If you are looking for mass amounts of runecloth (Either for leveling Tailoring or trying to get rep with the core factions for mounts) the best place to farm runecloth is in Blackrock Stronghold (45.5, 35.2) in Burning Steppes. The orcs there can be killed fast and drop 1-3 runecloth almost in every kill. As a rogue I can get about 5-6 stacks per hour of farming.

The post above me provides a good location, however I think that you'll find that the undead citizens of Karazhan (in Deadwind Pass after the orcs) is a better place. In an hour I can easily get the number he is talking above and they drop significantly more silver. The respawn rate is considerably better as well.

I've heard rumors that it will be profitable to farm up 7 or 8 stacks of runecloth to have ready when the expansion comes out. There will be new bandages to be learned and anyone with first-aid will need runecloth to skill up. Also, once other people realize they need runecloth the demand will be higher and so stacks might be sold for more in the AH. In that case, it might be good to farm up a good amount of runecloth right before the expansion and set them in the AH then.

Netherweave cloth bandages is the next step
Manual: Netherweave Bandage -> requires 330 first aid
Manual: Heavy Netherweave Bandage - > requires 360 first aid
They can be purchased for 2 and 4g
They heal 2800 and 3400 dmg over 8 secs respectively
Hope that helps

If there is anything that I've learned about the Auction House it's that there is always a better deal. For example, runecloth. On both my alliance server and my horde I have noticed the price of runecloth vary from as low as 85s a stack to as high as 3.5g a stack, and not on seperate occasions. It is in my experience that even though you may be in a hurry to buy a few stacks of runecloth, or any other high end stackable item, don't settle for the first page of the item on the Auction House. There is awlays a better price. Save yourself a few gold and take the extra second to check all the pages, you never know what sort of deal you will get, trust me, I've gotten some great deals.

I've heard the rumor that you should save 300-ish runecloth to level up to the next bandage in the expansion (prices will go up so think ahead -.^)

On average you can buy them off the auction house for 2g/a stack. These drop of 50+ Mobs and can be easily farmed and found in the Plaguelands, Winterspring and Felwood.

Runecloth is also needed for the Paladin Epic Mount quest, 40 of them to be exact.

Currently the best way to gain faction with your home factions, i.e. if you are Alliance, gaining rep with SW, IF, Darn, and Gnomish.
I have 7 Epic mounts to date at the moment, which requires exalted with the three other alliance factions, all of which was done with multitudes of Runecloth.
You can make good money in the market with Runecloth.

thanks for the great info on farming sites. Respec'd to tailoring this weekend and not only was there little runecloth to be had, it was wildly overpriced. So I came to Blackrock Stronghold and ran some laps on the inside ring, cleared the yard, ran a few more laps and had quite a number of stacks of bolts of rune cloth before I even had to rebuff.
On to the next!

As a nice suggestion for some decent runecloth farming, I'd like to mention the area just north of Lights Hope Chapel; the Noxious Glade. You'll find a lot of undead in the area, dropping 1 to 4 runecloth at a time. You can easily do 5 stacks an hour running around here!
Oh no, my secret's out now!

I'm an affliction lock. I tried all the places above, which were great, however HoT doesn't work on undead. I went over to Feralas to try farming the ogres for runecloth, and it's the best place imo! I easily get 6 stacks in 30-45 minutes.
You can farm lots of them here and they are a fast respawn. I continuously get drops of 3 - 4 runecloth and tons of greens. I have attached a screenshot to show the runecloth drops a lot.

I find the ogres in feralas are a waste of time. ive killed at least a 100 ogres so far and normally dont get runecloth. All i get is money. Drop rate is very poor or just very poor for me. Yet when it does drop, its normally 1 runecloth and the occasional 2 runecloth. Very rare to find one that drops 3-4 runecloth. Been at it for 30 minutes and maybe collected 20.

I have found a really easy place to farm runecloth to be the unyielding footmen at fort at the southern end of Hellfire Peninsula. They have a good drop rate. Other beneficial things about this area are:
1. The long line of the footmen on the ridge that don't wander. You can pull them without much competition.
2. The respawn rate is crazy fast so if you are pulling from the line, by the time you get to the end the front of the line has respawned.(##RESPBREAK##)140##DELIM##ArgentSun##DELIM##This seems to be no longer accurate. The

All of the above spots are okay, but the one place that worked best for me was Silithus grinding the Twilight Mobs. Mobs have around 3.8k health and are easy kills, packed closely together and most drop around 1-3 runecloth.
They can be found here:

I'm not the quickest grinder (no AoE) but I got about 3 stacks in 30 mins.

In my opinion the best place to farm Runecloth near the Expedition Armory in Hellfire Peninsula, killing the Unyielding Footmen and Knights. They are all lvl 59-60, and 80% they drop 1-3 Runecloth.
As a lvl 62 UD Shadow Priest, I have just grinded the place for 2½ hours.
This netted me a total of:
14 stacks of Runecloth
2 stacks of Netherweave
12 green drops
I also got:
26g 07s 97c in loot money
7g 55s 06c selling the grey drops
I make laps starting with the line of Footmen to the east, starting from the top and going down. Then I go west and make a circle around the tower. By the time I finish the circle the line of Footmen will have respawned. The Footmen seemed the best to me, although the Knights also dropped a good amount. I did not bother with the Sorcerers as they did not drop anything but money.
Footmen have around 4,5-5k HP, easy kills with no special attacks.
Knights have around 3,3-4k HP; they charge as the fight begins, once around 50% they call for help, plus they can heal others (but not themselves) - so always kill them first.
As a Shadow Priest I just used VT - SW:P - Mind Flay - Wand (and occasionally SW:D). Sometimes, I also used VE to get my health back up. During the 2½ hours I drank 25 times; once every 12th fight or so.
This place is imho better than Azerothian grinding places when you are at a level where you still get XP for killing the mobs. I was rested to start with and got 1k XP per kill, totalling up to 200k rested XP - afterwards I got 500 XP per kill, which added up to 70k XP.
Not being rested at all would have netted me 170k XP, a fair amount for 2½ hours of grinding.
Moreover, there is not that much competition here. There are only few quests, and those are for lvl 58-59 - so you will probably be able to handle characters from the other faction if you are lvl 61-62.
Another good thing is that lvl 70’s almost never go here, so you are not in danger of being ganked.(##RESPBREAK##)140##DELIM##ArgentSun##DELIM##This seems to be no longer accurate. The

Since then i have moved to The Noxious Glade in EPL. The drops are much better, plus they seem to be dropping alot of greens aswell as scourgestones. A few minutes ago i had a Mymridon's signet drop(hope i get some good cash out of that lol).
Oh yes and i have gotten alot of Essences of undeath, which are pretty useful!

I tried out the Expedition Armory in HF, but in my experience The Noxious Glade in Eastern Plaguelands is a better choice. The good thing about Expedition Armory is, they're all right there lined up for you, but that's about it. There are downsides to the Armory. They sometimes drop Netherweave, which if you're farming for Runecloth is basically worthless - if you've done questing in Outland you probably have at least one bank bag full of the stuff. Another problem is they drop mostly lvl 58 Outland greens which, let's face it, are vendor trash! They don't sell well on AH, and although you might get a little gold out of them, it still isn't Runecloth. Finally the droprate for Runecloth there, while not bad, just isn't that great.
The Noxious Glade is practically all positive. You're guaranteed that if they drop any cloth at all, it's Runecloth - and they drop cloth significantly more frequently than at the Armory. They drop Essence of Undeath, which stacks unlike Outland greens. And the greens that they do drop are low 50s which *can* sell pretty well on AH, or at least will disenchant into something other than Arcane Dust (which is about all you'll get from an Outlands DE). Plus there's a lot more mobs in the Glade, and by the time you circle around chances are good you'll pick up the respawns right away.

I've found that the best place to farm Runecloth with my lvl70 Warrior is good old Tyrs Hand, especially the caster mobs. They are still elite but die pretty quick and drop greens/blues very frequently. If you are an enchanter you gonna make a decent profit out of all these drops.
Don't forget to check the buildings for the High General rare-spawn.

I have a lvl 66 Warlock Affliction speced and I went to Expedition Armory in HF. My professions are Tailoring and Enchanting. I thought it was the best place for 3 reasons.
1) The respawns are FAST. All I did was kill the sorceresses around the circular area and as soon as I got to the other side they already respawned.
2) Everyone drops 2 - 3 Rune cloths, rarely (but not too rare) 1 maybe 2 Netherweave, some greens, and some grays. The greens I was able to Disenchant and get some dust or shards from them. The grays I can turn around and sell for about a gold a piece, and the Netherweave I just used to make my Neatherweave bandages so I was never out of bandages ever.
3) I was still able to get some exp and get back some soul shards from farming in Kalmidor or Eastern Kingdoms for so long.
I didn't try the other spots but so far I like that one the best. Even at least if you don't get exp from killing them or you can't get shards from killing them as a lock, you can still get some Netherweave and always store it for later when you are able to use it.

I just tried Dire Maul and I would have to agree. Dire Maul is the best place. It took me a while but very quickly I was getting 4 rune cloths will almost every kill. Greens I wasn't getting much of though. Don't go inside Dire Maul, stay on the outside. Best place.
Expedition Armory is a good place though if you still need to farm and you need to replenish on supplies.

An alternative spot to farm runecloth that actually has a good drop rate is the ogres outside of Dire Maul. I was able to make six stacks of runecloth bolts in about an hour.
The ogres inside are not as easy, even if you are a 70 with a pet.

For a lower lvl grinding approach to farming runecloth, try the ogres in deadwind pass (lvl 55-57), they are only about 30% drop, but in an hour i got 24 bolts, 4 green objects and about 1g75. The good thing about them is they are close together, low aggro and fast re-spawn.

If you're farming runecloth for tailoring, I suggest going to Jadefire Run in Felwood. The mobs drop Felcloth, and they respawn pretty fast. The Felcloth drop rate wasn't too shabby either. :]

On my server (Hyrdraxis) runecloth prices in the Auction Houses have soared since the release of The Burning Crusade. One of the main reasons is that many people around level 55-60 who want to grind quickly go to Outland where runecloth does not drop. If people have not realized, Everlook, Felwood, and the Burning Steppes have all become wastelands since no one goes there anymore. So if your aiming for a lot of money, grind for runecloth. Currently, Netherweave cloth is less expensive than runecloth.

I found the best spot to farm runecloth is Dancing Troll Village, a secret (legal) zone between moonglade, darkshore and felwood. Here is a movie about how to get there:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_U_VowdeVU
Notes: You need to be Alliance to be able to attack the trolls. The best class is the mage, as there is the Big Group of Dancers (so I named them) that don't hit rlly hard and die quickly.
I found it personally quite easy to farm them as a level 62 fire mage. Just AoE like mad and they will fall.
P.S. - They have a high chance to drop greens or blues and they dropped for me once
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=811
. Really worth at least visiting that place.
P.P.S - the trolls are between lvl 52 - 58.
EDIT: found their wowhead link
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=10919#drops
EDIT 2: I really doubt that this place is forbidden, as a post under mine states. If it would be forbidden, why would Blizzard have created them Loot Tables in the first place?
EDIT 3:
http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=5901621373&postId=59010208902&sid=1#3
It is forbidden to visit this place, indeed :(. I'll just leave this post here for it's historical value ;)

While farming runecloth on my 70 hunter for my 43 tailor/enchant priest, I tried a few places. I thought I might share my experiences for anyone else in a similar situation.
First was Jadefire Run in Felwood. The drop rate on runecloth wasn't bad, usually 1-3 pieces every second or third satyr. The real gem about this location was the felcloth, however. After a few hours (around 3.5 spread over a few days) I wound up with just under a stack of felcloth to send to my priest. It probably isn't as useful as it was pre-BC, but it's still handy to have.
Next was the Noxious Glade in EPL. Since I didn't level my hunter there, it took a while of exploring to find the place and get my map filled out. The cloth drops were good, 1-3 from the humanoid and undead mobs, and the mobs were well grouped (2-3 together, making it easier for us without powerful/effective AoE to get a good group of mobs together). The Essence of Undeath and Ichor of Undeath was a nice bonus, too. Unlike above posters, I didn't find a lot of green drops. Still, if I were farming Argent Dawn rep and runecloth at the same time, I can think of no better place.
I only tried the ogres outside of Dire Maul (Feralas) for a short time after noticing the cloth drops were mainly one piece at a time with the occasional two, that is when cloth dropped at all. The caster mobs around were nice for me as a hunter to keep range, but I did notice a lot of competition around. I don't know if it was my server or if there really are a lot of people aching to run Dire Maul. As a 70, I didn't get ganked at all, but lower levels might if their server is anything like mine.
In the end, Hellfire Peninsula won me over, just like so many others. I can farm runecloth AND netherweave (which, unlike someone before said, not all of us kept from our time levelling in Outlands) and get the bonus greens to disenchant or vendor. Plus, the greys here sell for a lot more, meaning I don't have to turn auto-loot off to prevent a bag full of junk, so everything is just a little faster. And more profitable.

30ish mob drop silk
20ish mob drop wool
10ish mob drop linen

the upper 40ish humanoids (level 48 or 49) are the starting point of dropping runecloth but you will have to farm 50+ mobs to get constant drop.

In each major city there is an NPC with the title of <cloth quartermaster> or something like that. They offer the quests, "a gift or wool/silk/mageweave" (no linen cloth) that requires 3 stacks(total of 60) of cloth units, and give you 150 rep each (at least thats what I got for each turning in those three quests at lvl 54).
Once you finish the wool/silk/mageweave quests, the NPC will then offer a quest for runecloth. He/she asks for 60 units, but once you finish this quest you will then get a repeatable quests that requires only 20 runecloth. (I beleive it also gives you 150 rep but i have not tried yet)

Most efficient farming spot for me has been the stronghold just south of Blackrock Mountain in the Burning Steppes. Outside the stronghold you can pull most of the slayers and locks 1 by 1. Inside you will deal with at least 2 at a time. Very fast farming with a rogue. Kill all the mobs outside and walk away with at least 15 runecloth then kill all the mobs inside and have a stack and a half. By then the mobs outside are respawned and you can repeat.

If you want to turn in Runecloth for rep, you first need to finish the Donations of Silk, Mageweave, and Wool. Only when you complete those will the Runecloth (repeatable) quest show up.

Im a 300 enchanter and I'm lv 55 so it was about time I got some rep with Timbermaw and got the
+15 agi 1h
and
+25 agi 2h
enchants.
Out I went into Felwood (its easier to farm rep by killing the Felwood Furblogs as they are lower lv) and started farming. After quite a short time (within a few hours) I had gotten to friendly and had farmed 700 runecloth!
The drop rate is
amazing
as you get 5 rep for every furblog you kill + they drop 1-12s in cash + they drop random blues and greens (I got Sandales of the Insurgent from them and a few rare recipes) and they drop 1-3 runecloth per kill, they can also drop feathers which can be turned in in stacks of 5 for 75 rep! They also gave me 300-600 (depending on rested or not) exp per kill!
So having a rep with Timbermaw is one of the best things wow has to offer! You can go and kill the Felwood Furblongs either for
1) Blues and Greens
2) Reputation with Timbermaw
3) Exp
4) Runecloth and gold farming!
Hope this helps!
Its helped me get over 300g!

Forget Azeroth! Droprates on Runecloth are Horrible! I tested it out. I'm a 70 Holy/Discipline Priest on Smolderthorn. I ran with a 70 Arcane/Fire Mage friend of mine. I read this thread through and through and went to just about every spot everyone is saying to go.
Here's an account of my research:
First Stop: Eastern Plaguelands; Tyr's Hand. Mobs were 56-58 Elite. I would round up 6-8 mobs at a time and we'd AOE them down. They hit pretty damn hard and they're elite so the have lots of health. AOE pulls weren't that easy even for 2 70's with blues and 1 or 2 epics. We'd get maybe 3-4 runecloth per group.
Second Stop: Western Plaguelands; Any of the farm fields. We went to 3 of the different fields with the Cauldrons. Lots of Mobs to pull at once! Non-elite mobs, great! We'd both mount up, pull 10-15 mobs each and meet in the middle, AOE them down. Got 4-6 runecloth per group.
Third Stop: Felwood; Felpaw Village, northern-most furbolg camp. Drops were alot better here, but still lacking. More mobs to grind on, but still only 2-3 runecloth per group. The mobs are around lvl 53 so they're easy to kill and there's several camps to keep you busy and keep the respawns fast.
Fourth Stop: Deadwind Pass; The Vice, Deadwind Brutes and Ogre Mages. Not that many mobs here, so respawns take a while when you're a 70 farming runecloth. First of all, it's Azeroth, so the drops are crappy. Same as in Tyr's Hand and Felwood, the drops are few and far between. There's only maybe 5-6 Ogres in a camp that you can pull and they only drop runecloth maybe 10-20% of the time and it's only 1-2 runecloth. It's a waste of time!
Fifth Stop: Hellfire Peninsula; Expedition Armory, Southwest of Honor Hold. Excellent drops! Drops are fairly frequent and when they DO drop, it's usually 2-3 pieces. There's a row of probably 20 melee mobs there. If you have an AOE class (i.e. mage) and a healer, you can pull half the row, AOE them down, and loot probably 8-10 runecloth.
I was able to solo on my friend's 70 Arcane/Fire mage for 1 & 1/2 hours and get 5 stacks of Runecloth. I also picked up a couple grey items that sold for about 1g each and 1 or 2 greens that I sent to my alts. I also got 5-6 Netherweave, a couple Zangar Caps, and 1 or 2 mana/healing pots.
>>>>>>>>>> Final Verdict <<<<<<<<<<
Go to Expedition Armory and farm for Runecloth! Absolutely the best place to farm for Runecloth. Even if you're 58-60, go there and farm. The mobs there are 58-60, so a lvl 58 can grind here easily. There's lots of mobs all over the place. Go there! It'll be time well spent, and being new to Outlands, you might pick up some green gear that will replace your Azeroth garbage! Good Luck Farming!

I had to farm for Winterfall Spirit Beads to catch up with my faction.
Easy Kills, grab several mobs at a time. I didn't even think about needing these runecloth later to make cloth to pop for illusion dust since NO ONE wants to sell it for the old fair prices anymore or at all. in about 5 hours of grinding for faction i got about 50 stacks of them and thought well my tailoring is 375 i really don't have use for them, I'll just throw them on AH....duh so now I am looking for more runecloth to make clothes that i can DE for illusion dust.
Yes the armory is a great place to farm high drop rates. But for those who do not have BC to go to the outlands.... Winterfall Village in wintersprings is a great place to farm. they are decently low levels (56-58), respawn fast, always drops greens and even some blues, a rare walks around once in a while and a chest almost respawns every 10-15 minutes in random spots with food, drink, Blues, Greens, and lots of Bars and Ores for you miner/blacksmiths.
Cords are 67|35
Also its very close to town so you can vendor your trash.
Best to go when there isn't alot of people around like early morning or late night. Reason why I am here and not the armory is because the drops in outlands dont DE for Illusion or Dream dust.
Dream dust + Runecloth = Wizardweave robes = cheap cloth to DE in bulk

Ok I went to Tyr's Hand to farm some Runecloth.
At first I thought it was going to be rubbish, as the first 3 mobs didnt drop anything but silver.
But then I had one drop 4 runecloth, and another 1, then another 3... obviously not every kill has dropped runecloth, but the pulls are nice and easy, spread out without risking aggro'ing other mobs (well im 70)
As for difficulty of the mobs, they don't really hit that hard, even for late level-50s elites. HP isnt that huge either. Surprised a mage felt the mobs were that damaging, as most of them are casters.
Warders - Retri Paladins. Ok these do hit the hardest, as theyre essentially melee that try to heal themselves near death. But eh, I was gettin hit for no more than 150 per hit. No more than what outland/hellfire mobs hit for.
Clerics - Priests. Most of there attacks were resisted, died too quickly to heal -.-
Enchanters - Mages. Again, resisted 90% of their arcane bolts/missiles, and died quite quick.
IMO most should find this area quite easy at 70, cos you'll resist so much of their attacks (although melee classes will find the warders less of a threat).
Good place all in all.

The ogres outside of Dire Maul are no longer elites avg lvl 53 they still drop runecloth like they are elites 2-3 at a time.. It is a little faster farming then around thrallmar imo, waiting for the nerf.

If you're LW: Go outside DM or BRD... in fact BRD was great for me but i went with a few friends. We cleared the place and got 30 stacks plus all the hounds... tons of leather/large brilliant shards.
I'd say get a tailor, a LW, and an enchanter and you all make out like crazy.

Its quite a nice farming spot early morning, but later on people are leveling a lot so it slows you down a little. + I had to put up with dam alliance stealing mining nodes from me while i am killing the mobs to allow me to mine the node (and i am alliance as well)

this says the % drops, but whitch is the higher % drop?
Is that It doesn´t show in which mobs the % is higher. (like a top with the 10 more) and it´s many mobs to find which is the higher.
SOmebody know which mob is?

Tyr's Hand is a real nice place for an Affliction Warlock with Shadoweave set. Just 3 DoTs is enough, and your set heals you pretty effective there. mostly 3-4 runecloth per mob, doesnt drop 100% tough ofc. But still real nice place.

You can get to halfway through honoured (6,000 out of 12,000) through just questing and killing certain mobs (I don't know which ones)
So from there you would need 6,000 + 21,000 = 27,00 rep
divide by 50 (rep per stack of runecloth) = 540 stacks (10,800 pieces of runecloth)
say 3g per stack on the AH and you're looking at spending over 1,600g to achieve exalted, and since the only reason you want to get exalted is for an epic mount you still need to spend another 800g to buy the mount
So you could end up spending 2,500g on your epic mount - I'm looking forward to it, bring on an Epic Raptor for my Orc

I found the best place by far to farm this stuff is from the teddys in southern felwood. Good drop rate, easy to kill, fast respawn + timbermaw rep

Ok face it people when TBC comes out the value of this will dissapear as the lvl 70 will be able to get it so much easier. As such selling your runecloth now, while its still expensive means more gold then waiting. if you really need runecloth then sell what you got now and buy more new runecloth for the same money whne the prices have crashed. (Or grind for it when you're on your way to lvl 70).

Farming some of these high dropping rate mobs requires that you be a higher level. If you're in the early 50s, the humanoids in the Jaedenar cave in Felwood have a decent drop rate. They drop anywhere from three to five stacks per run through, which isn't that bad if you can do it quickly.
Also, handing in a stack of Runecloth now gives 75 rep not 50. Getting from Honoured to Exalted now only takes 280 stacks. 2G per stack, 560g, plus the 600g for the epic mount: 1160g. Not that bad. :D

June 2020
Classic 1.13
Timbermaw in north Felwood
50 kills - 18 runecloth Not worth the time.
No blues, no greens, nothing but an orb and bananas, and even the feather drop seems very low now.
UPDATE Feb 2021
Have made the rounds a few times since June '20. Picked up a few greens since then and an
Epic Staff
.
Returned today and after 24 kills I have a few pieces of roasted quail, a savage bear claw, a thick hide, and 9 feathers. So the feather rate isn't too bad, but there
is no rune cloth
so far.

The best place to farm this is strathholme.
I get 6stacks /10mins aoe farming this on my paladin.
If you don't have a paladin you could afk outside strathholme offering 1g per stack and most paladins would sell it as it usually just gets vendored.
