Torghast, Tower of the Damned
is a replayable endgame instanced feature introduced in
Shadowlands
. Blood Death Knight players looking to improve their characters will be spending a great deal of time here; Torghast is one of the best sources for

Legendary Armor
.
Besides grinding for their Legendary Armor pieces, players can also enter the Twisting Corridors inside Torghast. A special prestige mode that offers a greater challenge and awards players with cosmetic rewards, including a mount that works in the Maw!

Blood Death Knight Strengths and Weaknesses in Torghast
As a tank, you are naturally privileged in both the Twisting Corridors and the regular Torghast wings: much like Battle for Azeroth Visions, mobs have less health due to you not being a DPS.
On top of this, the amount of control you normally have is compounded by some game-changing anima powers: kick cooldown reduction, reduced cooldown on some of your main cooldowns, along with some pretty great covenant-specific powers.
All is not roses, however. We start off being relatively weak until we get one of the many possible combos of powers available to us. In the first few floors, while we are not fragile as most of the DPS specs, we should still pay attention.
Finally, we have no real "one power seals the deal" build. A lot of them revolve around combining powers together, and it feels
awful
to miss the capstone in a build.
Navigating the Twisting Corridors as a Blood Death Knight
Solo Blood Death Knight in Torghast
Your playstyle as a Blood Death Knight is very straightforward: don't pull too big, don't pull too small, grab a

along the way (as it allows you to gain 40% of your DTPS as DPS for free!) along with a copy of

(so you eventually will have every runeforge available to you), and climb the floors one by one, making sure to grab every single anima power along the way.

is always worth picking up for a significant increase in DPS.
You'll no doubt find many enemies you can Control Undead. In particular, look out for Runecarved mobs, as they do a ton of damage and have an AoE fear. Tower Sentinels can also be controlled, taking them out of the fight, although they're usually pretty free kills.
Beyond that, however, I'm afraid that Torghast is very similar to normal gameplay for a Blood Death Knight, except that the spec feels
way
better and more fun with some anima powers, to the point that we wish some of them were available outside of it.
Group Delving
Your role in Torghast while in a group will be very similar to the one you undertake in Mythic+: pick up mobs, make sure they do not kill anybody, and more importantly,
survive
. Sadly, your playstyle does not really change, and neither do the powers you take. The mob health and damage scales based on group size and composition, so the more people you have, the more value

The build you will be using in Torghast is similar to the build you normally run in Mythic+:

Most of these talent-acquisition anima powers are relatively unimpactful and basic quality-of-life picks.
Covenant-Specific Information for Blood Death Knights in Torghast
Kyrian
Kyrian Blood Death Knights gain access to a host of fun but largely unimpactful powers buffing their Shackle:

causes it to pulse an AoE stun around its target

increases all damage done to the target by 20%, stackable. Sadly, due to it being a rather rare power, you'll likely not see it often

causes it to reduce damage dealt by an enemy by 10%. This is pretty bad, as it interacts negatively with Elethium Infusers

should be avoided at all costs
, as it can mind control (and reset) bosses
Overall, nothing really changes in playstyle either: you gain no additional skips, and no real interaction with your environment.
Venthyr
Venthyr offers very little divergence in play in Torghast, with one big catch: some ledges that were previously out of reach can be safely reached with Door to Shadow. Due to this, however, it may take a minute of AFK to get
back
from such a ledge teleport (as some of them have a gap in between), or two if you manage to also snag a copy of

On the power front, a single power for Venthyr turns Door to Shadow into a nuke:

removes its cooldown during Swarming Mist, and causes you to explode for 300% AP damage where you land. Simple, fun, spammable.
You can compound this slightly further by getting

, but this only really grants you one more Door to Shadow during it.
Necrolord
Necrolords gain access to a
ridiculously strong
anima power:

This effectively turns each Fleshcraft tick into a bomb. You, quite literally, start channeling in the middle of packs, and watch as they essentially kill themselves on it.
Even better: channel Fleshcraft fully, then walk into a boss and watch it detonate.
Still not satisfied?

for a bonus 100% max HP,

to increase the shield itself, and the stackable Obleron endurances (

Night Fae
There's... frankly nothing good there? At best, you can stack

for quite a bit of extra damage inside of Death's Due.
Best Anima Power Builds for Blood Death Knights
Coils of Death
An extremely good single-target focused build revolves around buffing a spell we do not normally use: Death Coil. A few anima powers in Torghast that play around and amplify this spell are listed below:
颅骨之花
should be stacked as many times as possible

causes Lichborne to fire off a death coil every second at a nearby target. Don't forget
巫妖长袍
if you get this, in order to reduce its cooldown to mere seconds instead of a minute!
骸骨收割
causes death coil to add an additional DoT for 60% of the damage
over 5 seconds. If you kill a target during it, you get a 1 minute skulker/magus pet. The pet part is largely only useful on floors, whilst
the 60% extra damage is for bosses.
The net result can be coils hitting for 100k+, with an additional 5s DoT, for 45 Runic Power, machine gunning automatically during lichborne. Very well worth the investment if you can collect all the pieces!
Interrupt-IBF-Dragon
A trio of powers can get very fun very fast once you collect all the pieces:
剑舞图腾
reduces the cooldown of your interrupt by 3s when interrupting a spell...
...whilst
无尽坚韧
causes a successful interrupt to cast Icebound Fortitude...
...and
远古龙息
causes Icebound Fortitude to AoE in an 8yd radius around you for 300% AP damage and stuns everything hit for 7 seconds
The first can obviously be stacked so Mind Freeze is a 3-4s cooldown, leading to some pretty good quality of life. Do bear in mind that this
has zero value
if your target cannot be interrupted.
Ghoul explosion
Two separate anima powers also combo off each other fantastically well, very similarly to coil. The good news is that it requires fewer powers; the bad news is that one of them is epic:

, which is stackable, causes Sacrificial Pact to have no cooldown, and Raise Dead to have a 25s cooldown instead of the 2min it normally has. It also increases the damage of Sacrificial Pact by 300% per stack.
At 3 stacks, you should be seeing 20k crits. As this power is
very
common, it should be no issue to get this to ridiculous power levels in the Twisting Corridors!

An honorable mention: 4 Horsemen. Yes, summoning one of them, and that power is stackable. So you could potentially summon all 4 at the same time! Sadly, getting the same epic power 4 times is kinda rare.
Other than that: I guess the second anima power for the ghoul explosion is missing.

My optimal progression is to always get
颅骨之花
, always buy
巫妖长袍
, and hope you get
巨恶混饮
! Multiple stacks of
巨恶混饮
compound (15%->30%->45%) and it can be applied twice! This makes you a powerhouse whenever
巫妖之躯
is available and you have enough Runic Power to cast two Death Coils on yourself (which also heals you; sometimes to full health!)
If you happen to get
送葬者头冠
too (which applies
巨恶混饮
automatically without having to target yourself), your run is now a cakewalk. The Runic Power requirement is removed, and with enough
巫妖长袍
, you can run
巫妖之躯
/
送葬者头冠
/
巨恶混饮
again after just 2-3 Death Strikes. It's amazing.

A couple of things I'd like to add after doing the grind as a solo Kyrian Blood Death Knight.
The Last Boss
First of all, everything a solo Blood Death Knight should do need to revolve around the last boss. Layers can be pulled much more securely and the player will never really hit an actual road block. However, the last boss can and will one shot you if you are not careful as well as sometimes presenting situations that can be simply impossible if your build is not strong enough. As such, every single ability should be chosen with the "How will this help me on the last boss" mindset.
What not to take
No mawrat powers
除害专家
,
寻渊者缰绳
, etc.
No speed boosts (everything is avoidable with basic walking if you watch out)
边缘潜伏者
,
虚无之井
, etc.
No AOE powers that don't apply to the main target

No AMZ or AMS powers since most magic is avoidable and most of the damage comes from other sources.

Similarly,

simply doesn't scale. Plus, runic power generation keeps us reducing our cool-downs and makes

almost mandatory even if it only affects the last boss.

The advantage of this sandwich is that it can mostly be bought. All these abilities are sold from the brokers, and are sold

to us.

We heal up to full under a couple seconds with

, so we just don't want to get one shot.
Strongly suggested

will add a good chunk, and if all goes well, its uptime is nearly 100%.
Special mention to
饥渴之石
who consistently heals almost as much as
灵界打击
and does it fast and well.
How about spices?
A sandwich can always be made to be better with extra spices. Some of these are nice, but missing out on them will not make you starve.
活化武器
is the spiciest of all spices since it will trigger our rune weapon, with all the things the rune weapon does. More runic power, double disease, more efficient marrowrends, etc.
骸骨收割
combos well with
送葬者头冠
but doesn't do much on the last boss.
As mentioned above,
无尽坚韧
combos with
远古龙息
, especially if you get a couple
剑舞图腾
. Good news is we get 2 guaranteed 3-choice epic powers after first and second boss, so seeing
远古龙息
is almost guaranteed. However, you want to prioritize
增骨汁
and
无尽坚韧
actually seems rarer.
符文猎手
takes around 2-3 layers to fill up, and you only really want a couple of those runes.
癔狂符文
is the main one, to get more runic power to make the machine go boom.
冰锋符文
is a flat percentage increase, which scales well.
Note
this makes it so your auto-attacks can now proc
霜寒之触
, but this doesn't do much damage in the end since the nerf.

Just cleared layer 8 as Blood DK (Night Fae) 200ilvl, solo. Using Superstrain legendary. Had no deaths but took me about 4 hours.
About my "targeted/main" Anima Powers (sorry i don't remember them by name):
- Had about 3 stacks of Death & Decay (Death's Due) anima that gives 10%haste and 10%damage reduction.
- 1 Anima that gives 100% Armor
- 3 stacks of Death Gate power that gives a horseman (3 x horseman) which is incredibly helpful as they have the same amount of life as you...and also taunt and occasionaly do a Anti-Magic Zone
- a couple of stacks of the Anima that reduces Mind Freeze cooldown if intrerupt is successful (got it on 6 seconds)
- also the anima that gives Icebound Fortitude for each successful intrerupt, which does help a ton.
- as well as the anima that summons a dragon that freezes all targets and does a good amount of damage in vecinity of the caster when Icebound Fortitude procs (it works as well for the Icebound Fortitude given by the intrerupt anima)
- a bunch of haste, versatility, critical and mastery animas... had about 50% crit, 60% haste, 60% mastery and 30% versatility by the end..
- Also the anima that gives damage reduction 20% and summon a ghoul on Deathgrip, together with the Deathgrip multiplier anima, and as well the anima that pulls you to the target and knocks it and the ones in vecinity down for 3 second (you just need to step back from add a bit, to be able to knock it down when you Deathgrip it)... thats a good combo that adds a few intrerupts, as well as some pets to the game, which help distract the boss and damage.
- the anima that allows you to have/gives all weapon runes from runeforge
- a couple of animas that give 15% damage increase on Ice Block (and also getting it applied on secondary/third/fourth/etc target) very usefull going through levels as well at the end boss.
-also had the anima that reduces Blade Dance cooldown, stacked up to an end cooldown of 20 seconds....that with ice-block anima its a ton of extra damage since most atacks are Physical....
These are the main ones i remember, the rest i filled mostly for single target optimisation (to help at the last boss) since up to the last boss, everything is doable in calculated pulls. But some animas are just useless in the last fight so if i happened to have single target options, even common, against epic ones that wouldn't help in the end, i chose the common ones.
Examples of animas i avoided:
- Anima that gives you shield if you collect phantasma... its pretty useless as you won't ever get too much of them to make a difference and then it is just a wasted choice...
- Animas that give speed
- Animas that allows you to see treasure through walls or the one that lets you see which target holds the Anima Cell useless as well, as you would need to clear everything anyway to get as much phantasma to buy everything that helps from shop.
- As i don't have much reputation with Ve'nari and couldn't upgrade stuff for Torghast runs, i also avoided Ravenous Anima Cell from shop as mostly gives me worse powers that i could instead buy from shop... Only bought the Anima Cells and whatever was good for my needs and just saved the last unspent phantasma for next shop.
P.S. In my own oppinion, each time you see a Life Increase Anima at the shop, buy it!... You never know how many/few will drop and every bit of extra life would help in the end if you miss an intrerupt or whatever...
As well as the Increase Damage by 30% untill the fight is over Potion.... buy it whenever you see it in shop and keep it for the last boss. BUT don't use it on first try, untill you are certain you won't die... To at least see how boss moves and what it does so you won't waste it.
