Introduction
This guide is a step-by-step general strategy to be successful in the Battle for Stromgarde Warfront, a new feature added in Battle for Azeroth (BFA). For an explanation of all major Warfronts terms, please visit our

Warfront Queue Requirements
You must be level 120 and ilvl 320 to queue for Warfronts. If it is your first time getting into Warfronts, you will need to complete a small intro questline where you tour Arathi Highlands. The quests

are the beginning of this intro quest and are picked up right next to the Warfront table (Boralus 66, 26 for Alliance and Dazar'alor 52.8, 94.4 for Horde).
Effects of Gear
Overall, gear only affects what you can do best to help contribute to the success of the Warfront. In the middle stages of the battle, there will be a divide in what is important to accomplish. Use these guidelines to determine exactly what strategy will work best for you in the middle stages.
For experienced players queuing in groups or geared players, getting and maintaining base control will be an ideal focus, but no more than half the raid should do so. Enemies don't scale with gear so defeating enemy base captains and defending against attack waves will be much easier with more gear. You will want the majority of the raid focused on gathering resources so if you feel you can lead a squad to handle capturing bases let your other raid members know to focus on gathering.
For low gear players, gathering

solely determines the pace of the Warfront and requires little to no fighting. Occasionally attack waves may get to your base or resource gathering areas in which case you will have to defend those areas. However in those situations you will also have the assistance of friendly NPCs. Later on, after enough gathering, spare resources can be spent on buffs for yourself or teammates to help the final push to defeat the enemy commander.
Horde vs. Alliance Differences
The Battle for Stromgarde is fought from two points of view. Horde players are working to defeat Alliance NPCs, and Alliance players are working to defeat Horde NPCs. While starting locations on the map are opposite as well as differences in the names of troops, buildings, friendly/hostile NPCs, and forward bases; the battle works the exact same regardless of what faction you are playing.
For the simplicity of the guide,
all specifics such as building and troop names will have both their Horde and Alliance counterparts listed.
Anytime a icon is used before a troop, building, or base name; that name is what Horde players should use. An icon before a base or troop name means that is the name Alliance players should use.

The Battle For Stromgarde Warfront Map
Heroic Warfronts
In Patch 8.2, Rise of Azshara, a new version of Warfronts will be available called
Heroic Warfronts
. Heroic Warfronts function mostly the same as the Normal version, which players will undergo the exact same steps normally and win when they defeat the enemy commander. There are some additional changes, alongside enemies dealing more damage and having more health, in Heroic Warfronts.
Normal and Heroic Differences
The health and damage of all enemies has increased and will scale with the number of players in the Warfront.
The cost of Demolishers and Siege Engines has been increased to 160 Iron.
The enemies commander will occasionally join the fight, assaulting your bases and commander. Due to him being very powerful, you will need most of your raid to repel the assault. When you bring the enemy commander down to 60% health, it will cause them to hearth back to the safety of their base.
Heroic Warfront Rewards
Upon winning the Heroic version of the Warfront and completing

Opening Strategy
Retake the Base
The very beginning of the Warfront is very straight forward; all players will jump from their airship into
Ar'gorok
or
Stromgarde Keep
and must defeat the enemy captain to begin the main elements of the battle.

Capture the Mine and the Lumber Camp
Immediately after retaking the base, your team should split evenly between capturing the nearby Mine and the Lumber Camp. Due to the cap on the amount of Lumber players can hold, shared loot on Treants, and abundance of trees, there is a slight advantage to sending a little more to the Lumber Camp initially.

Depending on which base you participated in capturing, collect the maximum amount of that resource type before returning to the base. If you participate in capturing the Mine, loot the Kobolds and mine carts until you have 200

. If you participate in capturing the Lumber Camp, grab the sturdy axe, cut down trees and kill/loot Angry Treants that spawn until you have 100

. Only one player may gain resources from a mine cart or tree. If there are too many players gathering near you try moving to a different location.

Stage 2: General Strategy
After taking both the Lumber Camp and Mine, enemy attack waves will begin to advance. There are 3 main priorities that players need to focus on. These priorities should be split between 2 groups of players.

The overall goal of this stage is to build up the base to the point where you can construct
Demolishers
/
Siege Engines
to destroy the enemy towers and the gate. it is important to never lose control of the Lumber Camp and Mine or your team is put in a bad place where resource gathering stops. More important is to defend the main base otherwise you will lose. While defending you will want to capture some other locations to help in the base defense and upgrading. The importance of the priorities in this stage shift around as events happen.
Stage 2: Defense/Gathering Strategy
Ideal Split (10-12 players) - Gathering materials and contributing resources is one of the most important roles and has no requirements outside of doing a small intro quest at the mine and lumber camp. You won't have to fight much outside of a couple Kobolds and Treants and therefore this role is easily performed by any player of any gear level.

The primary objective of the defending group is to focus on collecting

and spending it on building and upgrading the base. These players will make repeated returns back to the base dropping off the resources they have collected.
铁矿
will be the more important of the 2 resources but is limited to the mine and reserves chest where
木材
is more available and spread out. Remember that only 1 player can obtain resources from a mine cart or tree so therefore it is important to not have too many players attempting to gather in one particular area. Ideally there should be 2-3 players actively looking for mine carts in the mine at any given time.

slowly collects in the Ore Stores chest located next to the Great Hall, remember to collect it, but also remember you can only hold 200
铁矿
at once.
All resources should be spent on building the
Barracks
first. This will greatly help out both the defense and offense. After building the
Barracks
, resources should still primarily go to building and upgrading the base itself, but can be spent on other things only if necessary. The general order in which you want to build your buildings are as follows:

Building progress is shown on the Construction Table interface of a building, as well as mousing over the building icons on the map. The amount of
铁矿
and
木材
required to finish construction is shown as well.
Defend
The players focused on gathering should also be the primary defenders of the base, lumber camp and mine as they are floating between them already. A tank is strong here to hold attack waves from assaulting your base captains. Attack waves are shown on the map and are the only force powerful enough to take a base. These attack waves can kill your base captains quickly if left unchecked, so it is best to react to these attacks as quickly as possible. The offense team may happen to intercept these, but this should only happen as a convenience and not a necessity.
A base is lost if your friendly NPC captain dies. This NPC will be named and holding your faction's flag at each base.
If a base is lost, an enemy captain with reinforcements will immediately spawn and need to be defeated to retake the base.
A screen and chat warning will be displayed when a friendly NPC captain takes significant damage.
Once the base has been upgraded to a
Stronghold
/
Keep
and the
Workshop
has been built, focus on building the
Demolishers
/
Siege Engines
. A maximum of 3
Demolishers
/
Siege Engines
can be built. Once they are built, the need for gathering is less important and some of the defending team can move to help the offense team or escort the siege weapons.
Stage 2: Offense Strategy
Ideal Split (8-10 players) - A small group of organized players are strong enough to take just about any base except the Circle of Elements. A geared tank can even allow a group as small as 3 players to take a base given time. You will generally want geared players to take the role of capturing bases as they can do so fast without committing too many people to do so. Remember no matter how quickly you capture every base, you need

Capture Newstead
Newstead
is by far the strongest optional base to capture. It allows the creation of the strongest troop type,

Newstead
is also significantly easier to capture compared to the other bases so taking it first and early is crucial to helping push and hold the battlefield.
After capturing
Newstead
collect as much

as you can from the areas nearby and then return to the base. Remember to pick up your
铁矿
from the Ore Stores cache. Spend most of your resources on buildings and upgrading the base, you can also spend a few on troops if necessary.

perform powerful AoE attacks as well as rooting enemies which are both perfect for dealing with attack waves and clearing enemy bases.

has been captured and players have spent their materials upgrading, it is best to push the front line to the center of the map,

to travel once you have them constructed.

Capture Circle of Elements (Low Priority)
The
Circle of Elements
is the least useful of all the bases and is also one of the hardest to capture. It is only helpful to be an extra layer of defense of the mine and to slightly help the final push into the enemy base. This base is worth to control for those reasons but keeping control of
High Perch
and getting siege weapons ready is more important. Only attempt to capture this base when there is no enemy pressure on other bases and you can spare the 10+ players needed to capture it. If not, capturing this base in the next step is preferred.
Capturing the
Circle of Elements
requires defeating the Flame-binders around the Spirit of Fire elemental and then defeating the elemental. Once both have been defeated the base can be captured. The elemental boss needs to be bursted down when he begins casting Apocalypse at 30% health. He will fully heal if he successfully casts Apocalypse. Because of this, it requires the assistance of a good amount of players and damage to defeat the elemental.

Stage 3: Escort the Siege Weapons
Once the
Workshop
has been built and
Demolishers

Siege Engines
have been constructed, there is no longer a rush to gather resources. The passive

acquisition will be enough for the remainder of the Warfront. Both offense and defense groups can combine together and take care of the following objectives.
Spend Remaining Resources
Before going onto the following objectives, players should make sure to take one more trip back to the base and spend all their resources in the following priority:

It is also worth for 1 player in the Warfront to each spend their resources on

Escort the Siege Weapons to High Perch
It is important to have
High Perch
under your control at this point, if it isn't make sure to do so immediately. If
High Perch
is under your control, the
Demolishers

Siege Engines
will safely make it to
High Perch
without the need of escort and begin firing on the enemy Siege Towers at
Valorcall Pass
/
Northfold Crossing
.
Defeat Any Attack Waves
Check the map for any attack waves and take care of any that may put pressure on your bases. Squads of semi geared players and tanks should pick off any attack waves advancing from the side paths while the bulk of the raid take care of any advancing on
High Perch
.
Capture Circle of Elements
If the
Demolishers
/
Siege Engines
at
High Perch
are safe and no attack waves are threatening any bases you own, players should shift over to capture the
Circle of Elements
. This will provide players with the ability to keep all of the enemy forces at the front outpost.
Capture the Enemy Outpost
Capture

by defeating the enemy captain and destroying the Siege Towers. Focus on killing the enemy captain first before helping the
Demolishers

Siege Engines
take out the Siege Towers. All of the enemy forces will funnel through this base in the meantime so make sure to take care of them too. Once both towers and the captain are taken care of the flag for
Valorcall Pass

Northfold Crossing
can be clicked.
The Siege Towers take bonus damage from your
Demolishers

Siege Engines
and must be destroyed to capture the base.

are the only things that can destroy the gate so you will have to defend them from the enemy forces coming out of the main base. Do not attempt to approach the gates before the gate is destroyed as you will be killed very quickly by enemies along the walls of the base.
A repair kit can be found at

and can be used to repair damaged
Demolishers
/
Siege Engines
Defeat the Enemy Commander
When the gates of
Stromgarde
/
Ar'gorok
are destroyed, all players should push forward into the enemy base and defeat the enemy commander. The commander will be a famous lore character of that faction and naturally will be the strongest boss. Defeating the commander will end the Battle for Stromgarde in victory.

For each of the above leaders, you will want a tank to hold threat on them as they deal a high amount of damage on normal attacks. Healers and damage dealers will want to avoid the special abilities each of them cast.

This guide makes the zone seem really cool. However, the way it's currently tuned, everyone can run around more or less randomly and you will win in around 20 min. Using good strategy and quality play you can finish the instance a few minutes sooner, but that's not really much of an incentive.

Ouch - they changed things since yesterday (12-Sep-2018) so you can only queue for warfronts now if your iLevel is 320 or more.
At least I managed to get 4x340 and 1x370 item on my freshly dinged 120 warrior before that little change sneaked in.

If you are Alliance, have 2 players go over to
Drywhisker Mine
at the start to gather extra iron from the Horde mine (able to get around 300-350 iron). Mobs are minimal ..but is an excellent resource to jump start in getting buildings going. Remember to use your Flight Whistle to quickly return to Alliance base.

For Alliance players -
If you see the "Stolen Loot" or "Prisoners" rare pop up on the map, which appears directly south of Valorcall Pass, you'll undoubtedly get frustrated trying to find it. You can get to them via a large ogre cave east of Valorcall. Neither of these seem to contribute toward the rare encounters achievement, but they're worth getting for the resource bonus.

Last Warfront I was in, the Empowered Elemental cost 100 Iron. That might've been in the patch as of Tuesday 09/25/18. Referencing Stage 3, where it says it's worth 50 Iron in the guide. Just a heads up!

Capturing the Circle of Elements also unlocks Priests for the Alliance. Is it Shamen for the Horde?

This may seem simple but turn in the wood or iron right at the gearbox mechanical thing in front of the building you are trying to upgrade. Barracks and town hall are in the keep, so you have to run back and click on it.

Are they seriously not going to increase ilvl from rewards? Both 'drops' and from quest after finishing contribution. Because if not - both warfront(s) and contributing is gonna become literally pointless.
