Queen Talanji is the ruler of the Zandalari Empire, ascending to the throne after the death of King Rastakhan, killed during the Battle of Dazar'alor.
Zandalari Lore Videos by Nobbel87
Early Life
Princess Talanji grew up in The Great Seal, her father's palace in Dazar'alor. As a child, Talanji's best friend was Apari, daughter of Yazma, the priestess of the spider loa Shadra. The two girls would get up to all sorts of mischief that, as princess, Talanji was able to get away with. Talanji once told Apari that all babies do is "cry and stink", but that her father told her it was a queen's duty to continue the line. Apari encouraged her to make her own rules when she was queen, and Talanji had promised that no one would tell them what to do.
Talanji had a close relationship with her father, King Rastakhan, who would sometimes allow her to sit on his throne.
Battle for Azeroth
Princess Talanji is encountered by Horde players for the first time in the Stormwind Stockades, during
逃出暴风城
. The Horde sent a strike force to Stormwind, composed of Rokhan, First Arcanist Thalyssra, Lasan Skyhorn, Nathanos Blightcaller and the player, to rescue Talanji. During the rescue, Talanji summons the powers of Rezan multiple times to aid the Horde forces.
After Talanji is rescued and brought back to Zuldazar, she explains to the Horde player that she felt that the Zanchuli Council, close advisors to the Zandalari Throne, were not doing their job to protect the best interest of the Zandalari people, so she sought to negotiate with the Horde for aid, before being captured by Alliance forces.
Princess Talanji says: We have only a few moments alone, <name>. Dere are things about my kingdom dat you must know.
Princess Talanji says: Zandalar is beset by enemies, both within and without. Dis is why I went seeking de Horde... and why I call upon you, one of its greatest heroes.
Princess Talanji says: Blood trolls surge across our northern border. Dey drag our people off to de swamps of Nazmir, never to be seen again.
Princess Talanji says: Meanwhile, de Zanchuli Council, scheming politicians and decrepit old tusks, dismisses dis threat. Dey convince my father dat nothing need be done.
Nazmir
Against Rastakhan's wishes, Talanji led an expedition to the swamps of Nazmir in order to directly confront the Blood Trolls that would constantly assault Zuldazar.

through Nazmir.
In Nazmir, she scryed for the help of the Loa located within the region - Torga, Loa of Turtles, Krag'wa, the Frog Loa, Hir'eek, Loa of Night, and Bwonsamdi, Loa of Death. Talanji also managed to get an alliance with the local Tortollans. During Talanji's missions in Nazmir, after reactivating Titan-Keeper Hezrel she and the Horde player learned of the Old God trapped beneath Nazmir, G'huun (

).
Torga and Hir'eek fell during the Nazmir questline - Torga was devoured clean by the Blood Trolls (
献给死神的灵魂
), and Hir'eek was corrupted by G'huun (
隔离扎拉玛
) and slain by the player (
弑神
). The remaining Loa agreed to help Talanji and her forces.
Hir'eek, the Bat Loa, Loa of Night, one of the loas forcibly killed by Talanji's Expedition.
Later during Nazmir, Talanji and the Horde forces managed to defeat the leader of the Nazmir Blood Trolls, Grand Ma'da Ateena, on
终结鲜血巨魔
, as well as shoot the corrupted Titan Watcher in Nazmir,
塔罗克
.
Zuldazar
Talanji has no direct participation in the Zuldazar storyline, but she appears on the cinematic showing King Rastakhan striking a deal with Bwonsamdi, mourning Rezan's death, and mentioning she has "felt something just a moment ago", signifying Rastakhan's pact to have his entire bloodline serve him for all eternity has also affected her.
At the end of the cinematic, Rastakhan meets with Talanji, and mentions everything is going to be okay.
Spirits Be With You
During the
万灵与你同在
Questline, Talanji walks the Golden Road with the player on the quest
沃金,森金之子
. During the escort, Master Gadrin and Talanji talk a bit about Vol'jin's deeds.
Master Gadrin says: We come bearin' da ashes of Vol'jin, son of Sen'jin, ta be honored in dis sacred place.
Princess Talanji says: Dis is an honor seldom awarded to one not of Zandalar. Come, walk de path with me and share dis Vol'jin's deeds.
After Vol'jin's vision of Zul
Master Gadrin says: When Zandalar tried ta unite da troll tribes, Vol'jin chose da safety of his people over da prophet's dark powers.
Princess Talanji says: At de time, Zul's vision of a grand troll empire was very tempting to my father. I must commend your warchief for seeing de bigger picture.
During the quest
阿塔达萨:大酋长的骨灰
, Talanji again expresses her admiration for Vol'jin's ways:
I have learned much of de Darkspear lately. Truth is, I have quietly admired dem since I was a little girl, hearin' of Vol'jin's defiance of Zul's reckless call to action.
Vol'jin was Warchief of the Horde, chieftain of de Darkspear, and more troll den most can claim to be.
His ashes should be honored in a place of kings and queens.
Take de ashes to Atal'Dazar with my blessing and honor your former Warchief as he deserves.
Uldir
Talanji meets up with Horde players in Uldir and helps guide the players through the raid. On the Alliance side, this is done by Brann Bronzebeard.
Tides of Vengeance
Talanji and her forces are tricked in the
Horde War Campaign
, lured out to Nazmir by a ruse set by the Alliance. In
, we go to the coast of Nazmir and discover that the Abyssal Scepter, the relic the Horde stole at the end of the 8.0 War Campaign, was stolen back from the Alliance and used to create the fog blanketing Nazmir. As Talanji finally nullifies the scepter's effects, the horrible truth is learned: There is no Alliance fleet in Nazmir, the entire attack was a distraction to lead the Zandalari there. Realizing their errors and that Dazar'alor was left defenseless, they quickly fly back in
.
As we arrive in Dazar'alor, the city is already under siege by the Alliance. However, Talanji's forces don't return in time, as King Rastakhan is defeated by the Alliance and left for dead. As Talanji rushes to her father's side, she comes across her old friend Apari, a leg crushed beneath a pillar. Talanji promises Apari that she will be back for her and rushes on. Talanji arrives just in time to witness her father's last breath. The tragedy drives all thought of Apari out of her mind, and she forgets to check on her friend. Apari, abandoned and hurt, turns against Talanji after that.
It is also here that Talanji finally learns of the bargain Rastakhan struck with Bwonsamdi, as Bwomsandi's powers pass on to her.
Following the completion of the War Campaign, and Sylvanas' decision to raise Derek Proudmoore, Talanji is disturbed by the actions of the Warchief. Together with Rokhan and Baine, she goes on a mission to learn why Vol'jin appointed Sylvanas as Warchief. This quest takes her to Bwonsamdi, the Lich King, and Eyir... and while she does not know who was behind the decision, it's clear there are dark forces at play.
Vol'jin pledges to aid Talanji and provide advice if she needs it--he believes her to be a better ruler than her father.
Talanji: No matter de circumstances, she is leader of de Horde. I will do all I can to ensure dat her rule is a just one.
Vol'jin: Zandalar still stands because of your courage, Talanji. Your father was mired in da old ways, dreamin' of a troll empire lost to time.
Vol'jin: But you be da first to look to da future... to see what da trolls can become. Ya be young, but ya be righteous. Call on me spirit if ya ever need advice from an old chieftain.
Vol'jin: For now, I gonna keep searchin' for answers. If dere be new enemies gatherin' in da shadows, den I best be huntin' dem... before dey hunt us.
Coronation to Queen of the Zandalari
Following the death of her father, King Rastakhan, Talanji meets opposition from Zandalari citizens to become the new ruler (
镇压暴乱
,
). After the resistance is dealt with, Talanji forms her new Zanchuli Council made up of Hexlord Raal, Wardruid Loti, High Prelate Rata, Jo'nok, General Rakera, and a Tortollan, Lashk, a first in the Zandalari Empire history (
).
Talanji then goes through the sacred ritual to be raised as Queen of the Zandalari, going through challenges set by the Loas Krag'wa (
), Gonk (
), Paku (
) and now the highest of the Loa, Bwonsamdi.
Bwonsamdi's trial is the hardest for Talanji, although its premise was the simplest: Bwomsandi wanted to strike a deal with Talanji. To have the bargain made by Rastakhan undone in exchange for the head of Warchief Sylvanas Windrunner. Talanji refuses the deal, saying she honors the Horde for helping the Zandalari in their time of need (
).
Talanji: You dare stand in de place meant for Rezan? Does your arrogance have no limit, Bwonsamdi?
Bwonsamdi: Mind ya manners, child. Ol' Bwonsamdi be raised above all other loa. Just like ya father said.
Talanji: Test me and be done with dis.
---
Bwonsamdi: Well, since ya be so eager to get rid of me... I got a new deal for ya.
Bwonsamdi: Bring me da head of de Horde's warchief, and I be forgettin' all about ya father's bargain.
Talanji: Oh... by de loa...
Talanji: No. De Horde stood beside us when all seemed lost. I will not repay dem with betrayal.
Bwonsamdi: Dat ya final answer?
Talanji: It is. My freedom is not worth my honor.
Bwonsamdi: Ah, dat is a real shame. Been wantin' a warchief's spirit for a long time. But go on. Claim ya crown.
After passing all of the trials imposed by the Loa, Talanji rises to the top of Dazar'alor and announces herself as the
.
"De loa have given me their blessing. My advisors welcomed me. De leaders of our faith have all knelt before me. My people have many voices, but on de whole they have accepted my rule.
Once I step foot on that dais, I become Queen Talanji. It is what my father prepared me for. It is what I have spent my whole life growing toward.
I am ready. Are you?"
Talanji: People of Zandalar.
Talanji: I stand before you, having proven myself to de loa.
Talanji: But it is your trust dat I must earn.
Talanji: Many questioned my judgment when I reached out to de Horde.
Talanji: But without their aid, we would have collapsed under de weight of our pride. These mighty allies have given Zandalar new strength.
Talanji: A glorious future awaits our empire. And we must embrace it together. Will you stand with me?
Talanji: Zandalar forever!
Talanji then addresses to Sylvanas their official entrance to the Horde, claiming the Zandalari to be equals to the rest of the faction (
).
Sylvanas: She thinks to summon me? Hmph. I suppose she is allowed some posturing today.
Talanji: De Horde has been a trustworthy ally to Zandalar.
Talanji: Without our partnership, we may not have overcome de threats dat rose against us.
Talanji: I understand dat you have need of our forces. De Alliance will stop at nothing to destroy you.
Talanji: So let it be official. De Zandalari and de Horde will stand together... as equals.
Sylvanas: Equals?
I am de queen of Zandalar. And a queen kneels to no one. Surely, you understand.
Sylvanas: I see... Very well, Queen Talanji. The Horde welcomes you.
After Xal'atath is freed, Queen Talanji reacts to the news of N'Zoth.
As a child, I listened to de elders tell tales of de Old Gods. I thought dey were little more than ghost stories meant to frighten us.
But now I see dat dey are all too real. An infection within de heart of Azeroth.
We defeated G'huun, but N'Zoth poses an even graver threat. In a world torn apart by war, I pray de loa will show us a way to stop him.
"Shadows Rising" and Shadowlands
In Shadows Rising, the pre-expansion novel by Madeleine Roux, Talanji’s story continues.
After Sylvanas abandons the Horde, the decision is made to not elect a new Warchief. Rather, a Horde Council is established, with representatives from the various Horde races. During this time, an armistice between the Alliance and Horde is signed.
Talanji is angered by the armistice. She attends a Horde Council meeting, in which she declares a desire for revenge against the Alliance, particularly the Proudmoores, for the death of her father, King Rastakhan. The Horde try to placate her, trying to argue that the needs of the whole Horde need to be considered and that the armistice should not be put at risk. Rokhan, leader of the Darkspeare Trolls, speaks up in Talanji's support, calling talks of diplomacy and delegation cowardly. However, the Horde Council as a whole ultimately decides that, while they are happy to support Talanji's rule in Zandalar, they will aid her in getting revenge. Furious, Talanji storms out of the meeting.
Back in Zandalar, rebel forces who want to see Talanji's rule end have begun to organize. Apari, once one of Talanji's closest friends but now seeking only revenge, plots to assassinate the queen with poison.
Back in Orgrimmar, the assassination attempt is carried out. A servant attempts to serve Talanji the poison in place of her wine, but Zekhan, a young Troll shaman, spills the poison and stops the attack. The assassin draws a dagger and tries to attack the queen directly, but Zekhan throws himself in the way. The assassin commits suicide before they're able to question him, and Talanji is shocked to realize he's Zandalari, and from her own entourage. Thrall tells her that she will need to question everyone, and she flames up, telling him to question his own people and declaring that she's going back to Zandalar, as Horde are useless to her, and unable to guarantee her safety.
Once back home, Talanji feels a little calmer in familiar territory, though still burdened. Her father's death still weighs on her, and the Horde won't even help her revenge him. She calls on Bwonsamdi, loa of death, and asks him to let her see her father. Bwonsamdi tells her that he's unable to grant her request, but then suggests that he could make a deal. She refuses, and tries to command him to bring her father to her, but again he says no, and leaves her.
The Horde Council are upset that Talanji has refused to join, and decide to send an ambassador to her in Dazar'alor. The ambassador chosen is Zekhan, the same Troll her saved her life in Orgrimmar. Meanwhile, the Alliance have found evidence that Dark Rangers may be in Zandalar - and wonder if Talanji is conspiring with Sylvanas.
Back in her kingdom, Talanji holds court. As she grants a petition - one that will allow two young Troll girls in love to marry - she reflects that this may be her favorite tasks as queen. However, news breaks out about the assassination attempt, causing great concern. Talanji is asked if the Zandalari are still part of the Horde, and she replies that they are - but only if the y get the support they deserve. This doesn't quite stop the gossipping of the court, which becomes nearly frantic when a Horde Troll is spotted making his way forward. Talanji orders that he be allowed to pass and recognizes Zekhan, who tells her he's the new ambassador. When one of Talanji's generals, Rakera, accuses Zekhan of being a spy, he simply agrees, stating that he's a spy, an ambassador, eyes, ears, all for the Horde, who is worried about her.
Talanji decides that Zekhan deserves a chance, and escorts him around the palace. They speak about the contrast between their homes, Zekhan amusing Talanji with descriptions of the Echo Isles. Talanji's mood darkens as they enter the hall where her father was killed. She used to love this place, playing here as a child, but now all she can think about is the cruelty of the Alliance, and of Jaina Proudmoore, and how she felt like a child again when she picked up her father's crown. Zekhan defends Jaina, pointing out her help in rescuing Baine and fighting Azshara, and argues that people can change. He uses Talanji herself as an example, telling her she might have been a little girl when she took her father's crown, but now she's changed into a real queen. Talanji demands if Zekhan will report her grief to the Horde, but he replies that her grief is her own, and confides that he has felt the death of two fathers - as Saurfang had been like a second father to him. He asks if Talanji could find out how Saurfang is doing from Bwonsamdi, since he's her loa. Talanji is ultimately impressed with Zekhan, finding him smarter than he looks.
They are interrupted when a guard arrives in a hurry, bringing news of a rebel attack within the palace. The guard and Zekhan help to protect Talanji from the attack, which turns out to be from The Widow's Bite, a group that followed Shandra of the loa Yazma. Talanji is shocked that the group still exists, as both the loa and high priestess are dead - however, no rebels can be questioned as they all throw themselves on the guards' blades when they realize they are outnumbered. Talanji reflects on the fact that the rebels will never stop coming, and wonders how she can ever call herself a true queen while her people are divided.
Talanji works tirelessly against the rebel forces, developing strategies with her council and trying a variety of approaches and tactics, but they still gain more and more of a hold in Zandalar. They carry out attacks on Bwonsamdi's shrines, which weakens both the loa and the queen.
Talanji is soon plagued by nightmares of a great spider that has her trapped, dripping poison from its fangs. The Widow's Bite continues to haunt her, and not just in her dreams. The father of one of the brides she had granted a petition to had been taken by the rebels and sacrificed. She sees his face in one of her nightmares, and eventually she cries out for Bwonsamdi. The loa comes at the call, and Talanji awakens. They discuss the rebels and the effect their attacks are having on both Talanji and Bwonsamdi, and Bwonsamdi tries to convince Talanji to accept and ask for aid from the Horde - believing it to be the only way to save them both. She is still hesitant, but finally agrees to a deal. She will work with the Horde, if Bwonsamdi releases her from the deal her father made - the bond between them. Bwonsamdi is angry, and tells her she will regret it, but makes the deal anyway.
In a council meeting soon after, Zekhan appeals to Talanji again, trying to get her to accept assistance from the Horde. She doesn't accept it right out, repeating the need for revenge against the Alliance, but she allows her council to debate the offer.
Thrall learns that the rebels in Talanji's kingdom are being assisted by Dark Rangers. He offers the Horde's help again, and Talanji accepts. However, the forces take some time to arrive, and Talanji doesn't have time to wait. Zekhan offers to join some of her soldiers as they head out to defend Bonswamdi's shrines. He risks his life to save some Zandalari children and is horribly burned as a result, even dying for a short time before Bwonsamdi intervenes and brings his soul back to his body. Zekhan sees the Maw while he's dead, and Bwonsamdi explains about it, and about the way souls are going to it, though he puts Talanji at her ease about Rastakhan - Bwonsamdi has been saving all he can from the Maw by taking them to his own realm.
Talanji is deeply shaken by Zekhan's injuries, and has her own personal physicians attend to him. One her guards brings her the news that Apari is with the rebel forces, and Talanji remembers how they used to play together as children. Apari had been the daughter of Yazma, the high priestess of Shadra, but she had always been loyal to Talanji, even when Yazma turned traitor. Finally, Talanji remembers seeing Apari caught beneath a pillar during the assault on Dazar'alor, but she had left her friend after only promising to send help, and then had forgotten to do even that when she found her father dying. Talanji is overcome by doubt and guilt, feeling like she failed Apari, and Zekhan, and Zandalar itself. However, Bwonsamdi appeals to her and comforts the queen, promising that death brings life, and all is not lost. She finds her courage again, and her faith that the Horde will come and help her.
By the time Talanji prepares to lead her forces against the rebels at the Necropolis, the Horde still hasn't arrived. She fears that she will have to face her enemies alone, but then the Horde arrive, just in time. Together, they make their way to the Necropolis, where a Troll named Tayo rushes out to meet them. Tayo tells them that she can no longer stand by Apari, as she's become consumed by her hate for Talanji, but asks that they promise to give Apari a quick death. Thrall agrees, and Talanji only bites her tongue.
In the battle that follows, Talanji comes face to face with Apari. Her old friend is hardly recognizable, an infection in her leg poisoning her body, she resembles a corpse. Apari sends a bolt of lightning at her, and the barrier Talanji raises causes the lightning to bounce back, hitting Apari squarely in the chest. She flies against a column and cracks her skull. Talanji and Tayo make their way to the dying Apari together, and Talanji cradles Apari's head in her lap as she tells her she's sorry. Apari only replies that everyone who brought that attack on Dazar'alor should die - Talanji, and Bwonsamdi, and Jaina Proudmoore. Talanji responds that revenge will only take her so far, and that it will not help her, but that Talanji would. She then conjures up a soothing spell for Apari while Tay gives her a quick death.
Nathanos Blightcaller has been assisting the rebels and he is with Bwonsamdi, attempting to destroy the loa. Talanji invokes the power of the bond she has with Bwonsamdi to defeat Nathanos. He is defeated, but he manages to escape with Sylvanas's magic.
With the rebels defeated, Talanji is ready to trust the Horde again, and to take her place on the Horde Council. In celebration, she throws a feast, and though she knows that one day Jaina Proudmoore will have to answer for her crimes, for now she realizes patience is better. Zekhan prepares to return to Orgrimmar, and Talanji decides to send her own ambassador with him - Tayo. As the Horde leaves, she is surprised to find herself quite sad.
A little Troll girl brings Talanji a flower, but asks if she will be forced to worship Bwonsamdi instead of Gonk. Talanji promises that no Troll will be forced to worship a loa that they don't want to, that Gonk is wonderful, and Bwonsamdi isn't that bad either. She promises that all loa will advise her, not just the loa of death.
Back in the palace, Bwonsamdi prepares to keep up his end of the bargain and cut the bond he has with Talanji, but she stops him, saying that he can still be the loa of kings. However, she does want the other loa to also have a place, as all the loa are crucial to survival. Bwonsamdi is pleased, and decides to reward Talanji with a surprise. He brings her King Rastakhan's spirit.
Talanji is overwhelmed with emotion, but does not mind her father seeing. Rastakhan tells her that he is proud of her, and when she protests that she's made so many mistakes, he comforts her, telling her that no ruler is perfect. Her mistakes will be forgotten and replaced with victories, she must be brave, and he tells her again that she makes him proud. Rastakhan can't stay long, due to unpredictabilities with the spirit realm, and all to quickly the visit is at an end. Talanji promises that she will be brave, and in fact, already is.
