7.2 Priest Class Hall Upgrades and Champion Guide by DravenDarkcrest
This guide contains what I found to be the best route to take regarding class hall upgrades and champions for priests in 7.2. Enjoy!
Class Hall Upgrades
Class Hall Upgrades (Level 100-109)
Rank 1
-
Divine Fate
Rank 2
-
Altars of Blessing
Rank 3
-
Armaments of Light
Rank 4
-
Shadow Heresy
Rank 5
-
Blessed Seals
Rank 6
-
Armed by Faith
Rank 7
-
Roster of Champions
Rank 8
-
Legionfall United
Reasoning
Rank 1
While leveling, I prefer
Divine Fate
over
Daily Prayers
to improve on your gear while questing. This is the only time where this class hall upgrade is useful so I think it is best to take advantage of it. Once you start obtaining higher level dungeon and raid gear, you may opt to switch over as this upgrade's usefulness tends to diminish.
Rank 2
I choose
Altars of Blessing
, again, to aid you while you are questing in the Broken Isles.
Pain Suppression
does extend the useful life of your troops; however, at the relatively low cost of order resources and short timer for the order to complete, I believe that the Altars of Blessing upgrade is the better choice while leveling up.
Rank 3
Armaments of Light
here is pretty much guaranteed. While you are leveling yourself, you will also need to focus on leveling up your Class Hall champions. The ability to put in orders for equipment upgrades for your champions is crucial and you should always have work orders in progress. It is going to take a while to level the champions up. Only after all your champions are upgraded to iLvl 900 with all the best equipment equipped should you consider switching over to
Communal Living
for the additional troop.
Rank 4
Shadow Heresy
is my pick here. I prefer the use of Dark Zealots over the Acolyte/Paragons. I further maximize the efficiency using Dark Zealots with the Class Hall champions I choose to make available (see Class Hall Champions Section below for explanation).
Rank 5
Blessed Seals
is the choice to go with here. You will want to get these for cheap (25 order resources once per week) and this upgrade allows you to do so. You may purchase your second and third seals for the week for 1,000g and 1,000 order resources. The option for having your combat ally provide you with more order resources when completing world quests is not that great since you can easily rack up a boat-load of order resources through world quest rewards, rare monster kills, and treasure chests (which are scattered all over the broken isles and are easy to come by).
Rank 6
Armed by Faith
- No choice here - Seriously, it's your only option so pick it. Allows for 2nd Legendary to be equipped. :)
Rank 7
Roster of Champions
is the pick here. I like having an additional champion available for missions or for use as a Combat Ally. I do not use hooded priests. As I mentioned before, I prefer the use of Dark Zealots. The additional available champion allows me to sometimes sneak in an additional mission (having 3, maybe 4, going simultaneously). More missions = More Rewards + More Experience for Champions.
Rank 8
Legionfall United
- Again, no choice. Doubles up on your Artifact Power from items you receive as rewards from your WQs and Class Hall missions.
Class Hall Upgrades (Level 110)
So now you've reached Level 110 and it's time to make some changes.
Rank 1
-
Daily Prayers
Rank 2
-
Pain Suppression
Rank 3
-
Armaments of Light
(if champions still need equipment) or
Communal Living
(if champions equipment is maxed out)
Rank 4
-
Shadow Heresy
Rank 5
-
Blessed Seals
Rank 6
-
Armed by Faith
Rank 7
-
Roster of Champions
Rank 8
-
Legionfall United
Reasoning
Rank 1
Once you've completed the majority of the quest lines in the Broken Isles and you start to get higher level dungeon/raid gear,
Divine Fate
starts to lose its usefulness as it only applies to non-repeatable quests. I opt to switch to
Daily Prayers
here to increase mission success on my first Class Hall mission each day. Simple enough.
Rank 2
Ok, I'm going to be honest. I do not really like either of these options we have. I rarely every go into the wells for the "bonus" from
Altars of Blessing
. At higher levels, I don't need them while I'm questing in the Broken Isles (I'm a big boy now!).
Pain Suppression
grants a chance for a troop to not take vitality damage so I give it a slight edge only in the sense that it will buy me some time before I have to put in an order for another Dark Zealot. So
Pain Suppression
wins, barely, just by sucking less than the other option.
Rank 3
As I explained up there in the short version, you want to have
Armaments of Light
to keep pumping out equipment and upgrades for your champions until they are capped on both iLvl and Equipment. Once the're decked out, swap over to
Communal Living
for the additional troop.
Rank 4
Shadow Heresy
, because Dark Zealots... (Join the Dark Side)
Rank 5
Blessed Seals
is the pick here still. You are level 110 and are most likely raiding. Cheap seals for more re-rolls on gear you might need.
Rank 6
Armed by Faith
- No choice here. Allows for 2nd Legendary to be equipped
Rank 7
Roster of Champions
for the additional available champion. Again, I do not use hooded priests and prefer the extra champion to occasionally allow me to get an extra mission in (3-4 simultaneously). More missions = More Rewards + More experience for champions.
Rank 8
Legionfall United
- No choice - Just stick back and enjoy the double Artifact Power from WQs and Class Hall missions.
Class Hall Champions
Alright. So we got the Class Hall Upgrades settled. Onward now, to what I believe is the optimal Class Hall champion pool to make available.
Active
Calia Menethil
Mariella Ward
High Priestess Ishanah
Sol
Natalie Seline
Zabra Hexx
Aelthalyste
You should have 7 active if you followed my guide above and went with
Roster of Champions
as your Rank 7 Upgrade
Inactive
Alonsus Faol
Yalia Sagewhisper
Explanation
If you are still reading, you weren't just here for the "TL;DR" version above and you want a fancy explanation with charts and stuff. I aim to please, so here goes...
In determining which Class Hall champions to keep active to send out on missions, I wanted to maximize the chance for mission success while keeping things balanced in terms of the spec/counters/abilities that each champion has to offer. I divided each champion's traits/abilities into four sections: Counters, Success Bonuses, Troop Bonuses, and Increases in Troop Useful Life.
I then prioritized these four sections as follows:
Counters - (Most Important)
Success Bonuses
Troop Bonuses
Increases to Troop Useful Life - (IDGAF)
Counters are clearly important. With each quest giving between 2-3 specific counters. I wanted to have a balanced mix of all available counters as my main priority.
Success Bonuses came second as they give a decent boost to success rate based on the type of mission (spell/hazard) or duration.
Troop Bonuses are third because I try not to rely too heavily on the troops. But seeing as they do have utility and provide an increase to success when paired with the right champion, it is still good.
Lastly, we have the increases to the useful life of troops. A "50% chance to survive a mission with 1 vitality" or an "item to restore 1 vitality" are borderline useless as troops are easily replaceable.
Onward to the charts!
So looking at the chart we can see clearly what each champion brings to the table (pun intended). With our priority of "Counters" in mind, knowing that each champion only provides 1 Counter, we will have a total of 7 counters available to us. In keeping things balanced, we will have a minimum of 2 counters for each type with one getting an additional 3rd. In my experience with my daily available missions, I often see Holy Nova as a counter (sometimes even two Holy Nova counters on the same mission), so I decided to make the Holy Nova the choice for the extra counter. This means 3 Holy Nova, 2 Silence, and 2 Leap of Faith for our counters.
Our second priority was "Success Bonuses". Seeing that only 4 champions gave us success bonuses, I wanted to make sure I had at least one of each type (if not all of them) as active.
Our third priority was "Troop Bonuses". With our Class Hall upgrade improving our basic Zealots to Dark Zealots, my main priority would be to pick a champion whose trait synergizes with them. Dark Zealots increase success chance when paired with a Shadow Spec champion. Furthermore, Natalie Seline's Troop Bonus increases the success chance on missions when paired with Dark Zealots. It's a match made in... nevermind. So between the 3 champions offering troop bonuses, I wanted Natalie Seline to be available to send out with the troops. Sol would be second if possible, to use with the Group of Acolytes.
Regarding Alonsus Faol (Why don't I have him active?)
Alonsus Faol's troop bonus relies on the troops vitality at the time the mission is started. This can vary and so the success chance can fluctuate. I prefer stable/reliable success chance bonus with troops.
Often times I would have quests to turn into Alonsus Faol, however, he would be out on a mission and not available in my Class Hall so I would have to wait until the mission was done before I could turn it in (SUPER ANNOYING!)
The traits/abilities of the other champions I believe are more useful.
In keeping things balanced in regards to champions' specializations, I prefer to have an additional shadow spec champion for missions since I will be focusing on mainly sending Natalie Seline out with troops.
The fourth and last priority was the increases in the troops' useful life which I did not really care for. Between the two options, I determined that the item to restore 1 vitality is better since it gives you the chance to decide which troop's vitality to increase. You can manage your troops better this way rather than relying on chance to save them when they have only 1 vitality and are sent out on a mission. I didn't pay too much attention to this though since troops are easily replaceable.
Summary
So keeping all that I just mentioned in mind, I looked to find the combination of 7 champions that would give me the best mix and we end up with the following:
Discipline
Calia Menethil
Mariella Ward
Holy
High Priestess Ishanah
Sol
Shadow
Natalie Seline
Zabra Hexx
Aelthalyste
Specialization
2 Discipline, 2 Holy, 3 Shadow
Counters
3 Holy Nova, 2 Silence, 2 Leap of Faith
Success Bonuses
2 Spell Bonus, 1 Hazard Bonus, 1 Duration Bonus
Troop Bonus
Dark Zealots, Acolytes
Troop Useful Life
Item to Restore 1 Vitality
Not a bad combination, ey?
Combat Allies
Now I know you all are saying "But Draven, what about our Combat Allies?! Who do we take with us on our WQ runs?!"
I personally, do not use them. I stopped using them for WQs as the bonus gold and class hall resources I could care less for. At a certain point, you end up having an abundance of order resources from all the treasure chests, rare monsters, and WQs you complete by yourself. The gold you get I don't think is worth it. I believe the champions provide more utility running missions within your Class Hall.
NOTE: I
DO
, however, recommend taking combat allies when you need to level them up
. Each WQ gives your Combat Ally 1000 xp and is an incredibly fast way to get them to "Titled Quality" to unlock their 3 equipment slots. After that point, you may unassign them.
I can still hear you saying "BUT NO! I INSIST! I MUST HAVE A COMBAT ALLY!"
My answer: "OK! OK! Sol or Aelthalyste!"
If you take Sol, you sacrifice a Holy Nova from your counters and the Acolyte troop success bonus. Which leaves you with 2 Disc, 1 Holy, 3 Shadow Specialization champions. With counters, you now have 2 of each (Holy Nova, Silence, and Leap of Faith).
If you take Aelthalyste, you also lose a Holy Nova counter and a spell success bonus. You are left with 2 Disc, 2 Holy, 2 Shadow specialization champions. With counters, you again have 2 of each. This is slightly more balanced in terms of the specs you will have available for your missions, but you are sacrificing the spell success bonus. Also, it is VERY important to note - Aelthalyste has
THE MOST ANNOYING VOICE
out of all the combat allies and she likes to talk A LOT. Leveling her up to "Titled Quality" was torture. She needs a mute button.
Should you decide to take a combat ally, the good news is that unassigning combat allies is a lot easier than "activating/deactivating". There isn't a cooldown. If you find yourself in need of a combat ally for a mission, you can always quickly unassign them or swap them out for a small order resource cost.
Well, that's about it for this guide for now. I am planning on updating this guide in the future with details on equipment upgrades for each champion. No timeline on that yet though.

Where is the npc that allows you to purchase the class hall upgrades?

Good guide.
Liked to read the same reasons i weighed up the followers against each other, though i actually like Alonsous. He is a beast with a shadow artifact and Dark Zealots. Or even better, let there be two teams of Dark Zealots.
But it really comes down to what you like more.
