16 spell hit pts = 1.27% chance to hit at lvl 70.
24 spell crit pts = 1.09% chance to crit at lvl 70.
Also, the set bonus has a 5% proc chance.
was buffed with 2.07
now additionally has 16 sta and 12 int, pants received 12 sta and 8 int at no cost.
Yes, it was changed. As of 2.0.7, this item now looks like:
Socket Bonus: +4 Stamina
Durability 60 / 60
Requires Level 70
Equip: Improves spell hit rating by 16.
Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 24.
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 46.
BTW, this item is currently the best raid caster dps helm (although Tier 6 may beat it, but those items are not in-game yet)
So to make it, you need to have BoP pattern which has BoP mats.
So, how can one acquire this if your not lucky enough to get this drop?
Its quite a pity that the bonus only applies to those who have Tailoring as a proffession. They are quite expensive to make for a non-tailor.
For fireball 5% proc that lasts for 10 seconds is like having the +damage active 0.05*3 % of the time. So the set bonus is worth 13.8 spell damage with fireball and double that with arcane blast or scorch spammage.
Also this set is by far the best caster DPS set available. Even T5 headpiece is only worth wearing with the 5% chance to cast next spell in 1/2 time, and even then due to the requirement of the gem the DPS you're going to lose by using more purple (or blue) gems than orange (or yellow) gems is going to make the T5 headpiece just not good enough at least if you're a tailor for the set bonus. I mathed T5 to be worth about 7 more spell damage with the meta compared to spellstrike hood assuming it makes you lose the set bonus which is worth 13.8 damage, while every item that I would see myself using would have a yellow socket for every blue socket so if you get the socket bonus they cancel eachother, and if you give up the socket bonus you should be putting all red gems anyway which again does nothing to enable the meta gem. And with any other meta gem T4/5 headpieces plain suck compared to spellstrike.
Barely better than wearing evokers helm of second sight and probably not worth the cost imho. Even the legs arent much better than Devil-Stitched.
Pretty easy to get, if you're willing to farm for it.
Farm for primal air and fire on the elemental plateau, primal mana in Netherstorm, primal water in the lake near Shattrath, and buy the primal earth from AH (you could also farm this in the plateau/ Netherstorm, but why bother since it's only about 5g?).
Collect the spellcloth (make/ buy/ trade for it), then find a tailor who has the nether and the pattern. The usual charge is around 200g.
Im a spellcloth tailor, and to get this took overall three * reset time for cloths, 4days. So I got this in 12 days. Primal mights are pretty easy to grind in that time also.
This is pretty nice for a mage, went right after I got the whole set into Black Morass. In every riftkeeper this setbonus procced once or twice. Easily when you are making scorch debuffs.
The only thing I miss in this is a metagem slot. But it's really good anyway.
It's a big shame that such an awesome helm was made to look SOOO stupid.
What is it with Blizzard? Spellstrike hood, Spellfire vest? Ugh.
Does the set bonus proc with DoTs? Cause if it doesn't having this set with my lock has almost no reason except direct/semidirect spells (shadowbolt, shadowburn, immolate... etc)
These are amazing really for the price. They sell for about 1000-1200g on my server, and considering how easy cash is to get these days they are worth every copper.
Shadow Priest, Warlocks or Mages tbh, imba..
how good is this set for balance druids?
Im new to balance gear and I would like to know if this is worth the money/time for a balance druid. (no tailoring)
How often does this proc? say -- out of ten ?
*Drools* I really want this hood. IMO Getting the spellstrikeset+spellfire set is a real good combo for fire mages atleast
Mana, Netherstorm, Mana wraiths or Mana Stalkers drop them really often.
Fire: Elemental place in Nagrand or in Blades Edge Mountains (volcano near the entrance to Netherstorm)
Water: Zangarmarsh, The lagoon. Kill the eels. They drop them alot.
Earth: IMO you should buy this on AH:P Since the price is really low.. On my server its 3g per primal earth:P
And be ready to tip the tailor. Some servers you might get as lucky as getting a primal nether for 50g.
not a bad hood, but it will cost you 800+ gold to get it crafted which is kind of a waste seeing the Hood of Hexing from ZA is twice as good and you can get from a drop (or buy from top guilds for 500g, which is cheaper than spellstrike hood anyway).
I am pretty sure that this is better... but i was wondering whether or not this would be better than Merciless Gladiator's Felweave Cowl for a raiding warlock?
I can make both Hood And Pants on Spinebreaker Alliance side. /W Angeliq lvl 70 human mage. Gogogo:P
Valyinish on Laughing Skull EU can make this
This droped from Grand Warlock Nethekurse couple of night ago.
So i can make this: Broom on Frostmane EU
I can make this Item,too
Heinrick, Eredar (EU-German), Horde.
Lyncher on Khaz'goroth, Horde side can craft this.
Caite on Burning Blade alliance can make this.
We got this off Grand Warlock Nethekurse tonight in Shattered Halls.
The spellstrike set is certainly nice, but I think the trade-offs are too much. I am currently equiped with Collar of Aldor and Trial Fire Pants. The gems in both of these pieces add 33 damage, 4 crit, 9 hit, and 6 stamina to the base stats.
The spellstrike set with 4 veiled noble topaz and 2 runed living rubies would add 2 damage, 19 crit, and 45 hit over my current gear.* That's the good news. The bad news is it would cost me 55 int, 32 stamina, and 17 spirit. 55 int is about 715 mana (1 Int=13 mana according to wowwiki).
I can't justify trading 715 mana for 45 hit, 19 crit, and 2 damage. I'm at 119 hit now, so while another 45 would nearly cap me it's not going to add that much more dps in a long boss fight. I might land 1 or 2 more fireballs into a 5-minute fight which would otherwise be resisted, but losing 715 mana may mean I get to cast 1 or 2 fewer fireballs.
If I were a pre-Kara mage, I would definitely get the Spellstrike set. But given that I have the best mage pants/helm from Kara now, I don't think it's worth the tradeoff and the expense.
* I'm counting the Spellstrike set bonus into the damage calculations. The set's bonus damage is 92 and apparently the proc rate is 5%. Thus, on average the set bonus will add 5 damage (92 * 5% = 4.6 = 5 rounded up) to each spell (ignoring the 10 sec duration, which would actually lower the 5 pts I am using in the calculations).
I can make both the hood, and the pants.
Solidoxygen on Alliance Crushridge US.
I can make this on Garona - Alliance side.
- Cerdia, Zoi Dia Thanatos
Hey dropped for me off of first boss in Shattered Halls 2 days ago.
Message Cicero on Venture Co. Alliance. I can make the whole set
IMHO does not worth the time and effort to gather the mats or the money to spend for buying them. Comparing this one with Evoker's Helmet of Second Sight the quest reward from Shadowmoon Valley you can clearly see that.
Evoker's Helmet of Second Sight
Equip: +35 spell/healing dmg, +24 spell crit
2 blue sockets,1 yellow Socket bonus:+5 Spell dmg
Now Spellstrike Hood has -3 Int and +4 Sta in stats, socket bonus is +4 stamina instead of spell dmg so you get only +6 spell dmg more after you socket the gems.
Spell crit is the same and you gain +16 spell hit with hood.
So does it worth the trouble to make them in order to get +6 spell dmg,+16 spell hit and +8 stamina more? Someone will say that if you pairing them with the pants they will give good equip bonus but at which price and how often it procs?
Some times I wonder if someone in Blizzard compares crafted items with quest rewards :P
Bronze dragonflight sever EU- northers can make!
Timmey on Alliance Hyjal can make this
Finally after few instance run for Thrallmar rep, this pattern dropped. So I can make it, Woyruu on EU-Nagrand. Hopefully I will get the pants pattern, too.
Is this worth getting w/o the bonus? Im currently wearing first stage PVP epics :X
Hood and pants rock, especially the set bonus. For firemages which participate in raids mostly it is the ne plus ultra, and it will be for a long time (in combination with spellfire items).
Reroll your craftskills to tailoring :P
Anyone know how often the set bonus tends to proc? Just wondering if its worth the mats to get the pants to go with the hood as the pants aren't a huge upgrade for how much the mats are going for....
do you have to be a tailor to get the set bonus for this? i have these and my set bonus isn't highlighted.
Can do this on Haomarush(eu) <3
/w Lovefur (alliance)
Great helm, better then tier 4 for mages and shadow priests. The spell blasting set bonus is a good one too.
People that post how something takes too much work to get for only nominal stat increases clearly has no idea how this game works.
Blizzard is not going to give you a +200 spell dmg increase for 2g. In fact you're not going to get a +200 dmg increase period. Unless you're upgrading from greens to purples but thats hardly the point.
When you upgrade your gear, whether its a new arena season or the next teir of raiding you will get small increases, perhaps no increases on some stats. You can claim these increases are pointless but when you figure say 10 gem sockets, 10 pieces of gear, 10 enchants. (this is just an example so don't go telling me how many slots there are on a paper doll) then imagine even just +2 on a single stat to each of those you're now +60 ahead. Thats the point.
Also, if you're passing up +hit as a raider you're a fool. There is tonnes of math junkies all over the web ready to prove this to you if you don't believe me.
Do some research and learn to play effectively before making ridiculous assumptions.
Seems like they allso raised the procrate of the setbonus when they buffed all craftable epic sets.
Used to be like 5-10% now it seems to proc a lot more often.
The Materials Needed to craft this set (hood/pants) are:
360 - Netherweave Cloth
40 - Arcane Dust
30 - Primal Mana
30 - Primal Fire
10 - Primal Air
10 - Primal Earth
10 - Primal Water
02 - Primal Nether
Have Fun Farming, I know I will.
(If you only need 1 piece, cut the number of mats in half)
ive built both this set and the spellfire set, the proc rate of the +92 damage is more or less like a trinket, seldomly after it procs, it can proc again after the 10 secs. im quite happy with this set. although the pants are absolutely UGLY
Grand Warlock Nethekurse dropped this in regular Shattered Halls. I gladly took this in place of my sought after idol.
The Spellstrike set bonus procs on all your harmful spells that included dots and channeled spells. Only the initial hit of the Mind Flay spell can make it proc but not the 3 ticks in it.
Also reapplying a dot can trigger the proc even if the target currently has an old dot of the same kind on it.
Have tested this myself and it's easily done with lower rank spells like Shadow Word: Pain Rank 1.
Have also tested it on wand since the old Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon proced of wands but the Spellstrike set bonus doesn't seem to proc on that after an extensive test.
what would be the best Gems to put in here ?
It is rare to find someone who says that spelldmg or crit >stam in pvp. Of course you need dps for pvp but I find that (and this is the general consensus) that stam is better for pvp. Sure if you are really good they wont touch most of the time. but for the inevitable time that they do, you better not die in 2 hits.
mwallace I think that you had every right to roll for it, who cares that you had 10 less skill points? whoopity doo dah, you was fighting just as much as he was. Whoever rolls highest wins, it's that easy. That's fair to me. You both had a need for the pattern and you just got lucky, he wanted to cry because he's a puss. I wouldn't waste any time worrying over him and I'd most def not make him one if he's such a tit.
They're worth it for the sockets alone, add three Runed Living Rubies and thats a whole extra 27 spell damage, or add 3 Glowing Dawnstones and thats an extra 24 spell crit rating. If you're a tailor, thats an added bonus. (However always consider a helmet with a meta slot, as Mystical Skyfire Diamonds are awesome as well)
It's pretty obvious that the spellstike set is one of the best for raiding around. It is lacking in stats a bit primarily stam and int. But it has a ton of damage especially with +9 or +12 dmg gems in it. Also the Set Bonus procs very often! I can sometimes get 2-3 procs a boss fight which is a huge damage boost.
You won't find a better upgrade through Kara or Mag. Once you get into SSC and TK it can be replaced with a few different things for some more stats mainly if you can get the Cowl of the Grand Engineer off Void Reaver or the Pants of High Astromancer. Otherwise if your a shadow priest and looking for high damage with a little sacrifice in stam and int this won't be replaced easily until Tier 6 and Hyjal/BT gear.
The mats for it kind of suck to grind but it's really worth it considering the amount of time you will be using this set, and quite a few people have the patterns to craft it so you won't be looking long.
I personally use Spellstrike for Raiding and Battlecast for PvP until I can get some more Merciless Gear.
Around 500g for the spellcloth, another 500g for the Might, from 75-125g for the Nether (unless you craft it yourself).
it dosn't say so on the item, but under the Set name, this means you need 350 Tailoring to activate the Set bonus, but EVERYONE can use the item.
Proc Rate of Set bonus:
This does not count as a trinket so poping a trinket after you gain "lesser Spellpower" or however the Set buff was called, works.
Basically spellstrike/spellfire is the UNIFORM for pve fire and/or arcane mages once they hit 70. There is a good reason why most of us have it, which is because it lasts for ages and is awesome. It is better than tier 4 which is why most of us pass or say meh to the t4 tokens in Kara. Mages are meant to be weak but put out high dps. Their spells do nothing if they dont't hit the target, so you need +spell hit to fight lvl 73 bosses, even if you swap in gear just for those battles like me. Having high stamina or even crit from most pvp gear wont help you to do these things in raids if you get spell resists 17% of the time. I have seen friend after friend deny this, then as they go raiding and slip further down the damage meters, they have taken up tailoring and quietly reappeared in this stuff. Having said that, if I hadn't levelled tailoring for these items, I'd be happy to have some of the head/leg caster drops from Kara instead (Trial-fire, uni-mind, wicked witch's hat) but I pass on these drops for other casters at this stage since they just don't provide the same firepower.
*SpellFire set mat's:
26 Spellcloth, 10 Primal Mights, 2 Primal Nethers
*SpellStrike set mat's:

10 Netherweb, and 2 Primal Nether
*Gems: Hit cap is 164
Chaotic Skyfire Diamond
Vieled Nobel Topaz
After Hit cap - Rubed Living Ruby
*Preferred raid spec: Fire 3/47/11 - Ice Veins
