Tire 5 Set for Mages
Tirisfal is a reference to the Order of Tirisfal, from which Medivh and his mother Aegwynn were (and may still be) the guardian of. Hence the simplicity and reminiscence of Medivh's outfit.
This really is an odd set. Frostfire(Tier 3) has more stats in every category than this set except Spirit and a small amount of Crit Strike Rating. It looks like Blizzard toned down the mage set quite a bit, and we're going to have to rely on Sockets to make up for what we need.
There are a number of ways someone could go about socketing the items. Max out on Spell Crit/Hit, or maybe an increased mana pool. The +Dmg is substantially lower than Tier 3, so that would probably be a large factor in the gem decisions.
Edit: I stand corrected. I never thought about the 9piece vs 5piece deal, so this is definitely better
in my opinion a set is bad, good ,very good,or exelent depending how you have place your talents points..for example this set i think is more useful in frost mages..frost spell do less damage than fire BUT...with shatter talent or winter's chill talent they more often critically hit the target..so with frost spect you will almost always complete the "4 peices" bonus and play almost always with 70 spell damage more..thats fine with me :)if you play 40 arcane-21 frost ...i would say just choose T4 set...the
-sec of precence of mind and blast and ice block will be fit better to this spec than wait to crit to have the +70 damage bonus..and just an example people just rush to say their opinion about a set...a friend of mine play with a mage and always played as fire spec..now in 70 lev his talents are 50 fire 11 arcane...when he saw T4 set for the first time he told me..lol ...this set sucks!! its make somehow sense...he dont even know ice block or precence of mind exist....dont be hurry said a set sucks or something like that...there are other people playing with a different style of you that they ll love it...all sets"do" something if you know how to "use" them
I would use the T4 set over this no question. I hope Blizz takes a look at this set and ups the set bonuses at least.
I'm an arcane frost mage and my main spells are frost bolts and arcane missles. I can avoid interrupts with missles but not frost bolts so the T4 set is what I'm striving for... this set? I will pick up on piece but the rest... no thanks
I like the PVP and arena set for mages, looked at the stats and think that the arena and pvp route is the way to go, plus its alot easier getting it compared to this set and faster in my opinion.... Would like to hear what you mages think, PVPoff pieces with arena gear with full epic PVP sockets or teir 4? Im for the arena PVP battlegrounds set....
FYI i did a respec and was Fire, arcane ,and a frost mage just to see what i like the best, and have come back to fire arcane, it just sems to be the most bang for your buck... Good luck Mages...
Tier 4 is alot better I think... 2 pieces and you have 100% avoid of interruption while casting Frostbolt or firebolt.
To use the first 2/5 set bonus, you have to be in 30yd range - means 110% aggro limit.
To use the second 4/5 set bonus (effectively) you spec fire - means that in order to use the first set bonus you will either
1. not do any damage at all
Alternatively ditch the first set bonus and dps normally - for which however there are other items far superior to this set.
Does anyone know if the 4 set bonus stacks?
Since most mages have a crit more often then every 6 seconds.
The tier 5 set has been buffed considerably in the 2.1.0 PTR's.
Check out a screenshot here:
It would be interesting to see how this stacks with itself, or with Shiffar's Nexus-Horn (
). Or maybe it would just reset the timer on the buff. Either way, the set bonus seems awesome, probably the best one raiding-wise since 8/8 Netherwind.
The interrupt resistance offered on the 2-piece Tier 4 bonus benefits fire much more than frost, given the longer average casting times fire mages experience, but the set bonuses on the whole for T4 are much more appealing than these ones. I know few mages that use Arcane Blast frequently enough for the 2 piece bonus (it's ALREADY a mana hog), and the 4-piece T5 bonus is not substantial or long enough to warrant using this set over T5 on bonuses alone. That's not even enough for a full pyro by the time you notice it and it lands. (Heck, the "generic" cloth dungeon 3 set has a larger, longer bonus, even if it doesn't proc as often.) If you're sitting on 4 pieces of T4 that have been gemmed, you may want to wait and gem up a few pieces of T5 before donning it regularly for that reason.
PTR's show the addition of a Blue socket to the robes, and stats that are vastly improved over the previous Tier 5. You now see the following increases *over Tier 4* (should the PTR's prove true):
+46 Damage and Healing
+44 Spell Crit
-13 Spell Hit
Defenitely an improvement over current Tier 5 which is much more of a side-grade from 4. However, the reduction in Hit rating is puzzling given the deeper into raiding we go, the higher level the average mob will be hence the need for more spell hit but oddly it's a reduction that will have to be made up with gems.
You'd think with every other class getting multiple Tier 4/5 sets tailored to different specs, if they're not going to do the same for mages they should at least make the bonuses generic and useful, like 5 or 10% reduced threat. Name a raiding mage of any spec that wouldn't love that!
This is one of the best Mage set!
Can anyone point me out some nice magely bracers/belts/boots that match this set's appearance? Preferably for a fire mage.
Headpiece - Lady Vashj (SSC)
Gloves - Leotheras the Blind (SSC)
Leggings - Fathom-Lord Karathress (SSC)
Pauldrons - Void Reaver (TK)
Chestpiece - Kael'thas Sunstrider (TK)
The 2 set bonus on this set is under estimated, and the 4 set bonus is great.
Raiding Mages are finding Arcane rotations doing a lot of damage with these set bonuses. I know a lot of people who don't raid often are going "WTF, Arcane being viable as a main nuke?"
Well it's true!
As long as you have a shadow priest, you really shouldn't worry about mana issues even as Arcane spec.
With a high crit chance, 2 / 4 set bonuses, Shadow priest, and a good Spell rotation your DPS will rocket.
Most used spell rotation-
Arcane Blast > Arcane Blast > Arcane Blast > Arcane Missiles > Scorch. And repeat.
The Reason there is a scorch at the end of the spell rotation is to give it time for your arcane blast debuff to go away, you don't want to just be standing there waiting for it to go away.
I hope this helps anyone with the 2 set bonus thinking it's going to waste, because it surely isn't. Good luck!
Just an update on the 2 set bonus, it wont be as valuable once 2.3 comes out because fireball and frostbolt coefficients are going away, meaning fireball and frostbolt will now benefit from 100% of your spell damage instead of just 90% (where it is now).
But there are still ways to make this 2 set bonus worth using, lets take for example the 40/0/21 build (
With a spell rotation near this..
Arcane blast > Arcane blast > Arcane blast > Frostbolt > Frostbolt > Frostbolt > Repeate..
You can get some nice damage will saving mana.
(Some may have different spell rotations)
The reason why this spec works is because..
1. mind mastery adds a huge bonus to your overall spell damage
2. Arcane Power (Which comes with 3% crit from the talent before it)
3. Clearcast crit proc
4. The critical strike bonus from both Spell Power (50%) and Ice shards (100% to frost)
Those are the key talents you want for this build.
You should have a good amount of spell damage and crit for this build.
With the nerfs to MSD and Lightning capacitor, and the buffs to Frostbolt and Fireball in 2.3, arcane just wont be doing the same damage as it once had.
But if you think the 2 set bonus is useless after 2.3, you're wrong. :)
That may work for full arca mages assuming you have
empowered arcane missiles
Let me point out why I don't like the idea what Tunes mentioned ("for your arcane blast debuff to go away"). It is not a debuf. If you trigger the bonus damage or the gear procced then the worst thing can happen that you have to cast 3 sec spells.
What is better (theoretically) ...?
cast 2 fireballs, 3 sec each and use instance fireblast/instant pyrobalst if you have it?
cast 3 frostbolts, 2.5 sec each (ice lance against bosses... well)?
cast 5 arcane blasts, 1.5 sec each?
As a 40/18/3 little mage I'd use scorch for starter (hopefully I'm with another fire oriented mage so we stack up the
Now I start the
s and hit the target minimum 3 times.
At this point the boss has fire debuff and I have arcane buff so I always have to choose if I
have to renew the fire debuff with a 1.5 sec scorch
have to renew the arca buff on me with an 1 sec arcane blast
so I should use fireblast/fireball as fire crits are very valuable... arcane blast is also an option as I got crit bonus on them as well. Instant pyro or trinket can be used as well. Anyway when you have better crit chance use the appropriate spell to trigger this set (or the passive trinket you sensitive for crits)
pop up your 3 minute trinket within the 1st minute (if appropriate) or so so you can use your 3 minute abilities as many times as possible before the enrage of the boss. Watch your aggro and keep distance from the boss
to clear debuff or to try to get rid of chasing bosses. You can be healed if the healer is still around.
when you are high on threat and not being or about to be dotted.
You run out of mana fast no matter what. You have 3
gems, use them asap when the 1800-3000 mana can not get wasted. Use
mana potion injector
, pots, beg for
as you like
run around the boss, screaming for help
die from a 20k hit. Please note the rule of thumb:
when the tank dies thats a mistake of the helaer
when the healer dies thats a mistake of the tank
when the DPS dies that is the mistake of the DPS (period)
The best part of having the arcane blast buff on you all the time is when your gear procced you can spam 5 Arcane blast within the 8 sec you have. I'm sorry for the long post but I actually don't think you can do decent DPS with spamming anything (but the trade channel of course). Also when you encounter raid bosses then the theoretical DPS is just imaginary as you most likely have to move and move and move...
a dead mage does 0 DPS which is kinda shameful when (s)he still has mana....
well, yeah I've found 2xAB and 1x AM a pretty nice rotation, never had any mana issues at Prince tho, and I've still gone with 3xAB....
but now i've got 10,4k unbuffed mana.. (Im geared almost for entire BT/MHyjal) and ofc I pop my mana gems ASAP when they will fill me up to 95-98% mana (just to be sure not to waste a singel point). Just keep a few mana pots ready incase you're unlucky with clearcasts.
And anyways, I tried the fire/icy veins specc, and it's using about as much % mana as the arcane mage on arc rotation does, or atleast it did for me..
Picked me down about 100-200 dps aswell..
For clarification, this is the
Tokens for this set are available from the following bosses:
Leotheras the Blind
Fathom Lord Karathress
And their respective tokens are;
Vanquished Champion (Rogue, Shaman, Paladin)
Vanquished Defender (Warrior, Priest, Druid)
Vanquished Hero (Warlock, Mage, Hunter)
items in this item set.
Here is the Stat comparison to the Tier 4
+43 Spell Crit Rating
-15 Spell Hit Rating
-20 Spell Penetration (Spell Penetration not present on Tier 5 Tirisfal Regalia)
-1 Red Socket
+3 Yellow Socket
-1 Blue Socket
The following are the Set Bonus Changes:
2 Piece Bonus: "Increases the damage and mana cost of Arcane Blast by 20%."
4 Piece Bonus: "Your spell critical strikes grant you up to 70 spell damage for 6 sec."
2 Piece Bonus: "Gives you a 100% chance to avoid interruption caused by damage while casting Fireball or Frostbolt."
4 Piece Bonus: "Reduces the cooldown on Presence of Mind by 24 sec, on Blast Wave by 4 sec, and on Ice Block by 40 sec."
This is Tier 5 Raid Mage Set. The exact location of the tokens needed for each part of the set is unknown for the moment.
Edit : Leggins, Gloves and Head piece drop from bosses in SSC, Shoulder and Chest piece drop from TK
honestly im not sure whats what
ive compared this with tirisfal side by side and they are both very much comparable to each other
here are my findings:
A T Difference
stamina 112 99 A+13
intellect 137 126 A+11
spirit 71 85 T+14
spell damage 177 188 T+11
spell crit 51 64 T+13
Now as you can see here aldor has superior stats but is slightly behind on spell damage and spell crit rating, however we also have to factor in that the aldor items have a combined socket bonus from 3 item that adds up to 14 spell damage, placing it higher in base spell damage than tirisfal for a total of 191 on aldor vs the 188 of tirisfal. the tirisfal bonuses add up to 8 spell crit rating and some hit rating also giving tirisfal 72 crit rating. Basically what were looking at is Aldor for supreme stats, and tirisfal for better spell crit chance, also keep in mind that your high crit chance will more often proc tirisfals set bonus for 70 damage for 6 seconds
No, in The Black temple Tier 6 is gonna drop so I dont think you will get tokens for tier 4 and 5 there.
oh yeah, and the other day, I two hitted a 70 hunter, so my dmg cant be that bad, can it? AP, trinket, PoM pyro, fireblast, dead
Blue has confirmed that they will be changing the items stats for all high level sets, as they were "sub-par" in relation to the way things scale.
So dont worry, for those who are upset t4 is = t5 etc. sets are getting a buff
1) Look at the armor, it says class:Mage
2) Warlocks dots can't crit, not even the ticks of damage.
3) the ticks on drain life can crit but not the whole thing.
4) Class:Mage, does not mean Classes:Mage,warlock, priest
sorry for my attempt to turn this pointless line of thread to something importnant... warloc's go away >.<... but i was just wondering, did anybody notice that there is no cooldown on the proc for the +70 on crit... does that mean if u crit more than once every 6 secs you will always have +70? does that mean it will stack aka.. +140 +210 +280? o_O? *cowers in fear* so much for agromanagement... /hugs for all the crit mages... you will now be dying more...
It seems that the Aldor set has superior ( albiet not by much ) stats to the Tirisfal set but the Tirisfal set has superior crit chance and +dmg.
Now what I think is that the Aldor set ( judging from stats and set bonuses ) is more based towards pvp rather than pve because think about it, 100% chance to resist pushback and a CD reduction on some of our primary pvp talents. Mainly you really shouldnt be getting hit in raids/instance scenarioes unless its special circumstances and although the 4 set bonus is equally good for pvp as it is for pve but concerning ice block, most mages that raid are Fire/arc or occasionally Arc/fire and if you are a frost raider you shouldnt be pulling aggro enough to be spamming Ice block all the time when ever it goes off its cooldown. Although the set lacks resilience so yea....
And onto Tirisfal, Tirisfal seems to be oreintated towards pve because of the Arcane blast dmg boost which if im not wrong still makes it the most effecient spell on its first cast but a 20% is quite alot when you factor in all other +dmg you get if your specced deep arcane all we have to hope for is that blizz makes it that bonus scale T.T. Regarding 4 set bonus, if that stacks that would be just omgwtfhaxxxx with combustion and quick casting spells ( scorch & AB )or if you get a lucky string of crits ( maybe Nova + frostbolt + ice lance? assuming nova doesnt break after first crit siff nerf FN stupid blizz ) and has a higher crit chance to supliment the bonus, but I doubt blizzard would make it stack which is a real shame, :( considering that is one of the biggest advantages this set had over aldor.
so ya... thats my $2
The ele shammy and warlock sets have better caster bonuses? O_o
Cyclone regalia: +199 spell dmg and 142int
corruptor raiment: +198 dmg; 132int
while tirisfal regalia has +194 dmg and 120int
maybe i dont understand smth, but i was expecting much more from the best set (so far) in the game. Spellstrike set and Frost-Shadow set together (5 items) not much worse then t5. And the efforts required to get them are uncompareable.

read the post above before reading this one makes more sense
no ^&*! who would think that tier 5 would be better than tier 6 think before posting a stupid comment like that
does anyone know if there's an internal CD to the 4 piece set bonus?
hey does anyone know what sabrina has got on her hand in that picture she posted, it makes her hand on fire? wat is that item? is it a weapon?
Ok I know this is going to be a nooblike question but bear with me. Why are some robes Red and the others Blue on this set? Is it an Aldor/Scryers thing? I am new to the game and my main will hit outlands soon, I am just interested in learning the difference. I LOVE the look of the red set and I am stacked 40 in arcane and going 40/21 Arcane/Fire.
So I started thinking it might be time to get rid of the ole spellfire/strike combo...why? Many people will try and talk you out of it saying, "spellfire/strike does so much more damage!" Well...depends on how you look at it.
Spellfire/Strike: Tirisfal Regalia:
Damage - 264(+max int x .07) Damage - 245
Crit - 119 Crit - 104
Hit - 38 Hit - 37
Now I know some of you are thinking ZOMG Spellfire/Strike IS WAI BETTER...well maybe for grinding and short little boss fights, but lets compare the two when the real boss fights come.
Spellfire/Strike: Tirisfal Regalia:
Int - 65 ( x .07?) Int - 158
Stam - 28 Stam - 145
Spirit - ? Spirit - 112
I'm interested to see what people outside my server think.
2 piece set bonus: increases the damage and mana cost of arcane blast by 20%
Finally, a way to kill a full-pvp holy paladin. Unless you spec far into discipline, a priest's "mass dispel" is a joke (2.5 sec cast as opposed to 1.5 seconds... still only a 10 yard range and can easily be avoided by a stun or taking a couple steps back) and if you spec that far into discipline, you dont have the dps to kill the paladin before someone else shows up to kill you. Though mages dont have any way to counter the paladin bubble, at least they got the raw burst magic damage to kill a paladin (sidestepping high armor and dispellable DoTs) and this just amplifies it. This may just be better than the PvP set if you face stubborn healers.
Don't forget the difference in the amount of +Hit gear/gems you need to push resists down to 1% (That should be a top concern for any good mage)
We're talking about 158? +Hit needed as fire/frost (That's with the 3 talent points in Elemental Precision) to much lower +Hit req for an arcane build.
What that means is some of that gear & gems you are using as frost or fire that gives you +Hit can be swapped out for +Crit or +Spell now.
Also the new meta gem (
Chaotic Skyfire Diamond
) that gives a +12 Spell Critical & 3% Increased Critical Damage makes this set even stronger. (They fixed this gems req to at least 2 blue gems)
*I just got my 2nd piece of T5 yesterday and will be playing around with it and will edit this post with some better figures
with my deep arcane build the 2 piece t5 hauls ass, i can pull 2-3k dps on trash mobs chaining arcane blast. on boss fights with gems, pots, spriests and/or shamans i can almost chain it the entire time as well. i definately will have a hard time saying goodbye to the 2 piece t5 for t6, and i probably wont give it up until i have 4 pieces of t6.
Once the 2/5 set bonus changes or is improved... the t5 is still good for arcane
lmg this is mage set am i right and it looks alright but it doesnt compare 2 any of the lock sets!
UMMM Icy veins just made arcane even better.
