PvP Role for Feral Druid DPS in Burning Crusade Classic
In Classic WoW, Feral Druids play a hybrid role as both tanks and DPS, as the Feral tree allows both roles to be optimized equally without making compromises on either front. As a result, there is not a clear designation of what a Feral "tank" versus "DPS" means in a PvP context, as a good Feral player will utilize both
猎豹形态
and
巨熊形态
as appropriate, often shifting between the two in a single combat phase. As a result, the only difference between PvPing as a Feral DPS vs. tank is the choice of gear that is used. This guide will focus on playing a Feral Druid primarily as a burst damage dealer, wearing a lot of melee DPS gear to unleash massive damage on your opponents in a brief available window.
A Feral Druid's role as a burst single target damage dealer is quite different from that of more common Druid PvP builds that spec heavily into the Restoration tree, where the Druid instead focuses on long term sustainability to outlast the opposing team. Since the Feral build lacks healing efficiency talents and important cooldowns like
自然迅捷
, Feral Druids are unable to fully outheal incoming damage, so they must instead kill enemy players quickly during burst windows before inevitably taking fatal damage themselves. Compared to a "pure" DPS class like a Rogue, Feral Druids deal less damage but provide unique utility in the form of roots and group healing. In this context, a good Feral Druid will utilize all of their shapeshift forms to provide the appropriate utility at any given time:
猎豹形态
for stealth openers and target swapping,
巨熊形态
for stuns, and caster form for roots and heals.
In an Arena setting, Ferals perform the best in 2v2 double DPS teams, where the Druid's partner can also provide very high burst damage as well as a complimentary crowd control toolkit. In a Battleground setting, DPS focused Feral Druids are very effective at defending bases in
阿拉希盆地
and capping towers in
奥特兰克山谷
. In both cases, a Feral Druid is effective because of their ability to secure surprise openers on enemy players using
潜行
, combined with massive burst damage potential.
TBC provides Feral Druids with a number of new unique spells that enable them to fill this "hybrid DPS" niche in a PvP setting. The
割碎
ability adds an Incapacitate as a new class of crowd control for the Druid, and also serves as a reliable spell interrupt starting in Season 3. TBC also adds the new healing over time (HoT) spell
生命绽放
, which can be used in conjunction with
回春术
and
愈合
to help keep the Druid and their teammates alive when on the move. The raw burst damage output of Feral Druids also gets a big boost in TBC via the introduction of
裂伤(豹)
, which amplifies all of their core damaging abilities. But the most iconic new Druid PvP spell in TBC is
飓风术
, which allows a Feral Druid to completely shut down a chosen target while bursting down another.
PvP Viability for Feral Druid DPS in Burning Crusade Classic
Throughout TBC, Feral Druids are the weakest of the three Druid specs in PvP. Compared to a deep Restoration build, Feral builds lack any form of efficient self-sustainability, so a Feral always has a timer on their health pool when engaging an enemy player. Even though Druids are a hybrid class and can heal even in Feral Spec, a Feral Druid's heals are very mana inefficient and limit their ability to powershift for more burst damage. The
治愈本能
talent mitigates this somewhat, but a Feral is simply unable to generate enough healing throughput to fully counter incoming damage, and must instead rely on killing opponents quickly before inevitably dying themselves. Balance builds also have an advantage over Ferals in that they can pick up the critical healing cooldown
自然迅捷
as well as the sustainability talents
梦境
and
月光
, which are off limits to Ferals because they must invest 41 points into the Feral tree in order to pick up
裂伤
. Nevertheless, a skilled Feral Druid player can still perform quite competitively in both Arenas and Battlegrounds by honing in on the spec's burst damage potential.
Arena Viability for Feral Druid DPS in Burning Crusade Classic
Ferals are most viable in 2v2 double DPS teams where their poor sustainability is less relevant while their high burst DPS can shine. Even in 2v2, however, Feral is not competitive during Seasons 1 and 2 of TBC, and only blossoms in Seasons 3 and 4. The main reason for this is the very poor Arena gear available to Ferals in the first two seasons: the early Gladiator sets
角斗士的圣装
and
残酷角斗士的圣装
waste a ton of item budget on +Healing and therefore provide inadequate amounts of raw DPS. These sets are a prime example of the "hybrid tax" in early WoW, where hybrid gear sets were spread too thin in the variety of stats they provided, and therefore were not competitive on any one axis. In this case, because Feral Druids will never be able to achieve long term sustainability in an Arena match, they are much better served going "all in" on burst damage than by mixing mediocre DPS with mediocre healing output. In Season 3, Blizzard finally learned how to itemize Feral PvP gear properly, so the corresponding Gladiator sets are loaded with DPS stats like Hit Rating, Critical Strike Rating, and Armor Penetration. This is when Feral Druids start to really shine in 2v2 Arenas when paired with complementary DPS specs, as their damage output blows up with better gear and allows them to viably fill a DPS niche.
Unfortunately, Feral Druids are far less viable in the 3v3 Arena format, which is much more penalizing to off-meta team compositions than 2v2. In this format, Ferals feel more like "budget Rogues" with a less effective toolkit and a less impactful niche to fill when a dedicated healer is present. For example, Rogues have superior stealth, far better mitigation of caster damage via
暗影斗篷
, a 70% slow, and crowd control abilities that do not require a cast time. Theoretically, Ferals would bring the same benefits that they do in 2v2 Arenas if placed in a triple DPS team, but it is very difficult to perform well with triple DPS comps in the competitive brackets.
Battleground Viability for Feral Druid DPS in Burning Crusade Classic
Similar to Arenas, Feral is not an ideal talent spec for PvPing in Battlegrounds, but can still fill a useful niche in each one. Premade Battleground teams will typically require a Feral Druid to respec into a Restoration or Balance-Restoration hybrid spec, especially in
战歌峡谷
where sustainability is critical for effective flag carrying. In a PuG setting, however, a skilled Feral player can certainly hold their own by picking the right roles to fill in the Battleground.
Feral Druids are very effective at spinning flags in
阿拉希盆地
because they can stick to a flag while stealthed, allowing them to get the jump on players attempting to back cap when the base appears to be unguarded. The ability for the Druid to stealth allows them to warn their team of incoming enemy players in order to seek reinforcements. Feral Druids in particular excel at this role because their DPS in
猎豹形态
is high enough to poke a large hole in an attacker's health pool before being forced to swap to
巨熊形态
for more survivability and crowd control. For the same reason, Ferals can effectively cap and defend towers in
奥特兰克山谷
on their own without any help, and can also fill this niche in
风暴之眼
.
Cloth wearers are the best targets for a Feral Druid, especially in Season 1of TBC Classic where Resilience levels on gear are low. Against such squishy targets, a combination of
裂伤(豹)
followed by several amplified
撕碎
casts can delete the opponent just shortly after the
突袭
stun wears off. Furthermore, Ferals also possess a variety of bleeds that can be similarly applied within a short stun window:
斜掠
,
割裂
, and
割伤
. These can block an enemy player from being able to spin a flag for an extended period of time while help arrives.
Best PvP Talent Builds for Feral Druid Tank in Burning Crusade Classic
PvP 1/46/14 Feral Druid DPS Talent Build
This build collects as many beneficial utility talents as possible while progressing deep enough into the Feral tree to pick up
裂伤
, which is the core building block for a Feral Druid's burst damage output. Not only does
裂伤(豹)
buff all of the Feral's
撕碎
and bleed damage, but it is also the strongest burst damage source on its own whenever the Druid is forced to attack an opponent from the front, which occurs frequently against skilled PvP opponents. The majority of remaining talents in the build improve the Druid's DPS output in various ways:
凶暴
and
撕碎攻击
make the core Feral damage abilities affordable.
锋利兽爪
,
猛兽攻击
,
野性之心
,
适者生存
,
狩猎天性
, and
自然主义
are raw damage and stat buffs.
原始狂怒
and
激怒
speed up Combo Point generation via critical strikes and powershifts, respectively.
In addition to optimizing raw damage output, the build also picks up a number of essential utility talents for PvP encounters:
自然之握
is usable while shapeshifted in TBC, making it a valuable survivability tool for slipping away from attackers.
野性本能
is critical for effective stealth openers.
豹之迅捷
stacks with the movement speed bonuses on Arena gear sets and makes Druids incredibly mobile in the outdoor Arena and Battleground environments.
野性冲锋
functions as a mobility tool for bridging the gap to fleeing opponents, an immobilization CC, and a spell interrupt all in one.
自然变形
is essential for sustaining the large number of shapeshifts required of a Feral Druid during burst damage windows.
PvP Gearing for Feral Druid DPS in Burning Crusade Classic
Feral Druids will wear at least 4 out of 5 of the Gladiator set pieces in every single season of TBC Classic. The reason for this is the powerful 4-piece set bonus of
角斗士的圣装
and the subsequent sets from future seasons. The movement speed buff from the set bonus stacks with
豹之迅捷
, providing a net
50%
speed boost to the Druid when in
猎豹形态
. This makes it very easy for a Feral Druid to target swap and peel without needing to shapeshift, and complements their innate mobility from being able to negate all movement impairing effects.
The epic PvP off-set pieces from each season are also incredibly good, so farming Marks and Honor to acquire these at the start of every season should be a high priority for any Feral Druid who PvPs seriously. When optimizing for burst damage output, the "Dragonhide" off-set designed for Feral Druids is superior to the "Leather" off-set designed for Rogue, as the former provides a better mix of both raw primary stats and secondary DPS stats + Resilience (see
老兵的龙皮护腕
vs.
老兵的皮甲护腕
for example). Until Sunwell, the bracers and belt from the off-set will be used for PvP in every season.
Starting in Phase 3, blending PvE gear into your PvP set becomes extremely valuable. Both the 2-piece
and
4-pieces bonuses of
雷霆之心甲胄
are absolutely amazing for boosting a Feral's burst damage output. The boosted output synergizes very well with the Season 3 and 4 Gladiator sets, which pack a lot more DPS stats than in earlier seasons and turn a Feral Druid into an unmatched burst melee damage dealer. Once Sunwell is released, both the 4-piece Gladiator set bonus
and
the 4-piece Tier 6 set bonus can be combined in a single gear set due to the new Tier 6 pieces introduced in the bracer, belt, and boots slots, which are not shared with the Gladiator set. This is when Feral Druids are their absolute strongest in relation to other classes, and Ferals become quite competitive in 2v2 Arenas during Season 4.
Anther strong miscellaneous piece with big PvP value is
至尊二戒
, which is so well itemized that you ideally use two of them. Additionally,
硬化氪金项链
from Jewelcrafting in Phase 5 is a phenomenal piece that synergizes with the Armor Penetration that is already present elsewhere in the gear set.
Below is an example of what a Best in Slot PvP set might look like for a Druid in Phase 3.
PvP Abilities & Rotation for Feral Druid DPS in Burning Crusade Classic
The first class of abilities to understand as a Feral PvPer are crowd control (CC) spells, which are used to keep enemy players inactive so that you can either burst them down, swap targets to their isolated partner, or escape from a disadvantageous situation. When opening up on an opponent from stealth,
突袭
can be used to stun the target for 3 seconds. Typically a
突袭
opener precedes a burst damage chain, since it awards a Combo Point and gives the Feral a free window for pumping damage. The second stun in the Druid toolkit is
猛击
, which is used in
巨熊形态
. Bash is more often used reactively either as a defensive tool or proxy interrupt.
When facing melee damage dealers like Rogues and Warriors,
纠缠根须
gives the Druid a unique class of CC that does not share diminishing returns with most common CC abilities from other classes. Roots can also be used reactively in melee range via the
自然之握
spell, allowing the Druid to effectively kite a melee attacker in order to reset and re-stealth. To complement a Druid's rooting capabilities,
飓风术
can put a player of your choice completely out of commission for 6 seconds, which is especially powerful in Arena matches because it allows your team to focus down another player while their teammate is unable to peel. A similar effect can be obtained while in
猎豹形态
using
割碎
, which complements
纠缠根须
and
飓风术
because it can be used in melee range without interruption.
野性冲锋
is a tool for interrupting enemy spell casting outside of melee range, and also bridges the gap to any desired target when attempting to peel them off a teammate. Starting in Arena Season 3,
割碎
also functions as a reliable spell interrupt due to the unique equip effect of
复仇角斗士的龙皮手套
, which turns
割碎
into a silence and spell interrupt on top of its incapacitate effect.
The next important class of abilities form the basis of a Feral Druid's burst rotation window, and are used opportunistically whenever there are several seconds available to attack an enemy unimpeded (such as after a
突袭
opener). The Feral burst sequence involves putting up
裂伤(豹)
and then chaining
撕碎
, which is boosted substantially by the Mangle debuff. After building Combo Points as quickly as possible, they can be spent on either
凶猛撕咬
for large burst damage,
割碎
for subsequent target swapping, or
割裂
for a powerful bleed. When the target will not die immediately, Ferals also possess a variety of bleeds that can be similarly applied within a short stun window:
突袭
into
斜掠
into
割裂
, as well as
割伤
when shifting into
巨熊形态
.
To further capitalize on a burst damage window, Feral Druids can
powershift
, which involves instantaneously shifting out of
猎豹形态
and then back in using a macro described below. This provides the Druid with a free 40 Energy via the
激怒
talent, which can be leveraged to pump more Mangles or Shreds into the target before a stun lock expires. Powershifting is used continuously in PvE encounters but only situationally in PvP, so learning when to optimally powershift for maximizing burst potential is an important skill to master.
Best Arena Team Compositions for Feral Druid DPS in Burning Crusade Classic
The Feral Druid / Rogue team composition is the most competitively viable Arena configuration in TBC. These two classes synergize excellently with one another, as they can both open from stealth, keep a target stun-locked, and excel in dishing out burst damage. Rogues possess potent crowd control abilities such as
闷棍
,
致盲
, and
肾击
, which complement the Druid toolkit of
割碎
,
飓风术
,
纠缠根须
, and
突袭
/
猛击
. As a result, a coordinated Rogue and Feral Druid can keep a target out of commission for an extremely long window of time by alternating CCs with different DR categories. Since the strongest Feral damage ability is
撕碎
, which requires the Druid to be behind the target, the ability of a Rogue to stun-lock an enemy is especially synergistic, as it gives the Feral a window to
撕碎
repeatedly for insane burst damage.
Other double DPS combinations also work well when playing a Feral Druid: Mages, Warlocks, and Beast Mastery Hunters, for example. All of these classes possess tools for rapidly target swapping, can apply complementary CC that does not share diminishing returns with the Feral, and provide strong burst DPS themselves. Rogues are by far the most popular partner, but all three of these classes have also successfully competed to very high rankings.
Feral Druids perform very poorly in 3v3 Arena matches, but the best compositions to use in this setting are identical to the configurations used for Rogues, since the Feral Druid plays a directly analogous role in this format. A double DPS + Priest combination works the best in this format, as the Priest provides both offensive and defensive dispels, as well as complementary CC to the Druid's stuns and roots via
心灵尖啸
. Specifically, the Feral/Mage/Priest comp exhibits the best 3v3 performance, but Feral/Rogue/Priest is also popular.
PvP Macros for Feral Druid DPS in Burning Crusade Classic
#showtooltip Cat Form
/cast !Cat Form
This powershift macro is the bread and butter of the cat PvE DPS rotation, but is also extremely useful for maximizing damage output in PvP during burst windows. When used in
猎豹形态
, it instantaneously shifts you out of form and then back into
猎豹形态
, allowing you to regenerate 40 Energy via the
激怒
talent.
#showtooltip Dash
/cancelform
/cast Cat Form
/cast Dash
Shifts you into
猎豹形态
if you're not already in it, and immediately casts
急奔
as it is off the global cooldown.
#showtooltip Prowl
/cancelform
/cast Cat Form
/cast !Prowl
Shifts you into
猎豹形态
if you're not already in it, and immediately casts
潜行
as it is off the global cooldown.
#showtooltip
/cast Ravage; Shred
Casts
毁灭
when stealthed and
撕碎
when not stealthed, allowing you to use a single keybind when attacking from behind. Note that
毁灭
is a much less common stealth opener than
突袭
, but deals a massive amount of damage when a target is close to death.
#showtooltip Feral Charge
/cancelform
/cast Dire Bear Form
/cast Feral Charge
Shifts into
巨熊形态
if needed, and immediately casts
野性冲锋
. This macro relies on the
激怒
talent to work, since sufficient Rage must be available to charge immediately after shifting. The charge is not truly instant, unfortunately, because the Rage from
激怒
is only applied on the subsequent spell batch after shifting. Therefore, the macro should be spammed in order to charge as soon as possible after shifting. Due to the significant reduction in batch window for TBC Classic, this macro still feels very responsive even if not truly instantaneous.

I'm interested in a stat priority for PvP. I see from the BiS gear that you're going for over 6% Hit and no Expertise, so is it as straight-forward as
Hit > Agility > AP > Stamina?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't
至尊二戒
Phase 5?

I've noticed that Cat's Swiftness doesn't stack with the Set Movement speed bonus, I'm at 149% speed with or without the enchant.
This could be an add-on malfunction, but Deja is normally reliable. If it's true, would picking up the extra agility from Dexterity be the move, or a different enchant?

The PvE guides have feral druids keeping their
Wolfshead Helm
from Classic. Would I be gimping myself severely to keep it for PvP?
It lacks a meta-gem slot (or any gem slots), but the power-shifting still seems fairly strong. Maybe 40 Energy from the
Furor
talent is enough..?
