Maximizing Garrison Resource Missions With 3-4 Scavengers

I originally decided to minimize the number of scavengers I have after reading these two follower optimization guides:

That reddit thread is the source of the first 4-scavenger team in this guide. However, it seemed too restrictive to have a team of scavengers which required a Brewmaster Monk, especially since there were
so few
(8 in patch 6.1, all from the inn/tavern). As an exercise for myself I decided to see if I could find other combinations of counters which could produce a 4-follower group of scavengers capable of countering every resource mission at 100%, and quickly discovered that the answer was a resounding "yes".
With new followers and traits being added every patch, it can be a challenge to maintain a collection of active followers which meets your needs. Perhaps you want more room for additional followers with the 6.1 trait

. Perhaps you simply don't want to depend on a large number of scavengers. Whatever the case may be, if you have more than 4 active scavengers then you can reduce that number to 4 (or even 3) with the help of this guide.
Logic Behind Using 4 Followers
Of the 9 possible threats, only 8 are used on missions where a
拾荒者
trait is useful, as
there are no Deadly Minions threats on missions rewarding Garrison Resources
, but each of the other threats is used on at least one mission. All of the
1-follower missions for Garrison Resources
have only one threat, therefore if you have each threat countered by a follower with the
拾荒者
trait then you can counter each of these missions for maximum resources. Of the
2-follower and 3-follower missions for Garrison Resources
, two of them have only one threat per follower (

), while the remaining four have one more threat than the number of followers required:

Making Your Team
I've come up with 8 scavenger team compositions which allow for maximum resource collection, detailed below with all the necessary links to find followers in case things change in future patches. I stopped looking after I identified the 8th team, but there may be a few more.
The Teams
While I made my best effort to ensure that the list of Potential Follower Specializations is correct, if there is any difference between that list and the list at the other end of the Potential Followers link, you should consider the link to be more accurate.
If you can get a scavenger to fill each slot of any team here, you no longer require any further scavengers in your roster for the purpose of gathering resources.

From here we can see that certain combinations are more common than others, such as
Powerful Spell + Magic Debuff
(6/8 teams),
Group Damage + Minion Swarms
(5/8 teams) and
Timed Battle + Danger Zones
(4/8 teams). These combinations are more useful to have than the rest, simply because they can be used in more teams.

As far as which specializations you should choose, it ultimately comes down to what you still need.
If you're looking to fill that
Powerful Spell + Magic Debuff
slot you have 6 specs to choose from but I ended up with a
Mistweaver Monk
3 times and
Holy Paladin
1 time (
Restoration Shaman
work just as well, and has more useful combinations of counters) because with only 4 rerollable counters they have a higher chance of rerolling to the desired counters than the other specs. The same logic can be applied to other slots: look at the specs for that slot and prefer the ones with fewer abilities which can be acquired by reroll.
If you haven't narrowed down to a particular set of counters that you still need for a specific team, when recruiting at the inn it's probably best to take the spec is used more (such as an Enhancement Shaman at 11 slots) rather than the one which is used the least (Destruction Warlock has only 1 viable slot, which can also be filled by an Enhancement Shaman). However, if you have a few scavengers already then you should include those in your decision on which follower to recruit. I always place a slightly higher value on recruits which have one of the counters I'm looking and can potentially level into a desirable combination than I would for than another recruit which would have to reroll abilities in order to be useful, so when comparing recruits I look at the total number of slots they could fill with rerolling (see table above) and the number of slots they could potentially fill without rerolling.
This also applies when selecting followers to use

Picking And Rerolling Your Followers
The tables here give you an idea what to look for in your ideal

, but with so many options it helps to know where to start. Perhaps you already have a full scavenger team assemled like my warlock did, and you only need to reactivate a follower or two to finish it off. More likely is that you still need changes to your roster in order to build a team. Here is the procedure I followed to complete teams on 3-4 more of my alts.
After every step in this list, check to see which team you are closest to completing, and update your teams. Once I have 2-3 perfect followers for at least one team and enough other followers to fill the remaining slot(s) perfectly after a successful ability or trait reroll, I focus my efforts on that team (or teams, as happened once) and start using ability and trait rerolls. Having a level 2+
Inn/Tavern
for recruitment is highly recommended for building a perfect team of scavengers, since otherwise you will depend more on reroll items.
Take a look at your scavengers, and identify which have a useful combination of threat counters and which do not
Make a list of teams (from the teams above), populated with the followers which fit perfectly into each team
Take the scavengers who don't have useful counters (this automatically includes those who have a

counter), identify the useful counters they can get, and add them to the corresponding teams with an indication that they could reroll abilities into those slots
Identify which of your non-scavenger followers has a useful combination of threat counters, and add these to the corresponding teams with an indication that they could reroll traits into the spot
If you have spare

s, use them on followers which have neither the Scavenger trait nor useful counters, but which are of a specialization listed in one of the team slots you want to fill
If you have an inn/tavern, recruit for the

trait, and pick the follower which has the best chance of filling an empty slot in one or more of your teams (see more in the Useful Follower Specializations section)

Using 3 Scavengers
It is possible to max out on all the resource missions with only 3 scavengers if you have

, thanks to their unique traits. Garona's

acts as a full counter to any threat and Oronok's

combined are insufficient to solo all the 1-follower missions, but with 6 abilities and some traits it can be done. Ariok has

which allows soloing of the 1-follower missions, but doesn't help with group missions.
Unlike the 4 scavenger teams discussed above, teams with only 3 scavengers need to prove that they can handle all 6 of the
2-follower and 3-follower missions for Garrison Resources
, since not all threats will be specifically handled. In addition, they must have a way to handle the
1-follower missions for Garrison Resources
for the same reason.
Scavenging with Garona
Naturally Garona will have two mandatory traits:

is permanent (and allows soloing the 1-follower missions), and
拾荒者
is required for scavenging. Traits such as

(unless she has

) are good options for a third trait for Garona for the team missions. For the other followers in team missions, those traits are still useful, and a racial preference for Garona (

as horde, or

as alliance) are solid alternatives if you happen to get them. There are more options, but it takes more luck to get the right abilities and traits to max out with 3 followers than it does to max out with 4.
Assuming you can get appropriate abilities and traits on Garona, it becomes much simpler to find followers to fill the remaining two slots. The example below demonstrates the concept of using 3 followers to get maximum

Great guide! I'm trying to maximize my Follower efficiency for Gold, Resources gathering (and more if possible) without duplicating follower uselessly but it's tricky.
