Welcome to Wowhead's Windwalker Monk Arena PvP Guide, up to date for 9.2! In this section of the guide, we will cover the best talents for Windwalker Monks in Arena PvP, optimal PvP Talent builds, and the best racials for both Alliance and Horde Windwalker Monks in PvP. Windwalker Monks have a lot of variability in their talent build, providing you with flexibility for each situation. There are a few strong racials for Windwalker Monks in PvP.

Recommended Talent Build for Windwalker Monks in PvP
Tier 1 - Situational
This row is completely up to personal preference.
真气波
does the most damage even if the damage is still small. It also resets Mastery and gets you in combat at a 40 yard range but is delayed by at least a second before you get in combat. This talent is always my preference.
真气爆裂
can be used to get people out of stealth, pretty much its only use in PvP.
猛虎之眼
against command stealth classes like Rogue or Arcane Mage is very useful because it's a physical DoT which will get them out of Vanish, Mass invisibility and Meld. So yes, this is a utility row disguised as damage.
Tier 2 -
迅如猛虎
Always choose this in any situation, the utility is too good to give up over the alternatives that only give you a mobility increase.
Tier 3 -
白虎拳
/
真气升腾
Another preference row, I always recommend picking
白虎拳
because gaining 3 Chi in 1 global while doing a fair amount of damage AND not having to press Tiger Palm to gain said Chi was very good in most situations where crowd control is involved.
真气升腾
is a talent that just allowed you to store more resources and increased your energy regeneration that you would never use in PvP unless you had 100% uptime, effectively just being a throwaway talent that didn’t give you much benefit except sometimes when you mess up your rotation it gives you +1 Chi. I highly recommend playing Fist.
Tier 4 -
平心之环
With
扫堂腿
now being a baseline ability and
平心之环
being a very viable option now, it's worth considering taking this spell. I'd say it's one of the most interesting spells in the game because there are so many implications for it. It can still be a little gimmicky because you have to be out of crowd control to use it, in range (though it's not that hard to be in range) and you have to angle it fairly well to do what you want to do correctly. More about this ability is toward the end of the guide.

has been changed and it is far less useful than its other version in PvP. It seems this is because the only comps you would play
善恶有报
with, you were pressing
业报之触
at very high health and trying not to be killed through it. The biggest culprit of this is RMP since the Mortal Strike effect (in this case, from Wound Poison) affects all of your healing. This
善恶有报
talent becomes far less useful from stopping those teams from killing you through
业报之触
. I’ve found RoP to be more helpful surviving in almost every situation than
善恶有报
against these compositions. The only comps I suggest taking
善恶有报
against at the moment are Shadow Priest comps with no mortal strike effect on their team, though even then, RoP still seems to be outperforming it.
Tier 5 -
铁布衫
/
散魔功
If you expect to take a lot of consistent damage while needing to remain aggressive in that particular matchup,
铁布衫
stands out as a strong pick specifically against double melee comps.
However, if you're facing a comp with a caster,
散魔功
will be your go-to as it's one of your best defensive cooldowns in that situation.
Tier 6 -
赤精之舞
This row sees two options being quite close in strength. Both
连击
and
赤精之舞
are viable, with most people currently leaning towards
赤精之舞
. However, as the expansion progresses and our strength starts to scale up, the value of
连击
will go up, so I'm unsure if Windwalkers will eventually swap over to it.
Tier 7 -
升龙霸
With
风火雷电
being off the global cooldown and
屏气凝神
still being as weak as it is, I wouldn’t recommend looking towards anything but
升龙霸
currently unless you're playing with the
雪怒的战甲
Legendary and are fighting a Mage. Unless you meet those criteria, do not spec into
屏气凝神
.
Recommended PvP Talents for Windwalker Monks
PvP talents have been improved immensely for Windwalker, allowing a branch in playstyles with a few different builds for certain scenarios. The build below is pretty safe for most games.
This expansion, honor talents are more situational than before. There is one core talent that I wouldn’t ever recommend speccing out of which would be
怒雷叶轮
due to the damage potential it gives, the slow, and parry.
抓钩武器
- If there is a weapon-wielding melee on the other team you will always play this, especially against Rogues. The duration and cooldown and the fact that its ranged is too good against the likes of Rogues. There's also a niche strategy you can use with Disarm against DKs to disarm them during your team’s damage so they cannot
灵界打击
at low health.
驭风而行
- This talent doesn't see much play but is still incredibly useful in the situations where you would take it over
反向伤害
against specializations like Frost Mages, potential melee cleaves that involve Death Knights, and even Affliction Warlocks sometimes. Essentially this talent just gives you slow removal/immunity to slows during your
翔龙在天
and an area for your teammates to also benefit from the slow removal/immunity. This can be incredibly frustrating for the enemy team to deal with since you're faster and unslowable while they're slowed which makes you unkiteable or unreachable for its duration. Having said that, it is a bit clunky to use since it is a rather small area that trails behind you, so if you're chasing an enemy with this obviously you walk out of your area shortly after and are slowable again. Removing your slow on a 25 second cooldown with a short speed boost can be insanely valuable over time however, which can create the difference between you getting your
金刚震
on the Warlock after they
恶魔法阵:传送
, or getting kited instead.
唤风者
- This talent is completely overshadowed by
驭风而行
in its current state and doesn't do anything spectacular that warrants using it over your other very good talents. Even if you did not have other good talents, there is no reason to ever play this because you have plenty of mobility already and the mobility it gives your teammates is negligible and not controllable.
正中死穴
- You’ll never really spec into this, it doesn’t do anything other than help you quest when you're struggling at low item level.
虎眼酒
- This talent has been bugged for a long time being on a longer global cooldown than other abilities, however it is a
very
large damage source against Plate and Mail wearing classes. It does slightly more damage against Leather classes but not enough to warrant using, and it does reduced damage against Cloth classes (except Destruction Warlocks using Demon Armor, making them equivalent to Mail-wearing classes).
I usually would not take this talent over
抓钩武器
but if you find yourself not in need of
抓钩武器
or you think you need more damage rather than utility you can swap them. A little tip with this talent is that you can cast it while channeling
怒雷破
so it (sort of) nullifies the global cooldown of it in some ways.
反向伤害
- This is no longer a huge damage source and can no longer be used on your teammates, it now only gives one more Chi than it did and heals more. Since Expel Harm only deals 10% of the damage you heal, the damage from this talent is still pathetic and I don’t really recommend taking this talent if you are in a situation that would require one of your utility talents such as
抓钩武器
or
驭风而行
. Even if you’re fighting a double caster comp and there is a spammable slow on the enemy team (namely from Affliction Warlocks and Frost Mages) you would always want to give up the extra healing and Chi in favor of the slow removal. If your situation does not meet any of the above criteria then yes, take this talent.
隔山打牛
- This is a very good utility talent that you can use to avoid getting kited by the likes of Druids and Mages. You would normally never take this talent in BfA since you had better options, but now that those better options are baseline I could easily see myself taking this talent if I were fighting a Restoration Druid/caster in 2v2.
虎中之王
- Even though Haste is not known to be a great stat for Windwalker, having a
very large
amount of Haste all the time provides a fair amount of damage for any class, including ours. This is because it reduces the cooldowns on our main damage abilities, and reduces our channel time of
怒雷破
. This is even more advantageous now that most of our damage comes from the Venthyr pets, and our Xuen. I wouldn’t recommend speccing out of this talent often.
错骨之劫
- A new honor talent that is pretty bad in comparison to others but not the worst we have. The reason this honor talent is bad and likely will not see play outside of niche scenarios where you want more control is you have to either wait 4 seconds for the honor talent to take effect in which time players could have moved away by then, or break your own crowd control early which is very weird and clunky and the effect itself is not very strong to warrant an honor talent slot as of right now.
If you want a baseline setup that would be pretty much useful in every situation, use this:

Optimal Racials for Windwalker Monks in PvP
Alliance
The best race for Alliance is tied between Human and Pandaren. Panda offers so much with
震山掌
now that Human is nerfed. I'd still play Human because of the aesthetic and the extra trinket from
生存意志
because the Panda incapacitate can be gimmicky sometimes whereas it never hurts to have another out for a stun.
Horde
Orc is the best race for Windwalkers, followed by Blood Elf in some scenarios. I'd never recommend Blood Elf over Orc though, the stun reduction from
坚韧
and the damage boost from
血性狂怒
is too good compared to the other races.
