The Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar consists of 5 objectives and is filled with dangerous creatures that will drain your sanity. Learn about the objectives, the dangerous abilities and the bosses in each zone to prepare for your run through the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar.
Overview of the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar
The Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar consists of 5 objectives, 1 objective for each area of Orgrimmar.
Your main objective is to defeat
located inside Grommash Hold in the Valley of Strength. Doing so will immediately end the Horrific Vision.
You are free to venture into the other districts to complete side objectives for increased rewards, however It is recommended that you have ranked up your cloak as well as having some titanic research upgrades before attempting additional objectives.
Horrific Visions consist of 3 tiers of areas that the player can explore.
Every week,
one
city is available to queue: either Stormwind or Orgrimmar. Players cannot chose which city they wish to run. Interacting with the gateway in the Chamber of Heart will let you know ahead of time what Horrific Vision is available this week. You can also view the map when you first enter the vision to find out which vision you are about to do.
Tainted Areas in the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar
The "Twisted Area" of a Horrific Vision is the first tier and the area that players start when entering a Horrific Vision. Twisted Areas are generally easier than the others because they have the lowest passive sanity drain and the madness affixes that exist in these areas provide to be more of a minor nuisance and relatively neutral in terms of difficulty.
Possible Madness Affixes in Twisted Areas
Madness Affix
Description
Your spells and abilities cause you to shift between fast time and slow time. Fast time causes time to pass 30% faster, speeding up buff and debuff timers and causing you to cast, attack, and move faster.
Periodically you will damage all allies and enemies nearby and heal yourself for a small amount based on how many targets you hit.
Periodically summons a zone of power. Standing in it will increase damage dealtt by 25%. Failing to stand in it will reduce your damagee dealth by 10%.
Valley of Strength in the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar

Players begin the Horrific Vision in the Valley of Strength, just inside the gates to Orgrimmar.
Objective
Defeat
Collect Reward and exit vision
The main objective of the vision is to defeat
located inside Grommash Hold in the center of the valley.
Doing so will immediately end the Horrific Vision and teleport you out to collect your rewards.
This will happen regardless of how many other objectives you still have yet to complete.
Access to Grommash Hold is walled off until you defeat the 2 guards standing in front of the entrance to the hold. After they are defeated, enter the hold and you'll find Thrall. Defeat him and you will complete the vision objective and MOTHER will teleport you to safety.
Thrall gains 10% increased health and an additional ability for each bonus objective completed.

Abilities
- Thrall jumps into the center of the room and then causes the center or outer edge of the room to erupt with void energy first then followed by the opposite. Deals massive shadow damage and drains 60 Sanity to players hit.
- Slams a small area in front, stunning all players for 2 seconds and draining 30 Sanity.
Hard Mode Abilities
- At 55% remaining health, Thrall begins casting
, creating an absorb shield for 25% of his maximum health. When this 6 second cast completes, the shield explodes and inflicts shadow and Sanity damage to all players based on the remaining value of the shield.
Thrall gains
if players have completed The Drag objective prior to engaging him.
- At 80% and 40% remaining health, Thrall casts
. This will silence all players for 10 seconds or until the player runs over a golden orb spawned nearby.

accompany Thrall at the beginning of the encounter. The Void Boars cast
at random players, dealing high shadow damage and draining 30 Sanity.

Corrupted Areas in the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar
The 2nd tier of areas players can explore is the "Corrupted Area". These areas are more difficult than the starting area as the passive sanity drain for being in the area increases, and the madness affixes actively make your exploration more difficult.
These areas are the first you will want to explore after having obtained a few Rank ups on your cloak and some Titanic Research upgrades. I recommend you do not enter these areas until you have ranked up your cloak to Rank 3 or have the first Titanic Research upgrade.
Possible Madness Affixes in Corrupted Areas
Madness Affix
Description
While in combat, you gain stacks of a debuff representing the amount of bugs on you. After reaching 5 stacks, you will be forced to run forward for 5 seconds. Jumping removes stacks.
Occasionally summons a shadowy vision of yourself that will pursue you. If it touches you, you will take heavy shadow damage and be stunned for 4 seconds.
Occasionally you feel hot, causing your movement to force you to leap over a pool of fire. This pool of fire then becomes an obstacle that will deal damage and drain sanity of players that stand in it.
The Drag in the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar

The Drag
is a Corrupted Area of the vision of Orgrimmar and is one of the first bonus objective areas players can try to complete. This area will start to award cloak upgrade items for cloak Ranks 6+.
You'll quickly encounter
who has nearly killed Garona. Defeat Lak'hal and then speak with Garona to begin the next step.
Once you've rescued Garona, you'll have to clear all enemies along The Drag and search the shops along the way for survivors. The buildings you need to search are barricaded, break the barricades and Garona will help anyone inside to safety.
After you've cleared the last of the buildings, you'll encounter
, who has the last of the survivors captive. He is the "boss" of this area. Defeat him will successfully complete the objective for The Drag and earn you an additional chest at the end of the vision.

Abilities
- Channels a beam of void energy that follows the target, inflicting shadow damage and pushing all players in the beam away.
- Launches an orb forward, periodically exploding for high shadow damage and draining 60 Sanity from players in the effect.

Inquisitor Gnshal is the final objective of The Drag objective, only becoming active after players have finished searching all of the buildings for survivors with Garona.
Abilities
- At 65% and 30% remaining health, Gnshal casts
, gaining a shield that absorbs up to 25% of maximum health. If the shield remains after 6 seconds, players take shadow and Sanity damage based on the remaining value of the shield.
- Launches several void missiles at targets. Players who come into contact with them are launched into the air, stunned, take shadow damage and drained of 30 Sanity every second for 4 seconds.

The Valley of Spirits is a tier 2 area of Orgrimmar, and in my opinion is the easiest of all areas in Orgrimmar. You'll get cloak upgrades from this area once your cloak is Rank 6+.
You'll meet up with Zekhan immediately, you'll need to help him clear the way to the Valley of Spirits by defeating the enemies he is fighting and killing
.
Once
is defeated, the barrier blocking entry into the Valley of Spirits will be cleared and you can proceed.
Inside you'll have to rescue 4 shamans being held captive by corrupted totems. To free them, kill the enemies near the corrupted totem and then interact with the totem to destroy it. You'll have to work your way through the valley and rescue the captives in order.
After rescuing the last captive, you'll need to defeat the
awaiting you at the end of the Valley of Spirits. This is the "boss" of this area and defeating him will successfully complete the Valley of Spirits bonus objective and earn you an extra chest at the end of the vision.

Decimator Shiq'voth's defeat is required to gain access to the Valley of Spirits.
Abilities
- Charges towards a player, dealing physical damage and knocking back all players along the way.
- Launches a bolt of void energy forward, dealing a small amount of shadow damage. It then returns back to Shq'voth empowered, dealing massive shadow damage, draining 120 Sanity and knocking all players in the path of its return.
Base Health: 700K
Abilities
At 80% and 40% remaining health, the Oblivion Elemental casts
, silencing all players for 10 seconds or until they run over a golden orb spawned nearby.
While in combat, the Oblivion Elemental summons waves of shadow that travel in random directions. Coming into contact with the waves deals shadow damage, stuns the player, and drains Sanity.
Lost Areas in the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar
The "Lost Areas" of a Horrific Vision make up the 3rd tier of area. They are also the most difficult areas to explore with several elites that players have to contend with and a high rate of passive sanity drain. In addition, the madness affixes can cause some very difficult situations, especially with some of the mechanics on the elites.
It is highly recommended you only attempt Lost Areas after having upgraded your cloak to Rank 5 and you have at least 1-2 Sanity Orbs to spare.
Possible Madness Affixes in Lost Areas

Description
Occasionally you are encircled by images of yourself, with only 1 section of the circle free for you to escape. Touching one of the images will disorient you for 6 seconds.
Moving in combat will quickly slow your movement speed until you are immobile. You regain the ability to move as you stay stationary.
Occasionally players create a shadow image of themselves at their current location. After 4 seconds, that image explodes, forcing all nearby players to run in fear.
Valley of Honor in the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar

Objectives
Defeat
The Valley of Honor is a tier 3 area of Orgrimmar and is potentially one of the most dangerous areas of the vision. You'll get cloak upgrades from this area after reaching Rank 12+
The Valley of Honor only has 1 objective, to defeat
located at the hunter's ring in the valley. The exact path you take up there is up to you as you can certainly try to avoid as many enemies as possible.
Misha however will be the very first enemy blocking your way, just at the entrance of the Valley of Honor. While its technically not required to kill her to complete the objective, there's no easy way to get by her without fighting, so defeat her to move on.
The entire Valley of Honor is swarmed with Aqir, pick and choose your pulls and clear a way to the road leading up to the hunter's ring. You'll encounter the Aqir Mindhunter elite along that road, however this elite can be skipped with stealth or careful movement.
Finally, once at the top, you'll reach Rexxar who awaits you inside the arena.
The fight with Rexxar is very dangerous.
He'll summon 4 adds as his health diminishes:

. Each of these have a decent amount of health and cast
which deal a decent amount of damage and drain Sanity. You'll want to be very well prepared before taking him on.
Defeating Rexxar is the only objective in this area, so killing him will complete the Valley of Honor bonus objective and earn you an extra chest at the end of the vision.

Misha is the first enemy you will encounter entering the Valley of Honor. While optional, she blocks the pathway and does have truesight, making it difficult to sneak by her.
Abilities
- Infects a player with a disease that deals nature damage and leaves a toxic pool at their location every 3 seconds for 9 seconds.
inflicts addition nature damage and drains 30 Sanity every 2 seconds to players standing within it.
- Inflicts massive shadow damage and drains 120 Sanity to players within 9 yards of Misha. In addition, those players hit are hostile to allies for 8 seconds.
When Misha dies, several
spawn from her corpse.

Rexxar is found in the Hunter's Hall, you must remain in the area or the encounter will reset.
Abilities
At the start of the encounter, Rexxar launches several
s at locations around the room that will persist until the end of the fight. Walking over one of these will deal shadow damage, drain 120 Sanity, and stun the player for 4 seconds.
Rexxar is accompanied by 4 Void Boars that charge the player and join the fight as Rexxar loses health. The Void Boars cast
while active, dealing shadow damage and draining 30 Sanity. Interruptible.
At 40% remaining health, Rexxar casts
, summoning minions of N'zoth that travel in a line across the room. Coming into contact with one of these minions will inflict shadow damage and drain 60 Sanity.

Objectives
Defeat enemies in the Valley of Wisdom (Progress Bar)
Defeat
The Valley of Wisdom is a tier 3 area of the vision of Orgrimmar. You'll receive cloak upgrades from this area at Rank 12+.
Your first objective is very straight forward, simply kill enough enemies in the Valley of Wisdom to fill the progress bar. You'll have to kill almost every enemy so don't worry too much about what to pull and what not to pull.
There are 2 elites, both on opposite ends of the Valley of Wisdom. Defeating both of them will give 50% progress on the progress bar (each is 25%).
will be on the left side of the Valley of Wisdom as you enter and
will be far off to the right as you enter.
Once you reach 100% progress bar, the "boss" of this area will spawn.
will patrol towards the central crossroads of the valley and wait for you. Defeat him to complete the objective of the Valley of Wisdom and earn an additional chest at the end of the vision.

Killing the
is not required, however doing so gives 25% progress towards Step 1 of the Valley of Wisdom objective.
Abilities
- Tosses the target player to a distant area, inflicting 40 Sanity damage immediately. Then begins to leap towards that player's location. Upon impact, deals massive physical damage and drains 60 Sanity to any player in the impact area.
- Deals minor physical damage to all enemies and interrupts any spellcasting, locking players out of that school for 4 seconds.
Base Health: 971.3K
Killing the
is not required, however doing so gives 25% progress towards Step 1 of the Valley of Wisdom objective.
Abilities
- Launches blood at all player locations, creating a pool of blood that inflicts shadow damage and drains 30 Sanity every 1 seconds. The Coagulated Horror is healed for 100% of the damage dealt by the pool.
- Spits blood in a frontal cone, dealing shadow damage and draining 60 Sanity to all players hit.
Base Health: 1.46M
Vez'okk the Lightless will spawn in once enough enemies in the Valley of Wisdom have been defeated.
Abilities
- Charges up void energy that strikes in a line in front of Vez'okk, draining 60 Sanity and stunning all players hit for 3 seconds
At 80%, 50% and 30% remaining health, Vez'okk casts
at a player. This inflicts shadow damage, drains 60 Sanity and knocks players in the area of effect back. In addition this summons several
to attack players.
- Summons a ring of void spheres around Vez'okk, after a short delay, these spheres will move outwards. Coming into contact with these spheres at any point will inflict shadow damage, drain 60 Sanity and stun the first player hit for 3 seconds.
Unique Rewards from the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar
Stormwind and Orgrimmar have unique collectibles, so you will need to run both in order to collect all the mounts, pets and toys. Here are the unique items from the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar:

Step-By-Step Route
It is recommended your

Clear towards the front of Grommash Hold and kill the 2 guards in front to open the entryway into the hold. Don't go inside yet however, head to the right of the hold and towards The Drag first.
Enter The Drag and complete its objective. You'll have to kill all enemies along the path and escort Garona Halforcen to check all the buildings for survivors.
Once you've checked all the buildings, there is a bit of roleplay before the boss becomes attackable. This is a good time to take a second to use
if you got them.
After completing The Drag objective, head straight towards
The Valley of Honor
The Valley of Honor only has one objective, so it is completely up to you on the path you want to take. You can sneak around many of the enemies here, but some have stealth detection and others are hiding in the corpses of dead Orgrimmar grunts. Make your way to the other end of the Valley of Honor to reach
.
is a very difficult boss, having more health than most other bosses. Make sure to control and kill the boars he sends out at you, as they deal a lot of damage and cast
which will drain your Sanity rapidly. Defeat
to finish this area.
Use the Wind Totem located outside of the arena you just fought in for a quick and perfectly safe travel back to the starting area. When you land, this time head left of Grommash Hold and up the ramps towards the west section of Orgrimmar. Help Zekhan and the other shamans just past the barrier.
After defeating
, you have a free choice on which area you want to do here first. I prefer doing the
Valley of Wisdom
first, as there is a small delay before the firewall towards
Valley of Spirits
is lowered to let you pass.
Go to the
Valley of Wisdom
, the path to the right where you fought
and enter. This objective requires you to kill a ton of enemies. There is a miniboss on each end of the Valley and they give 25% count towards the progress bar so make sure to kill them both. In total you can skip one pack of enemies, I prefer to not kill the group with 2
as their
is deadly.
After you fill the progress bar, kill the boss that spawns and you're finished here. Backtrack towards where you entered the valley from until you reach the tunnel entrance to the
Valley of Spirits
.
You will need to fight your way through the
Valley of Spirits
to complete its objective. Free the 5 shamans which are all along the path to the left when you enter. After you free all the shamans, you do NOT need to pull the 2 larger enemies before the
. These can be skipped by stealthing between them and the building or going all the way around to the right of the building. Kill the
.
With all 4 bonus objectives complete, hurry inside
Grommash Hold
(the path should be clear). Be very careful as Thrall will be much more difficult due to completing all of the objectives. He will have 2 Void Boars with him that should be interrupted and killed as fast as possible.
Save cooldowns or immunities when he reaches 55%, as Thrall will put up a massive shield that will deal heavy damage and Sanity damage to you if you don't do enough damage to it. Defeat Thrall to end the vision.

This would look really fun if you weren’t behind a timegated resource and failing didn’t mean missing out on a mandatory (For high end content) cloak upgrade for the week. Kinda feel pressured to just go straight for the boss until the cloak is upgraded fully. Maybe bringing along a full group of randoms to doubly make sure I don’t miss out on the cloak.

This is a great guide, I love it. There is one thing I'd love for you to do, and that's a trash mob guide. When a friend was telling me how to run these he broke it down nice and easy. "In the Drag, kill these mobs first, their spell such and such damages sanity, or stuns, or fears, or does this bad thing." For instance, there's something in the aqir pulls in Valley of Honor that's stunning me, so I get caught by other things, and I don't know what.

The quick tip about the Desynchronized affix. It swaps phase each 5 of your casts (whether instant such as Arcane Intellect or casted/channeled). So you can adjust the phase to your liking before Thrall or pulling masses.

Just a tip that I have found, maybe true, or then again maybe I'm just not very good!
If you are a DPS/Melee char this is definitely the best vision to do for pure Cloak upgrades. The Stormwind vision (Alleria Windrunner) is a real pain. Trash is no harder than 'Oggi' but the boss fight seems much tougher if you need to get up close.

Great guide, certainly helpful to get more efficient runs in and to detail the mechanics of each zone.
Only changes I would suggest / offer up are maybe a bit more preferential based on my perceived route and a few other suggestions. This is based on the individual essentially doing full clear runs of the Lost / Corrupted Areas, with the boss being last thing and not 100% required outside of extra Corrupted Mementos and a loot roll. It also assumes that you are picking up Corrupted Chests and Odd Crystals on the way. There is a guide referenced below that was created by Squishei on the location of most things.
Once you zone in, stay left initially. Take out the mob(s) on the left as you go past the guild bank. Most of them are easy to burn down, just be sure to focus the Shaman's first, as they drop a Totem that can be annoying.
I generally ignore the Mob (2 Korkron's) in front of Thrall's chamber until I come back from the Lost / Corrupted Zones. He is largely an elective boss that once you progress in the questline is no longer a requirement. Also, the Mob in front casts a Fear style shout that can then send you into other mobs you may not have cleared. Again, they can be done up front, but I prefer to wait at the end to estimate my sanity reserve.
Enter the hut just past the Guild Bank and look on the ground. There will be a dead body, a note, and potion. The potion located on the ground is the "Bad" negative sanity potion (-100) for the remainder of the run. I have found 5 of the good ones in a run, which can be a +500 sanity over the course of a single vision. (See NPC guide below created by author Squishei)
Next clear the Mob next to the Blacksmithing hut, then check inside to see if Naros is present. If he is, kill him for a +10% Damage Buff. (See NPC guide below created by author Squishei)
Kill the Mob just outside the Blacksmithing hut (Again clean up the Shaman first), and then head up to the Valley of Spirits. Clear up the first bit of trash, then clean up Decimator Shiq'voth. There is some roleplay time once you kill him, so skip going into the VoS, and keep going straight into the Valley of Wisdom.
Go through the main objectives, and clear out the VoW all the way through. Pick up the Corrupted Chests when you see them.
Head back to the VoS and complete all the main objectives.
Exit the VoS and then head down back into the Tainted Area of Orgrimmar. Head around the backside of Thrall's chamber and clear any mobs along the way.
Enter the Drag and complete those objectives. While in the Drag, check the hut where the Transmogrifier Ethereal's are and see if the portal is clickable. If it is, it will spawn Warpreaver, who adds a nice +10% Crit Buff.
Once the Drag is complete, move into the final Lost Area, the Valley of Honor.
Complete the objectives in the VoH and take the portal back to the Tainted Area (Entrance) of Orgrimmar.
Assess remaining Sanity Balance, and if allowable, clear any remaining trash pick up remaining chests, and turn in your picked up crystals to Zarhaal located at (54, 71 - Behind the Auction House)
Enter Thrall's chamber, complete objective, and collect loot/treasures.

Again, this is just personal preference, however I have tried timing this several times and found it to be a little bit more efficient. Based on the Valley of Spirits essentially looping back, it is more advantageous to use it as a pathway from one zone to another.
Thanks again though for the great guide! It's perfect for getting in, learning the ropes, and progressing through the first phases of the questline until you get your bearings and want to be adventurous with your extra Sanity.

I found that I can frost trap one of Rexxar's pets and make that fight a little easier. The frost trap also worked nicely in the thrall fight. I placed the trap down by the door and he sat there frozen most of the fight.

PSA: The Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar at the Valley of Spirits seems to be glitched. Had no problems on Tuesday to complete, but as of today once you complete that area the wall after the final monster does not open. Also, I noticed that a couple of the odd crystals are bugged as well and are not viewable through out the areas. I'll submit a ticket, but since this is a couple of expansions old... I do not foresee a fix to be honest.

Was trying to get cloak up for a time walking twink character. In org, the barrier on the left wont open after killing the boss. I even waited for Zev to fight spirits so i can click on totem, only can do 3/4 torn flesh pages for now.
EDIT
I figured it out, The boss has to cast Hopelessness. We are bit over geared so one auto attack should do and remove lightning orb if you are enhance. Hope this helps
