Welcome to Wowhead's Balance Druid guide for Arena PvP (Player vs Player), up to date for 9.2! This section of the guide outlines your rotation/priority system for dealing damage, as well as a key breakdown of all of the cooldowns available to Balance Druids, as well as some guidelines for Bursting and Crowd Control, and some of the common mistakes most new players make, and how to avoid them.

Balance Druid Rotation/Priority
Your core damage rotation is extremely simple:
Maintain
阳炎术
and
月火术
on all targets.
If Necrolord maintain
激变蜂群
on your kill target when the debuff is not present.
Build to 90+ Astral Power with
愤怒
.
Activate the appropriate
日月之蚀
by casting the required filler spell:

Spend your Astral Power with

procs when moving, if the buff is about to expire, or if you are trying to push into Eclipse.

In Shadowlands Balance Druid has a new Eclipse system that comes in form of two unique 'phases' of gameplay, during which your filler abilities are empowered, your
星涌术
empowers your respective Eclipse bonuses, and your respective Nature and Arcane spells gain more damage based on Mastery. This includes
星涌术
, and Astral damage is a combination of both Nature and Arcane spell damage.

modifies our rotation slightly:
Solar Eclipse:

to take advantage of the increased cast speed buff to build Astral Power rapidly.

to spend your Astral Powerwhen you're at 90+. This is a good opportunity to try and secure a kill outside of your Root/Beam combo.
Refreshing your

is less of a priority than trying to build Astral Power in this phase, refresh your DoTs if you need to move or you're close to maximum Astral Power.
Lunar Eclipse:
Look for opportunities to refresh your
阳炎术
and
月火术
. Refreshing early here is perfectly fine.
Cast
星火术
if you have an instant-cast from
枭兽狂怒
and you're not going to break crowd-control on surrounding targets.
Spam cast
愤怒
to build Astral Power.
Spend your Astral Power with

.
The main reason why we're looking to refresh and
月火术
during Lunar Eclipse and spam cast
愤怒
is that the cast time of Lunar Strike is very long, and when faced with push-back from taking damage, these casts can be pushed into the 2.5s territory. It is more effective to refresh your DoTs and spam Wraths where possible to gain Astral Power than slowly cast
星火术
for non-significant damage. With this being said, if you do get
枭兽狂怒
procs, be sure to use them if you're positive you won't break any CC with the cleave of
星火术
.
While our
阳炎术
and
月火术
do decent damage over time, our highest priority especially during the Solar Eclipse phase is building Astral Power to dump into
星涌术
. We do this to keep the benefit of
枭兽光环
active, while also putting out pressure, priming a target for a kill when the opportunity arises.
Balance Druid Important Cooldowns
Offensive Cooldowns

: CA/Incarn are our major damage cooldowns, activating both Eclipses at the same and giving us a small Haste buff, and Critical Strike when talented into Incarnation. These spells effectively double the benefit that Mastery has on our

, potentially increasing its damage by upwards of 50% depending on your Mastery stat. CA/Incarn does not necessarily need to be pressed on cooldown, nor at the start of the match. What is important is that you focus on getting value from it, by controlling the enemy healer and your kill target, ensuring the extra damage you do sticks and isn't simply healed through.

: Convoke is the Night Fae Covenant's signature ability, a 4 second channel that launches a combination of spells at your enemies. This spell can be extremely deadly and is capable of killing entire teams if you're able to successfully complete the cast. This ability will be covered more in the 'Covenant' section of the guide.

: Empower Bond is the Kyrian Covenant's signature ability. As Kyrian you will empowering yourself, and will not be bonding with any of your team. This will give you a 15% damage increase once per minute, which is a sizeable buff to your damage output and burst setup.

: Fury of Elune is a 1 minute damage cooldown that can hit for upwards of 10k damage over its duration, while also generating 40 Astral Power over its duration. Fury of Elune is a considerable enabler for our burst damage, as it provides a solid base of damage as well as enough Astral Power for an additional

: Adaptive Swarm is a short-cooldown that enhances the power of your damage-over-time effects on the target, and upon expiration, will alternate between allies and enemies. This is not an 'win' button like some of our other offensive cooldowns are, but maximizing your uptime on

improves the pressure you put out, and effective usage throughout a match will make a big difference.
Defensive Cooldowns

: Barkskin is our basic defensive cooldown. This isn't nearly as strong as some other classes' defensive cooldowns, however a 20% damage reduction on a 1 minute cooldown is nothing to turn your nose up at.

is useable while in crowd-control, so if you're caught out of

, this can be a life-saver. Because of the short cooldown you shouldn't feel too bad about throwing this cooldown whenever it's required, it'll likely be up again for when you need it again.

will typically be enough defensively to keep you alive while your healer sits some CC. Barkskin can also be buffed through the use of the legendary effect

: Bear Form is a defensive cooldown without the cooldown portion. Bear Form is your best friend, and you will be spending a lot of time in Bear Form. Passively when you're playing with

and have access to the powerful

. Do not feel bad about going Bear Form - if you're just trying to survive until your next go, running around in Bear Form avoiding damage and taking increased healing isn't the worst thing in the world.

: Frenzied Regeneration is a massive heal over time that contributes largely to your survivability. In 226 gear this will be healing for approximately 8,000 HP per tick. Frenzied Regeneration is boosted by the

conduit, and acts as a 'cheat-death' effect through

conduit. In later PvP seasons this will activate almost every 40s, meaning you will have a cheat-death effect for every enemy go/setup.
Utility Cooldowns

: Dash is a strong speed boost that automatically shifts you into

. This is a great ability for crossing the map, kiting melee, or diving a pillar when your enemy is kiting you.

: Stampeding Roar is another great movement speed cooldown, and also has the benefits of being AoE. Something to note is that if you use this spell while in Balance form you will shift into

, if you use it in

you'll stay in

. This is another great utility ability in the same way as

: Typhoon is the Balance Druid's affinity spell, and it has quite a few applications. We can use Typhoon as a form of micro-CC, whether to interrupt a healer for another second while our teammate does damage, or to interrupt a spell-cast; we can also use Typhoon to our advantage on maps such as Mugambala and Blade's Edge Arena, where playing on the edge of the ramp/bridge and knocking enemy melee off you is a great way to relieve pressure from your healer.

: Innervate is a great healer-enabling cooldown can also be used as a form of purge protection for your healer. This is a great spell to throw out on the opener and potentially on cooldown as required to keep your healer's mana topped up and keep them in the game for longer.

: Mass Entangle is naturally going to be a component of your crowd-control chain, however it can be also used to defensively peel against enemy melee, and completely cripple Windwalker Monks when they cast

Effective Strategies for Balance Druid in PvP
Bursting
Bursting in PvP is typically preceded by having some form of crowd-control on the enemy healer. This can be something as simple as

stopping an enemy healer from casting, to hard crowd-control, such as your

. There are naturally situations where you may be able to kill without any crowd-control, however if you're going to invest offensive cooldowns, you want to try have crowd-control to force defensive cooldowns or trinkets.

Common Mistakes Balance Druids Make
Spending too much time in

is an amazing ability and will certainly keep you alive, there is an opportunity cost with spending too much time within the form itself. Whilst you are generating Astral Power passively, you are not contributing meaningful damage, you are not rotating through your Eclipses (or making full use out of them), and you are relieving pressure from the enemy healer. With that being said you do need to juggle how much time you spend in
熊形态
, as dead DPS do no DPS.

Useage
Effectively using
旋风
is going to make or break your success as a Balance Druid.
旋风
is extremely effective in creating offensive pressure and completely saving your team. Tracking your enemies offensive and defensive cooldowns and being aware of your
旋风
diminishing return is absolutely pivotal.
Don't press Cyclone just to press Cyclone!
You can use Cyclone in a few different ways:
Offensively:
You are able to use
旋风
offensively on enemies' defensive cooldowns, such as
牺牲之手
or
业报之触
where using
旋风
will absorb any of the healing they would normally be receiving and soaking up value time of their defensive cooldown. A triple
旋风
on a target that has used a defensive, and then three
旋风
s on the enemy healer is a great way to secure a kill.
Defensively:
Allowing a Fire Mage to free cast a full
燃烧
into your healer or teammate is a death sentence. Thankfully, you're able to use
旋风
to completely waste the cooldown, or at the very least slow the amount of damage coming in, force their trinket, and re-
旋风
. Good players will be holding their interrupts (
法术反制
) as a means to stop your
旋风
peel, so you can use
夺魂咆哮
into
旋风
to set this up and ensure effective peels. Learn enemy defensive cooldowns, learn to react to these with

, if you can successfully

an enemies' offensive cooldowns, that can save a defensive cooldown from your team.
