How to Play Arms Warriors in Shadowlands Pre-Patch
Arms Warriors have a relatively slow playstyle which is punctuated by short periods of burst damage during
. This largely revolves around resource management, as care must be taken to ensure that Rage is spent at the right time and place, as becoming Rage starved by using too many fillers means that higher priority attacks cannot be used. While the base toolkit is not overly expansive, the Essences and Azerite bonuses available during the Shadowlands Pre-Patch make it much more engaging, adding additional resources with which to fill extra GCDs, and placing great emphasis on spending as many resources as possible during Colossus Smash in order to build powerful follow-on buffs. Because nearly every ability is a resource spender, Arms Warriors always think a few steps ahead, even if not filling every single global cooldown available.
If you're just getting started as a brand new Arms Warrior, consider checking out the

, which will get you started on proper talents, azerite, essences, stats, gearing and more!
How Different Do Arms Warriors Feel in the Shadowlands Pre-Patch?
Arms Warriors have had few changes, but there are some important ones; the most impactful of which being the redesign of
, which now increases damage taken by the target by a respectable amount. Along with that change,
no longer inflicts the debuff, giving
a more prominent place in the rotation as the primary way of keeping the Mastery active during the Execute phase.
A few talents have also seen small changes, such as the extra critical strike damage on
,
no longer requiring three targets but replacing Sweeping Strikes,
increasing maximum rage, and
creating a shockwave of damage, although none of them greatly impact the core gameplay.
Overall, Arms is doing very well in the prepatch thanks to Essence and Azerite interactions, allowing it to remain relatively fast paced and engaging.
New Abilities for Arms Warriors in Shadowlands Pre-Patch
While little has been added in the way of rotational attacks, the unpruning has returned several very useful utility and defensive abilities, shoring up one of the Warrior's greatest weaknesses and making it a much more adaptable class.
- Is an incredibly powerful addition to the toolkit; best case it offers complete spell immunity along with extra damage output, and at worst it's a nice magical damage reduction on a very short cooldown with no cost or GCD.
- Hurts Arms due to reducing Enrage uptime but has great life-saving potential in certain situations, and can make the Warrior very tanky when combined with other defensive abilities.
- Adds a little bit more mobility back to the toolkit, which is a great advantage, although the defensive portion will rarely serve any important purpose.
- Creates the potential to wear a shield and serve as an impromptu tank, but rarely feels worth the effort due to crippling the specialization's damage output without any notable increase in survivability.
- Exists as a hypothetical filler when using a shield alongside
, but the practical reality is that you lose more than you gain, as the lack of rage generation makes it an inefficient use of the GCD.
- Adds some counterplay to PvP, although it probably won't see too much use in PvE due to the cast time and niche uses.
- Now exists as a stronger version of
, although limited by a cooldown.
How Do AoE Target Caps Affect Arms Warriors in Shadowlands Pre-Patch
hits up to 5 targets, with
and
reaching up to 8, while
has no target cap.

How do the GCD Changes Affect Arms Warrior in Shadowlands?
Very little;
is now off the GCD, although it is seldom used, and
has only had its GCD reduced to 0.75s rather than being removed entirely.
How Strong are Arms Warriors in Shadowlands Pre-Patch?
Arms Warriors currently look very strong going into the Shadowlands Pre-Patch, largely due to the value of
and the Azerite Trait,
, allowing more resources to spend on extra attacks, while also building up lengthy burst windows. Strengths include very strong Azerite traits and good sustained single target and mulititarget damage when talenting Cleave, while weaknesses largely revolve around the slower than usual pace of gameplay and lack of self healing.
What are the Big Gameplay Changes for Arms Warriors?
The central game play remains almost entirely the same, with
taking a periodic role within the Execute phase in order to keep
active. This should make it immediately familiar to veterans of the spec with very little need to adjust.
Specialization Changes
cooldown reduced from 3m -> 2m.
duration increased from 12 -> 15s.
now increases the targets damage taken, rather than scaling bleed damage.
Talent Changes
now heals 30% up from 20%.
now enhances Whirlwind damage.
now replaces Sweeping Strikes, and consumes Overpower to deal increased damage.
now reduces the rage cost of the next 4 abilities by 100% and passively increases maximum rage by 30.
still grants 2 Overpower charges, but not also incorporates Seismic Wave (Azerite Trait ) - causing Overpower to project a wave of damage in a line.
now has a 45s cooldown and slowly follows the closest target.
How does the Loss of Corruption Affect Arms Warriors in the Shadowlands Pre-Patch?
The loss of Corruption hurts Arms more than some other specializations, as both the Arms Azerite Trait,
, and the talent,
, scaled inordinately well with all the extra Haste. With current tuning, the specialization would feel a little weak compared to others, but the high value of Essences and Azerite keeps the spec performing at competitive levels.
Best Talent Builds for Arms Warriors in Pre-patch
With only small talent updates, Arms Warriors don't have a lot of new builds to experiment with in the Shadowlands Pre-patch, as most of the same talent setups used before will continue to be used after. That said, some builds play out better in some forms of content than others, although there's still a certain amount of latitude with which to make personal decisions. Reference the table below to see builds for the general types of content, and check out the
Arms Warrior DPS Talents & Build Guide
for more information on talent changes.
While there's a lot of leeway to use whatever you'd like in noncompetitive content,
gains some ground in the open world, as it no longer requires three targets in order to apply Deep Wounds and now benefits from Overpower's damage bonus, becoming a strong source of damage in its own right, aside from just applying the debuff. With more emphasis placed on multi-target pulls,
also sees some value, as the triggered shockwave will hit each target it passes through.
Mythic+ builds look virtually identical to their Battle for Azeroth counterparts, relying on
and
to maintain constant pressure on each group of targets.
is a potential candidate for burstier AoE, but the target cap and lack of multi-target Mastery value outside of longer cooldowns make it a rather weak option. As always,
remains available as needed.
In single target,
performs a bit better than other options on the row, but
is both a simpler option and performs better when other targets are involved, which is the majority of raid encounters.
Best Rotation for Arms Warriors in Pre-Patch
The basic rotation remains unchanged, with only the addition of
in the Execute phase in order to maintain
. Although there is some nuance, depending on exactly which talents and Azerite Traits you're using, this basic rotation will get you through the majority of content. For a more in-depth review with all the different options, check out the
Arms Warrior Rotation Guide

Best Stats for Arms Warriors in Pre-Patch
In the Shadowlands Pre-patch, Haste will continue to be the go-to stat while using the Azerite Trait,
, with Critical Strike closely behind due to the increased amount of Rage generation it provides. Mastery continues to be a decent stat, although its value in multi-target will depend greatly on whether or not you're using Cleave.
Haste > Critical Strike > Mastery >= Versatility > Strength
Best Azerite Traits for Arms Warriors in Pre-Patch
There are few changes in store for Azerite, so existing gear should be ready to go when the pre-patch goes live.
remains the best trait to stack alongside anything that provides extra Critical Strike, while
remains a reliable bonus. The Ny'alotha raid trait
is also useful, providing a flat amount of stats now that Corruption have been removed.
Best Essences for Arms Warriors in Pre-Patch
Essences also remain unchanged, allowing Arms Warriors to continue with what has worked for them so far. Due to the non-competitive nature of open-world content, virtually anything can be used as desired.

Think this was an oversight unless i missed something about SL Arms (:

黑暗之心
should still provide bonus stats, even though the Corruption system is removed. Is it a good Azerite Trait in the SL pre-patch?
I'm asking since this guide still states it would be not working.
