Holy Priest Strengths and Weaknesses in Torghast
As a healer, you are naturally privileged in both the Twisting Corridors and the regular Torghast wings: much like Battle for Azeroth Visions, mobs have less health and deal less damage to healers when they solo content!
On top of this, the amount of control you normally have is compounded by some game-changing anima powers: reduced cooldown on fear or fade with damage bonuses to follow along with some decent covenant-specific powers.
All is not roses, however. Most of the best builds revolve around Epic Powers so early on you may be forced to take things very slowly to farm additional phantasm to help put together a more effective late-game build.
Finally, we have a few routes to take with epics powers. A lot of them revolve around combining powers together, and it feels
awful
to miss the capstone in a build. Like receiving multiple
渐隐术
cooldown reductions but missing the damage bonus epic. You can strike gold and have a breezy run early with
爆裂幻影
but in other cases you can miss it completely which feels poor.
Navigating the Twisting Corridors as a Holy Priest
Solo Holy Priest in Torghast
Your playstyle as a Holy Priest is very straightforward: don't pull too big, look for a
爆裂幻影
,
宣泄之杖
,
创伤天平
along the way if you get lucky with an Epic power, and climb the floors one by one, making sure to grab every single anima power along the way. Climbing slowly at first will be extremely helpful for having a more consistent build but does not always guarantee you get the powerrs that you want.
You'll no doubt find many enemies you can
束缚亡灵
. In particular, look out for Runecarved mobs, as they do a ton of damage and have an AoE fear.
精神控制
kills with
傀儡师之线
can be really nice if the Wing is filled with Lords of Torment or other dangerous high health foes.
Beyond that, Torghast is very similar to normal questing gameplay for a Holy Priest, except that the spec feels
way
better and more fun with some anima powers, to the point that we wish some of them were available outside of it.
Group Delving
Your role in Torghast while in a group will be very similar to the one you undertake in Mythic+: add damage in free time, look to help the team with crowd control as needed and keep the team alive. You may opt for more health bonuses for your team to make healing easier like
附魔遮罩
,
真言术:偎
, or
厚麻腰带
. The mob health and damage scales based on group size and composition, so more health is helpful and powers like
警觉圣火虫
may not be as helpful when you play with a tank but a power like
瓶装谜团
is excellent in groups or solo content. Coordinating with your group to accelerate the runs is also important as some players on your team may be able to build more to kill bosses or elites or choose to do more damage to floor trash. Communicating when you can take more trash centric buffs like
鼓胀饲料
can be extremely helpful so your teammates can join you or adjust their builds as desired.
Best Torghast Holy Priest Talents
The build you will be using in Torghast is similar to the build you normally run in questing content or dungeons.
光明尾迹
will likely see more play in group play and
心灵之声
is also a very competitive option.
There are some anima powers granting you access to a 2nd talent but these are generally low priority picks except for
心灵之声
.
Covenant-Specific Information for Holy Priest in Torghast
Kyrian
Kyrian Holy Priest gain access to a host of fun and powerful bonuses to their Boon:
羽化禁锢
is a substantial damage bonus but with a tradeoff.
蒂固誓言
applies DoTs to all enemies struck by your Nova cast heavily increasing your AoE damage.
二次合唱
easy cooldown reduction.
谦逊火炬
longer duration!
Overall, some good synergy with other anima powers like
痛苦之轮
or
趁热打心
and solid additional damage.
Venthyr
耳虫
low % chance, I rarely notice when it procs when soloing as Mindgames usually decimates enemies already.
控心师手套
faster cast and greater damage.
碎裂的心灵尖啸者
fairly useful bonus to have on hand when dealing with multiple elite enemies that have nasty casts.
Venthyr offers very little divergence in play in Torghast, with one big catch: some ledges that were previously out of reach can be safely reached with Door to Shadow. Due to this, however, it may take a minute of AFK to get
back
from such a ledge teleport (as some of them have a gap in between), or two if you manage to also snag a copy of
敞开之门
or
多节钥匙
.
Necrolord
For class abilities you get access to
玛尔多的灵魂引爆者
offering some excellent spam Novas which can chain off each other!
Necrolords gain access to a
ridiculously strong
anima power:
易爆血肉
.
This effectively turns each Fleshcraft tick into a bomb. You, quite literally, start channeling in the middle of packs, and watch as they essentially kill themselves on it.
Even better: channel Fleshcraft fully, then walk into a boss and watch it detonate. On floors with Mawrats, you can even use
污秽恐怖的腿骨
to get a 50% shield (and therefore 100% of your max HP in damage to everything when it breaks).
Still not satisfied?
秘制香料
for a bonus 100% max HP, and the stackable Obleron endurances (
奥伯勒隆之耐
,
奥伯勒隆之耐x2
,
奥伯勒隆之耐x2
) for even more!
Night Fae
Not much to talk about as the class ability is heavily based on group play in a Torghast scenario.
法夜赐福灯笼
follows this trend following your
能量灌注
target to further bolster their damage and healing.
Best Anima Power Builds for Holy Priest
Mind Control Central
A fairly flexible build to help clear trash more effectively that often doesn't age well when going into the final boss,
精神控制
tech! This build is definitely slower than AoEing enemies down with other options listed below but is very safe and helpful for taking out multiple high level foes.
傀儡师之线
the foundational power. While you can
精神控制
many enemies early on, they often can get killed quickly if you don't have this damage buff to kill other enemies first.
快速传染
paired with
极为诱人的奶酪
and
鼓胀饲料
produces some insanely large quantities of mawrats that will easily mop up packs. You can also pair it with
创伤天平
and
秘制香料
to rapidly increase your max health and potential Scales damage.
精神控制
offers good flexibility throughout Torghast. Whether you want to hard-commit to that build or use it for some maw rat support early on they're generally good powers to watch for.
Fade (God Build)
This build is extremely simple but also insanely powerful.
爆裂幻影
The must have. When soloing gives enemies a different target to hit that explodes on its death.
渊黯碎片
cooldown reduction! It's really that simple
When paired together you can pretty much just spam
渐隐术
the entire instance and let your copies kill everything. No other powers are really needed to be successful with this setup.
Flash Heal and Holy (hell)Fire
There are a ton of powers available to buff
神圣之火
and
快速治疗
!
创伤天平
offer some immediate boosts to taking heavier amounts of damage and can easily decimate priority targets.
吞噬叠唱
,
神圣地狱之石
,
心灵脉冲
, and
圣火饮剂
offers consistent damage increases and helps with hitting multiple enemies at once.
扩容箱
and
闪回专注
offer some great improvements to your self healing which followed by
灼热灯笼
makes it much easier to down enemies while still supporting yourself.
惊魂词典
,
死亡收割者
,
痛灭圣歌
,
痛苦之轮
all have some solid support but don't make or break any builds.

I've never even seen some of these powers, like holy hellstone. Every run the only power I care about are Volatile Phantasm and Fragments of Obscurity. Am I wrong or does having higher HP cause the Volatile Phantasm to do more damage?

Another fun build is increased HP, Bigger shields, and stacking shield reflect. Having massive shield and reflecting 150% of the damage dealt to you is so overpowered. Just PW Shield and watch the mobs kill themselves.

Horrific Dictionary is among our most powerful abilities, especially in Twisting Corridors. It definitely shouldn't be treated as bottom tier. We can get 8 stacks on Holy (with Salvation talent) and then add two more on 3/6/9/12/15/18 by swapping to Discipline briefly. (the 11th requires entering combat, which would sadly remove the zone for changing specs) That's 40-50% buff to intelligence per stack of the Anima Power. I have yet to see any power tempt me away from Horrific Dictionary, because main stat not only buffs our defensive and offensive abilities, but it ties into a number of other anima powers.

Just finished soloing all 8 layers of TC as an ilvl 193 holy priest, so I thought I'd provide some encouragement for anyone else thinking about it--you can do it!
I've never beat layer 6+ of normal Torghast. So if you have trouble there, you might still be ok in Twisting Corridors, because there's so much more time to get an unbeatable build.
Every layer was generally 2 to 2.5 hours long.
Each layer didn't feel that much harder than the previous layer. So if you're having trouble on, say, layer 4, don't assume you shouldn't do layer 5 (I almost stopped because my layer 4 was very hard). It's all random. It's just what anima powers you get.
A layer generally starts off hard in floors 1-6, and slowly gets easier. (Unless you don't get the powers you need, in which case, it gets harder.)
I only had 1 death in all of the layers, it was falling off of a chain.
My only failed attempt (besides floor 1 restarts) was a Layer 8 attempt, where I just didn't have enough damage--I was 3 hours in and only at floor 14, and decided to just put the run out of its misery. Although who knows, maybe I could have pulled it off.
Here are my strategy notes for
starting
a run:
Keep rebooting the instance until you get
Horrific Dictionary
at the start (+5% int for each "word" spell). It will only take 1 to 15 restarts or so. You need this to make the first few floors not be super slow.
As suggested by others, as soon as you get Horrific Dictionary, swap to Disc for a sec, and cast those two word spells. (Sometimes it won't let you do it at the start of the instance. That's ok, you can surely make it to the floor 3 vendor, and do it then.) (If you ever need to go AFK, don't forget to come back and cast a "word" spell every minute or so, or you'll lose those Disc "word" stacks.)
If you finish floor 1 with only two anima powers, just restart. That's not fair. You should have like 4-7 powers after floor 1. There are some terrible tiny Mort'regar floors.
None of the different "themes" matter for this spec, don't worry about those very much. Coldheart Interstitia is a little annoying to start with I guess, since everything gets more HP for the rest of the layer.
Here are my notes about our most important combo, IMO:
The ultimate combo is the epic
Painbreaker Psalm
(shadow word death consumes the target's shadow word pain, and deals all its damage instantly) with lots of stacks of
Painwheel
(+damage on shadow word pain). This combo does fantastic damage, especially on elites and bosses. Every time Death is off cooldown, do another Pain, then another Death.
Painwheel is very common so it's easy to get 5-10 stacks of it.
The ultimate combo is even better if you get a lot of stacks of
Cruelty Censer
(+dmg if enemy is stunned/feared/etc). You can then easily hit for 250k each time you do the combo, or even more.
Painwheel in general is good enough that's worth buying whenever you see it on a vendor, even if you haven't found Painbreaker Psalm yet. Cruelty Censer, almost as good, but kinda pricey.
Painbreaker Psalm I probably got in 50% of runs, not too rare.
Mawrat Bag also combos well here.
Here are my
general
strategy notes:
Horrific Dictionary
(+5% int for each "word" spell) is always our most important anima power. The more you get this power, the easier the layer will be. I got 8 stacks of it once, and was unbelievably OP. But even if you only get 4 stacks, it's so nice. 1-3 stacks is a bit low, that's a bad run.
Damage powers are the most important. Your damage determines if you beat a layer or not. You don't want to deal with boss mechanics and Elite mechanics. If you don't kill bosses quickly, they're gonna get so many enrage stacks that they'll one shot you. Even worse: there are elites and bosses that can slowly heal themselves, and you can't reliably interrupt that sort of thing too well. You MUST kill things so fast that the mechanics and enrage stacks don't come into play.
If you do have to deal with a miniboss in Soulforges that heals itself, and you don't have the damage to kill it anyway, do this: wait until it starts
channeling
the heal,
then
Fear or Chastise. If you do it
during
their cast, they can simply cast it again, so that's bad. Wait until they're channeling. (It's called Inner Flames?)
The combo with
Volatile Phantasm
(fade generates a dummy for enemies to hit) and
Fragments of Obscurity
(lower cooldown on fade) is indeed very good. However, you don't need to try super hard to get it. I got the full combo on every single one of my TC runs, even when I would skip Fragments of Obscurity several times. It's a good combo, it keeps your run alive longer. Unfortunately, in high layers, enemies kill the Phantasm very quickly, then turn back to you. And spellcasters often ignore the phantasm and just shoot you, especially boss spellcasters. So it's good, but it's not quite enough to guarantee you'll beat the last boss.
You do want to get some HP upgrades--enemies do start hitting pretty hard toward the end. Damage is more important, but HP is nice, to keep you alive until you find your next damage upgrade. If you can get to 100k HP by the end of a layer, that's good. 200k HP is fantastic. Try to get all the +15% hp upgrades you see, all the general Fortitude upgrades you see, etc.
Underrated: the anima power that makes your Power Word: Shield stronger is actually awesome, buy it at every vendor. If you get like 3-5 stacks, and have a lot of health, it'll be like 50k HP of shield. That's technically better than health, because it comes back every 5 seconds (as long as you recast it). You're basically unkillable. (Unless your damage is poor and the boss/elite has a self-heal, or gets too many enrage stacks.)
Underrated:
Lens of Elchaver
is secretly amazing (every time you crit an enemy, an arcane bolt comes down dealing more damage). It doesn't sound that good at first because the damage looks low, but the damage scales with your int . So it totally keeps up with you. I got it on Layer 1 and Layer 8 and they ended up being my most fun layers, as even elites would constantly have their health bars explode from these crits. Honestly I'm not sure why, math wise, this power works so well. Maybe because when DOT ticks crit, this power still triggers? And there are so many DOT crits? If you combo this with the anima power that makes the initial dmg of SW:Pain always crit, it's extremely fun. Or just any +crit powers.
There's a really good anima power that makes enemies randomly get stunned from holy damage. This is great. It constantly gets triggered.
Talents: Don't matter much, but I recommend the talent that gives -30s cooldown to fear. But if you find the Anima Power that lets you get that talent, that's awesome, because you can now also get Censure which lets Chastise stun, and now you have two ways to get Cruelty Censer damage.
If you need stay in combat, don't kill mawrats. Just let them chase you forever.
I never did any Mind Control stuff, and I play Kyrian, but the Kyrian anima powers suck.

I just finished Twisting Corridors layer 8 solo as Holy Priest with ilvl 202. I find it is actually easier to solo than to run with a group. My run had
灵魂熔炉
,
上层区域
and
断骨密室
(in that order) with
蠕动魂集
as last boss. I was able to three-shot the last boss with my anima powers build. I had 1M stored damage from floor 17 so feared boss and hit him with Holy Fire and then Shadow Word: Pain. Let the boss hit me so I can charge Scales of Trauma with Flash Heals. Feared him again and hit him with Holy Fire and he was dead on the floor with the
回廊潜行猎犬
in my bag. With this build, incoming damage is my friend. The
折磨:灵魂熔炉之灼
(I think I was maxed at 10% constant fire damage) ensures I always have damage stored from my heals and was able to one-shot elites!
创伤天平
x 2 - damage stored from healing done by Flash Heal/Heal (400% of max health)
宣泄之杖
x 2 - damage stored from damage taken (not sure if it scales with HP)
厚麻腰带
x 10 - more HP (100% stamina)
奥伯勒隆之耐
x 10 - more HP ( 150% max health)
残酷香炉
x 5 - damage scales when enemies are feared (175% more damage)
哀嚎幻象
x 5 - longer duration of fear (28secs almost nonstop fear)
灵能钱包
x 4 - drops roughly 60 Phantasma for every mind control (I had 3k phantasma extra after the run and 9 deaths available)
爆裂幻影
x 1 - not useful on boss and elites that aoe but perfect for those group of wards and skeletons
I purchased
须臾狂乱药水
early on from broker and saved for floor 18 (30% increased damage). I wanted to have
无限荣光之圣言
as I had it on lower layers and it procs a lot but not lucky enough to see it.
