Very powerful, but IIRC there is a chance to instead take 300% damage for the 8 seconds.
Very expensive to make.
Very powerful when it works.
Just 5 minute CD.
When it fails you die for sure very fast (300% damage taken)
Are either of these effects dispellable?
it's a magic, so i think yes. Further testing proves that it won't protect your from falling damage, and that 8 sec is actually a 6sec.
A few points:
Nigh? Shouldn't it be 'high'?
If you die if the belt fails I'm thinking you don't lose durability.
This is a pretty amazing item if your the last one alive in an instance run- a clothie probably and you need to run and reset the boss.
Does it works in arena's?
This item does indeed work in arena!
Anyone know the success chance? If it's not reliable, I won't make this, but otherwise... tasty.
anyone else get the "The Tick" reference?
"It's okay Arthur, i'm nigh invulnerable!"
Anyone know if you can equip and use once you change to goblin engin?
thanks in advance
For those of you debating whether or not to get this item, I would strongly suggest that you do. The mats themselves are not THAT expensive (couple hundred gold on most servers) and 4000 damage is ALOT. One thing to keep in mind is that this belt will block damage only, meaning that you are still susceptible to all forms of cc. However, as stated above, it is useable in arenas and it has a relatively short cooldown (5m). I find that it works at least 80% of the time (estimation) and blizzard announced that they will buff the success rate even more in 2.1.0. Definitely worth it, get it and don't look back.
To those interested,
I have this belt and use it all the time in arena. Not considering the backfire effect, this belt rocks any belt you can think of as a cloth mummy.
However, in addition to that, the belt is boosted in the upcoming patch. +168 armor and +5 Sta if the stats on this page is accurate.
As others have said, awesome belt when it doesnt kill you, very very expensive to make. To break it down, assume the following values (granted prices differ from server to server to I am rounding it)
8 Heavy Knothide Leather, 4g apiece = 32g
4 Khorium Power Cores, 37g apeice = 148g
(25g per Primal Fire, 4g per Khorium Bar)
10 Primal Life, 7.5g apiece = 75g
10 Primal Shadow, 2.5g apiece = 25g
2 Delicate Arcanite Convertor, 10g apiece = 20g
Total comes out to 300g give or take +/- 50g based on your server economy, hope you already have your epic mount! =p
Can rogues cloak of shadows out of the negative effect?
The debuff isn't classifies as any type of spell, so I assume is can't be dispelled or cloak of skill'ed out of.
the only hard-to-get mats are the khorium power cores. the leathers and converters are cheap. and the rest can be easily farmed no matter what professions you have.
so plan ahead, camp Qiff in netherstorm with a bankie and AH for good deals(30ish gp per power core would be a good deal).
can someone tell me if the bubble has a timer on it or it stays until it fully absorbs 4000 dmg or someone dispels/purges it
What is the minimum level needed for this belt to work? It would be godly for a low leveled twink, but I wouldn't be surprised if Blizz took that into consideration when designing this item. Is there a scaling effect for lower leveled players? Or is the sole requirement 350 engineering?
in response to sekah, technically the only req. is 350eng.
however to get any profession past 300 requires a minimum character lvl of 50.
This one can be spellstealed by a mage
Is the internal cooldown on the same clock as The Skull of Gul'dan?
can someone tell me if im able yo use this in cat/bear/dire bear/tree of life/moonkin form?
pretty cool belt. most of the times makes you practically die hard but there is a 2% chance that you get a debuff and take 200% damage which will lead to sure death
I don't know where you got the idea the failure rate was 2%. As I mentioned in another comment, out of 71 uses I recorded a 14% failure rate. Pretty good for an engineering item, but a lot higher than the number you quote.
I kinda wish gear made with engineering were item enhancements instead. I mean, it kinda sucks having to use belts like these for the effect.
Maybe they could just scale down the effect if they think it would be overpowered, and make it an attachment to belts?
Engineering needs more items that can be shared, too much of this prof. is limited to self use, even on the weak/low end stuff.
I had actually started to grind mats for this on my priest, but then I found out that it would cost me over 500g (!), so i delayed the project, i don't think it's worth that much.
This was btw on Darksorrow (EU)
When it fizzles, it casts this spell :
The Tick: Nigh Invulnerable
one thing to note about the back fire is that it puts an arrow similar to hunter's mark over your head for the duration. just to say HEY EVERYONE! YOU CAN KILL ME IN 2 SECONDS!
The reason they made rocket boots xtreme lite was that so all classes should be able to get the 5 min CD sprint ability.
This belt is already available to all classes, so I doubt they'll make another version of it.
Does anyone know whether the damage absorbed is physical damage only, or ALL damage (like magic dmg)?
This item is extremely reliable, I have been using it for a couple weeks now in arena and i would give it a 95% sucess rate, probably higher, it has failed only twice ever for me. This is a must have for all PvP engineers.
For a 5 minute cooldown, I expect this to have a pretty high failure rate..
Still, would be imba for arena.
Excellent to use as a last-ditch effort.
Using it while at full/above 1/4 health is a waste... pop it when you are about to die and you can often get in a few more seconds of blasting away or buy a bit of time for a heal... etc.
Good in arena, good for flag running. Does sometimes fail... its basicly death if it fails if your taking damage... so only use it if death is imminent and its a great effect.
Tell me you don't understand the reference. I dare you.
These are badass plain and simple.
It usually works but yea when it fuks up it really does. I'd give them about a 70% success rate. It's not really a question of how much damage it takes when it goes wrong, you will just die the second it's put on
Ok alone they are just a little useful but the real touch is when u combine them with a Gnomish Death Ray. The death ray usually takes some of your health and sends a bolt taking off a random chunk of your enemies health. If you activate the Nigh Invulnerability Belt before starting up the death ray it takes no health of you and u get a free wack at your opponent. Its beautiful standing their taking what ever they throw at you and then screwing them.
I love this combination and I regularly kill hordes that are a couple of levels above me.
Ok the problems with this combo is when it fails and you die, also it doesn't defend you against those annoying spells that send you running around uncontrollably.
/buy crit prediction helemt
This belt sucks. Gets dispelled at the drop of a hat. Then when it doesn't get dispelled, it fails. Sucks. Not close to worth it for me.
I just crafted one of these for myself on the Azuremyst server. (horde side)
The mats are very insane and this belt is worth well over a thousand gold.
The mats are as follows:
Heavy Knothide Leather x8 (40x Knothide Leather)
Primal Life x10 (100 mote of life)
Delicate Arcanite converter x2 (2 arcanite bar, 2 ironweb spidersilk)
Khorium Powercore x4 (12 Khorium bars 4 primal fire )
Primal Shadow x10 (100 most of shadow)

has anyone had this damage shield purged by shaman or priest?
that may be deciding factor, for me.
lol i just bought it like 10 days ago for 5g from a guy i think a hackers he had 12 of them but still it is great i have used it like 100 times in wsg and never had a "rare" falure yeah it rocks
When it malfunctions, it casts
on you, which doubles damage done to you, and also puts a hunter's mark on you, making you completely vulnerable.
It's not the end of the world if you're a rogue, warrior, or paladin, you could still survive, but if you're a clothy, it's probably the end of the world.
It seems to malfunction 1/6th, or 1/8th of the time. Still a great item, with an amazing 5minute cooldown. Finally, a decent engineering item.
Engineering Paladin here. Costs quite a bit to make, but having a secondary bubble really helps, no matter what the situation.
1. PVP, really throws off their game. It looks like the normal Paladin bubble, but there is no speed decrease. Quite a surprise when you hit the real bubble.
2. Great against multiple mobs. Gives you some added time to heal, set up spells, whatever.
The cooldown is great. Yeah it's cloth, but what else could it be? Everyone needs a chance at it.
Recommended highly, even with the gnomish quirks.
This item still works in the arena as of 2-16-07. And is probably the only worthwhile point of having eng.
omg yes you can dispell it, just like you can spellsteal it
Although i still do quite high dmg, with the Vulnerability Debuff, look what i got (non crit) =P
I guess if you are a paladin you can use this as your first bubble and if it backfire, use your real one
You need to be lvl 50 to get it though. Lvl 300+ engineering requires lvl 50 :-)
Would rock at lvl 19 though ;P
Can a rogue use cloak of shadows if i get the debuff?
Most people seem to have missed the point of its usefulness. Yeah it would be a terrific pain to take double damage from full health, but then, if you were already nearly dead what would it matter. If it fails you were still as likely to die anyway. better to be on 200hp and still have a fighting chance for 8 seconds.
I love love love it. If yer engineer you just simply have to make it and use it whenever possible. Awesome for world pvp, bgs, instances, raid-instances. Just all-around awesome.
imo, this is one of the best belts for PvP, and people that complain about the backfire... look at it this way... use it ONLY when you are about to die so if it malfunctions you're going to die anyway. IT SAVES >>> LIVES <<
What if you use shadow word:death while your belt is activated? It still absorbs the dmg you normally would take, right?
I'm an affliction warlock and use this belt constantly in arena matches when i'm just about to die (out of like 15 tries it has never backfired). While it may not completely save my ass in the long run, it still keeps me alive just long enough for me to plant a few DOTs on my enemies.
This belt is a lifesaver in arena battles if you're a spellcaster and only use it if you're about to die. Worst case scenario, if it backfires on you, you were gonna die anyways.
I has this belt. I've had it for about a week and I've used it at least 40 times. I'd say it's backfired 4 times. I am a warlock so I can tell you that when you put on this shield, it is subject to arcane shot, and you are subject to interrupts(spell lock, pummel, kick, counterspell, etc). But, melee attacks wont interrupt you if they are fully absorbed. It is usuable in arena but not wise to use unless you really need to have that warrior at 0 rage the whole time, or you're about to die.
This any multiple other items are awesome
Makes me wonder how people say that engineering is bad
Question: For general arena purposes, this or a pvp belt?
Nigh Invulnerability Belt Information:
requires engineering 350, goblin and gnomish can wear it
has always, and still does, work in arena
approx 90% chance to give you a shield for 8 sec
approx 10% chance to debuff, doubles damage taken for 8 sec
prevents interruption of spell casting (from damage)
does NOT prevent interruption of bandaging, the bandage will be stopped
Different ways to use:
Several people suggest using this belt when your health is really low cause if it debuffs you would have been dead anyway. The problem with this is that even if you do get the shield, all the enemy players are still going to be attacking you since your health is low. On the other hand, if you use this shield when your at or near full health people will assume you got BOPed or some other healer shield.. and they switch to a different target. So there are benefits to using this shield at all sorts of different times in battle. When you do get the debuff run run run LOS. Using this belt when your almost dead is a fine tactic as well.
I was on wsg, i had flag.. and 100% debuff, 5x scorch.... and when i used this damm belt i have been crited for 24031 Pom-pyro ;/
Requires Gnomish to make, 350 engineering of either school to wear it...
Get it in BB from the gnomish trainer.
and ZOMG this belt is wicked nasty in arena. Sure, the debuff happens every now and again, to be honest i've seen the belt work at least 11 times in a row before the debuff happened.
I spent 1400g to up engineering from 1-350 just for this belt, and I havent had a regret since. (sup dude? Im a warlock...)
TOTALLY WORTH IT IMO.
Also usable when you expect to take a good amount of damage (rogue blew AR for example). If it backfires, use your rocket boots and gtfo.
...because you can change your belt a) in Arena and b) in combat..."OKAY"
The spell ID for the buff Nigh-Invulnerability is 30456.
