This guide will lead you through the steps required to open up and start naval missions at your Garrison's Shipyard. These missions are required to complete your legendary ring and your Hellfire Citadel cache missions and also offer various rewards such as
Bind on Account 650 ilvl gear
, Heirloom rings such as
, mounts, and pets.
Part : Constructing A Shipyard
Upon logging in after 6.2 launches, you will get a pop up to accept the quest
(H)/
(A). Accept this and turn it into Warchief Vol'jin/King Varian Wrynn in your town hall at your Garrison.
He will ask you to travel to
via a free flight from your Garrison flight master to hand in the quest
(H)/
(A).
When you arrive at the Iron Docks, hand that quest in to
(H)/
(A). They will offer you the quest
(H)/
(A). The items required for this quest are marked on your minimap. When you pick up that quest, you can also complete a bonus objective in the zone at the same time (it will pop up on the side of your UI) even though it is not required to start your Shipyard.
After clicking on the items, run the length of the docks to the train tracks and hand this in to Durotan/Yrel. They will offer you the quest
(H)/
(A).
To complete this quest, click the bombs on the train and click the detonator then wait for the RP to finish.
Hand this in to
. He will then offer you
(H)/
(A). To complete this quest, run back towards the front of the docks and click on the marked Blackrock Grapple. This will take you up to the overlook where you need to kill
to obtain the Shipyard blueprints. He is just up the steps in a room above Roark. Kill him and loot
.
Hand the blueprints into Roark and he will offer you the quest
(H)/
(A) which is handed in at your Garrison.
Your faction leader will then offer you
(H)/
(A) which initially constructs your shipyard - take that quest and 150
and some gold to Roark, who is now at Eventide Landing. There is a new exit from your Garrison to facilitate easier access to your shipyard.
Once you've handed in All Hands on Deck, you'll have a shipyard of your very own!
Part 2: Building Your Fleet
Once you've built your shipyard, an exclamation mark will appear at your shipyard above a Shipyard Foreman. Accept the quest
(H)/
(A) and hand it in to Roark down the beach a ways. This quest also rewards Oil, which is used to launch Naval Missions.
Roark will offer you the quest
(H)/
(A). Accept this quest and click on the blueprints. Hand this in.
If you are Alliance, accept the quest
(Alliance only) and hand that in to your Shipwright.
Both factions then can accept the quest
(H)/
(A).
To complete this quest, speak with your Shipwright to start a work order to construct a ship. This work order requires 25
and 50 Oil. After the ship is done construction (1 minute), click on the ship to put it into your Fleet. Hand this quest in to your Shipwright.
Your shipwright will then offer you
(H)/
(A). Speak with the NPC in your Shipyard to begin this quest - this will take you through the quests in
. This is not required for your shipyard or naval missions.
Part 3: Starting Missions
This part is somewhat unintuitive - at any point after you accept the
(H)/
(A) quests, you can return to your Garrison to get started on sending Naval missions out.
Either before or after you complete the Tanaan quests, if you return to your shipyard, your Shipyard Foreman will offer you the quest
(H)/
(A).
Travel to your Naval Mission table to complete this quest. Following the instructions on your UI, start a naval mission. Your first mission will offer you
as a reward - this will let you build another type of ship.
Hand in the above quest and accept the quest
(H)/
(A) and learn the blueprints you were given from the first mission. Then, complete a work order for a Destroyer ship (back at your Shipwright).
Return to your Naval Mission table and send your ships out on their 2nd mission.
Turn that quest in and pick up
/
- This quest is to instruct you on how to get you going on your naval missions.
Picking up
/
requires you to be Honored with Hand of the Prophet/Vol'jin's Headhunters Honored and to have completed
, the following quest becomes available and doing this quest instantly constructs you the
level 2 Shipyard
.
You should now be set up to complete missions and build your fleet!

So was the initial build time of the first boat reduced? On PTR for me it was 4 hours. My second ship was one minute, but my first ship was 4 hours.

-Tanaan Jack?
-Aye, it's never not a good idea to sail to Tanaan.

I have the same problem - inadvertently abandoned the quest and can't get it back. Help!

So....did the Iron Docks several times on alts. Annoying but stupidly easy for some classes. Annoying and ludicrously difficult for others. Why the big difference? Sorry, a rhetorical question but I've been there, done that. Is there a reasonably-easy way to get to the Tanaan Jungle if you don't feel like being a sailor again or is this the DK Groundhog Day thing yet again?

I spent 12 hours trying to do the Iron Docks quest line as a 636 Blood DK with Leorajh and just gave up. Nothing is more boring than content that you need a fully equipped, organised raid to do. The Orgron Lifters will kill any player in a single hit and are effectively unkillable themselves.
The only way to accomplish the pre-quest chain for Tanaan is to organise most of the server to help you on forums or somesuch.

Without flight or a buddy or another player who happens to be there at the same time, this quest is very tricky to do (but not impossible, I did it alone 5 times before getting flight).
If your ilvl is much less than 670, you might want to consider spending a few days doing Ashran and getting honor gear, which has an ilvl of 670. In two half days in Ashran recently I also picked up 2 pieces of conquest gear, which brought my ilvl up to 673. The higher ilvl will also make it much easier for you to do questing in Tanaan.
If you want to actually complete the bonus objective, that's easy, and best done first. Jump in the water and swim around the harbor clicking the boats to destroy them. Each boat counts as 6% of the total. Keep moving when you're not clicking a boat so if you get a hunter's mark on you you won't get hit. Then swim back to the beach by the entrance.

Yes I got killed A LOT doing the Iron Docks quest, but still managed to get through it - eventually.
So it's not impossible!
I think I was ilvl 580 ish at the time (only been playing WoD for a couple of weeks - stopped mid MoP)

Incredibly hard quest to solo especially as a cloth wearer. I hate this one.
