Welcome to Wowhead's guide for leveling 58-60 in WoW Burning Crusade and Pre-Patch. This guide will discuss the best approach to leveling a boosted Classic character from 58-60, or a high-level (but not quite max-level) Classic character. This covers changes made in Burning Crusade Classic and Pre-Patch to leveling, how to choose a class to boost, and the best strategies to prepare for the excitement of Outlands!
This guide will use the term "boost" to refer to characters who have used the character boost to level 58 using either the Burning Crusade Dark Portal Edition or the Burning Crusade Deluxe Edition. It can also be applied to any character brought up the hard way in Classic who is not quite level 60, and just needs a little guidance on how best to finish up and prepare for Outlands.
For current information on the boost and boosting experience, please see the following guide:
Classic Burning Crusade Character Boost Guide
Who Is This Guide For?
If you fit into any of these categories, this guide is specifically for you.
You've boosted a character to 58 because you've never played Classic WoW, but wish to play in Burning Crusade Classic.
You played at least one character in Classic but none to max level, and want to catch up to hit the ground running with the new expansion.
This guide assumes the following:
While you may have experience playing WoW, you may have little to no experience playing in Classic, or you haven't played Classic in a long time.
You may not have the support of a guild or friends willing to outfit you, give you cash, or escort you through dungeons or raids.
You are starting out with the first adventurer's set but little else, and may need to get most of your experience, play, and materials on your own.
You don't have a ton of starter cash to buy upgrades on the Auction House.
If you have even some advantages, such as a ready-made group of guildies to play with and give you a helping hand, so much the better! But we're going to assume the scenario that you're by yourself on a brand-new server, playing a game you may or may not have played much before.
If this sounds like a bleak prospect, cheer up! Boosts actually give you a decent start in life, and this guide will help tell you what you should be focusing on, where to go, and what to do.
And if these don't describe your situation exactly, you may still benefit from some of the advice -- read on!
Important Changes in WoW Burning Crusade Classic
These are the changes that will have the most impact on your life as a boosted 58-60 player, as well as to players who may have Classic characters who have not yet reached 60 that they intend to play in Burning Crusade Classic.
Leveling Changes in Burning Crusade Classic and Pre-Patch
There are a number of leveling improvements that are being implemented in Burning Crusade Classic and Pre-Patch, making it easier than ever to get those last levels!
Experience needed to level 1-60 has been reduced by 15%.
Completing quests between 30-60 gives increased experience rewards.
Many Elite quests are now soloable.
Many wandering elites in the world have been nerfed to Normal quality mobs. This makes completing some quests and operating in some areas, such as southern Winterspring, far easier, particularly for solo players.
While not of interest to boosted players, you can now learn Riding at level 30 instead of 40.
Loot and Dungeon Changes in WoW Burning Crusade Classic and Pre-Patch
Classic-era dungeons are getting some improvements as well, making it easier to gear up. There are also a few important loot changes as well:
Many loot itemizations that included strange combinations to make them more appropriate for the intended class. For example, most crafted, quest, and dropped cloth items that included +STR or +AGI have been retooled for +INT or added spell/healing.
A LFG tool has been added to Burning Crusade Classic. While not as fully featured as the LFG tools in Retail, it will make it much easier to find groups for dungeons and questing activities.
Summoning Stones can be used to summon distant party members.
Uncommon quality boss loot has been upgrade to Rare quality.
Dungeon levels have been retooled to narrow the intended range. This will help ensure that players of the appropriate range won't struggle to kill elites far above their level and that drops will be useful to them.
Deciding Which Class to Boost
If you're new to Classic and want to know which class you should boost, realize that there is a lot of debate on this topic.
The real answer is to play what you like. It's best if it's a class you're already used to playing in any expansion. Using your single boost on a class you're not accustomed to playing in any version may result in buyer's remorse. If you've never played in Classic before, your favorite class may feel somewhat different than what you're used to playing, but the concepts are similar, as are many of the strengths and weaknesses.
If you want some basic tips on class playability and their projected strength in Burning Crusade, here are some general notes about classes:
猎人
or
术士
Both classes are very strong in Burning Crusade Classic. Warlocks in particular routinely topped damage meters in the original Burning Crusade, as well as being indispensable utility players in some raids such as Gruul's Lair. Hunters, particularly Beast Mastery, also have great utility; improvements such as the removal of the ranged shot dead zone from Classic make them much more dangerous in all situations.
德鲁伊
They aren't as gear dependent as some other classes, and one druid provides all three roles in one toon (although changing Talent specs costs gold in Burning Crusade Classic; dual specs don't even come into play until WOTLK). Healers and tanks are always in high demand for dungeon groups.
圣骑士
or
萨满祭司
Both strong choices, but you can't buy boosts for Draenei or Blood Elves. Paladins are somewhat gear dependent, but less so than Warriors. Shaman can be a tricky class to jump into if you're not experienced with it, but they're considered especially strong for PvP in Burning Crusade Classic.
法师
or
牧师
Mages and Priests have really strong solo questing specializations like Frost and Shadow, but these can incur a lot of downtime. Shadow Priests are highly sought after to help healers in raids, as they can restore Mana through
, so it's a great class to boost if raiding is a final goal. Fire Mages also look particularly strong for raiding.
战士
or
潜行者
These melee classes are highly gear dependent and you may struggle deal early on as a result. Neither class is especially strong in Burning Crusade Classic (prot warriors were king in Classic, but not as dominant in BCC), and melee DPS spots in dungeons are often highly contested.
For a good overview of the classes in Burning Crusade Classic, please see the following guide:

Class Guides for Burning Crusade Classic Boosted Players
Our Guide Writers have prepared class pages aimed at boosted players, such as new players coming from Retail or relapsed players from earlier WoW Classic phases. These guides are aimed more at the 58-70 experience, as they discuss best quests to complete and dungeons to run in Outland, but they also contain useful information for the pre-patch such as the viability of each spec, strengths/weaknesses, and good talent builds.

Starting Out as a Fresh 58
So, you're a fresh 58 and raring to go -- not so fast! There's setup to do.
Once you've gone through your first few quests to set yourself up with your new gear, a few talent points, and a new spell, you'll still need to get yourself ready to go.
The first thing you're going to want to do is research talents. The talent trees from Classic and Burning Crusade Classic era do not look like the trees from Retail; they're much more complicated and require a lot more choice. You can also mix and match abilities from all three available trees, instead of being limited to one.
Changing talents in Classic is also different from changing talents in Retail -- and more expensive. You will need to visit your Class Trainer to change talents, and they will charge a fee to do it -- a fee that will increase the more times you change. The first reset costs , but can go up to a maximum of , though it does go down every month you don't change. (Those familiar with BfA's system of redoing Azerite armor traits will be familiar with this concept).
Choose wisely. These guides can help:
Balance Druid Talents
Feral Druid Talents
Resto Druid Talents
Hunter Talents
Mage Talents
Holy Paladin Talents
Ret Paladin Talents
Healing Priest Talents
Shadow Priest Talents
Rogue Talents
Elemental Shaman Talents
Enhancement Shaman
Resto Shaman Talents
Warlock Talents TBC
Warrior DPS Talents
Warrior Tank Talents
Once you've chosen and assigned your talents, you'll want to start setting up your bars and rotations. If you visited any of the talent guides above, you'll also find some advice on setting up rotations. These may be a bit different than what you're used to. (Also check your mail for any leftover items you had on you if you boosted a character that was higher level; your old gear and bags will be in there).
You're armed, you're set up, and it's time to jump right into a dungeon or Outlands! Right?
Not yet.
The next thing you will need to do as a boosted character is to start getting used to your rotation. Go out into an area that's low enough where it's not a huge challenge, but high enough that you'll still get some experience. Some good setup trial zones include Blasted Lands, Un'goro Crater, and Felwood (all 48-55), or Western Plaguelands (51-58). It will give you enough of a challenge to start getting used to your spec and rotation without imminent death on every horizon. Pick up a few quests and take yourself for a test spin!
Once you've gotten used to your new rotation, it's time to move forward.
Tip
: If you're not used to Classic (and you're not a mage and can't summon your own), bring PLENTY of food and water. You'll be using it a lot more in Classic than you do in Retail, where non-stat food is rarely needed.
Leveling 58-60: The Best Approach
Here is the best way to think about leveling 58-60 in Burning Crusade Classic and Pre-Patch:
Focus on upgrading your gear, not on getting from 58-60.
Instead of worrying about leveling, concentrate on improving your gear. Upgrading your gear makes everything else easier: leveling, skilling up professions, and acquiring gold. Getting from 58-60 will happen as a natural consequence of this process.
When you start out, you're given a full set of Uncommon-quality armor and weapons. These have a minimum required level of 58, but their iLevel is actually 52 -- what you would normally get from armor that's got a minimum character level of 47. These will be enough to get you started, but you'll want to upgrade them to make sure you're ready to move forward.
For example, the cloth robe a boosted Caster gets, the
, has identical armor and iLevel of
符文布袍
. The stats are slightly different (+22 INT vs. +17 INT/+11 SPI), but other than that and the required minimum level, they're comparable items.
Join a Guild
This may be an obvious suggestion, but if you don't already have a group of friends who are playing together, be sure to join your server's Guild Recruitment channel. Many guilds are putting together groups for Burning Crusade Classic content for all kinds of purposes -- social/casual, PvP, and raiding. Doing this early may give you a group of people to play with, which will make some of the best options even better.
Battlegrounds for Ranked PvP Gear Available for Honor Points
Hands down, if you want the best path for gearing up 58-60 while leveling, battlegrounds are the way to go during Pre-Patch.
With the PvP Honor and Ranking System changes coming in the Pre-Patch, WoW Classic's PvP gear that could previously only be unlocked through the ranking system will now be available for purchase with Honor Points and Battleground marks.
This is a fantastic way to gear out boosted characters and alts before the Dark Portal opens.

Dungeon Leveling 58-60
Dungeons are
the
best way to go for gearing up while leveling 58-60, hands down. In this case, the fact that a lot of other people will be doing it during Pre-Patch and early Burning Crusade means that you may be able to find groups more quickly (and if you know people who are all working on the same goal, so much the better!). Of course, tank and healer classes will be in high demand.
Plus, since dungeons are instanced, there are no crowds and you're safe from PvP -- bonus!
There may be some issues with boosted characters being rejected from groups due to their low gear status and presumed lack of knowledge of operating their class in Classic (I was already seeing "no boosts" in beta, so it's likely to be a thing). Dungeons are the most efficient way to get the drops you need to improve your gear, and will put you in a much better place to hit the Outlands running instead of limping.
Tip
:
Start and advertise a "Dungeon Learning Group" for boost-only toons so you can all learn together! It might be a little slow, but it's a great way to meet new friends.
Raids are also great ways to level and get gear, but unless you have access to established raid groups that are willing to boost characters through the content, that may not be an option for you. Smaller 10-player raids such as Blackrock Spire will be more attainable.
You will also see higher-geared characters willing to do dungeon or raid boosts for unattached characters -- usually for a fee, of course. Only boosts for WoW gold or items are legitimate for Blizzard (real-money transactions are forbidden by the Blizzard EULA, so don't get mixed up in those). Some waive the fee in lieu of having the right to loot all BoE greens. If you're a true booster with little cash, you may not be able to afford their fees, but if they're being generous, go for it!
The dungeons you'll want to focus on are as follows. These will have gear upgrades as well as good experience. The level ranges given here are what the dungeon will be calibrated for in Burning Crusade Classic/Pre-Patch:
5-Player Dungeons - All 58-60
斯坦索姆
: Either Live Side or Undead Side Stratholme is great for gearing toons. Many items in Strat are Best in Slot items, so worth spending some focused time here. Getting the
城市大门钥匙
from
巴瑟拉斯镇长
, the first boss on the Service Gate section, helps shortcut to Strat's back door that leads directly into Dead Side. Like other keys, only one player needs to open it.
厄运之槌
: All three wings are worth visiting. The Tribute Run in North is especially fun, but you probably need to get geared up some to get the most out of it.
通灵学院
: Scholomance not only has a great many gear drops, but also valuable profession recipes. Scholomance requires
Skeleton Key
to open, but only one player needs it. The door can also be blown up with a
强力爆盐炸弹
, lockpicked by a Rogue with a skill of 280 or higher, or opened using a torch by a player on the other side.
10-Player Raids
黑石塔
: Lower Blackrock Spire is 54-60, and Upper Blackrock Spire is 58-60. Entering Upper Blackrock Spire requires a
晋升印章
to open, though only one person needs to have the key.
Our dungeon guides for these also list notable gear drops, so you can choose and plan your runs more efficiently. There is also a good guide that goes over all the key and attunement requirements.
Classic Attunements and Dungeon Keys

Questing 58-60
If you're on your own, solo questing is a good way to level up and get some gear, and there are a few good places to do so. Remember that 30-60 has bonuses for completing quests, so it will make your trip to 60 even easier.
Gear is not going to be as great in zones as it will be in dungeons, but if you're not a dungeon fan or prefer the solo route, it's still an improvement over your boost gear. Most of the quest items you'll get range from ilvl 54-60.
Western Plaguelands isn't a bad place to start, but the quest items you'll get there won't be a big improvement on what you got out of your bag. You need to play with the big boys, which means going to one of three zones:
Eastern Plaguelands
(53-60)
Winterspring
(53-60)
Silithus
(55-60)
Notice that Hellfire Peninsula isn't on the list?
I do not recommend that new boosts jump straight into Hellfire Peninsula
(which you aren't even going to be able to do in Pre-Patch). Your booster gear is fine, but it's 11 levels behind even a moderately-geared Classic-raised 58, and you are
really
going to struggle in Hellfire Peninsula unless you can get at least some basic upgrades. There is a big gear reset going into Hellfire Peninsula (quest items there start around ilvl 81), and while you'll get some massive upgrades if you go there early, it will probably be a lot slower getting to 60 than if you grind it out in Classic zones.
Another piece of advice: do all the quest lines in a single zone. If you can get to the end of some quest lines, you may be able to get some Rare or even Epic quality upgrades, but these tend to be near the end of the zone's final quest lines.
Questing will get you leveled up from 58-60 efficiently, but it has one major drawback: there will be a lot of other people doing this during Pre-Patch and early on in Burning Crusade Classic, so these zones will likely be very crowded in Pre-Patch and early in Burning Crusade Classic.

Leveling Professions, The Star of Burning Crusade Classic
Most long-time players agree that Burning Crusade was the very best expansion for professions. In no other expansions have professions created such useful items, many of which supersede dungeon or raid gear in quality and longevity. While in later expansions, professions such as Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Tailoring, and even Engineering produced mostly starter gear, Burning Crusade Classic's professions are a key success metric for many serious players.
Players coming from Retail may not remember that they will need to level a profession from 1-300 before they can start on Outlands-era professions, so you can also use this time to choose and level up those professions. For new boosts without outside support, this will mean farming most if not all of the materials necessary. The amount of money you will get in your starter set will not be nearly enough to cover buying materials off the Auction House to level. Still, it's well worth doing, and you can get familiar with your class again as you work the lower level zones for materials.
As you reach the higher levels in the profession, you may even be able to make some gear improvements. Most of the items you can make with over 250 skill in Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, or Tailoring will be an improvement over boost gear.
If you're going for one or two Gathering professions, you can sell your surplus items on the Auction House for extra cash, which you will also need. However, it's hard to predict whether lower-level profession mats will be in high demand and lucrative, or the market will crash from being glutted with other boosts trying to do the same thing. This will likely depend on your server economy.
I don't actually recommend working on raising Professions until after you've done gear improvements through dungeons or questing and gotten to level 60. You'll be much better able to farm after you've at least started to address your gear, and you may even have a bit of cash to help you through the tougher parts.
For more information about Professions in WoW Classic and Burning Crusade Classic, please see the following guides. They cover information about each profession and links to specific guides that tell you how to level most efficiently:

You can't enter dungeons or raids for the first 24 hours after boosting a character, by the way.

There are some bizarre sentences in this article which show that, while waiting for TBC, you should spend more time proofreading what you are writing

I fail to understand why you keep mentioning that having better gear is beneficial to leveling professions. Maybe for skinning if you plan to kill the mobs yourself.
Otherwise nice guide.

Experience needed to level 1-60 has been reduced by 15%.
It's only from 20-60 that the xp was reduced.

If you are a caster farm cloth and get that tailoring to 300 ASAP... once you get to Runecloth farm dungeouns to get to 60. Make your specialized set ie felcloth set. Save your Rune Cloth because there are still skill ups for it beyond 300. Once you get through the portal in two weeks focus only on gear upgrade quests/chains and fill in pieces with nethercloth set. Then farm all normal dungeouns to 7999 Friendly for Rep then go back and do all quests in zone to revered for factions with a Heroic key requirement. Then at 68 start Kara chain. At 70 go SMV train flying. Then go to NS and do every quest in the zone and Finish last part of Kara attune. Run Kara weekly in either guild run or Soft reserve pugs. Finish up tailoring and run Heroics for mats and recipes. While waiting farm Rep for needed reputations. Save all motes and be sure you have a bank alt to store craft him some netherweave bags to increase the storage. If paying for mats farn nether wrave and make bags to post on AH. Save all your felcloth mooncloth etc. and either do enchanting or skinning for other profession. You can sell skins on AH for quite a bit of gold at the later levels because folks make drums with it. Another thing to consider is farming Arakkoa for feathers as it is needed for Rep as well as Aldor Scrior rep tokens. TBC is packed full of awesome things to do. So if one place is busy and being farmed there is always another way. Also a side note on motes HCS farming has a good return ad many dungeoun adds drip these so make sure to look into dungeouns and mob match the needed motes. I leveled a boost on the beta and started week but easily got established with this Strat.

Can also just save your time and wait for Outland and just get gear/level then lol. At least you don't need to deal with vanilla content then.
