Best Azerite Powers for Guardian Druid
There are several Azerite traits to choose from, ranging from good to poor and situational. Below you will find a breakdown of all the different traits available to Guardian Druids, followed by a series of comparative simulations. Because item level dictates the strength of each Azerite bonus, your best setup may differ from what is ideal, but for Guardian, an ideal defensive Azerite setup will include 3x
and at least 1x
, the value of which comes from the additional chance to apply another
, which does not stack with multiple traits (although the bonus Agility does stack, so stacking does have some value). The final two powers are less important, but some good choices are
,
, or additional
s. You may also opt for some strong universal traits for more DPS (see the sims below).
For damage in dungeons, stack
traits in addition to
, for the highest potential multi-target DPS.
is specifically found on gear looted from The Eternal Palace, but it is by far the strongest single-target DPS trait available (it's even competitive in multitarget, behind only
and
Keep in mind that the non-class defensive powers on the middle and inner rings, such as
and
, are still very strong for tanking and can often be stronger than individual outer ring traits.

Season 2 Changes
With the start of Season 2 and the coming of Battle of Dazar'alor, pieces that previously had four rings will now have five. This new ring comes before the Ring 1 and offer two different spec traits for each specialization. Note that Items from Uldir weren't updated with this change.
Azerite traits are are divided into four rings found in your Azerite gear:
Ring 0
contains Spec traits and is the first section available on each item with two choices for each specialization. This ring is a new feature, found on Armor starting in
Season 2
, and requires only
15 levels
on your Heart of Azeroth to be unlocked.
Ring 1
contains Spec/Zone traits and is the second section available on each item and will likely be available to select as soon as you acquire a given piece of gear, contain traits based on your class specs and source of the trait.
Ring 2
contain Role traits, based on the roles your class can perform. It is only found on epic item level 340+ gear. Lower-level armor won't have this ring.
Ring 3
contains Defensive/Utility traits and is the last set of choices available in the piece;
Final Ring
always has
, which increases the item level of the armor piece it is in by 5 item level. The effect, in turn, increases the power from all previous rings.
Defensive Traits
The following are the recommended Azerite powers for Guardian Druids. Note that although Azerite powers scale with item level, it is unlikely that these traits will be surpassed in terms of their defensive and offensive capacity by anything other than a direct upgrade (that is, an item with the same trait but at a higher item level).
is a tremendous boost to your survivability, as far as Azerite powers go. Not only does it improve every
that you cast by increasing your Agility for every stack you have active, but it grants you additional stacks that increase your overall stack average and uptime throughout an encounter.
My personal favorite trait, the healing from this trait is amazing, if you can get 3 your healers will love you.
A nice consistent source of healing similar to
.
gives is a decent boost to your Agility with consistently high uptime on one target and scales very well into multiple targets.
This is quite strong on 1- 4 targets with around 30-50% uptime generally, a comfy burst of mastery every gore proc feels great.
has very high uptime, making it a consistent Armor increase with a small damage bonus.
,despite its low proc rate, is a very potent heal when it does proc.
/
/
provide a consistent (albeit low) amount of secondaries with no gimmicks, making them reliable for tanking purposes.
is very similar to
, but has much higher average Armor and additionally grants Avoidance.
Offensive Traits
The Bloodmallet charts below evaluate the offensive potential of each trait, without regard for their defensive benefits. Keep in mind that tuning is subject to change, and power value is dependent on item level, so your own individual gear, talents, and options available to you can lead to different results. As always, you should sim your own character for better accuracy.
Azerite Traits
Here is a listing of all Azerite traits available to Guardian Druids.
The following powers are available only to Guardian Druids, or are available to another Druid spec and can be selected by Guardians.
- This power grants a decent amount of Mastery, generally 30-50% uptime, not great above 4 targets since you no longer want to use mangle procs offensively.
- You can extend a single Frenzied Regeneration by up to 3 seconds maximum. Casting Mangle beyond that within the same Frenzied Regeneration (by being talented into
) will not further extend that heal. This trait is underwhelming in just about all situations.
- This power is quite strong in encounters with tank swaps, as it allows you to spend Rage offensively while ensuring you will have Ironfur up for when you taunt back. The flexibility that
provides makes it a very desirable choice.
- This power is extremely strong defensively, and you should always aim to have one on your gear.
- This power is decent while it is active, giving you some extra defensive power and essentially "extending" your Survival Instincts beyond its baseline duration. However, because Survival Instincts is used so few times in an encounter, this power provides little overall benefit.
- This power is quite strong both offensively and defensively, and scales very well with multiple targets (each enemy hit by Thrash has a chance to proc this effect). This is another must-have power.
- This is technically a Feral power that is selectable in Guardian, and is fairly strong for DPS, being about equal to or slightly better than
. It does not have any defensive benefit, however.
- This is only selectable in Balance spec but it will work if you switch back to Guardian after selecting it. Only the Moonfire component is relevant for Guardians. This is a very good trait for single and multi-dot fights, although it, like
has no defensive benefit.
- This trait is only selectable in Restoration spec but it will work if you switch back to Guardian after selecting it. You will also need to be talented into
in order to have Ysera's Gift available. This is a rather weak trait but it is a rather large boost to Ysera's Gift healing if you are already talented into Restoration Affinity.
The following powers are not Guardian-specific, but provide some sort of tanking benefit. These are typically worse than the Guardian specific offerings, unless stated.
8.2 Traits
(Azshara's Eternal Palace) - You (or one of your allies) have to die in order to activate the valuable part of this effect. Avoid this trait outside of specific strategies that revolve around it.
(Azshara's Eternal Palace) - This trait looks to be very strong offensively. The absorb is relatively minor on its own, but paired with the damage proc it's a nice bonus.
(Azshara's Eternal Palace) - Unfortunately this essence appears to be tuned for DPS and healers; tanks will have a much harder time activating this trait and as a result it is not very strong for us.
(Mechagon) - Grants flat secondary stats. Requires that you have a
equipped, and a Logic Board (Yellow Punch Card) slotted. This trait is quite strong if you can get your preferred secondary increased.
(Mechagon) - Very strong while the buff is up, but useless while it is down. The uncontrollable nature of this trait makes it unreliable for tanking, and should be avoided.
- This trait is very strong, but is no longer obtainable at a competitive item level. (exclusive to Battle of Dazar'alor gear)
- Although the buff while you're above 50% health is very strong, this trait is risky to use while tanking due to the increased damage taken at low health. It is no longer obtainable at a competitive item level. (exclusive to Battle of Dazar'alor gear)
- This trait is not very strong and is not recommended (exclusive to Battle of Dazar'alor gear).
- This is a decent trait, however it is only available to Alliance and only from the World Boss, and is therefore difficult to target farm.
- Chance to grant you Haste. The duration is refreshed if you kill an enemy. Works very well in some encounters and m+ specifically.
- Chance to grant you Critical Strike.
- Chance to grant you a buff that increases all of your secondaries stacking up to 4 stacks.
- Chance to drain your target's health.
- Occasionally increase your Mastery and the Mastery of 2 nearby allies for 20 seconds.
- Chance to deal Arcane damage split among enemies, and to apply an amount of healing split among injured allies (exclusive to Uldir gear).
- When you cast 3 different spells after proccing this buff, you gain Haste.
- Chance to spawn a droplet nearby that when collected increases your Agility.
- Chance to grant you Critical Strike. Dealing critical strikes extend the duration of the buff.
- Chance to grant you Mastery. When the buff expires, it jumps to a nearby enemy.
- Chance to spawn a pool that increases your Agility while you are in it.
Engineering Traits
These powers are only found on engineering crafted helmets.
- Chance to gain either Agility and health, or Haste and movement speed.
- Chance to cause your target to pulse damage to nearby enemies and cause them to deal reduced damage to you.
PvP and Warfront Traits
These powers are only found on gear awarded through PvP activities, objectives, or within Warfronts. While the powers work in PvE, they are stronger in PvP combat.
/
- A fairly standard primary stat proc that is guaranteed to proc if an ally of your faction dies nearby.
/
- Chance to drop a Banner, increasing the primary stat and health of you and 4 allies for 6 seconds.
/
- Chance to gain Mastery and absorb damage. Being attacked by a member of the opposite faction can also proc this.
The following powers are not Guardian-specific and do not provide any tanking benefit. Ideally you should avoid these if at all possible.
- This could be quite a good pickup, corruption will almost always be high enough and will be worth nearly 400 secondary stats.
- Your damage abilities have a chance to deal Plague damage over time, and your heals have a chance to heal an additional amount over time. Only available to Horde.
- Has a chance to apply a stacking bleed, that stacks faster if attacking from behind.
- Chance to deal Physical damage and apply a bleed.
- Chance to deal Shadow damage over time to your target.
- Chance to deal Nature damage that ramps up to 5 stacks and then resets.
- Chance to deal Frost damage and slow your target.
Engineering Traits
These powers are only found on engineering crafted helmets.
- Deals damage to all enemies in an area around the target.
- Chance to deal Fire damage to up to 4 enemies.
PvP and Warfront Traits
These powers are only found on gear awarded through PvP activities, objectives, or within Warfronts. While the powers work in PvE, they are stronger in PvP combat.
/
- Applies a debuff to your target that causes them to take more damage from the next 20 attacks, or more if the target is a member of the opposite faction.
/
- Chance to buff you and your allies' Attack Power/Spell Power.
These powers all add some sort of defensive, mobility, or healing bonus.
Druid Traits
These powers are only available to Druids. Generally, these are worse for tanking than the strong generic traits.
Engineering Traits
These powers are only found on engineering crafted helmets.
There is only ever a single power at the center, which increases the item level of the piece of gear. Because the strength of Azerite Powers scale with item level, this also makes them slightly more powerful.
Azerite Power Rotation Changes for Guardian Druid
While Azerite powers are not as impactful as Legendaries were in Legion, some still can change rotations substantially.
If you have
, you will want to follow every
cast immediately with a
. If you are also talented into
, you will want to activate it before using Frenzied Regeneration, and then cast Mangle in order to extend the heal further.
Although
does not change the priority of any abilities, you should be aware of the additional chance to reset the cooldown on
.
BiS Azerite Armor Combinations
Here is a list of a few Battle for Azeroth pieces with Guardian traits to look for. Note that you can have the same traits in multiple pieces and their effects will stack up to three times. The power listing here is based on all items having an equal item level. Remember that item level can often be a larger increase than a better set of traits.
Starting in Season 2, you are able to obtain six different spec traits in your Azerite Armor, with the addition of the new ring.
In many cases, it will be important for you to have a wide variety of pieces with those traits, as they can have different values depending on what content you are doing, like Raids, Mythic+ or PvP.

Buying Azerite with Titan Residuum
If you are buying specific Azerite pieces with Residuum, the following combination is recommended:
Head
-
(
,
)
Shoulder
-
(
,
)
Chest
-
(
,
)
Keep in mind that if you do not have all three, alternative trait selections or different pieces altogether may be preferable. For example, you should prioritize having a
trait over acquiring a specific recommended piece, if you don't already have one.
Finding Azerite Armor
Unlike other sources of gear, Azerite Armor isn't fully available in every game activity. While you can obtain it normally on non-keystone Dungeons and World Quests, there are only a handful of sources after that point for higher item level Azerite gear:
Periodic Emissary Caches, scaling with player item level up to 445.
Personal Loot Drops from The Eternal Palace, up to 445 on Mythic difficulty.
Personal Loot Drops from Ny'alotha, the Waking City, up to 485 on Mythic difficulty.
Weekly PvP Ranking Rewards, up to 475 at 2100+ (Duelist or higher rank)
Random or specific Azerite pieces from
, at the expense of
.
None of these sources are really farmable and Azerite Armor cannot Titanforge, so it's difficult to target specific bonuses; generally higher item level is Azerite pieces are better. The best way to guarantee desired traits is to complete the highest Mythic+ Keystone possible to receive as much
from your weekly chest in order to buy specific Azerite Armor pieces from
.

When you use a Gore proc, you gain Mastery and have a chance to immediately re-activate Gore. This power suffers from the fact that Gore procs are quite rare already, and the additional Mastery does not last for very long.
Wow, did you ever test it in the PTR ? Because I was getting a proc nearly every 2 to 10 seconds, 10 seconds is the max it's usually 2 to 6 seconds and when it procs immediately from the effect of this trait you can hold it until the buff expires to get the buff again. I was testing this for a few days it wasn't just a luck. If you have enough haste gore procs are not quite rare.

Awesome guide, thank you.
Does the 10% chance for an extra stack of Ironfur from Layered mane stack with additional items with the same trait? If I have a head and chest both with Layered Mane do I have a 10%, 20%, or 21% (110*1.1) chance for getting an extra stack of Ironfur?

I notice that even when the guide is not updated correctly to the 8.2 patch you are making a mistake when telling what piece to buy with Residium. The problem is you are showing 2 options that are only available in raid thus you cannot buy them. Also when showing
潮汐之母的护额
you recommend using
羁绊之魂
when in my opionion and also after your comments on each azerite trait, I would personally recommend using
层叠鬃毛
. I'm still seeing the same unaccuracies i saw and the guide you make for 8.1.
Edit: Also, why are you telling that
死亡蹒跚者的肩饰
is a BiS when you are already giving 2 options that are better for that slot.
