High Exarch Turalyon is one of the five original Paladins of the Order of the Silver Hand. Though he was missing, even suspected dead, for a long period of time, he has recently returned to Azeroth with his High Elf wife, Alleria Windrunner.
Early Life
Turalyon was born in Lordaeron to a noble named Dorus. Though not a particularly pious child, like all human nobles he was raised to believe in the Holy Light. As a young man, Turalyon joined the priesthood of the Holy Light. He took his duties seriously, and by the time of the Second War, he was one of Lordaeron's most venerated priests.
The Second War
Formation of the Alliance
Even as the Orcs invaded during the Second War, the leaders of the seven human nations were divided. During a debate between the Council of Seven Nations,
King Greymane
of Gilneas and King Perenold of Alterac specifically avoided calls for a united Alliance, as they worried they could lose some of their regional power.
Turalyon spoke passionately at this meeting. Using the orphaned Varian as an example, he argued that the Orcs would make orphans of all of their children - if they were even merciful enough to allow them to survive. He said that the human nations stood at a crossroads: unite and save Azeroth, or allow politics and petty infighting to cause them to fall. Turalyon argued that humans specifically held a unique position in the world, and that united they could act as the guardians of Azeroth.
His speech was met with resounding applause, and even Greymane and Perenold were moved. As a result, the Alliance of Lordaeron was formed, and Lord Anduin Lothar was made leader of the united Alliance forces. Lothar named Turalyon his second in command, much to Turalyon's own surprise.
The First Paladins
After the fall of Stormwind, Alonsus Faol, Archbishop of the Church of Light, realized that more than his priests would be needed if the Alliance was going to defeat the invading Horde. While faith in the Holy Light was powerful, the Orcs were able to easily physically overpower any cleric. He decided to create the Knights of the Silver Hand, an order of knights who combined their physical capabilities with faith in the Holy Light.
Five were selected to join this new order: Saidan Dathrohan, Tirion Fordring, Gavinrad the Dire, Uther, and Turalyon. They became the first Paladins, and Uther was chosen to be their leader. The Paladins were sorely needed, as the Horde had created new warriors of their own: the first Death Knights.
Alonsus Faol gave each of his Paladins a holy tome representing core traits of the Silver Hand. These ancient relics were meant to help the Paladins become living embodiments of the virtues their tomes represented. Turalyon's tome was the Libram of Protection.
Protecting Quel'thalas
During this time, Turalyon met the High Elf Alleria Windrunner, who brought a group of rangers from Quel'thalas to help with the war effort. Turalyon was extremely taken by the beautiful High Elf from the start. Though she was less impressed by him, she found herself developing feelings for him over time.
Turalyon fought in battles in Hillsbrad and Southshore. When it became clear that the Horde were planning to launch an assault on Quel'thalas, Turalyon was sent with Alleria and the human mage Khadgar to intercept the enemy forces. The Alliance forces were able to fight off the Horde's advance, but only at the cost of many lives. Alleria lost many family members, including her mother, Lireesa, and her younger brother, Lirath. Broken-hearted, she found comfort in Turalyon's arms, but when he found out about the loss and tried to speak with her about it the next day, Alleria pulled away - and from then on was nothing but cold towards him. Turalyon was hurt, but he didn't have much time to dwell as he had a war to focus on.
At some point, Alleria and Turalyon had a son named Arator. It's not clear when, or if Alleria told Turalyon about him right away.
Soon after, Turalyon and Alleria returned to Lordaeron at the head of an army of High Elf forces. They were able to break the Orcish siege on Lordaeron, though this was in part because the warlock Gul'dan had betrayed his leader, Ogrim Doomhammer, forcing the Horde leader to split his forces. Doomhammer retreated to Blackrock Spire, where the Horde took their final stand agains the Alliance's forces.
The Final Battle
In the mighty battle that followed, Anduin Lothar was slain by Ogrim Doomhammer himself. Doomhammer expected the Alliance to lose their nerve after the death of their leader. Turalyon, who had always struggled with his faith, fell down next to the body of his mentor and leader. As he heard Doomhammer gloat about how the Orcs would take Azeroth for their own, Turalyon came to a realization. He had been wondering how the Light could unite all creatures when creatures as terrible as the Orcs existed. However, Ogrim's words made him realize the Orcs weren't from his world - the Light united all the creatures of Azeroth, but not these invading monsters.
Turalyon had found his faith, and he began to glow with a brilliant light. He took up Lothar's broken sword and used it to defeat Doomhammer. Seeing their leader captured had a strong demoralizing effect on the Orcs, and the Alliance won easily after that. During the same battle, Uther's faith had been so strong, he was able to empower the Alliance soldiers with a prayer to the Light. Turalyon, now commander of the Alliance forces, gave Uther the title 'Lightbringer'.
The Alliance forces followed the Horde as they retreated to the Dark Portal, where they destroyed the gateway. Those Orcs that remained were captured and put into internment camps.
Beyond the Dark Portal
Like most of the Alliance, Turalyon's focus after the Second War was to help rebuild. He aided King Varian Wrynn and helped ensure the stability of Stormwind.
A few years after the war, Turalyon received worrying news from his old friend Khadgar: another Dark Portal had opened and a new Orcish invasion seemed to have begun. Turalyon headed straight for Nethergarde Keep in the Blasted Lands, which had been built specifically to keep an eye on the Portal. It soon became clear that there was something different about this invasion. Turalyon himself interrogated a captive Orc Death Knight, and he learned of the Horde's plans.
The Horde had a new leader, Ner'zhul, and their true purpose in Azeroth was not to invade, but to collect powerful artifacts that they would then use on Draenor to open new portals onto other worlds.
The Sons of Lothar
After the interrogation, a Naaru appeared to Turalyon, encouraging him to continue his fight against the Orcs. Turalyon realized he couldn't allow the Orcs to do to other worlds what they had done to his own, and he formed the "Sons of Lothar" - a group of Alliance heroes that would go through the Dark Portal itself and put an end to the Horde threat forever. Many Alliance heroes joined Turalyon's group, including Alleria Windrunner, Khadgar, Kudran Wildhammer, and Danath Trollbane. Together with Turalyon, statues of these heroes stand outside of Stormwind to this day.
Together, the brave volunteers marched through the Dark Portal and found themselves on the dying world of Draenor, where they established the Alliance fortress Honor Hold, and began to plan the assault on Ner'zhul and the Horde.
Romance with Alleria
It was here where Turalyon and Alleria rekindled their relationship. Turalyon wanted Alleria to stay behind and guard the hold. Ever since the loss of her people, Alleria had seemed so focussed on revenge, Turalyon worried for her safety, as he felt she was becoming reckless. His suggestion only made her angry. In the fight that followed, a lot came out, including the way Alleria had suddenly grown so cold towards Turalyon. She confessed that it had been his attempt to talk about the loss she had gone through - she couldn't mourn, because if she did, it would mean those people who she loved so much were really gone. However, she finally found herself able to mourn - and to heal.
The Sons of Lothar set about attacking the Horde forces, beginning with Hellfire Citadel, where they made the worrying discovery of the presence of the Black Dragonflight. After their victory at the Citadel, it became clear that the Sons of Lothar would have to split. One of the relics the Horde had stolen from Azeroth was the Skull of Gul'dan - even though the treacherous warlock had died, his skull still carried a great deal of power. However, Khadgar discovered that the Skull had been taken north, while Ner'zhul had traveled south.
Kudran Wildhammer and Danath Trollbane - took command of the forces that pursued Ner'zhul. Turalyon, Alleria, and Khadgar, meanwhile, took their forces north to Gorgrond in pursuit of the Skull of Gul'dan.
The Skull of Guldan
In Gorgrond, they discovered a war between the local Gronn and dragons from the Black Dragonflight - lead by Deathwing himself. It seemed Deathwing was in possession of the Skull of Gul'dan. Turalyon was able to convince Gruul, leader of the Gronn, that his people were also enemies of the Black Dragons, and promised to help defeat Deathwing. By attacking the Black Dragonflight's unguarded eggs, they were able to lure Deathwing out into the open and defeat him.
With the Skull of Gul'dan now in their possession, Turalyon and his forces headed back south to meet with the rest of the Sons of Lothar outside of the Temple of Gul'dan. As they assaulted the temple, Turalyon found himself facing off against the Teron Gorefiend. The death knight cast a spell of doubt nd horrific visions on Turalyon's mind. It was Turalyon's love for Alleria that helped him find the Light and fight the effects of the spell, and he defeated the death knight, though Teron Gorefiend's soul was still able to escape.
The Sons of Lothar reached the top of the temple, but too late. Ner'zhul had managed to open several portals all over Draenor - but they had torn too many holes in the fabric of reality and Draenor was being torn apart. Turalyon and Khadgar realized the Dark Portal would allow the destruction to spill over into Azeroth, risking their home. They realized that the only way to save Azeroth was to destroy the Dark Portal - and with it, their only way home.
When they reached the Dark Portal they met Horde forces fleeing into Azeroth. In the battle that followed, Khadgar released the power of the Skull of Gul'dan - the resulting explosion destroyed the Dark Portal completely.
Aftermath of the destruction of the Dark Portal
Azeroth was saved, but the Sons of Lothar were trapped on a dying world. They entered into one of the volatile rifts, where Alleria and Turalyon were separated from the rest of their forces. It would be years before they would be heard from again.
When another portal between Azeroth and Draenor, now Outland, opened during the Burning Crusade, the expedition into Outland found most of the Sons of Lothar, including Danath Trollbane - who had become their leader - and Khadgar, but they found no trace of Alleria and Turalyon. Arator, who had grown up to become a Paladin like his father, joined this expedition, and players could speak to him to learn of his recurring dream - a crimson sky, with the Legion numbering beyond comprehension in the distance, and he kneels before the body of his father, who is trying to tell him something - though Arator can't hear him.
The Twisting Nether
When they were separated from their allies, Turalyon and Alleria found themselves in the Twisting Nether, the astral plane between the Light and the Void. Though worried about the rest of his expedition, Turalyon was grateful to the Light for the fact that at least he and Alleria were together. As they searched for their friends, they met Lothraxion, a Nathrezim who had abandoned the Legion and joined the Army of the Light.
Lothraxion warned them that an assassin was tracking them, and urged them to join the Army of the Light. He trained Turalyon until the Paladin was literally glowing - this annoyed Alleria as it interfered with her night vision, but Turalyon was able to soften his glow. At Turalyon and Alleria's request, Lothraxion left them to deal with the assassin themselves.
The assassin impersonated Turalyon, but Alleria tricked him into revealing he didn't know the name of their son and buried a dagger in his neck. As they dispatched the threat, the Naaru Xe'ra appeared to them and told them more about the threat they faced. Xe'ra warned that the Burning Legion would eventually overcome Azeroth if they didn't act. She told them that they seemed destined to discover "an emerald star", which Xera believed would help finally defeat the Legion once and for all.
Knowing what it would cost, Alleria and Turalyon agreed to join the Army of the Light. Turalyon told Xe'ra he would do anything to protect his son and his people, even give his life, but he believed in his heart he would see Arator again.
The Army of the Light
The Army of the Light's headquarters was on a dimensional ship called the Xenedar, and Alleria and Turalyon spent many years there, training and fighting the Legion. Xe'ra eventually infused Turalyon with the Light - granting him immortality. On the same day, Alleria had a vision of their son, a few years older than she had last seen him, and Xe'ra promised that they would meet again.
While Turalyon continued to train with the Light and joined the Council of Exarchs. Alleria trained as well, even learning how to imbue her arrows with the Light, but she never quite achieved the level of closeness to the Light that he did. During a raid, she was infected with the Void and witnessed a range of visions. This caused her to be curious about the Void, and she set out to discover all she could, eventually learning of a being named the Locus-Walker who could teach her more. Alleria approached Xe'ra about tracking down the Locus-Walker, reasoning that the Void could be useful in the fight against the Legion, but the Naaru expressly forbade it. Alleria, however, carried on learning what she could about the Void, though she kept her training secret from both Xe'ra and Turalyon.
Time in the Twisting Nether moved differently to time in Azeroth - what had been a few years for their son had been decades for Alleria and Turalyon. By the time the Burning Legion had invaded Outland and the Dark Portal had been reopened, they had been with the Army of the Light for over five hundred years. Around this time, Alleria told Xe'ra of a vision she'd had. She was walking on the Draenor homeworld of Argus - which had become the home of the Burning Legion - and she had the emerald star.
The Light and the Shadow
With the Legion's focus on Outland, Argus had never been less defended. Xe'ra agreed to send Alleria and Turalyon to the world, hoping that Alleria's vision meant that they were destined to find the emerald star there. On their journey, Alleria confided to Turalyon that the vision she'd had wasn't from the Light, and that Xe'ra would object to them she knew. Turalyon responded that, no matter what, he trusted Alleria.
On Argus, Alleria had another vision - this time of the titan world soul at the heart of the planet - imprisoned by green, corrupting fires of fel. Alleria and Turalyon realized Argus itself was the emerald star. They hurried to their transporter but found their way blocked by endless ranks of demons. At first, they fought with the Light, but the number of demons was too many, and it seemed like they were doomed to failure. This was when Alleria called on the Void. She opened a rift to the Twisting Nether and dragged Turalyon through it to safety.
Turalyon, who had become so close to the Light, felt incredible pain as he went through the rift. Alleria knew why - the Light and the Shadow could not exist together. This soon became even more evident - Turalyon, shocked by Alleria's use of the Void, tried to encourage her to return and ask for help from Xe'ra. He grabbed Alleria's hands, but the pain they both immediately felt forced him to let go. Turalyon, as a being of the Light, would never be able to touch Alleria while she was in her Void form.
Knowing she could not return to the Xenedar, Alleria told Turalyon to go without her - but begged him to remember that they were not enemies, not now, nor never. Then she opened another Void portal and fled. Turalyon tried to reach out to her, and tears fell down his cheeks. It would be a long time before he would see Alleria again.
Reuinion
Eventually, Turalyon became High Exarch of the Army of the Light. He helped launch multiple assaults against Argus, but they were never able to accomplish more than a few raids on the planet. They would open a rift from the Xenedar directly to Argus, sneak through, and perform a hit an run attack. However, when the Legion successfully set up barriers, Turalyon realized they wouldn't be able to do even that anymore.
Turalyon reported his defeat to Xe'ra, but also knew she would have expected as much. The Naaru had foretold that champions on Azeroth were the only hope in fighting the Burning Legion, so all her efforts were on helping them. The fact that she knew Turalyon was destined to fail but didn't try to help him change that destiny hurt Turalyon a great deal.
Soon after Turalyon's final, failed assault on Argus, Lothraxion brought him the news that the body of a dead woman had been found on the Xenedar. Worried that it could be Alleria, Turalyon rushed to investigate, promptly falling for the trap of the same assassin that had once stalked him an Alleria through the Twisting Nether. Wanting to gloat, the assassin told Turalyon that Alleria was still alive while it prepared to trap his and Lothraxion's souls. Turalyon tried to call on the Light, but found himself being overcome.
Alleria, meanwhile, had been unlocking her Void powers, and just had a vision of Turalyon's impending death. Deciding that she couldn't live without him, she opened a portal to the Xenedar just in time to save her husband.
The difference in Alleria was shocking to Turalyon. She no longer could wield the Light, and she had displayed terrifyingly strong Void powers. Despite that, Turalyon told her that he did not believe she was lost to the darkness. She had not crossed that threshold. Knowing Xe'ra would not feel the same way, Turalyon tried to tell Alleria to flee, but she refused. Before he could argue with her further, the Naaru herself appeared.
Turalyon begged Xe'ra to show Alleria mercy, and the Naaru offered Alleria the chance to renounce the Void and show obedience to the Light - but while Alleria swore to fight the Burning Legion, she could not renounce her Void powers. Xe'ra imprisoned the High Elf, stating that the imprisonment would last until Alleria again accepted the path of righteousness.
Though the incident left Turalyon in turmoil, it also left him certain of one thing: He would always trust Alleria. He would always fight for her. And she would always do the same for him.
Legion
Light's Heart
After a thousand years of war, the Army of the Light was on its last legs. Turalyon recorded a last, desperate plea, and sent it to Azeroth in the vessel known as Light's Heart - which he called the Army of Light's ultimate sacrifice. Light's Heart was brought to Turalyon's old friend Khadgar. The image of Turalyon begged that the vessel be taken to Velen, warning that if they failed, all worlds would burn. Velen recognized Light's Heart as the core of the Naaru Xe'ra.
Turalyon also used Light's Heart to contact the Knights of the Silver Hand. During the
Paladin Class Order Hall
questline, as part of the quest
子嗣的遗产
, players were able to witness Turalyon's image speaking to his son, Arator.
High Exarch Turalyon says: Arator. Son.
Vindicator Boros says: The vessel... it senses young Arator's presence.
High Exarch Turalyon says: If you can hear this, I have an important message.
High Exarch Turalyon says: For ages, I have hunted the Burning Legion across the stars.
High Exarch Turalyon says: In retribution, the dreadlord Balnazzar has been sent to Azeroth to destroy all that I hold dear.
High Exarch Turalyon says: You must gather the defenders of the Light, Arator. Keep the Light alive. Fight, or ALL is lost.
High Exarch Turalyon says: Farewell, son. Do not lose faith, for it is in the darkest moments that the light shines brightest.
With the help of players and the Tears of Elune, Velen unlocked Light's Heart, creating a link between the vessel and the Naaru herself so that Xe'ra could communicate with those on Azeroth directly. Xe'ra organized for Illadin Stormrage's soul to be returned to his body, as she believed he was the "child of Light and Shadow", destined to defeat the Legion, of prophecy.
When the Nathrezim Balnazzar attacked Netherlight Temple, the
Priest Order Hall
, both Paladins and Priests worked together to fight off the attack, and Turalyon sent Lothraxion to help them. The demons were defeated, and Lothraxion stayed on Azeroth to help the Paladins.
Argus
After defeating Kil'jaeden in the Tomb of Sargeras, Illidan Stormrage opened a rift between Argus and Azeroth, making Argus visible in Azeroth's sky. After the Battle for the Exodar, Prophet Velen ordered the Light's Chosen to make the necessary preparations to leave. The Draenei created a dimensional ship called the Vindicaar especially for the purpose to return to Argus, where Velen planned to meet with the Army of the Light and begin the invasion of the Burning Legion's homeworld. Many traveled with on the Vindicaar, including the player, Illidin, and Arator.
However, as they arrived on Argus, they witnessed the Xenedar being shot down by Legion forces. Though horrified by the sight, Velen and the Light's Chosen still determined to make their last stand - with or without the Army of the Light. The Vindicaar landed and Velen took a small expedition with him to establish a base on the world. For now, Arator stayed on the ship.
Turalyon's life was saved by local Krokul - Broken who lived on Argus. Velen's expedition, which included the player, also
met up
with these Krokul - and were astonished, but very pleased, to find Turalyon alive. Lothraxion reunited with Turalyon, and during the quest
汇合
, the player could witness them speak about the fate of Alleria, who was still being held captive at the time of the crash.
Lothraxion says: Turalyon! I am pleased you continue to thwart the Legion's best efforts to kill you.
Lothraxion says: What of Alleria? Is she...?
High Exarch Turalyon says: The last time I saw her was on the Xenedar. She was still... under guard.
High Exarch Turalyon says: Alleria's still out there somewhere, old friend. I know it. And other survivors as well.
High Exarch Turalyon says: But thousands of demons stand between us and our allies. We must thin the Legion's ranks to have any hope of reaching the Xenedar alive.
Lothraxion says: Then that is what we will do, High Exarch.
As the Light's Chosen continued pushing their way into Argus, they came up against the Pit Lord Aggonar during the quest
直击要害
. In the battle against the Pit Lord, players were able to witness Alleria's return and reunion with Turalyon.
High Exarch Turalyon says: Alleria! Perfect timing, as always.
Alleria Windrunner says: I have made a habit of saving you from the grasp of demons.
Alleria Windrunner yells: The beast weakens. Strike true!
High Exarch Turalyon yells: Focus your attacks. I'll hold his attention.
Alleria Windrunner says: Are you alright, Turalyon?
High Exarch Turalyon says: I am. In no small part thanks to our friend here. But Alleria... there's something else.
High Exarch Turalyon says: When the ship from Azeroth arrived, I sensed his presence. I would know it from anywhere, even after all the years we've spent apart.
Alleria Windrunner says: Arator! He's here!
Alleria and Turalyon returned to the Vindicaar, where, at long last, they reunited with their son, Arator. When players accepted the quest
回到维迪卡尔
, they could witness Alleria and Turalyon confiding to each other about how nervous they were.
Alleria Windrunner says: Every day for a thousand years, I've thought about what I wanted to say to him. Now, though... words fail me.
High Exarch Turalyon says: I know, my love. I feel the same. But once we see our son, our hearts will speak for us.
On the Vindecaar itself, players were able to overhear this short conversation:
Arator the Redeemer says: But... couldn't you have reached out to us? To your people? To me?
High Exarch Turalyon says: Arator... not a day passed that your mother and I didn't--
Alleria Windrunner says: Every choice we made was to keep you safe. It broke our hearts to be apart from you.
Xe'ra and Illidan
However much Turalyon had longed for this reunion, he didn't have a lot of time to enjoy it. As he explained to the player during the quest
聚集圣光
, the Naaru Xe'ra was still in the remains of the crashed Xenedar. Though Alleria worried Xe'ra might want to make her a prisoner again, Turalyon was sure that helping to rescue the Naaru would earn her forgiveness. As they discussed during the quest
圣光之母
:
High Exarch Turalyon says: I sense Xe'ra in the central chamber. Thank the Light! We are not too late.
Alleria Windrunner says: And what then? I was locked in a cell for delving into the Void against her wishes. Will she make me a prisoner again? Or worse?
High Exarch Turalyon says: Xe'ra will see that you risked your life to save her. Her faith in you will be restored--I know it!
Players helped Alleria and Turalyon rescue Xe'ra and bring her back to the Vindecaar, where she wasted no time confronting Illidan on his destiny. Xe'ra tried to convince Illadin to accept her blessing, to allow her to heal his scars and fill him with the Light's power. When Illidan rejected her gift - stating that he'd traded his freedom for power before - Xe'ra tried to force the Light onto him, insisting that he absolutely had to fulfill his destiny.
An enraged Illidan fought back, finally shattering the Naaru in front of everyone. Turalyon, horrified by what he'd just witnessed, attacked Illidan, shouting that he'd doomed them all. Illidan stopped Turalyon's attack and confronted the Paladin on the blindness of his faith.
Your faith has blinded you. There can be no 'chosen one'. Only we can save ourselves.
Defeating the Legion
Religious differences aside, the Legion still remained a threat, and one both Turalyon and Illidan were determined to see defeated. Turalyon continued to help secure footholds in Argus. During the quest
估量对手
, players were able to witness a reunion between Alleria, Turalyon, and their old friend, Khadgar.
Archmage Khadgar says: It is good to see you again, my friends. When I couldn't find you after the devastation of Draenor, I wasn't sure what to think.
High Exarch Turalyon says: We feared for you as well, Khadgar. But I think part of me knew it would take more than the explosion of a planet to slow you down.
Alleria Windrunner says: Kurdran and Danath are safe as well?
Archmage Khadgar says: Indeed, though I don't get to see them as often as I'd like. When this is all behind us, perhaps the Sons of Lothar should share a reunion feast!
High Exarch Turalyon says: I agree. It's been a long time, but as I recall it was your turn to buy the drinks, Khadgar.
Archmage Khadgar says: Well, I don't know about that...
Alleria Windrunner says: Definitely your turn. Never question an elf's memory... even after a thousand years.
During a later quest,
执政团之影
, it's discovered that the Naaru L'ura must have fallen to the void. Turalyon is shocked and disbelieving - it seems that not once during his thousand years with the Army of the Light did Xe'ra reveal the fact that this could happen.
Prophet Velen says: Come. I dare not tarry here.
High Exarch Turalyon says: Talgath's last words... Not even the Light can escape. What did he mean?
Prophet Velen says: The darkness that lingers in the temple... the shadow that looms over all of Mac'Aree... is L'ura.
High Exarch Turalyon says: Impossible. She is a naaru! A being of the Light!
Prophet Velen says: There is much Xe'ra did not want you to know.
Alleria would be the one to defeat L'ura. In fact, the High Elf absorbed the fallen Naaru's essence - contributing even further to her powers of the Void, and therefore sending her even further away from Turalyon's reach.
Turalyon saw the war against the Legion to its end - and was at the final battle against Sargeras. After the fallen titan had been defeated, the player could speak to Turalyon, and he would reply:
At long last, the war is over.
Part of me never expected to survive to see this day. So many battles. So much loss.
<Turalyon sighs, his eyes brimming with a flood of emotions.>
Now we return home to a world I haven't walked in a thousand years.
My old life is long past. It is time to build a new one, and get to know the son who embodies everything I fought for.
Aftermath of the Legion Invasion
Growing separation from Alleria
With the thousand-year war finally over, Turalyon and Alleria were finally able to return to Stormwind, where they saw their statues for the first time. Alleria was also determined to return to her homeland and meet Sylvanas, her sister. Turalyon was uncomfortable with the idea, and tried to persuade Alleria to at least inform King Anduin of her plans, but she refused.
Alleria told Turalyon that she needed to know if she still had a family. When he gently began to point out he was her family, she interrupted him impatiently to say he knew what she meant. Turalyon suggested he come with her, but she discouraged him, insisting he would be bored - and also too distracting. When Turalyon reached out to touch her affectionately, Alleria pulled away. Though Turalyon couldn't see it, the Void had begun to whisper in Alleria's head, encouraging her to kill him and "free" him from his bond with the Light.
As Alleria left, Turalyon promised her that he would tell Arator that she sends her love, and quietly added that he would remind himself of the same thing. Though the Legion was defeated and there was no more call to war or risk of imprisonment, all wasn't quite well. The once inseparable couple now had a rift growing between them, and it only seemed to be getting bigger.
Before the Storm
Now settled in Stormwind City, Turalyon began the steady process of adjusting to life in a world that had changed so much since he left it. During the events of Legion, King Anduin had become struck by the way that priests of both factions and all races, even the Undead race of the Forsaken, worked together in harmony in Netherlight Temple. Following the death of a beloved servant, the King became interested in the idea of reuniting some Forsaken with their still-living human family members.
Turalyon was absolutely against the idea, believing it to be fundamentally against the Light's intentions and purpose. In an attempt to win Turalyon over, Anduin brought him to the Cathedral of Light to meet Alonsus Faol. The Archbishop who had once created the order of Paladins had since died, yet he still served as a Priest, despite being Undead. For Turalyon, this was nothing short of blasphemy, but when Alonsus challenged Turalyon to look for the Light within him, Turalyon saw and realized the Undead Priest was still his old friend. He knelt in front of Alonsus Faol and accepted his blessing.
Battle for Azeroth
New Allies
As the Forth War loomed closer, both the Alliance and the Horde sought out new allies. Alleria and Turalyon both played an important role - though once again showing the difference that had developed between them - as Alleria reached out to Void Elves, while Turalyon pledged the Army of the Light - bringing the Alliance Lightforged Draenei. During the quest
光铸者
, Turalyon would tell the player,
You have seen what my people are capable of firsthand. We have been forged over millennia as specialists against the Legion.
Now, I believe it is time to take up arms alongside our brothers and sisters of the Alliance.
Join us at the Vindicaar. I believe we have much to discuss with Captain Fareeya.
Turalyon and the player traveled to the Vindicaar, now acting as the Army of the Light's new headquarters, and witnessed the trials of a prospective Lightforged named T'paartos.
Captain Fareeya says: I did not expect you back so soon, High Exarch. I assume your meeting with the king went well?
High Exarch Turalyon says: Indeed. He is eager to have the Army of the Light fighting on the side of the Alliance. Assemble our forces, captain, and I will make the announcement.
Captain Fareeya says: You know how fond I am of your speeches, but can't it wait? We were just about to send these initiates to undertake the trials.
High Exarch Turalyon says: Ah, this is excellent timing, champion. You can see firsthand what it means for a soldier to become Lightforged. Proceed, Fareeya.
Players were able to assist T'paartos as he earned his place in the Army of the Light. Once done, the Lightforged Draenei joined the Alliance.
Vision of N'Zoth
The Forth War ended when the Warchief Sylvanas, who had been the main instigator, left the Horde in a fury and disappeared. However, a looming threat had been growing for some time: the Void - in the form of the Old God N'Zoth.
When N'Zoth attacked Azeroth, he played mind games with the population by sending them horrific visions. In one of these visions - the Horrific Vision of Stormwind - Alleria had finally fallen to the Void and struck out at her husband as he attempted to reason with her. A dying Turalyon begged the player to save their son, but Alleria would go on to murder Arator as well.
High Exarch Turalyon: My dear wife Alleria may be lost, but my son is still in there. I know he lives, I can feel it. Let us do this one last thing together. Let us find him, and free him.
Corrupted Alleria Windrunner: Oh Bravo, well done my husband.
High Exarch Turalyon: You are not my wife, you are a monster!
Corrupted Alleria Windrunner: Tsk tsk, is that any way to talk to the mother of your child?
High Exarch Turalyon: Arator! Where is he?
Corrupted Alleria Windrunner: Come inside the Cathedral, we will be waiting for you my dear.
High Exarch Turalyon: Go, disrupt whatever evil is happening in Stormwind. Once I recover, I will meet you at the Cathedral and we will free my son together.
Though this was just a vision, and these events never actually happened, it did play on some very real fears.
However, the Alliance and Horde banded together once again, and ultimately, managed to defeat N'Zoth.
Aftermath of the Fourth War
After killing N'Zoth, it was possible for the player to witness a conversation between Alleria and Turalyon, that took place just outside of Stormwind.
High Exarch Turalyon says: I thought I’d find you here. It’s a place you often visit when something’s on your mind.
Alleria Windrunner says: Perhaps these statues remind me of a… simpler time.
High Exarch Turalyon says: So much has happened since our return to Azeroth. The wounding of the world… the war against the Horde…
Alleria Windrunner says: War I understand. We both do. But I expected to be fighting with two sisters at my side. Instead, I faced one of them in battle--or at least, what remains of her.
High Exarch Turalyon says: Has the downfall of the Old God brought you at least a measure of peace?
Alleria Windrunner says: The whispers did not end with his defeat. In fact, it seems new voices have joined the chorus. When I think of the nightmare he forced into my mind…
High Exarch Turalyon says: I witnessed them, too. But they didn’t shake my faith in you. Not for a moment.
Alleria Windrunner says: Nor mine for you, my love. Enough reflection. We have a job to do--hunt down Sylvanas… and make her pay.
Shadows Rising
After some time, the Alliance received some evidence that Sylvanas may be in Zandalar: some of their scouts were killed with arrows similar to the ones her Dark Rangers used. Anduin Wrynn discussed this evidence in a meeting with Genn Greymane and Turalyon. In this meeting, Turalyon suggested the possibility that Sylvanas wanted revenge against the Zandalari queen Talanji. Sylvanas was the one who made an ally out of Talanji to begin with, and she might have expected the Troll queen to be loyal to Sylvanas rather than to the Horde. Genn wanted to send a fighting force into Zandalar immediately, but Anduin hesitated. The Alliance and Horde had signed an armistice soon after Sylvanas had fled, and Anduin didn't want to do anything that might compromise that. Turalyon agreed with Anduin that they should be cautious.
For this reason, Anduin chose Turalyon and Alleria to journey to Zandalar and investigate. He named him Lord Commander of the Alliance forces and gave him the task of finding Sylvanas Windrunner so that they could bring her to justice. On their journey, Turalyon and Alleria slept in separate tents, but the affection between them remained strong. Alleria reflected on the fact that Turalyon could see the darkness in her, but he accepted it. While many would consider their relationship impossible, their love was enduring.
Turalyon and Alleria's scouts brought them news of a group of Horde refugees in the Arathi Highlands, impoverished and homeless after the war. The refugees had been seen with a cloaked and red-eyed woman that sounded very much like a Dark Ranger. Once they tracked the refugees down, Turalyon promised blankets and provisions as long as they provided the information he and Alleria requested. However, the refugees refused to talk. Alleria's connection with the Void helped her to identify a refugee who would be able to give them information - an Orc mother. She would be able to rip the information out of the Orc with her Void powers. While Turalyon's connection to the Light meant he would prefer to show mercy, he also understood the importance of obtaining the information, and quickly. He requested that Alleria allowed him to question the Orc first - to give her a chance to provide the information without them having to resort to torture.
All that Turalyon was able to get from the Orc was her name - Gowzis. He was still reluctant to allow Alleria to use her methods, worrying at what they were becoming. However, he agreed with Alleria that they had to stop Sylvanas, whatever the cost. He restrained Gowzis with golden cuffs of Light while Alleria used the Void to plunge into the Orc's mind. The sight of Gowzis in such pain shocked the leader of the refugees, a Forsaken named Apothecary Cotley, and he agreed to tell them the information they wanted. Cotley told Alleria and Turalyon that the Dark Ranger had chartered a boat at Faldir's Cove, and that her name was Visrynn. Having obtained the information they had come to get, Alleria gave the orders to provide the refugees with food, water, and blankets, and for the Forsaken Cotley to be taken to Stormwind as a prisoner.
After some time, Anduin worried at the apparent lack of progress from Alleria and Turalyon, and sent Jaina to check on them. Jaina found the two interrogating a human man the same way they did the Orc Gowzis - Alleria searching his mind with the Void while Turalyon kept him chained with the Light. Jaina was shocked by these methods. Turalyon informed her that the man sheltered and smuggled Sylvanas's Dark Ranger Visrynn, and showed her a dagger that the man had - clearly Forsaken in design. Jaina was still bothered by their interrogation methods and questioned them about it, and it was Turalyon who defended themselves. His justification was that Alleria wasn't harming the man too much, and that Turalyon was able to heal him with the Light when it was all over.
Jaina found his placation, that "all will make sense in time", condescending. She was also troubled by Turalyon's defense of the way they were using the Light and Void - abusing it in her eyes. She reported the way that they were torturing the smuggler to Anduin, and was surprised to find he supported their methods. Anduin told Jaina that difficult decisions had to be made, and he trusted Turalyon and Alleria enough to know the line and to not cross it.
With the information Alleria and Turalyon had uncovered in the Arathi Highlands, Mathias Shaw, leader of the Alliance's secret police, journeyed to Zandalar to discover more. Later, Alleria and Turalyon attended a dinner hosted by the Proudmoores in Tiragarde Sound. Turalyon ate a great deal, and Jaina believed he kept his mouth full specifically to avoid conversation. The meeting had been requested by Anduin, though he didn't attend, and the purpose was to develop a second plan if Mathias should fail.
The meeting was interrupted by Flynn Fairwind, a former pirate captain that had journeyed with Mathias, who had brought the news that Mathias had been captured by Zandalari forces. Flynn brought arrows from Zandalar that Turalyon recognized as the same Dark Ranger arrows that had killed the Alliance scouts, and saw it as final proof that Dark Rangers were indeed in Zandalar, causing him to worry that Sylvanas really was in Zuldazar, conspiring with Talanji. This time Jaina calmed Turalyon with talks of the armistice, advising that they continue to act with caution.
Later, it was shown that Anduin worries about Alleria and Turalyon, among his other concerns.
