Welcome to Wowhead's Discipline Priest Arena PvP Guide, up to date for 9.2.7! In this section of the guide, we will cover the best talents for Discipline Priests in Arena PvP, optimal PvP Talent builds, and the best racials for both Alliance and Horde Discipline Priests in PvP. Discipline Priests do not have just one build, and talents should be changed depending on your arena matchup. Discipline Priests have many more strong racials to choose from when playing Alliance characters.

Recommended Talent Builds for Discipline Priests in PvP
We can’t have a perfect build for Discipline Priest that we will use for every situation, it doesn't really exist as you'll want to change your talents nearly every game depending on which composition you face, which map you are playing in, and which composition we are playing. There are some 'default' selections that you'll run more often than not however, and having these recommended talents active outside of arena will be useful in most scenarios if you ever forget to swap your talents inside of arena, which I'm personally very guilty of. I've found these talents to be the best build all-around for if you do ever forget to swap your talents about.
Make sure you fully understand why you're picking your talents and adjust them to your playstyle, as understanding the strengths of your talents and why you should pick them in certain situations really helps out with utilizing them to the fullest potential. So we are going to take a look on every talents, explaining where I think they fit the best.
With the fast-paced meta right now we will need a big healing output to outheal our enemy damage, so my main build for PvP would be the one above.
I'm going to show you the specs that I'm generally running now and what I think will be broadly useful.
For 2v2 vs Healer/DPS:
For 2v2 vs Rogue/Mage or double DPS:

. We will also pick this talent when we don't have many interrupts in the enemy team for us, because it doesn't matter we have 4 bolts in our Penance if we are going to be interrupted on it, for example against melee cleaves that run us down.

is an extremely effective buff that helps you with recovering your team. This talent pick is especially powerful in combination with
against compositions that possess heavy burst, allowing you to outheal it more effectively. It also adds to your survivability in combination with
防护圣光
. As we mentioned before against melee cleaves that run the Discipline Priest down this talent will be really good since whenever we or our teammates drop lower than 35% health it will buff our damage and healing for 20% for 10 seconds.

is a very aggressive pick that should be considered with extreme caution as you sacrifice a lot of healing, but as we know sometimes a good attack is the better defense so especially with

in Shadowlands as we mentioned

would be a really good talent to pick, since also it has really low mana cost.

provides you with an immense amount of burst damage which can help your team score a kill or even create windows of opportunity to win the game. When playing

, you'll often want to pair it with PvP talent

. Schism should only be used in specific situations for fast kills, but you will be better served with the other two options in most cases.

is extremely powerful against melee cleaves that will train the Discipline Priest into the ground. Not only does it technically triple the healing output of
when casted on yourself, it also provides you with a 10% damage reduction while the buff is active. Keep in mind that
防护圣光
can be purged.

is the talent that offers the most mobility, you'll be picking most often as it increases your mobility around the map, helping you line of sight enemy crowd control as well as reaching enemies in order to land your
心灵尖啸
on them. Take this if you don't need the purge protection or survivability from the other two options.
Level 30-
摧心魔

is a viable option in RBGs for how much you shield. In RBGs,

is a strong pick because it provides you with a short cooldown that helps out with healing and damage while not having to worry about overcomplicating your global cooldown management. Although, keep in mind that your

is susceptible to CC abilities such as

, so when facing classes and compositions that thrive on OOMing the Discipline Priest that can CC your
摧心魔
(mainly Warlocks, Mages and Druids), consider picking
instead, but in the other hand we should consider that

is a really good pick into Rogues (Outlaw/Subtlety) because we will have the possibility to drop our
摧心魔
just before
致盲
and we won't drop combat so they can't

. I mentioned this because Outlaw Rogue will have CD reduction in
致盲
so it won't be the same cooldown that our PvP trinket is, which is the cooldown we trade against
致盲
most of the time. This means

will help us a lot against Outlaw and also against Subtlety Rogues since they can Sap out of

can maintain us in combat during it and we won't get

in certain matchups (for example due to having to spam heal), consider picking

instead.
Level 35 -

by 30 seconds, allowing you to set up crowd control chains much more regularly.

is a key ability to surviving melee cleaves that run the Discipline Priest down. Using

appropriately (around the corner of a pillar or on top of Mugambala's stairs, Blade's Edge Arena's bridge, on top of Ruins of Lordaeron's Tomb, around the edges of the Dalaran Sewers platform, etc.) can buy you great amounts of time which can help you outlive the melee cleaves for as long as your team needs in order to score a kill against them.

which can be an effective strategy. This is especially true if you have another source of CC that's on the disorients diminishing returns category (

because it is useless in PvP.
Level 40 -

if they already have a DoT active. This is extremely powerful as it saves you globals when you're applying your DoTs to help your consistent healing throughput. Also it will provide us a big Healing over Time (HoT) thanks to

are both worse than

仁慈
is the strongest pick overall as it reduces the amount of damage your team takes and thus doesn't require you to heal as much. Passive damage reduction in arena PvP is important for survivability and also helps out with your mana efficiency.

is back; it was really good in Mists of Pandaria but this iteration is not better than the other options because

replaces

is a good talent for PvE especially for Raid as far as I know, but is not any good for PvP Arena.
Recommended PvP Talents for Discipline Priest
心灵光影
This has been the best PvP talent we got in 9.1 so this is highly recommended since it will help us to our Healing spells cost 15% less mana (that has always been our biggest weakness) and also increases our spell damage and Atonement healing increased by 10%.
Being the only healer in the game to have two dispels can be huge against Mage and Warlock teams that have spammable CC such as
变形术
and
恐惧
.

Purified Resolve is a good talent against Shadow Priest compositions that don't have (dispellable) spammable CC, such as SP/Boomkin, SP/Hunter, and RPS if you want to be spam dispelling their DoTs. Also against Elemental Shamans and dispel their Flame Shocks on cooldown, but I don't use Purified Resolve a lot since I consider the other PvP talents to be very powerful. It's not good against compositions like SP/Mage because if you ever dispel something other than
变形术
or
冰霜新星
, you can immediately get punished by having your teammates sit a full duration of CC.

is extremely strong in healing output and mana efficiency in all situations,

increases the Critical Strike chance of a few of your abilities whilst also buffing your

by 20% as you have a lot of passive healing going out from your

even when unable to cast. Good against rot and burst teams alike. Keep in mind that

is a very powerful tool to outheal burst damage. It increases the amount of healing done with

by 250% and also makes it an instant cast. In combination with

, this can top your teammates instantly by consuming both charges. However, you might not always want to do this as they regenerate once per 20 seconds, making it a 40 second cooldown if you use both simultaneously every time. You might also want to let your teammates drop under 35% health if they're already low to proc

before consuming your

charges to receive the 20% bonus healing.

pays a heavy toll on your mana bar since it costs 3,250 mana, and this is not recommended in my opinion unless it's a niche situation like double DPS 2v2 or a composition in 3v3 where you know it's going to be a fast game for the composition you are playing and the composition you are facing, so this will help us to keep our team high health and playing offensively.

is now on the global cooldown which makes it a weak defensive cooldown. It is most useful for refreshing Atonements as they are falling off in RBGs.
is an insanely powerful offensive cooldown for your entire team. It increases your damage and everyone effected by your

s by 15% for 8 seconds, allowing you to punch through several defensive cooldowns such as

as you basically nullify their effective damage reduction. can also be used to bait or force enemy defensive cooldowns without your teammates committing too many of their own cooldowns, creating windows of opportunity for your team. On top of that, it even serves as a defensive cooldown at the same time, as your healing through

will be increased slightly. This is especially powerful in setup based compositions such as Jungle Cleave and RMP.

This is a relatively new PvP Talent for Discipline Priests and it's so powerful because with it, we can steal one spell off an enemy player in arena (only if it uses mana) and we will get (at the moment)

from Mages will allow us to spam CC on the enemy team with

and if we get kicked, we will get locked out on Arcane, leaving us free to cast in Holy and Shadow schools. I consider this talent a must when we are against a Mage/Warlock.
is extremely powerful and is Discipline Priest's most powerful defensive ability, making
真言术:障
a 1.5 minute cooldown which reduces damage taken by 50% for 10 seconds to everyone inside. It's especially good if you can use this to trade cooldowns with offensive CDs such as
宿敌
, a must-have ability for Disc in almost all match ups that have some form of burst cooldowns together with Trinity.
Optimal Racials for Discipline Priests in PvP
Alliance
With how fast the game is currently is, we are often forced into
角斗士勋章
, thus Night Elf is the best race for Discipline Priests.

gives us an option to avoid CC if you use it properly, being able to avoid projectiles like

and also instant CCs such as

also gives us an instant combat drop, letting us get drinks faster and alleviates one of the Discipline Priest problems of having mana issues. Also another good alliance options could be Human if we wanna play

with 3 min CD only for stuns or Gnome since lately we watch a lot of Balance druid compositions and

The racial section should be updated to include allied races, void elf racial seems good enough to be worth to mention.

Trinity was decent in 2v2, but I don't see how it has any use there anymore. It's only good in 3's because being able to prolong atonement by 15 sec isn't worth it. I assume your mention of it only applies to 3's...
