Introduction
I came on to Wowhead looking for some information on where to find wild battle pets to capture. Frustratingly, I was unable to find something which had the right sort of data organised in the manner that I wanted. For some insane reason I decided to make it up for myself.
This guide is quite specific to
wild pets
and where to find them. The data is repeated in a few different ways - by zone, highest level by name, and highest level by level. It is the focus on wild pets and the more convenient manner of organisation which makes this guide different. Crazy completionists like me will find this a good and reasonably quick reference for getting out and capturing every single pet.
In the
highest level by name
section (please note that it is a work in progress) I am including notes for each pet regarding it's location, plus name links to that pet's wowhead page. I felt that this information is rather lengthy and should therefore only be invovled in one section rather than repeated in all three. The alphabetical section seemed the most logical place to do this.
I have mostly confirmed the existence of all these pets in each zone, however this is primarily a collection and organisation of data rather than a research project. If I discover an error, or someone is kind enough to find one, I shall confirm and then edit the guide to provide the correct information.
Please, if you appreciate the information in this guide, rate it!
If you can think of any constructive feedback, please comment because I want to make it as good a guide as I can.

Battle Pets and Where to Find Them
has a handy chart displaying pet weaknesses and strengths by type of pet, and also outlines how to get every pet. Under the Pet Battle toggle there are wonderful lists which tell you information about each specific wild pet including name, zones, abilities, and an image of the pet.
Pet Battle: Type effectiveness, abilities, trainers and general information
is a sterling guide, teaching you the ropes of pet battles. I highly recommend it.
Apology
To anyone still using this guide, and to all the wonderful and supportive comment posters, I'd like to say thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed my guide and found it useful. I wanted it to be useful and make it easier to find information. I want to say sorry to you all though that I haven't played WoW for near on 3 years now and I'm unlikely to return. Part of the integrity of my guide was that I went out and confirmed with my own eyes that each pet was in the zone it was supposed to be in, and that I could capture it. This is not possible when I no longer play and would have to buy expansions and game time. I miss WoW a lot, but that part of my life is regretfully over.
I hope that this guide will continue to serve the community for as long as its content stays somewhat relevant.
Farewell to you.
Sincerely,
Rothana

Highest Level Wild Pets by Name
It it important for you to know how to get battle pets to spawn. You will find that for many of the unique pets, you will have to force them to spawn and that it is quite a time-consuming endeavour, particularly if you are after rares. In this section every pet will (eventually) have a comment by it which will explain where to find it and how to make it spawn, as well as a link to its wowhead page (although the information for spawn locations on their wowhead pages is currently (21 Nov 2012) rather patchy and incomplete). This information is partially speculation, but will have worked for me. Further input will be appreciated.
So, how do you get them to spawn? If the pet you are after doesn't seem to be readily available, then you're probably going to have to do a little legwork. It seems that there are only a certain number of battle pets that spawn in any given zone. Therefore, if you go around the zone and kill (either physically or through fighting or forfeiting a pet battle) other battle pets, you will be creating room for battle pet respawns. Some battle pets seem to have a "mother" mob which they spawn beside. With these, you want to raid mark the mother mobs and kill the "male" ones (hoping for more mothers to spawn in their stead). It usually takes something between 5-15 minutes for the battle pets to respawn beside their mothers. You might also want to go and kill other battle pets in the zone to help that respawn along.
It is very important to note that you will only start to see additional pets join the fight if you are battling a level 5 battle pet. At level 15 two additions will join the battle

Eastern Plaguelands
12.
Beetle
^
Silithus
16
甲虫
- commonly found.
Biletoad
^

Sholazar Basin
21
黄蟾蜍

Black Lamb
^
∞
Elwynn Forest
1
黑羔羊
- scattered across the zone. They are there, but thinly spread.
Black Rat
^
Twilight Highlands
23
黑老鼠
- fairly uncommon as an addition. They can spawn at the Crucible of Carnage, but there are not many and the respawn seems slow. Oddly there are also a couple of free-range spawns in the cluster of four lakes in the far northwest of the map.
Blighted Squirrel
^
∞
Silverpine Forest
3-5
生病的松鼠
- quite common, I found many to the southwest of Lordamere Lake.
Blighthawk
^
∞
Western Plaguelands
10
凋零雄鹰
- quite elusive unless you happen to be in the correct phase for Andorhal. If you are not, it seems that the best way to find them is to enter other pet battles and get them as an addition.
Borean Marmot
^
∞
Borean Tundra
21
北风土拨鼠
- commonly found on the grassy hills, and as an addition.
Brown Marmot
^ *
Blade's Edge Mountains
19
棕色土拨鼠
- I could not find a free-range marmot, but they commonly come as additions. There are many scalded basilisks to fight which have both
brown marmots
and
skittering cavern crawlers
joining the fight.
Bucktooth Flapper
^
∞
Jade Forest
23-24
鹿齿土拨鼠
- somewhat uncommon because they do not come as additions, you must find free-range spawns along the river and some lakes/swamps. There are some in the bottom left of the map near the shore (oddly).
Carrion Rat
^
Mount Hyjal
22-23
食腐鼠
not collected yet
Cat
^
Netherstorm
20
猫
- although it seems that the highest level cat is found in Netherstorm, they are only obtained here as an addition to a fight, and the battle pets in this zone are few and far apart. However, they are common additions.
Cheetah Cub
^
∞
Barrens (North)
3
猎豹幼崽
- found under the savannah trees which also have
Plainsland Cheetah
mobs under them. This is presumed to be a battle pet attached to mother mobs. To promote respawn, kill cheetah mobs which do not have a cheetah cub by them and also cull other battle pets.
Chicken
^
Howling Fjord
21
鸡
- found inside Westguard Keep (alliance) and also as additions throughout the zone.
Clefthoof Runt
^
∞
Nagrand
18
裂蹄小牛
- fairly common in the northern part of the zone. Be careful to kill the ones that are stuck in trees, to help them respawn in a location where you can actually battle them.
Clouded Hedgehog
^
Dread Wastes
24
迷糊的刺猬
- fairly common.
Cockroach
^
Twilight Highlands
23
蜚蠊
- commonly found as an addition, and also in a cave to the southwest of Thundermar.
Cogblade Raptor
^
∞
Blade's Edge Mountains
19
锯齿迅猛龙
not collected yet
Coral Adder
^
∞
Jade Forest
23-24
珊瑚毒蛇
- somewhat rare because they only spawn free-range at Moonwater Retreat, and they do not come as additions. The free-range spawns are not as plentiful as you might hope.
Coral Snake
^
∞
Stonetalon Mountains
5-6
珊瑚蛇
- fairly rare when looking for free-range ones, but if you go to the green clearing south of Windshear Hold on the map and fight the many spiders you will find there, the coral snakes are commonly found as additions.
Creepy Crawly
^
∞
Durotar
1
恐惧爬行者
- commonly found, although not in the watery areas.
Crested Owl
^
∞
Teldrassil
1
羽冠猫头鹰
not collected yet
Crimson Geode
^
∞
Deepholm
22-23
血红晶簇
- commonly found east of the pillar (Temple of Earth) near the twilight cultists, though some spawns are up on the ledge above in the swampy area. This is the only battle pet in this zone that will not come as an addition.
Crimson Moth
^ *
Stranglethorn (Cape)
9
赤红飞蛾

贪吃的蛆虫
- found in the catacombs just north of Valgarde, but also reasonably common as an addition.
Diemetradon Hatchling
^∞
Un'Goro Crater

Grizzly Hills
21

Fel Flame
^
∞
Shadowmoon Valley
20
邪焰

Fjord Worg Pup
^
∞
Howling Fjord
21
峡湾座狼幼崽
- commonly found on the snowy island on the west side of the map.
Flayer Youngling
^
∞
Terokkar Forest
18
剥石者幼崽
- sparse and you must encourage their respawn. They are found up on a high ledge that seems like it is in Hellfire, but is technically in Terokkar. Kill the large flayers and kill battle pets in Terokkar to promote their respawn.
Fledgling Buzzard
^
∞
Redridge Mountains
3-5
秃鹫雏鸟
- commonly found, particularly north of Redridge town where the gnolls hang out in the mountain maze.
Fledgling Nether Ray
^
∞
Netherstorm
20
虚空鳐幼体
- these seem quite rare. They spawn on the islands which have mana forges, and are often further away from the mana forge than you might expect. The spawn rate has been so slow for me that it took me days of checking the area and killing other battle pets before I saw my first one. When I try to get a rare for myself, if I can determine better information to share with you, I shall.

Forest Moth
^ *
Hyjal
22-23
森林蛾

Moonglade

Forest Spiderling
^
∞
Stranglethorn (Cape)
9
林地小蜘蛛
- commonly found, particularly as additions.
Frog
^
∞
Ashenvale
4-5
青蛙
- the best spot would seem to be along the river system rather than in the few ponds they supposedly spawn at. They are intermixed with toad spawns, making this not as simple as it would first seem to obtain a rare frog. Kill other battle pets along the riverbanks and try battling any level 5 toads you see and hope for a frog addition.
Fungal Moth
^
∞
Deepholm
22-23
真菌飞蛾
- commonly found southeast of the pillar (Temple of Earth) as well as almost due west from the pillar in that swampy bit.
Garden Frog
^
∞
Jade Forest
23-24
花园蛙
- fairly common around water near the Cloud Serpent people and the Jade Temple. They are as common as anything else in the zone as an addition to a fight.
Garden Moth
^
∞ *
Jade Forest
23-24
花园飞蛾
- commonly found as an addition. I speculate that there are only one or two free-range spawns, so I'm noting this as an addition only pet.
Gazelle Fawn
^
∞
Mulgore
1
小瞪羚
- commonly found, but scattered.
Gilded Moth
^
∞
Vale of Eternal Blossoms
23-24
镀金飞蛾
- fairly uncommon due to phasing issues and spread out spawn locations. A trick has been suggested on wowed that because these tend to spawn in packs of 3 with linked rarities, that if you leave one alive it will help the respawn rate. The two new spawns will have a different set of linked rarities.
Giraffe Calf
^
∞
Barrens (South)
9
斑纹长颈鹿
- very rare, they wander around with a
Barrens Giraffe
or two which are found wandering everywhere below the green area on the map. However, they don't seem to be up very often. I can only suggest killing the other sort of giraffes and all the other battle pets, and hope. However, with the upgrading system in patch 5.1 it may be best to find one giraffe calf and not attempt to find a rare - let others get their one giraffe.
Gold Beetle
^
Badlands
13
Tanaris
13
金甲虫
- fairly common as additions, but free-range spawns are few and far between. They are somewhat more common in Badlands if you just want to get a rare.

金色麝猫

Grotto Vole
^
∞

Horned Lizard
^
∞
Uldum
23
角蜥
- very uncommon because they can only be collected if you can find them free-range. They will not appear as an addition. Mostly found by ruins in the desert. You may have better luck finding them on a character that has not completed any quests yet because of phasing issues.
Horny Toad
^
∞
Desolace
7-8
亮鳞蜥蜴
- commonly found free-range as well as additions.
Huge Toad
^
Twilight Highlands
23
大蟾蜍
- uncommonly found as an addition, although there are a few free-range spawn in the cluster of four lakes you see in the top left of the map. If you're just after a rare, they are much more plentiful in Swamp of Sorrows 14.
Imperial Eagle Chick
^
∞
Grizzly Hills
21
皇家雏鹰
- although there are a reasonable number of spawns around, they are very spread out and take a lot of searching. Top this with some problems initiating the battle with them, and this pet becomes a bit of a pain to get a rare of, making this a good candidate to use a battlestone on if you really want a rare.
Infected Fawn

Plaguelands (Eastern)

Infected Squirrel
^
Plaguelands (Eastern)

Infested Bear Cub
^
∞
Hillsbrad Foothills
6
染病的熊崽
- resonably common. They appear to be attached to a mother mob, so rare hunters leave the mothers up and kill the bears which aren't spawning battle pet cubs next to them. The respawn reportedly takes 7-15 minutes, so be patient.

Jade Oozeling

Jade Forest
23-24
跳蛛
- commonly found and as an addition.
Jungle Darter

Larva
^
∞ *
Ghostlands
3-5
幼虫
- rare, although they do spawn out in the open, their spawn points are few and far between, as well as shared with spiders and maggots. The best way I found to obtain this pet was by getting it as an addition. Spirit crabs spawn constantly and reasonably quickly on the beach on the west side of the zone. Battle level 5 spirit crabs and hope for a larva to join. Kill spirit crabs which are below level 5 because they will not have any additional pets join them. Good luck.
Lava Beetle

金钱豹蛙
- commonly found along the main river running through the zone and in some ponds and lakes, as well as an addition to fights.

Locust

City: Undercity
1-2
洛丹伦迷途者
- found above ground, although they are almost always around, there aren't many up at one time and they seem to have a fairly slow respawn. I kept switching from these above ground and the undercity rats below ground whilst I waited for respawns.
Luyu Moth

Krasarang Wilds

魅力闪耀者
- commonly found inland, particularly around the red crane's temple. They are perhaps even more common as additions to any battle in the zone.
Minfernal
^
∞
Felwood
14
迷你地狱火
- extremely rare. This pet seems to be camped almost all the time, and the campers never seem to get up and go kill battle pets in the rest of the zone to help the respawn. I'd suggest trying to find times when there are not too many people around so that you can kill battle pets and not worry about a lazy camper stealing away the spawn when it finally occurs after your hard work.
Mirror Strider

Jade Forest

There is speculation that if you have completed all the quests you will have a phasing issue with seeing the wisps, however I did eventually find three on my main character through culling.
Oasis Moth

Restless Shadeling

Deadwind Pass
17
不息之影
- commonly found if you are there at the right time. They only spawn at night, and it seems that they also spawn in mass groups (reported to be at midnight and 6am server) however they do spawn periodically throughout the night, maybe 1-4 shadings every half hour or so. They spawn underground in the Master's Cellar which has two entrances just across from one another - sets of stairs in the ruins of the buildings in front of Karazhan (not in Karazhan).

Sandy Petrel

Krasarang Wilds

薄荷甲虫
- found in the jungle and common as additions to any battle in the zone.
Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
^
∞
Blade's Edge Mountains
19
鳞甲蜥蜴幼崽
- very plentiful, although they only spawn up north in the area called Skald near the path leading to Netherstorm. Fighting these to find
brown marmot
and
skittering cavern crawler
seems the best way to obtain these other two pets too.
Scarab Hatchling
^
Silithus
16
甲虫幼虫

Shimmershell Snail

Darkshore
3-5
闪光湖蜗牛
- quite rare with only a couple spawning at any given time, along a huge expanse of shoreline. The best way to get a rare would be to find level 5 battle pets to fight and hope that some snails show up as additions. Kill any battle pets you find which are not level 5. The best place would appear to be with the darkshore cubs which spawn in a nice cluster just north of the Master's Glaive.
Shore Crab

Silithid Hatchling
^
∞
during a sandstorm
Tanaris
13
异种幼虫
- found at the hives, but only during a sand storm. When there is a sand storm, you will know it, there is a lot of sand in the air. They reportedly spawn en-mass at the onset of a storm, but will slowly respawn during it as well (storms can last a couple of hours).
Silkbead Snail
^
∞
Jade Forest
23-24
珠丝蜗牛
- somewhat uncommon, though if you fight crabs on the shore they will turn up as additions.
Silky Moth

丝翅蛾
- commonly found in the Nordrassil clearing both free-range and as an addition.
Skittering Cavern Crawler

Blade's Edge Mountains
19
敏捷的洞穴蛛

- found up in the snowy area in the West. It seems like Dun Morogh, but is technically in Loch Modan. The Snow Cubs are much more common in Dun Morogh proper, and the level difference is negligible.
Snowshoe Hare
^
∞ *
Hillsbrad Foothills
6
雪靴野兔
- not found in the snowy area up north, where you would expect. Instead, they are found as additions to pet battles.
Snowy Owl
^
∞
only during the winter
Winterspring
17
白色猫头鹰
- somehwat rare due to a long respawn time and spread out spawn points. Speculative wisdom says that they are not linked to other battle pet spawns and that one has to just wait. This didn't stop me from killing other battle pets to be on the safe side though. There is one requirement for this pet to spawn - it must be winter. Winter in WoW begins on November 1st. (Will edit when I know when winter in WoW ends).
Softshell Snapling
^
∞
Valley of the Four Winds
23-24
软壳幼龟
- commonly found near water.
Spawn of Onyxia
^
∞
Dustwallow Marsh
12
奥妮克希亚的雏龙
- very rare, although it would seem simple enough to find them outside of Onyxia's Lair, they are not often present. Killing battle pets and dragonkin seems to help the respawn along, but it is very slow. Others have reported seeing them spawn in huge batches.
Spider
^
Zul'Drak
22
蜘蛛
- commonly found. A good way to get a rare is to farm water wavelings, which spawn in a concentrated area, in large numbers, and respawn fairly quickly.
Spiky Lizard
^
Silithus
16
刺蜥
- commonly found as an addition, not so commonly found free-range.
Spiny Lizard
^
City: Orgrimmar
1-2
骨刺蜥蜴
- commonly found, look on the protruding edges of the surrounding cliffs.
Spiny Terrapin
^
∞
Krasarang Wilds
23-24
棘刺水龟
- commonly found along the shore.
Spirebound Crab
^
∞
Jade Forest
23-24
塔边小蟹
- commonly found on the beach on the Windward Isle and uncommonly found as an addition.
Spirit Crab
^
∞
Ghostlands
3-5
灵魂蟹
- commonly found on the beach. Use these to help you get the elusive Larva pet by killing anything level 4 or lower, and battling any crab which is level 5.
Sporeling Sprout
^
∞
Zangarmarsh
18
初生孢芽
- there is speculation that they tend to spawn in batches between the times of on the hour and 15 minutes past the hour. I waited around until the hour, and two certainly spawned, but then no more. Culling other battle pets in the area seems to help their respawn.
Spotted Bell Frog
^
∞
Un'Goro
15
斑点铃蛙
- commonly found by the river banks throughout most of the zone.
Squirrel
^
Crystalsong Forest
22

22
松鼠
- (notes to be added) also found in hyjal as an addition, but it is uncommon to get one.

∞

13
臭虫
- fairly uncommon because the spawns are very spread out.
Stone Armadillo
^
∞
only at night
Desolace
7-8

^

^
∞

^
∞

^
∞
Feralas
11
瘦弱雪人
not collected yet
Summit Kid
^
∞
Kun-Lai Summit
23-24
高山小羊

Sumprush Rodent
^
∞
Krasarang Wilds
23-24
泥地掘坑鼠
not collected yet
Swamp Moth
^
∞
Swamp of Sorrows

^
∞

^
∞
Wetlands
6
袖珍沼泽兽
- rare, they spawn just north of where the greenwarden is, that little camp. Help them spawn by killing other battle pets in the zone.
Tiny Harvester
^
∞
Westfall
3
小小收割者
- commonly found in a couple of farm fields.
Tiny Twister
^
∞
Arathi Highlands
7
小旋风
- fairly rare; they are found at the circle of outer binding and you must kill other battle pets in the zone to help them spawn.
Toad
^
Nagrand
18
蟾蜍
not collected yet
Tol'vir Scarab
^
∞
Uldum
23
托维尔圣甲虫
- commonly found near ruins in the desert. All of the pets in this zone (except for the horned lizard) can appear as additions to any other fight in the zone.
Tolai Hare
^
∞
Kun-Lai Summit
23-24
多莱野兔
- commonly found on the brown portion of the map, and also as additions to any fight in the zone. As free-range spawns they can come as families with linked rarities. Though these adults are also often found by themselves.
Tolai Hare Pup
^
∞
Kun-Lai Summit
23-24
多莱兔仔
- commonly found on the brown portion of the map, and also as additions to any fight in the zone. As free-range spawns they come as families with linked rarities.

- commonly found north, east and southeast of the pillar (Temple of Earth) and as an addition with other shale hatchlings.
Tree Python
^
Un'Goro
15
树蟒
- commonly found as free-range and additions. A good area is the south eastern swampy bit where the raptors are.
Tundra Penguin
^
Dragonblight
22
苔原企鹅
- commonly found as additions, with one or two free-range spawns to be found on the icy delta in the far west of the zone.
Turkey
^
∞
Howling Fjord
21
火鸡
- a handful of spawns are found at Valgarde (alliance) and Westguard Keep (alliance), and they can also come as additions.
Turquoise Turtle
^
∞
Azshara
3-5
绿松乌龟
- commonly found on the beach.
Twilight Beetle
^
Mount Hyjal
22-23
暮光甲虫
- some few free-range spawn locations, the best way to get this beetle is as an addition to a fight, making it somewhat uncommon.
Twilight Fiendling
^
∞
Twilight Highlands
23
暮光小恶魔
- only spawn at the three purple starburst shapes on the map, but due to phasing issues you might not see any. Try using a character that has not completed any quests in this zone.
Twilight Iguana
^
∞
Thousand Needles
13
暮光鬣蜥
- commonly found, although only in the twilight cult camps.
Twilight Spider
^
Twilight Highlands
23
暮光蜘蛛
- commonly found as additions. They should also spawn free-range at any place on the map with purple ground, but there are some phasing issues. They are more common in
Deepholm
22-23 if you're after a rare.
Undercity Rat
^
∞
City: Undercity
1-2
幽暗城老鼠
- fairly common, however if you're after a rare one you'll probably have to kill quite a lot of other battle pets to keep them respawning.
Venomspitter Hatchling
^
∞
Stonetalon Mountains
5-6
喷毒幼蛛
- there is a green clearing south of Windshear Hold on the map, this is full of venomspitter hatchlings and they often have coral snakes as additions.
Wanderer's Festival Hatchling
^
∞
only during the Wanderer's Festival (sunday evening)
Krasarang Wilds
23-24
云游节幼龟
not collected yet
Warpstalker Hatchling
^
∞
Terokkar Forest
18
迁跃兽幼崽
- few and far between. You'll have to help their respawn along by killing other battle pets in the zone.
Water Snake
^
Twilight Highlands
23
水蛇
- uncommonly found as an addition, and if you're lucky there can be a free-range spawn in the cluster of four lakes you see in the top left of the map. If you're just after a rare, they are much more plentiful in Swamp of Sorrows 14.
Water Waveling
^
∞
Zul'Drak
22
小水花
- commonly found. These spawn in a concentrated area, in large numbers, and respawn quickly. They are a great way to level up pets, or to farm up rares of four other battle pets (everything else in the zone) - arctic hare, huge toad, snake, spider.
Wharf Rat
^
∞
Stranglethorn (Cape)
9
码头老鼠
not collected yet
Widow Spiderling
^

Wild Crimson Hatchling
^
∞
exalted with cloud serpents
Jade Forest
23-24
野生赤红雏龙

Wild Golden Hatchling
^
∞
exalted with cloud serpents
Jade Forest
23-24
野生金色雏龙
- commonly found at the Cloud Serpent daily quest hub. The catch is that you must be exalted with the Cloud Serpents in order to fight these battle pets.
Wild Jade Hatchling

- commonly found at the Cloud Serpent daily quest hub. The catch is that you must be exalted with the Cloud Serpents in order to fight these battle pets.
Wildhammer Gryphon Hatchling
^
∞
Twilight Highlands
23
蛮锤狮鹫幼崽
- fairly uncommon, although they should spawn free-range I have only seen them as additions so far, and rather infrequently. They tend to show up when you are fighting on grass, and I've had good luck with them a the cluster of four lakes in the northwest of the zone.
There are no pets start with X yet!
Yakrat
^
∞
Townlong Steppes
24
牦鼠
- commonly found as additions, with some free-range spawns too.

^
∞
Vale of Eternal Blossoms
23-24

^
∞
Twilight Highlands
23
黄腹土拨鼠
- commonly found.
Zooey Snake
^
∞
Kun-Lai Summit
23-24
佐伊灵蛇
- somewhat rare due to sparse spawns. Although you can find free-range spawns in the brown area of the map, I have come across them more often as additions. They are found as additions to any battle in the zone. There do seem to be a few free-range spawns around the edge of Inkgill Mere.

Pet Quality
With patch 5.1 we no longer have to guess at pet quality. If it is rare it will have a royal blue name, and as expected uncommon is bright green, common is white and poor is grey. This familiar colour-coding is seen in both the pet name and as the border around the pet portrait. Even though blizzard has now provided this functionality for us, I feel that I should still include the rarity macros in this guide to give you options. I find it quite useful to still have a print-out in my chat log for the names of the pets and their quality. Redundant, but useful.

So I posted a macro in a thread like 2 weeks ago and it kind of spread around the internet like wildfire (it's in the stickied guide in this forum and as part of Warcraftpet.com's guide). It was basically something that I did on the spot by taking snippets of code from a project I was working on and mashing them together. Today yet another person thanked me for this macro that unintentionally became popular, so I resolved to at least make it a little bit more convenient:
/run hooksecurefunc("PlaySoundKitID", function(Q) if Q==31584 then for i=1,C_PetBattles.GetNumPets(2) do SELECTED_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(C_PetBattles.GetName(2,i).." - ".._G) end end end)
The above code can be put in a macro and run at any time. Once run, any pet battle you enter will have the enemy pet's name and rarity outputted to your chat. You only have to run this once per gameplay session (every time you logout, it will need to be run again). This saves the hassle of the old macro forcing you to keybind a special key and hit it in every fight.
Only two small potential issues with the above code:
1. Running it more than once will cause the output to happen more than once in every fight. If you press this five times, you will spam yourself pretty hard when you enter pet battles. This can be fixed simply by typing /reload (which will give you a clean slate).
2. If you are running an addon that changes Pet Battle Music, this macro may not be compatible (hard to say without looking at each specific addon). This is a much smaller issue though because if you're running an addon for Pet Battle Music, you probably aren't opposed to running an addon like Pet Battle Quality Glow instead of this macro anyway.

Use: Identify the rarity of wild pets at the start of a fight with one click! No catching needed!
Now, I found this online after google searching for something like it for convenience, and for simplicity's sake decided to share it. If you love catching/finding rare quality wild pets, but hate having to catch loads of them to find out the quality (especially those FRACKING TRANQUILITY SPAMMING GAZELLE JERKS) then this macro is for you!
Step one:
Make a macro and paste this script into it:
/run for i=1,C_PetBattles.GetNumPets(2) do
SELECTED_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(C_PetBattles.GetName(2,i).." -
".._G) end
Step two:
Bind this macro to a hotkey besides 1-6 (I personally like binding it to the numpad-enter key)
Step three:
At the start of a wild battle, press the hotkey you keybind it to.
The pet rarity for each wild pet you are battling should pop up in the chat panel! (Note: you should may need certain chats enabled for it to show). Sit back and enjoy not having to cage 50 million pets to find a rare one!
Feel free to add more macros to this thread, I'll be adding a picture guide when I get home from work ^^.

In the first macro, replace the " by the proper caracter (a quotation mark).
/run hooksecurefunc("PlaySoundKitID", function(Q) if Q==31584 then for i=1,C_PetBattles.GetNumPets(2) do SELECTED_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(C_PetBattles.GetName(2,i).." - ".._G) end end end)
Beside that, it looks like a neat guide!

This is a wonderful guide! Thank you so much for putting it together; it's been a great help in making my pet collecting more efficient.
I found a pet you missed, though. It is the grey moth, a level 1-2 pet that can only be found in Azuremyst Isle. It's fairly common there.

It would be great with a
printable
list, like this, where one could cross off the pets one had captured!
I know
that I just could use the add-ons... but it would be cool to have
"Shoppinglist"
so I would know which areas/regions I still need to go to.. And make a
gameplan!

I can not praise you and this guide loud enough - amazing work - thank you very VERY much - only started pet battles 2 days ago and already have one of each family up to 17 just from knowing where to go to get the right level opponents.
On a side note I notice you don’t have anything listed on Tol Barad - I just spotted a Wharf Rat (lvl 24) while I was there stealing fish - thought you might like to add that.

I......LOVE....YOU! I have been searching for two hours trying to find something complete by zone I could print to help me track my pets (I have add ons but wanted more). I played off and on with the battle pets, but didnt focus on really grinding to get the rares until lately. So now I have greens, and grays i need to go back to get and upgrade to rares. This is awesome!

Wharf Rat also appears on Tol Barad Peninsula, lvl 22-24, found a rare while doing dailies for commendations.

This listing, and formatting, is by far better than the 3 guides above it for pet battles. I am surprised it has so few views.

The
猎豹幼崽
is also found in the Southern Barrens. I captured a level 10 uncommon variant there. It was close to the Horde outpost Hunter's Hill - I was on my Horde toon and it is very helpful to know that there is a stable master
穆纳达
there as well, to heal up pets if you are battling with lower level pets :).
So, as a FYI, the pet is not unique to Northern Barrens and one can capture a pet level higher than 3.

I think I understand that this macro will list the rarity of the pets you are battling in chat. But, when I mouse of the enemy pets during the battle the rares appear in blue? Is the mouse over not always correct?
I am confused, please help.

A Draenor update to this very well laid out guide would be awesome.
I still send friends here for wild Pet battle info as your layout is so easy to navigate without feeling like slogging through mud :)

Just a little nitpicky, but in the Kun-Lai section, it says "Apline Foxling Kit"... Alpine is spelled wrong.
