This page is prone to frequent updates and changes. Mostly alongside new content such as but not limited to: expansions, patches, battle pets, and mounts releases. Due the in-game method of collecting creature data, missing or overlooking certain mobs/NPCs may/will occur. If you find something which has been neglected to be covered, please comment below with the name of the NPC and the WoWhead page for it if available. Thank you.
Introduction
Greetings! Welcome to
Toxicologist's Guide: Creatures of Warcraft!
This guide has been a several year project in the making, to provide roleplayers with a quick and lore-accurate, or as close to lore-accurate guide of creature based
poisons, venoms, diseases and acids.
. These descriptions will be classified as following: Lore Canon
(Strictly Blizzard's writing)
or Mixed Canon
(Interpretation based off of abilities/writing)
.
Before we jump in, let's clarify some differences between poison, venom, acid, and disease...
Venom:
Creatures which are classified as,
"venomous"
refer to those which must inject their toxin into a victim directly, typically in the manner of a bite or sting. In some cases the bite/sting may kill you before the venom does!
Poison:
When it comes to the animal kingdom, the word,
"poisonous"
, often refers to animals which secrete topical or ingestive toxins
(meaning when the animal is touched or eaten).
One small touch or taste could mean the end of you!
Acid:
When creatures produce acid, they are often projectiles;
liquid projectiles, solid projectiles, tethered projectiles
. Some creatures can form acid, and release in the form of spit, slime, foam, vomit, and even webbing.
Disease:
Referring to creatures which carry illness, or infection. More times than not diseases carried creatures are usually slow acting and extremely dangerous if not caught early.
Eastern Kingdoms
Forest Spiderling
DANGEROUS
(Mixed Canon)
Family:
Arachnid
Location:
Stranglethorn Vale
Quality:
Common
Description:
These small spiders are found in various locations around the world. Alas, their native habitat is that of Stranglethorn Vale. These spiders come in a variety of colors such as light green, tan, grey and beige. They're one of the rare breed of aggressive spiders, which can become hostile when provoked, or even when unprovoked. They're known for their impressive webs, which are usually large and intricate in design. Most times an individual can tell when they've come into their territory by these webs alone.
Effect:
A bite from this spider is nasty, while often times non-lethal, bites from the Forest Spider are prone to infection and festering. When left alone, the bite will cause flesh to begin to decay over the course of a day or two. Due to the slow reaction time of this venom, it's usually not extremely detrimental, but certainly a burden someone would not wish.
Cure/s:
Venom Extraction. Dispel.
Survival:
High
Tree Python

Bamboo Python
LETHAL
(Mixed Canon)
Family:
Boidae
Location:
Jade Forest
Quality:
Uncommon
Description:
The Bamboo Python is found in the Jade Forest. They’re an extremely large breed of Python that can reach up to the length of three fully grown Zandalari males. These Pythons are extremely hostile, and considered very dangerous. It is suggested to avoid them at all costs. However, if you do get bit, and the bite alone doesn’t kill you, you’ll more than likely die an extremely slow and painful death.
Effect:
The venom of the Bamboo Python carries a deadly disease known as
Swamp Fever
. It is almost certain that if you’re infected with its venom, that the disease will follow. It will begin with flu like symptoms such as weakness, loss of appetite, and continue until paralysis sets in. If left untreated for more than one or two weeks, the victim will become anemic, and soon die an agonizing death. What makes this disease so frightening is that it is airborne, highly contagious, and extremely easy to transfer to another.
Cure/s:
There is no known medical cure. The only chance of survival is cleansing from a priest, however even that is a very low guarantee due to how it taints the immune system.
Survival:
Low
Coral Adder
LETHAL
(Lore Canon)
Family:
Viperidae
Location:
Jade Forest
Quality:
Common
Description:
The Coral Adder holds the reputation for having one of the worst bites in Pandaria. A single bite is known for killing a full grown kudos! The Coral Adder is found in several areas of the Jade Forest. They often come in shades of blue, making them quite visible against the forest’s grounds. It is suggested you avoid them at all costs.
Effect:
Those who’ve been bitten previously have not lived to tell the tale, or so we can assume. It is uncertain the exact reaction this venom has with the blood stream, but we can confirm it is devastating to any living being inflicted with this toxin venom. Death is often times the only outcome from being bitten by this adder. Be wary.
Cure/s:
Venom Extraction.
(Venomancer Required)
Survival:
(Assumed)
None
Dread Scarab
DANGEROUS
(Mixed Canon)
Family
: Scarabaeidae
Location:
Dread Wastes
Quality:
Uncommon
Description:
These scarabs are located in the southern region of the Dread Wastes. These darker colored often shades of coral scarabs often roam together, but are not hostile in their territories. They typically will not attack unless provoked, but if provoked they’re known for attacking in small groups.
Effect:
These scarabs are known for spitting a vicious acid, often times they go directly for the eyes of any beast, attempting to blind first, then attack second. This acid does not wait too long, a mere few seconds before it will effectively burn, and melt through eyeballs. If the acid misses and falls upon flesh, it is less detrimental, but it’ll still burn fairly deeply, if not right through.
Cure/s:
Unknown.
Survival:
High
Emerald Fenfly
HELPFUL
(Headcanon)
Family:
Hymenoptera
Location:
Jade Forest
Quality:
Common
Description:
This emerald insect is located in the southern region of The Jade Forest, often times looming around pools of swamp water. These green wasps are non-hostile, and non-territorial. Due to their good temperaments, they’re recommended often to novice hunters as early companions.
Effect:
The sting from the Emerald Fenfly is often a painful one due to the size of their stingers. Like it’s nearby cousins, being punctured from a stinger in the wrong place could cause a fatal outcome. It’s stinger releases Emerald Poison which is known to be harvested as a common ingredient sold in illegal substances. Emerald Poison creates a very potent ‘high’ when it settles in the bloodstream. It’s known to create hallucinations, and euphoric sensations in the body.
Cure/s:
Hozen urine is known to combat the effects of Emerald Fenfly poison. Though most just allow it to fade over time.
Survival:
High
Feverbite Hatchling
DANGEROUS
(Mixed Canon)
Family:
Arachnid
Location:
Krasarang Wilds
Quality:
Common
Description:
This particular spider is often found in groups with it's parent/s and siblings. They often travel together, and attack as a unit. These spiders are known for being territorial, but typically will not attack unless there is an immediate threat.
Effect:
The bite from the Feverbite Hatchling is a dangerous one. It's venom is known for causing fever-like symptoms over the short span of approximately an hour. The recipient of this bite would become visibly flushed, nauseous, and show most symptoms of an extreme fever. While this isn't usually lethal, it can be if enough venom enters the blood stream and it's not treated in a timely manner.
Cure/s:
A popular known cure is dancing! If someone dances prior to the venom settling in, they can sweat out the toxins, and safe themselves potentially life threatening repercussions.
Survival:
High
Glittering Amberfly
HELPFUL
(Mixed Canon)
Family:
Hymenoptera
Location:
Jade Forest
Quality:
Uncommon
Description:
This colorful wasp can be found south in The Jade Forest. Cousin of both the Tigerfly and Jadeglow Wasp, this wasp too carries similar qualities. The only difference being the Glittering Amberfly is more visually appealing than its cousins. This extremely bright golden yellow wasp appears to be glittering! This effect is created mostly during the spring and fall seasons. The Glittering Amberfly is known to collect pollen, and during its daily movements will slowly shake off small flakes of pollen creating a glitter effect while pollinating the nearby plants.
Effect: Unlike the Tigerfly and Jadeglow Was, the Glittering Amberfly does not carry a particularly harmful venom. In fact getting stung by one will cause a rather pleasant reaction, if you don’t mind the initial sting that is. This effect is directly linked to the pollen, a sting from the Glittering Amberfly is known to give boosts of energy and endorphins, often times improving speed, and stamina.
Cure/s:
Unknown.

Effect:
While the Grove Viper isn’t the most venomous of snakes, it’s venom can kill smaller animals and agriculture. In large doses it has the potential to kill larger animals. It’s venom is slow acting, and painful, but not crippling, allowing larger animals a decent chance of survival.
Cure/s:
Venom Extraction. Heavy Sweating. Anti-Venom.
Survival:

They’re known to attack targets several times their size, making them quite threatening to the average person.
Effect:
Upon being affected with Gulp Frog poison, you’d feel an immediate burning. Flesh by begin to quickly boil. The slimey poison is similar to a thick acid which coats flesh. It will begin digesting/dissolving near instantly. Fortunately, depending where the victim is affected they may have a chance of survival, but anti-poison would have to be applied near instantly.

(Headcanon)
Family:
Hymenoptera
Location:
Jade Forest
Quality:

Description:
This yellowish glowing wasp can be found in the east region of the Jade Forest. These are non-hostile wasps, that oftentimes mind their own business. They do not often bother those who enter their territory, and when attacked they’re more likely to flee than defend, however should one attack back one would be greeted with a slightly toxic sting.
Effect:
Similar to it’s cousin the Tigerfly, the Jadeglow Wasp is non-lethal, usually. It’s sting is quick, and usually wears off quicker than the sting of the Tigerfly. It’s rumored that venom from the Jadeglow Wasp is used on monks during training to test their focus. While the poison won’t kill you, it’ll initially be painful, before fading into a large itchy rash in the area which it stung. This rash often fades away after approximately a day.

(Mixed Canon)
Family:
Hymenoptera
Location:

Orchard Wasps are a hostile breed of wasp found near The Arboretum in the Jade Forest. These wasps are territorial, and will attack in swarms. They’re often killed for their stingers which are sought out to be quills due to their sharpness. Venom is only one half, being stung by one due to their stinger could be fatal.
Effect:
Venom from Orchard Wasps cause a euphoric feeling in the host. Often times this is to mask the extreme pain, and lethal danger of the dagger-like stinger. Orchard Wasp venom can be missed unless treated during the euphoric state. Once the euphoric phase is passed, this venom goes unnoticed, and will often lead to flu like symptoms, weakening the body and immune system for up to a week.
Cure/s:
Assuming the wound from the stinger has been mended. It’s important to try to remove the venom during its euphoric phase, during this phase most common cures such as extreme sweating, or common anti-venoms can be used. Once the euphoric phase passes it is highly suggested to consume large amounts of honeykeeper honey to prevent severe loss in nutrition, and infection from the lowered immune system.

This acid isn’t strong compared to others, but it certainly isn’t weak. Author's Notes
Good Greetings!
Thank you for taking my time to read my guide. I hope it serves as a good resource for those wishing to dip their feet into the more venomous/poisonous side of roleplay. This is my first guide, so while it's not perfect, a lot of passion and time went into it. All of the data was collected via in-game, WoWhead, and when needed with my own imagination. I've always enjoyed the fantasy of being the poison master assassin, which is often times what I roleplay out
(since I almost always main assassination rogue)
. I've found many guides on herbs, alchemy, and various toxic mixtures. Alas, it wasn't until I found interest in roleplaying out a venomancer, that I noticed there was very little information on the venomous creatures in World of Warcraft. I've sought out on this journey, and now bring my findings to you all! What a beautiful game, with such detailed creatures we have. Embrace your inner toxicologist, assassin or alchemist with this guide. If I missed a creature, or you have suggestions, comment below!
