Probably a worse choice for damage avoidance than the Subtle Living Ruby (
), which grants you +8 Dodge Rating. Dodge rating translates into a considerably higher avoidance percentage than Parry rating.
This gem could be attractive to combat rogues using riposte. Otherwise, I don't really see why one would use it; parry isn't a spectacular attribute all around.
Need I also mention that this can also be used for more procs on the t4 set since every parry will result in 200 absorbed damage. This will also result in more aggro (I think), based on absorbing damage. I'm also not sure if the proc will stack from the t4 set.
All things considered, I still think +8 dodge is a better choice.
8 parry rating translates to .34% parry at level 70.
You can look at to detailed list of the rare gems :
And in Sunwell, the mobs have a buff that reduces your chance to dodge by 20% anyways
8 parry rating
= 0.35714285% parry at level 70.
best red gem for tanking warrior i guess
+dodge rating is better in your red spots
X parry rating gives you less % to parry than X dodge rating gives you % to dodge.
This is because parrying an attack gives you a haste buff to your next swing. For a tank, this is pretty irrelevant, so they'd rather +dodge.
Parry is still the very best mitigation stat for tanks.
both dodge and parry are complete misses, but a parry will grant a warrior tank the rage he would receive if the attack actually hit him, therefore parry is better than dodge, and should be prioritised. this is the best blue gem then, mitigationwise for a warrior tank at least.
Let me dispel a myth. Parry does NOT grant rage. Parry is a dodge and a 40% haste on next swing.
Why is Parry a great stat? It helps to generate awesome threat (more swings = more dps = more threat). It SHOULD be more desired in end-game raiding than it is. Why? Because when your DPS is geared past Kara, the tank's threat can become a bottleneck since DPS will have to 'hold back' so as to not out-threat the tank and pull-aggro. If DPS can let rip, then it's a shorter fight, and a shorter fight means less chance of a wipe.
How does it compare to dodge? In layman's terms, let's say you are in a fist fight. If you have lots of dodge, you can bob and weave the whole fight and not get hit. However, if you have lots of parry, each time you bob or weave, you also chin check your opponent (recall Muhammed Ali's famed "rope-a-dope" boxing style? If not, Google a video). You tell me, now. Which is the better stat?
Note that upper tier gear has 'massive' Parry. Why? See above. It is arguably the best (expertise is the only better IMHO) yet most misunderstood tank stat.
Parry/Expertise heavy Build
every mitigation has it's ups and downs, dodge is great too, since you can't perry an attack from behind, but you can still dodge it.
ok, I did some testing on my own. I attacked a low level mob and let it keep hitting me (warrior with the shield and a one-hander) from the front from the sides and from the back... I was watching my haste rating, rage generation and ability to block, dodge, and perry from each position: From what I've seen, there's no rage generation from any of the metigations (unless you spec into shield spec), also I haven't seen any haste increase on my character info tab, not even for the next swing, regardless whether I dodge, block, or perry. Also, you can only dodge, block, or perry only from the front or from the sides, but not from the back, the only metigation that works from all around is miss, mobs can miss you from anywhere, haven't tried magical metigation yet, but I'm trying to come up with the controlled testing conditions for magic dmg. Hope it helps
how much %% is this +8 parry for a pally/warrior ?
