary speed on it.
Updates 7/24/21:
A rather depressing update as
瑞文戴尔之剑
has once again been nerfed, from a 10% speed increase (not affiliated with tertiary speed) to a flat increase of 13 tertiary speed that helps no one with a good speed set already. As stated above, go to Suggestion or Bug in game and let them know you want this changed back.
I am not online much lately, a lot of activity IRL taking place has pulled me from the game, I'm still around doing auctions but that's about it, no new content, no dailies, no raiding, no mythic+ or pvp, and as such, not a lot of speed research. I'll do the best I can with updates here, but for the last few months (and the foreseeable future) I'm not doing any grinding in game.

Happy to see the guide continued! I don't think the 20% hard cap for tertiary stats is correct. I kept my Hunter locked at level 50 and I'm getting 26.06% speed just from my 130 speed stat. I do remember hitting a hard cap back in Beta testing before they nerfed the socket set method, but that was 49%, which is impossible to get even close to currently. I plan to keep my Hunter at either 50 or 51 through Shadowlands to max him there, will report back if I end up hitting any cap.
One tip I'd add is for the feet gear slot. All Legion content drops level 50 gear. This is great because the 10% speed enchant and the 3%/5% BfA speed gems can both be placed on the same piece, freeing up a socket on other gear for
跨界聚簇宝石
or gems to activate it. So find a dungeon where the first boss drops boots you can equip, and just spam the first boss until you get boots that roll a socket (Maw of Souls works well for Hunters).

Hey, I have a question.
I still have a couple of characters level locked at 45 from bfa when they were 110 twinks. These alts have the heart of azeroth which is impossible to obtain now at that level as the quest for it starts at 50.
Do you think these twinks are worth something? I want to keep my dh and druid levellocked anyways as they are skinner/miner/herb and it's useful to farm that in empty chromie time shards, but then I also have my secondary war who is my main inscription char and I kinda want to level him and ditch him as a speed twink, but maybe I'm wasting something away doing that.
What do you think? War speed twinks got the speed mainly from legion leg boots anways and that is gone, but having a war speed twink is still useful for weapon + plate transmog farming. How is a war speed twink at 60?

A high enough ilvl Shadowlands cloak with >26 speed (ilvl 184 has +27 speed) and the Fortified Speed enchant is going to be faster than a cloak under ilvl 47 with tertiary speed and the 'Gift of' enchant, even at >201 speed stat.
Also for a cloth speed set you can get 2 pieces from the BfA item set
顺风法袍
for a +5% movement speed set bonus. Preferably legs and hands as they're the only slots which you can't get Shadowlands sockets on, but you can farm the NZoth sockets for them if they don't randomly proc and place your +3% and +5% straddling gems on them. To get them you'd just have to wait for the specific Zandalar world quests that drop them to be up.

Great guide!
As a warlock, I was simply wondering if there any HP regen tools, that could be used while using
爆燃冲刺
as well. Still working on my speed set (need 1 more socket + 1-2 azerite pieces) but sitting at 140% base speed atm, and 190% with Burning Rush.
So far, I've been using
炽天使鸡柳
to be able to stay in Burning Rush a bit longer, so it would be awesome if I could find more HP regen stuff to help!

So as stated in the previous comment,
瑞文戴尔之剑
was nerfed. Truly boneheaded move by Blizzard, in what apparently is a full set of boneheaded behavior by them lately.
I advise that everyone submit a suggestion or even bug report to get this changed back, perhaps we can get a second revert to get our 10% speed back. Such a silly change for them to make, there is next to nothing that can justify this as a good idea, you wouldn't be dumb enough to use this in PVP because you'd get destroyed by the lower item level.

Hey, I used to craft Fel Leather boots at vl 47 to enchant with Minor speed. I did it cus I thought I could smack the 2 run speed gems in those 2 slots, but the item is too low for the 3 and 5% straddling gems.
There for its better to buy the Boots from Broken Isle ( With Nethershards). The downs side is some times they proc to ilvl 60, but managed to get socket + speed on one of them. at Ilvl 50 I proc'ed 21 crit ( single stat) 7-9 speed and socket
Just a thought

You get a benefit from just one Shadowlands gem -- you don't have to use two before you see a benefit. If you socket just one and it's the Straddling Jewel Doublet, you will get +13 Tertiary Speed from just that one.

If you are on a new character, i suggest doing

at level 44. 2 socket ilvl 50 boots. This way u can optimize 18% into one item and then stack your Longstrider secondary stat in your shadowlands sockets.

increased mobility outside of instances.

For boots outside of Shadowlands, the best options that do not require any RNG are the crafted pieces that can take the Relics of the Past as mats to adjust their iLevel which also have 2 sockets.
The best options I've found are as follows:
Cloth
-
落花便鞋
/
落花软鞋
crafted with
故往神器 IV
Leather
-
魔能皮甲长靴
crafted with
故往神器 IV
Mail
-
虚空之怒长靴
crafted with
故往神器 IV
Plate
-
魂钢护胫
/
魂钢护足
/
魂钢战靴
crafted with
故往神器 IV
All of the above offer actual 2ndary stats and 2 sockets. And with
故往神器 IV
used as an optional crafting reagent will be iLevel 48 (thus still able to be enchanted with
初级速度
and take epic Legion 2ndary stat gems).
*NOTE* The mail option is the weakest of all armor types since the only pair with an actual relevant 2ndary for Longstrider purposes has Versatility. It may be better to use
精制恐怖角斗士的活跃马靴
/
精制恐怖角斗士的冥想锁甲之靴
crafted at iLevel 48 or any of the mail boots from Mythic Siege of Orgrimmar since they provide more easily stacked 2ndary stats for Longstrider, though both the MoP crafted PvP boots and those from SoO only offer 1 gem socket.

I found a way how to combine
初级速度
and
跨界贤者玛瑙石
跨界绿铱石
in boots. You will need someone who has a level 45 character. He must be in Chromie's time. Take him to the group and fly together to the BC dungeon, where you can get boots with 2 sockets. (
平静便鞋
,
流沙长靴
,
复兴之靴
,
铁底靴
,
巨人之靴
). A level 45 character will receive 50ilvl items which he can give you. So this will allow you to get a 18% increase in movement speed in one item.

It's already been mentioned by arndegothia, the easiest to-go to boots solo is spamming
果敢便鞋
for ilvl50 with a socket; they can proc both speed and a socket, but speed's just 9, so I did not go further than a socket. I tested
挖出的恩佐斯之眼
as they're now ilvl50, but it doesn't work on anything. Having said that, If you can (ab)use a friend/guildie and use Chromie time, check Saurfang2's post for specific dual socket drops.

With 9.2 shadowlands specific speed gets a big boost with
结构图:纯气外帆
This is 62 speed per slot, and stacks for up to 826 speed for alchemist, or 764 for non-alchemist. The mount speed component does stack, is ground and shadowlands only.
These are crafted slot gear, so ilvl 262 for one slot and 233 for the remainder.
For comparison a 278 raid boot with +speed only provides 58 speed:
预制足垫
?bonus=42:1524. you would have to get up to ilvl 332 before dropped +speed beats these.
A 278 raid 2h gives 77, but since SL can't craft blue weapons (which would be the requirement to add the sails) the crafted speed gear is over the top better than max ilvl drops as long as the ilvl isn't affecting you.

As of 9.2, this is probably pretty close to a "general BiS" +run speed set. All of these items are available to all classes, all run speed increases have 100% uptime, and are useable in all situations (except Azerite gear, which doesn't work in Shadowlands zones).

Notes
All items crafted with
纯气外帆
have +62 speed at ilvl 233 and +82 speed at 262. (The +run speed component of this enchancement works everywhere; the mounted speed increase is disabled everywhere but outdoor Shadowlands zones.)
Yes, there are other items that have speed procs or can't be worn by all classes, but this list is focused on 100% uptime and items available for all classes.
You can swap Shadowlance for any of the same crafted leather, mail, or plate pieces.
You can substitute versatility for any other secondary stat
, but the point is you want to
stack the same stat
as much as possible to increase the effect of Longstrider.
Alchemists: your trinket will only give +vers, so all the rest of your crafted gear should be +vers, including your other trinket.
Non-Alchemists: pick trinkets with the +secondary stat you're stacking for 100% uptime, or go for a trinket with a run speed proc.
Any of the Shadowlace pieces crafted with one missive of have a chance to give double (instead of + +random second stat), so those are ideal.
I recommend putting the 262 on the legs is because it has the biggest stat budget of the non-Azerite slots.
Azerite gear doesn't work in Shadowlands, but I'm running with the assumption most are using speed sets for running older content.
You could a little more speed by getting the two speed gems on
平静便鞋
per Sarufang2's comment, and then put
跨界聚簇宝石
+ another gem on the rings. But you can get green boots under level 50 with at least 5-10 speed, so getting those boots using Chromie Time is putting in work to get a pretty small increase, unless you can find a way to equip more SL gems. But there are no SL trinkets with sockets, so you'd have to be replacing one of the other items, all of which give greater than +13 speed provided by the gem.

A Decent starter boot option is either
果敢便鞋
or a random Legion daily. Of course you will replace them soon, if youre serious, but because the enchanting mats are cheap, it doesnt cost you much. Also I dont see this mentioned:
疾风之行
It also works on every ranged hunter weapon, if you transmog it to the MM bow from legion.

Lunarpaw
It's worth mentioning that if you can manage to get an
永恒者的挽歌
even from LFR, the increase to your highest secondary stat would convert to speed via Longstrider.

Just as I did for Dillybar's BfA Speed Guide, I'm going to document all the changes affecting speed sets I've currently found on the Dragonflight Beta. Please keep in mind a lot of this can still change. Blizzard changed a ton of things affecting speed just before the Shadowlands launch.
Class Abilities:
Things such as
开拓者
and
寻路
do not appear to be changed. Most classes even gained new movement speed talents in the revamped trees.
Gems:
No change to the Shadowlands gem
跨界聚簇宝石
. The BfA gems
跨界绿铱石
and
跨界贤者玛瑙石
have been nerfed to no longer give a flat 3% and 5% increase, and now give a much less effective +speed stat. Oddly on the current build the uncommen gem is giving +28 speed and the rare gem is only giving +19 speed, so they may still be balancing these.
Enchants:
No change to the boot enchant
初级速度
. Still gives the full 10% movement speed.
Covenant Abilities:
Covenant abilities, including
灵魂变形
, no longer work outside of Shadowlands content.
Crafted Gear:
The non-jewelry crafted gear with +speed documented above in the comment from Tyrsenus has received a slight nerf. The 233 gear each now give +58 speed (down from +62), the 262 gear gives +68 (down from +82), and the 233 rings give +63 (up from +62). Not a huge change, but it still adds up. Optional reagents are back for Dragonflight crafting, but there are none (yet) that provide speed.
Azerite Armor:
Probably the most impactful changes are to Azerite Armor. All Azerite Armor with
远行者
that you currently own is nerfed on the Beta. Depending on the item level, you're looking at a loss of 2-4% speed per piece. HOWEVER, and this is a big one, Battle for Azeroth
normal
dungeons are now considered level 60 content (Heroic and Mythic are now legacy content. Big thanks to silky smooth for helping bring this to my attention). This means you can run BfA normal dungeons at level 60+ and the Azerite Armor that drops with
远行者
will be item level 194, and the
远行者
tooltip states that it will increase speed
by up to 17%!
. The highest increase we had access to before was I think 9%, so this is a huge change. Note that most classes (including Hunters) only have two of the three Azerite gear slots with Longstrider available as dungeon drops (Druids have all 3), and as of 10.0 there is no known method of obtaining higher item level Azerite gear outside of dungeons.
Dragonflight Additions:
Here are a few useful items I've found coming in Dragonflight.
First is
电荷灵敏瓶剂
. Requires level 61 and is a straight +speed stat buff for 30 mins. Usefulness declines the more tertiary speed you already have (see breakpoints below), and Blizzard did not add a new version of
心华之速药水
which is not usable above level 60.
Next is a gem
possibly
coming in Dragonflight, the
. This item doesn't appear to be implemented yet on Beta, so I'll report back if it does appear for testing. Like almost all Dragonflight crafted items, there are different levels, with this one starting at +240 speed and going all the way up to +360 speed. It's also BoP, but I think the new Work Orders system will allow us to get around that fairly easily.
Third are lots of new enchants:
加速之祈
,
思乡之速
,
平原奔行者之风
,
飞速敏捷
, and
吹拂之祈
. These all scale with level, and some have lesser versions. The boot enchant will be far worse than the flat 10% speed enchant capped to ilvl 50 boots, but will be good for those that may want maximum stats on their speed sets for whatever reason.
Finally, some trinkets I found that you may want to look into. First are
离奇怀表
and
平原之息
(caster only), rewarded from quests so a chance to upgrade with tertiary speed and appear as world quest rewards. Next is
神奇的魔法妖精之花
, source currently unknown. Last is a melee trinket and is available in the starting zone of Dragonflight,
燃焰精华
. It's not a game changer as it takes some time to build up and speed sets are generally about moving fast, not standing in place, but considering there aren't a ton of good trinket options out there I wanted to mention it.
Level 70 Tertiary Speed Breakpoints:
Preliminary testing shows that for Level 70 characters, 50 tertiary speed = 1% movement speed (presumably up to 10%.) If Blizzard follows the same diminishing returns formula as before, you can expect the following: 0-500 Tertiary Speed = 0.02% Movement Speed per point; 501-750 = 0.016% per point, 751-1000 = 0.012% per point, and 1001-5000 speed = 0.008% per point.
I had an item level 340 helm roll with +192 Tertiary Speed, so as we push ilvl 400+ as the expansion progresses, it will be fairly easy to have a Speed Gear set with well over 1,000 tertiary speed.
As I play around more in the Beta, I'll update this all the way to launch.
