This is the paladin T5 tank set.
Ok, it has tons of defensive stats, but with very little spell damage and no strength how is the paladin supposed to do enough damage to generate aggro?
This set, while intended for tanking, and having little spell damage, is really for the +defense and such. Do realize that this is only 5 pieces of many equipment slots. You can easily use those slots to build up enough spell damage as this set provides you with the other tanking stats.

GO GO PALLY RANGERS!
Go Go Power Rangers....
Looks a lot like
Some might also say Aldori Legacy Defender
and Fang of the Leviathan
match with this set
Pally rangers FTW!
For clarification, this is the
Tokens for this set are available from the following bosses:
Leotheras the Blind
Fathom Lord Karathress
And their respective tokens are;
Vanquished Champion (Rogue, Shaman, Paladin)
Vanquished Defender (Warrior, Priest, Druid)
Vanquished Hero (Warlock, Mage, Hunter)
items in this item set.
Another good tanking gear worth noting is the
It is bind on pickup and requires 350 engineering to make and use. However, its stats are as good as a Tier 5 tanking helm. Many tankadins consider the goggles by itself a good enough reason for them to respec engineering!
Skip this set. Set Bonuses are

Protection Paladin Pre-BT/SW Gear Guide
This list is easily obtainable, and contains the optimal substitutes for the Tier Items that some feel they need to grind out. I have tanked Hyjal, BlackTemple, and Sunwell Trash/Felmyst Adds in the following gear without ever having to join a guild and wait to gear up.
. Engineering (BoP)
Shattered Sun Pendant of Resolve
Pauldrons of Stone Resolve
Silkk's Cloak of Placation
Shattrath Protectorate's Breastplate
Bracers of the Ancient Phalanx
Belt of the Gaurdian
Inscribed Legplates of the Aldor
Ring of the Stalwart Protector
Ring of Unyielding Force
Jewel Crafting (BoP)
Commendation of Kael'Thas
Heroic Magister's Terrace
Bulwark of the Amani Empire
Libram of Repentence
Keep in mind this list is composed of basically casually playing a few nights a week, and I obtained all of the items in under 2 months. (Also keep in mind that I'm not the guild MainTank, this list is just for "Pre-BT/SW" Paladins who want to apply to end game guilds to get T6 and beyond.) I believe Blizzard implemented these items for tanks/alts who are tired of grinding Kara, then SSC, then TK, then Hyjal etc. This is a very simple gearlist that will get you MORE than enough stamina/avoidance/threat to tank in very large realms as guilds progress into Sunwell. Fully Raid buffed I'm at 20k HP, 111% avoidance with Holy Shield, and roughly 1.3k Threat per second.
You may be thinking "How do I get into Zul'Aman, if I dont have the equipment to?", or even "What heroics do I do to get the badges?" Well it's quite simple. Below is a list of "To Do's" in order so you can get to this gear level as quickly as possible.
As you hit level 70, you should immediately start doing Daily quests. I played casually, and could do about 10 a day before I was bored or simply had real life to catch up with. 9 quests with the Shattered Sun Offensive, and the daily PvP battleground quest. This will give you an average of 200-300 gold per day, and roughly 5k Honor and 6 Marks per day. (PvP can be 1 shot and bam we're done, or take 6 matches to win you never know).
Week 1 Total = 1750g , 35k Honor w/10-15 of each bg Mark, and Very Close to exalted with SSO.
Do SSO/PvP Dailies and build up Jewelcrafting (1000g) and Engineering (1000g).
Week 2 Total = 1500g (1750g per week, minus 2k gold in crafting materials), 70k Honor w/ 20-30 of each bg Mark, Exalted SSO.
With your current gold and reputation you can buy Aldor Exalted so your necklace procs and to get the
. With the SSO reputation you can get the
patterns. Furthermore, you can purchase your
. With the remaining gold you should purchase the
, any "Champion," and "Sorcerer" lvl 68+ green plate items.
With 6 Epics 2 Rares, and the rest greens you're ready for Heroics. (You won't be uncrushable, meaning you can't easily tank Raid Bosses, but Offtanking in Kara pugs is a nice way to get easy badges and some rep/items if need be)
Now you should start doing Heroics daily. The only places a protection paladin should go are
because the drops will make life easier. I did the daily heroic quest, and If I was in a good group, Id do 1 or 2 more. You can make about 50g per dungeon with the quest, and shards and drops. Never take more than 3 to 4 hours a day doing heroics...it becomes a gear grind at that point, and what fun is that? I would also grab a Karahzan pick up group once a week, and even if they cant get past Curator you still pull badges and a good chance to get
Week 3 Totals- 2550g, 115 Badges
Buy your Libram, Bracers, and Cloak. (85 Badges)
Heroics and Kara should be easier this week with at least 3 NEW tanking items. The pace at which you can do simple heroics should drastically pick up, and the NEED for CC in heroic magisters is low now.
Week 4 Totals - 3300g, 145 Badges
Buy your Hands and Rings. (If you've gotten the Maiden's Gloves, skip the Bonefist and go right to the Legs.) You can now easily afford the Belt of the Guardian, and if you haven't finished crafting your helmet/trinket do so.
Now your gear is at the level at which you can be a little more picky with your heroics. You are going to NEED your Commendation and Weapon, so do Heroic Magister's every day until you have them. You can now spend some time in ZA. With Helm, Neck, Shoulder, Bracer, Hands, Belt, Legs, Rings, Trinkets, Weapon and Shield all being Epic you can Easily get 1 Chest in a PuG and get your shoulders.
I did the daily Heroic, Magister's, and ZA/Kara every cooldown for the 2nd Month and was ready for Black Temple.
I wouldn't even say the gearing up was luck, because most of the items are from crafting, Rep., or badges, and with only 2 tanks per ZA and 1 per heroic, you are much more likely to get what you need rather than competing with up to 6 or 7 rogues/shaman/pallies in every 25 man.
When I obtained this gear, I had enough badges to buy a Full Fire Resistance set as well as enough gold to buy my epic flying mount. Extra badges went towards epic gems, and since we're Jewelcrafters, all badges from here on out are money in the bank =D
To me, it looks like the evidently lackluster bonuses on this set are indeed useful for aoe tanking. The 2 piece bonus increases your passive reactive threat gen by about 60%. The 4 piece bonus, while probably not worth shooting for, does reduce the overall damage you take slightly. I can see these both being somewhat useful for a hyjal aoe tank.
blizzard has made paladin a true tanking set... warriors better watch out ;)
While my opinion on the looks is, well, my opinion, I'd have to say that i'd keep the Justicar Shoulders, and not bother with the Crystalforge one's.
Armor : 997
Stam : 18
Int : 22
Def : 12
Block Value : 23
Block Rating : 15
Dmg/Healing : 22
MP/5 : 0
Armor : 1133
Stam : 28
Int : 23
Def : 20
Block Value : 0
Block Rating : 0
Dmg/Healing : 12
MP/5 : 6
To sum it up. Justicar has -136 Armor, -10 Stam, -1 Int, +23 Block Value, +15 Block Rating, +10 Dmg/healing, -6 MP/5.
I'd rather have the BV,BR,DMG/Heal, then the Stam,Int,and MP/5. Armor is almost a non-factor, imo.
As well, the last piece i would swap out would be the Gloves, as they also have BV + BR, while the crystalforge gloves don't. But the CF 4 peice bonus is sweet ^.-.
(WTB: Justicar 2-peice Bonus + Crystalforge 4-peice bonus)
this set is really awsome, finally glad the red headed step children of warcraft otherwise known as paladins finally get a treat...but this set looks awful! its like something Robocop would wear if he was a homosexual
in response to the last comment: you need a macro. Go to the WoW forums and you can find one that will use your taunt on your target if your target is friendly, but will use it on your target's target if its not friendly. Bam a taunt that's better than a warrs.
/cast Righteous Defense; Righteous Defense
Casts on the friendly you have targeted, or casts on the friendly your current mobs is agro'd to. Always have target of target display turned on in your Blizzard options so you know when your selected mob is not on the right person.
Consider this (maybe think outside of raiding for a sec), you're in unfamiliar territory and get some adds during a fight. There's a bunch of adds right next to your clothie now, but you don't know which ones are hitting them Do you want to spend time taunting and sundering them all or just select priest/mage and hit taunt and instantly get all of them? This mechanic has its advantages. I use it even when I'm not tanking to save the clothies, giving the war time to get them back.
Crystalforge (T5) has, compared to Justicar (T4):
700 more armor. (Lawl 1% damage reduction)
8 more stamina.
36 more Dodge rating. (Before accounting for Defense)
21 less intellect.
20 less block value.
1 less mana/5.
1 less +spell damage.
16 less Defense. (Affects both Block and Dodge rating)
3 less Block rating. (Before accounting for Defense)
Now.. What exactly makes Crystalforge worth the title of Tier 5, when compared to Justicar..? From the view of someone who's been a tanking paladin since long before it was "Valid", Crystalforge not only looks worse, but has less power than Justicar, and I'd honestly not use Crystalforge for any reason other than the 4-piece set bonus.. And most likely I wouldn't even for that.
ok, heres the deal, the day that u see a paladin in full teir 5 running at u in a BG, and u DONT &*!@ ur pants, or run away, is the day that u other classes can call it "homosexual" until then, i think it's pretty badass.
Chestgaurd of the Vanquished Champion - Kael'thas Sunstrider in The Eye
Gloves of the Vanquished Champion - Leotheras the Blind in Serpentshrine Cavern
Helm of the Vanquished Champion - Lady Vashj in Serpentshrine Cavern
Leggings of the Vanquished Champion - Fathom-Lord Karathress in Serpentshrine Cavern
Pauldrons of the Vanquished Champion - Void Reaver in The Eye
i must admitt this set looks gay as gay can be what the F*** was Bliz thinking when they made it?
where do you get it from?
Change the color and it looks great.
Change the design and it looks EVEN BETTER!
Blizzard really just needs new designers, how many crystal this and crystal that have you seen, Outland is way more diverse then to just be all about the crystal loving Dranei
^^ that looks great :)
i like the penis protection :P
Think about... This looks like robocop's gay twin.
Does anyone know what you have to do to buy this stuff? There is a small symbol next to the cost, but I can't figure out what it is.
ok guys wake up here... people saying tier 4 is better then tier 5? well heres how i sum it up... I like most pally tnkas dont wear all the tier gear, reason being it lacks the defencsive stats.. sure we do need that spell damage but i can get that from a weap and the two pice i decide to wear of T gear... so stop comparing the sets mayb compare say the shuolders (one of the things oyu shuold be wareing) and see the tier 5 is just that much better
Thats how paladins who reach Tier 5 are rewarded, with crappy looking set...only if you are lucky enought to reach Tier 6, you can get rid of of that @#$%, but hey, how many guilds per servers are raiding BT/Sunwell ? I guess most of us will have to stick that set into our ass, until next expansion, even during the beginning of the expansion, just so people can laugh even more for a while...
Lol, Mighty Morphin Pally Ranger.
Seriously though the redesigned set above is freakin' awesome. Now if Blizzard would only redo the T5 tanking sets and actually give people incentive to down the T5 bosses more often, then it might not be as bad when everyone trades in their epics for greens in Wrath.
Again, thanks Nyhm
