This is a solid damage sword and makes an excellent weapon if you haven't yet got Burning Crusade and can't afford any epic or PvP items. The biggest downside however is a lack of stats on it, but back in the day I quite enjoyed using it and found it to be very powerful.
The extra frost damage does not show up seperately and is added to the white damage dealt by the weapon. It does break through Blessing of Protection though the damage from that will be rather small.
having frost dmg to your weapon can help out a lot in BC when you're just starting out. although if you're 58 I doubt you'll run scholo for this weapon. you'll probably head to outlands as soon as you ding 58 and go from there.
This sword is one of the best 2 handed blue weapons. Not to mention you get it free from a quest, its a must to get. I tested this with another paladin in a duel, he used blessing of protection(which blocks all physical dammage) and I was still doing dammage to him because of the frost damage. My hits were 23 33 6(critical) 57(critical), and that was from the frost dammage alone.it seems to average around 15-20 extra dammage per hit of frost dammage which also is not affected by armor. Thus, the sword is really about 65dps, and is all the more awsome if you use it with seal of crusader and the crusader enchant.
You need to have done the Kirtonos quest for the trinket reward that lets you speak with the ghosts. Equip that and explore around the enterance to Scholomance. Across from the locked door, up some stairs, etc.
is this quest raidable? or has to be done with 5 man. ( post patch)
i tried a few times with 5 man, none of them success. it seems scholo will take forever to 5 man it.
can anyone confirm this? i really need that reward. ;/
... along with the shield. I was so frustrated when Blizzard released the most recent patch, which precludes you from completing quests by dropping off a raid group and then consequently joining back in upon quest completion.
Anyway, I couldn't find a UBRS/SCHOLO raid group last night so I decided to start a 5-man scholomance group to kill Ras Frostwhisper (and the Butcher). To my surprise, our run was very successful -- no wipe out and it was smoother than a raid group. It didn't take that long either. We went to kill Ravager first to get the Viewing Room Key and then ran back all the way to the front and jumped down the balcony.
Killing Ras Frostwhisper was easy. Actually, I almost didn't get to complete the quest because I somehow got stuck under one of the shelves right after getting blasted away by RFW's force push attack. Luckily, I brought with me a Symbol of Divinity reagent for Divine Intervention (a talent for Paladins). I casted it on our priest, died, and got resurrected. I looted his head and also won a 1h mace (a frost hammer).
Anyway, good luck for those who need to 5-man scholo. Oh, btw, my team was composed of a Paladin, Warrior, Rouge, Priest, and Mage. :-)
you can't raid this quest anymore. dropping from the raid won't work. you HAVE to Five-man it.
corruption is crap. This, arcanite reaper, hammer of the titans, barbarous blade, and many others are much better than corruption.
I have owned a destiny since lvl 52. I have just received this but are not sure which is better. Does the often procing 200 strength make up for 4dps? 1-20 ice dmg make a difference?
i think that destiny with a +9 wep enchant brings up the average dps to around 56.4 or something like that. That is only around 1 dps difference. Now im a warrior who likes speed and fast hits which makes Destiny all the more appropriate. However IMO the dmg range of the Warblade makes it a better weapon. However if you were to put a crusader enchant on Destiny and both proced at the same time then your average dmg would be greatly increased. Now there are alot of ifs in this comparison but it really comes down to what feels a beter weapon for you personally. When u consider MS and the new patch then even more variables are entered into the equation, which makes the decision all that harder. However seeing that i payed 200 gold for destiny im gonna drain all the use out of it until something better comes along. Personally i will be using destiny for all my end game action including pvp.
Whoever wants to offer a different side is welcome
Hope that helped
I would prefer the warblade. Doomsaw Weapon has everyone, nothing special. And for a pally a 3.3 speed is almost good.
A while back they nerfed Doomsaw really bad so now that proc never happens (I had it for like 2 weeks the proc happened once lol). I got Warblade now and Iam much more happy with it. btw iam a 60 Warrior. sooo to me Warblade is better.
Ice Barbed Spear is about 54 dps but has a lot of str, stam stats to it.
For warriors this is the best 2hander in the game that doesn't require raiding or an insane amount of BGs to get. Sword specilization is far better than polearm or axe simply because when you sword spec you get a lot more rage AND a sword spec does approximately the same amount of damage as a crit does (-20% because a crit benefits from impale); however, if either the initial or sword spec crits you've done well over a single crit from a polearm or axe. Often times if the first attack crits, the second will as well.
Plus it is really funny when you hit a guy, sword spec him, mortal strike (because you have a ton of rage now), bloodrage, and then improved execute. If I only got a nickel for each time this happened. *sigh*
Also, the frost damage is included on this item's DPS stat number. 57.4 is the correct DPS for this weapon. Those that are thinking the actual DPS of the weapon is higher because WoW is not calculating the damage correctly are wrong.
i hope you know that the Baron has the ability to "heal" himself with his ervants. You had a mage, he is supposed to AoE the adds as soon as you see him cast(Note: you can tell once you see a purple shape appears above his head). This is the time when the Mage stops casting and prepares for AoE. The druid shouldve went feral to take the place of a rogue/hunter. Pally dpses on Baron same with warrior and druid. Mage casts, but stops to AoE every while and Preist just heals. He is super easy.
You dont need to kill the baron for the quest with the pentagram. Just stand close to the pentagram, interact with it and the quest is completed. You dont aggro Baron.
Did this quest yesterday, we wiped at baron but quest was completed. =)
Should I use this over Barbarous Blade?
it looks like the shield AND one of the other optional choices is available on the quest image, Is this correct?
I am a level sixty holy/protection paladin. I have been tanking for Scholo a lot lately and was wondering whether to use this
. The frost resist would be very helpful against some of the enemies but the intellect on Sacred Protector is good for holding aggro with spells longer.
For paladins to hold aggro they need to keep as much holy damage as possible going, which requires a lot of mana, please reply.
This weapon totally owns IBS. The faster attack rate mixed with the higher damage range totally blows aways IBS. My damage has gone through the roof, this is on a 10-man FD raid, we
started at the begining.
IMO, this weapon is up to par with the famed Arcanite Reaper.
PROS of each
A Reaper | Warblade
•Higher max|•Faster attack
damage |•More DPS
•5% crit, |•Sword spec,
axe spec |better than axe spec
I hope this saves you 600g from not buying a reaper.
....this weapon sucks, your all noobs.
the dps from this (57.4) is actually more in the end than the dps from an a similar dps weapon, but pure physical dmg instead of partly magic based. reason being, the frost portion of the dmg (and the Songblade from east plaguelands is similar) totally bypasses dmg reduction due to armor. resulting in larger net dmg amounts inflicted.
It's a reward for killing Ras Frostwhisper. Just gotta find the guy who starts the chain.
Was a great find until everyone started dropping out of raid to finish the quest. Now its more of a novelty paperweight since everyone has one.
63 is the quest level from which the sword is a reward... almost all quests in WoW seem to be bumped up a few levels, to display difficulty. Probably need to be 58, 59, maybe even 60 to take the quest... but that'd be your 'level requirement' for the wep.
this sword with a crusader enchant on a SoC paladin.. good? no good?
Does frost dmg means it slows? No I suppose. Nvm it is a stupid Question:)
Would u answer it afterall :))
LOL this weapon is a joke, there is way better than that at that level range....
wOOps did i do that>?
I believe 57,4 is the overall dps of the weapon, including the frost damage.
142-214 dmg = 178 dmg
178/3,3 (3,3 secs delay) = 53,93dps(physical)
1-22 dmg = 11,5 dmg
11,5/3,3 = 3,48 dps (frost)
Overall dps = 53,93+3,48 = 57,41dps
Thought this small info might help you to compare with other 2handers. ^^
buddy has... it looks like destiny. big... big sword
For Those Who are wondering, it is not a TBC weapon, it is a regular no-lvl req item, if you are a paladin or warrior and you want to donate to ur server, i recommend it, i donated for this at lvl 1, leveled to 35 in 3 hours with the sword and Helm Of Exile alone.(including regular items to get from 1-35)
if you do the questline that starts outside of scholomance it reveals the ghostly citizens a guy inside the keep gives you the quest to kill ras in his human form. then you get these
This sword is actually quite good for MS warriors in PvP unless you have ready access to obsidian edged blade or somesuch.
The max damage isn't exactly bad and given sword-spec's spikey random damage this thing is pretty even with blackhand doomsaw or ice barbed spear.
It's actually better than those two for PvE where approximately 40% of your damage comes from _autoattack_
I was going to get the Reaper and ive been saving up for it.. since we are going to go to lvl 70 should i sword spec and get this one till i can run a lvl 70 instance and get a weapond from there or is the Reaper still going to be good at lvl 70?

Pretty much all of these types of weapons don't do any additional frost damage or other school of damage, only physical. I've tested this multiple times in prep for
, I did have the frost bolt proc weapons prior to that and they work fine.
This means you don't get frost dmg added to a weapon that states it does additional frost damage.
I do remember a bug back in Wotlk with an axe from Storm Peaks rep that caused multiple embue's to proc twice which these weapons may of been effected during the hotfix during 3.0.3
item: brunnhildar axe
These are the weapons i've tested so far with no additional frost damage outside of the proc itself there's no base +5 frost damage.
"We wanted to take a moment to clarify that the extra elemental damage from weapons such as
are behaving as expected in WoW Classic and do not actually cause additional non-physical damage to the target. They do however still inflict extra damage in the amount specified in the tooltips. This is not noted in the combat log separately and is simply calculated as additional physical damage added to the weapon’s attack.
That being said, it has been noticed by players that when using an elemental barrier such as a nature/frost/fire protection potion or a shield that absorbs a specific element, you will see an “absorbed (X)” message in the combat log. This is also correct and working as expected, and such effects will reduce the damage of attacks by such weapons by the amount of extra elemental damage specified in the weapon tooltip.
Ultimately the way these weapons function is a very old quirk/bug with how original World of Warcraft was built. While definitely strange and unintuitive, these weapons are behaving exactly as they did in the original game and we have no intention of changing them to behave differently in WoW Classic.
I hope this helps provide some clarity around this very odd quirk inherent to these types of weapons!"
