Necrolord Windwalker Monk Covenant Abilities
Necrolord Windwalker Monk Class Ability
The Necrolord Class Ability for Monks of all specializations is
. This is an interesting ability as it is the strongest of all Covenants in sustained AOE, but the weakest in Single Target, meaning that you'll really be a specialist in one and not very strong in the other. This ability is at its strongest in Mythic+ or fights where you have a bunch of targets to hit during its window, and may promote just spamming the heck out of
and ignoring Mastery, but that will take time to test and math out.
You'll want to use this after you've already generated stacks for
and have Chi to use on
and
.
Necrolord Conduit for
The
conduit for
merely increases the damage that you do during its duration and lets you use it more. If you're going to go with Necrolord, this will be a very powerful increase in damage.

Necrolord Windwalker Monk Signature Ability
The Necrolord Signature Ability for Monks of all specializations is
. This is a 3 second channeled ability that provides a shield that is equal to 40% of your maximum health with a 20% damage reduction while you channel.
This ability will be someone difficult to use since you have to channel for 3 seconds for the full benefit. For any telegraphed damage, you will generally have a cooldown being used, so the additional buff may not be needed. Also, because it is channeled, it cannot be used as an emergency button. This may see some situational use where you have the time to cast it before a damage event or there is forced downtime where you can't do anything but channel this.
Necrolord Exclusive Legendary for Windwalker Monk
The Necrolord exclusive legendary for Monks is
. This grants a 1.25 ppm chance to cast
at your target's location. While this is an excellent legendary to play with, feeling great to use in AOE situations like Mythic+, it is simply not strong enough to compete with
's potential. Thankfully with the addition of
in 9.2, you can, and should use
in the Belt slot with
in the Helm or Cloak slot, if you need the Helm slot for the Tier bonus.
Other Legendary Interactions for Necrolord Windwalker Monk
There are currently no determined special interactions between any other Windwalker Legendaries and Necrolord.

Necrolord Windwalker Monk Soulbinds Explained
Across all classes and specs, Necrolords have access to the same three soulbinds:
Plague Deviser Marileth
,
Emeni
and
Bonesmith Heirmir
.They are the NPCs with whom you complete the zone story, and they allow you to "attune" yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and Covenant abilities (through special game-wide traits).
These trees progressively unlock based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your Renown level with the Necrolord Covenant.
I have summarized the Soulbinds below, offering example path’s through the trees, and highlighting any key abilities.
Plague Deviser Marileth is the Soulbind of choice if you're looking to maximize the performance of
. He is the go-to choice for single target damage.
- A small bonus once you use
.
Plague Deviser Marileth provides access to two Potency Conduits, one Endurance Conduit, once choice between all three slots, and two choices between Endurance and Finesse slots.
- This certainly makes it easier to use
and primarily comes as a bonus in PvP or emergency situations.
- Who doesn't want a small oozeling pet that fights with them? Unfortunately he's just not strong enough to push Marileth into consideration against Heirmir.
If you're going to choose Plague Deviser Marileth as your soulbind then an "ideal" path could look like this:
Emeni is the Soulbind with a much harder lean into DPS output over defense. At Max Renown, she pulls ahead of Bonesmith Heirmir due to the final slot, making her the best choice for AOE situations.
- The duration of
is already 10 seconds, so a boost to Agility during that time just makes the damage window more powerful.
Emeni provides access to one Finesse slot, one Potency slot, a choice between a Potency and an Endurance slot, one of each slots, and an Endurance or Finesse slot.
You will almost certainly take the second Potency Conduit over
unless you're killing a lot of small targets over and over again and can maintain the buff at maximum stacks for awhile.
- Some additional healing to allies when you use
, it also deals damage to nearby targets, this is enough to push Emeni into the top spot once you have this slot.
If you're going to choose Emeni as your soulbind then an "ideal" path could look like this:
Bonesmith Heirmir has the interesting aspect of the pseudo-Cheat Death with
and is generally the strongest of the DPS Covenants until Max Renown for damage due to the Agility provided from her base ability.
- This provides an extra few seconds of lifeline before death takes you. It's not the same as being alive, but its better than being dead. The real strength comes in the passive 3% Agility that you should have all the time.
Bonesmith Heirmir provides access to one Finesse slot, one Potency slot, a choice between a Potency and an Endurance slot, one of each slots, and an Endurance or Finesse slot.
You'll likely take the second Potency Conduit over
unless you're especially partial to the big crit numbers.
- This is a small increase in damage, but often during the most important part of many fights. Windwalkers have always lacked an execute, and while this doesn't make up for it entirely, some is better than nothing.
If you're going to choose Bonesmith Heirmir as your Soulbind then an "ideal" path could look like this:
Double Legendaries for Necrolord Windwalker Monk
Patch 9.2 adds the option of using two legendaries at the same time, with the restriction that one of them is your Covenant legendary. This change empowers Necrolord Windwalker Monk even more. You can learn more about it in our Legendary Guide.
