The Gladiator's Spellblade (dagger) + Gladiator's Endgame (offhand) amounts in a total of +16 more damage and 9 more resilience. Though, the staff has +spell hit and +spell crit, and neither the dagger or offhand have either. It all comes down to your class. As a smite build priest (without the free crit smite talent), I'll be going for the dagger + offhand. It'll save my squishiness with more resilence and will indefinately boost my damage by a small number.

Shadow Priest will love this staff, mostly due to the fact that +hit is much more important for them. Affliction Warlocks and Frost Mages may pick it up too. Fire/Arcane Mages, Destruction locks will want the dagger and off-hand combo.

As much as playing a Warlock makes me prone to Dagger/Sword + Offhand combos, this staff is hawt. It also, unlike the current PvP Spellblade and Offhand, is better then the Gladiator Spellblade + Endgame.

33 spell crit pts = 1.49% chance to crit.

This staff is much more intimidating that the Spellblade+Endgame combo. Not to mention the Sta and Int are higher. But in the end it's all about compromise: More stat's or more damage. Being a warlock, I'd choose the staff, having 3 different fear spells to choose from, there is no excuse for having to use mele such as the dagger, but if you're a aggro stealer, then choose the spellblade; also if you're up against casters, because the speed of attack will delay their cast time much better than the staff. But all around the staff is more appealing for anyone. And it would go nicely with the Corruptors Raiment. :)
P.S. Affliction 'Locks and DoT'ers do not benefit form Crit rating, HOWEVER, having the occaisional crit in raiding would make this a very versatile staff for either PvP or PvE.

This staff will require between 400-800 arena matches (appx). the arena matches, unless you go against a full rogue team who stealths then entire time, essentially turning into a very long battle...should go quickly, normally 1-4 minutes.
In a typical day of pvping, you can expect to earn 400-800. by typical, i mean roughly 10-12 hours of pvp.
If you are drooling at this like the rest of us are...and cant afford that amount of time pvping, you'll unfortunately not see this for a good while. I know that this will be the first thing ill be spending my arena points on though... hugest upgrade.

How to compare spelldmg and +crit/hit:
First, download the mod ratingbuster, this will show you how many percent crit or hit you get from a specific rating at your level.
As said before; 21 hit = 1.67% and 33 crit = 1.5%
Lets say your main dps comes from frostbolt, and you would normally hit around 1300, and crit around 2600.
+1.5% crit would give you 1950 additional dmg every 100 frostbolts,
+1.7% hit = +2200 dmg every 100 frostbolts. 1950+2200=4150.
With talents you get around 0.7 times your spelldmg added to your frostbolts. 1/(0.7)*4150/100 = 60.
So: 21 crit + 33 hit = 60 spell dmg. (For frostbolt spamming in pve)

For a mage (yes, even frost mages), crit is more desirable for farming and PvP; despite the fact that it may not amount to +dmg...
If you had +60 damage, would it help you farm? Probably not since it most likely doesn't affect the amount of casts it takes to bring something down. Crit, however, will occasionally save you a cast. Much better for farming imo.
Same with PvP. If you were to crit someone, chances are they're closer to dead than if you had even +100 bonus damage.
My mage is close to 30% crit self buffed and I'm loving it. It takes two shots to farm most lv 68-70 mobs if I crit on an opening fireball.
Just my two copper :)

As a PvE Balance druid I would take this staff over the Dagger + possible offhand.
It's very viable for raiding to have a nice mana and health pool and this staff gives that plus incredible stats :).
Admitted, a dagger + an offhand would give more spelldamage overall, but the stats and the + hit and + crit make this staff imho better for PvE Boomkins.
Controversy is of course that you need to pvp quite a lot to get it ;) but it's nice to drool over anyway :P.

I dont know about you guys, but in PvE alot of + hit is very nice and will up your dps alot, this also transfers into PvP. Granted you dont need to have as much hit for PvP as you would PvE but a little bit does help, so im going to try and keep the +hit on other items i have (neck + rings other non Gladiator set items) to make sure my spells hit the target. I dont want them resisting my shadowbolts or CC abilities now do I? one resist could change an arena battle. So, i suggest you try and obtain some hit =) 5% + should be fine

Since the 1H Arena weapon currently costs 3150 points (melee 1H cost 2600), I think I am going to save a few more points and get this staff.
Plus, this thing looks really cool.

As a high +dmg spec affliction lock I lose a bit of stam due to spec / gear so on mobs where I have a chance to pull aggro, this is certainly a nice increase in overall stats. Plus more + hit = less chance to get a resist which as a affliction lock is a pure annoyance. You get into a rhytem with dot applications and resist throws it off completely.
So the stats of the staff is perfect @
+48 Stamina
+32 Intellect
spell hit rating by 21.
spell critical strike rating by 33.
your resilience rating by 22.
damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 187.
+ 40 damage = 227 dmg / healing total
For a fight where I would want to maximize +dmg and less concerned about aggro or other effects that could drain health. This is the combo that I would use:
Gladiator Spellblade
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28297
+24 Stamina
+16 Intellect
Improves your resilience rating by 16.
Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 187.
+40 spell damage = 227 damage
&
Orb of the Soul Eater
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29272
(Cost 25 Badges of Justice. 1 Badge per Heroic boss killed)
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29434
+15 Stamina
Increases damage done by Shadow spells and effects by up to 49.
So in total the MH/OH combo would net 49 more Shadow Damage and lose 9 Stam, 16 intellect, 21 spell hit, and 33 crit. They are essentially a very fair tradeoff and depends on the situation of use. All of the items are actually pretty easy to obtain. If you are on a 5v5 arena team you earn roughly 400 points a week just for running 10 games and 26 Heroic Bosses can be done rather quickly as well.

Surprisingly, no one has compared and contrasted this weapon with its rival, the dagger/off-hand combo offered by the arena. Here are the stats:
Gladiator's War Staff:
48 Stamina
32 Intellect
21 Spell Hit
33 Spell Crit
22 Resilience
187 Damage and Healing
Gladiator's Spellblade//Gladiator's Endgame:
45 Stamina
29 Intellect
32 Resilience
203 Damage and Healing
More simply, by choosing this staff over the dagger/off-hand combo, you gain 3 Stamina, 3 Intellect, 21 Spell Hit, 33 Spell crit, but you lose 10 Resilience and 16 Damage and Healing.
I would recommend this staff to Mages and Destruction Warlocks (Moreso than Affliction Warlocks and Shadow Priests).

If you are planning to buy out this staff, and you haven't got really good arena group, I suggest you to gather up some players and make up a 5vs5 arena team. It's no matter if your members doesn't know how to play. Lets say that your team wins some matches, and keeps going near 1300-1400 rating. At this moment 1300 5vs5 rating is 367 arena points, 1400 is 387. By this speed it takes nearly 10 weeks to get this staff. It's really a good way to go for this, than 24/7 2vs2 farming, since you will get a lot much less points from 2vs2 compared to 5vs5. All you have to do is play 10 matches in a week, and leech the points.
For sure this staff is better than MH/OH combo.

For the new aspiring pvper, I think
the Gladiator's Spellblade (s1)+Vengeful Gladiator's Endgame
are better. Because the offhand is already s3 this is highly upgradeable being able to switch out the blade with a s2 or s3 spellblade later.
S1 SB + VGE
59 stam
39 int
45 Res
234 dmg
NOT BAD considering you can swap out the s1 dagger for the s2 or even s3 later.

A mage for starting pve would propably get the staff. If you go for the s1 dagger + flametongue seal you will gain moderate crit , low stats and no hit rating at all. With this baby will get +21 HR , +29 CR , a remarkable ammounts of stats at the cost of 49 spell damage. I would stick with the staff cause in battles with Void Reaver , Lurker etc.. if a mage dont have at least 120 HR he will resist all the time. High Crit and High Hit is the way to if you are a PVE 10/48/3 Fire mage.

Holczhammer,
Just so you're aware, this staff WAS an arena award for many months. It is from "arena season one." It was only in a recent patch that ALL arena season one rewards became purchasable by honor points and battleground marks.
The same thing is going to happen to the current arena season two rewards when season four begins. Each season, the previous season's rewards will become cheaper, and the rewards from the season PRIOR to the previous season (i.e. from two seasons ago) will become available for purchase using regular honor points and battleground marks.
Here's how it breaks down.... again, this is just for your information:
Arena season one version: Gladiator's War Staff (27,000 honor and 40 AV marks)
Arena season two version: Merciless Gladiator's War Staff (3,261 arena points)
Arena season three version: Vengeful Gladiator's War Staff (3,750 arena points)
When season four starts, the Merciless Gladiator's War Staff will become available for honor points and battleground marks, the Vengeful Staff will be discounted to cost fewer arena points, and a new staff will be introduced. This information is based on many announcements by Blizzard and is well-known to almost everyone in the PvP community.
Incidentally, the same prefixes "Gladiator's," "Merciless Gladiator's," and "Vengeful Gladiator's," are used for many different season one, season two, and season three arena rewards (respectively). All season one rewards are available right now for purchase with honor points and battleground marks... not JUST the War Staff. Just search wowhead for the prefixes if you would like to see for yourself.
Why do they do it this way? If you want the BEST PvP gear, you have to be on an arena team. If you're willing to settle for slightly inferior gear, you can grind for it in the battlegrounds the old-fashioned way. This allows ALL players who are motivated to get these items a chance at doing so.
The post above you by "Tetris" was 100% correct at the time it was made. Please refrain from calling people "stupid" or other derogatory names on these forums, at least without doing your homework first. This site is much better than some other Warcraft data sites (which shall remain nameless), partly because there aren't a lot of pointless name-calling posts. We'd like to keep it that way, thanks.
Congratulations on getting this staff, by the way. Average queue times on my server to enter Alterac Valley range between 1.5 to 2 hours, so I may never have it. I've even seen them as long as 3 hours. Oh well. Life goes on.

Btw this is a pretty good PvE tool not only from the hit but the crit too. Not to mention the raw intellect that isn't too shabby. As in PvP it could use a litlle bit more stam. But if Blizz does that they would have to raise the stam on Merciless Glad Staff and Vengeful Glad Staff. That makes it quite of a complicated cookie but that wouldn't ahppen anyways. It's worth grinding honor for about 3 days if u grind intensly. Gl getting it. =)
P.S: It looks a lil' short for a staff but the whirling effects are sick in my opinion.

Wonder if this would be good for a Elemental Shaman.
Seeing as they have mental amounts of Spell Crit and Spell hit as it is.
So this would either; nerf their Spell Damage - due to the MH/Shield = More damage.
Or
Make them more pew pew - due to increasing their Crit and Hit.
/shrug :)

the mage helm... 1875 pts
Mage leggings... 1875 pts
Mage Chestpeice... 1875 pts
Mage gloves... 1125 pts
and last but not least, the mage Shoulders... 1500 pts

*Let's say you're on three teams (one of each format).
*Let's say that at the end of the week, each of the teams you're on ends at a 1500 rating.
*Assume that you were an active player on each team (played in at least 30% of the team's battles)
*Results at the end of the week:
*Each active player on the 5v5 team would be eligible to gain 408 arena points
*Each active player on the 3v3 team would be eligible to gain 326 arena points
*Each active player on the 2v2 team would be eligible to gain 245 arena points
So to answer your question, yes this is going to be VERY hard to get. Getting more than 1500 rating isnt easy, and anyone who says it is has either been an officer in the best guild on their server and in epicd out gear for the last 2 years(and has therefor forgotten how hard it is/was to get gear in the game), or is just stupid or on massive amounts of amphetamines and therefor stupid because they havent taken their daily dose of amphetamines which causes their brains to lag a little...

This is how arena works :
Your arena rating goes up and down when you win and lose battles.Forexample if your team got a bad rating and you win against a team with better rating than you , you will get pretty many.If they got a bad rating and you got a better one you dont get much of winning. You get arena points out of your rating... So actually you can say that you lose arena points when you lose a battle
My warlock friend and I got a 2v2 team on Nordassil the name is Exterminators and we got
1702 rating at the momemt , if we dont start a 3v3 or 5v5 team i'll guess i will get the staff in 1-2 months , cant wait gotta get 40+ spell dmg on it btw I'm a balance druid and its a brilliant staff for a balance druid.
****** 70 Balance druid , Nordassil.

10 matches for a team per week und 30% individual participation of the team's matches is the minimum.
So it's at least 3 matches per week you have to do to get some points.
Get yourself 2 buddies that don't totally suck and you can easily do 500+ points per week in 30 to 60 minutes.

Being a very experienced mage sincer the begnning of wow I will let you guys know something. Casters have been waiting for a weapon to come out of this quality since the beginning. Almost every weapon we have we wish there was something more on it.. crit.. dmg.. more int.. whatever
No heres the staff straight from the heavens. The staff with everything, regardless what quantity.
We marveled at Atiesh.. now Atiesh looks like a small twig compared to this monster.
Not only does it have some of everything, but alot of eveything.. If one invests the time into this weapon, they will be extremely happy. Probably wont have to upgrade from it until next expansion :P..
Im at 2.3k arena points and going strong atm.. Everyone on my server has spent their arena on arena armor, wand and such... suckers haha
BTW for the people who argue that its not as much dmg as the dagger-offhand combination. Please shut up.
187 dmg is insane.. to sacrafice a bit of dmg to get more crit, more hit, more res, more stam AND more int is fine! Ansd you still have 187.. you win!

Here it is...plain as day:
Gladiator's War Staff
Vs.
Gladiator's Spellblade

Gladiator's Endgame
The differences are very clear.
Staff
(
This is just listing the differences, positive or negative
)
+3 Stamina
+3 Intellect
+21 Hit Rating
+33 Crit Rating
-8 Resilience Rating
-16 To Damage/Healing
Spellblade/Endgame
(
This is just listing the differences, positive or negative
)
-3 Stamina
-3 Intellect
-21 Hit Rating
-33 Crit Rating
+8 Resilience Rating
+16 To Damage/Healing
With this assesment, you can very obviously conclude the
Gladiator's War Staff
is much better, you only lose
8 Resilience Rating and 16 To Damage/Healing
, to gain
3 Stamina, 3 Intellect, 21 Hit Rating, 33 Crit Rating
. You Decide...but it is pretty clear!
---Zarconious / Terenas / Horde / 70 Warlock
*Also: It doesnt matter what spec you are, the staff helps all specs almost equally.

The problem is not the spellblade. It's Endgame. While Spellblade and Warstaff are probably the best weapons in play, Endgame definitely is not the best off-hand. Team up Spellblade with something decent and you get even more damage.
And yes, I am going to get Spellblade next week, after playing 50 times and losing most of the games. (I just suck at PvP) Just renewed the team two times.
Also, I have the shadowcloth set, so four of my items will be maxed out soon, with almost no effort. No need to raid, nothing.
Edit: PS. I am a raiding shadow priest so crit doesn't mean much to me.

It doesn't matter how many games you've played in a week so long as you've done your required 10 games.
You've played 10 games for your 2vs2 team and ended up with a rating of 1520 you get around 230 points. You played 40 games and you end up with a 1520 rating you get around 230 points. You play 500(!) in a week and you actually finish with a 1490 rating. You actually earn LESS points than you would have with the first ten games you've played (with the 1520 rating).
That means you must know when to stop. My team and I straddled the 1900 rating for 3vs3 only to drop down back to 1790 after a string of bad battles (and a couple server mess ups, one of them costing us 41 points <_<). Knowing when to stop is almost as important as winning.

With the 2.3 patch (or the start of season 3 if it doesn't come out at the same time which it may not) this staff will no longer cost arena points, as well as all the rest of the S1 gear.
Instead of arena points it will now cost 27000 honor and 40 AV marks.
WOOT more welfare epix!
评论来自

with 2.3 the staff as said above will cost 27k honor where the 1h spell blade will cost 25k and i believe (dont hold me to this) the off hand will cost 8k honor, so the spell blade offhand combo will cost 33k honor and the 2h staff will cost 27k, so a 6k honor difference. personally i rather go for the 2h just because of cost, i know its not alot but 6k towards another epic is a better start than 0

This staff is better than the one hander and off hand when it comes to balance druids. Balance druids grab a good amount of SP from intellect if they spec into it. And imo every balance druid should. Since this is a pvp staff balance druids are one of the biggest burst damage classes in the game. Alot of people dont like to see big stinky birds but 4k starfire to the face really does hurt. What balance druids really need are two handed staffs becuase they are much more "stat dependent" than a shadow priest or a warlock who just go straight for the spell damage (ie spell blade + book ). If you are a balance druid I highly suggest this staff more than the spell blade book. You will get roughly around 215sp with this staff. Throw a 40 spell damage on it and its 255.
Hopefully this helped a confused moonkin on their choice.
btw patch on tuesday Nov/27/07 gladiator staff will be obtained from honor points so if you have a spare 30k honor points go pick one up asap.! DOOO IT!

Hey, I am a very confused mage, I have been switching back and forth between arcane and fire, and I was wondering if I should go for gear first or this staff, please check Mustreach of Silver Hand out at the armory and give me some feedback, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for spending a minute of your life reading my post btw =D
P.S: It took me a week of an hour or two a day of PvP to save up about 10k honor, and I have about 14k atm, so realize how long it will take for different crap =/

This staff is awesome.
If you
1. arent geared with Raid drops
2. Dont have arena Points
Then farm this staff (27K honor 40 AV medals)
Its better then Any BoE Mage weapons, Dungeoun/Heroic drops, or Blacksmith Mage weapons. It should be the Weapon any mage Starts raiding with

I am a shadow priest and as far as stats and hit rating go - am thinking this is best for heading towards endraiding.. The only one similar with the hit rating and stats is the Staff of Infinite Mysteries from Kara. I personally thing the odds of working pvp better than the drop of that staff in Kara.
The other option I thought was the Spell blade or Mace and Orb of the Soul eater but you are still down on hit rating and other stats as Orb only has shadow damage 51 and stamina +18.
War Staff:
+35 Int +48 Stam
Resilience 25
Spell crit 36
Spell Hit 21
Dmg and Healing 199
Spell Blade
+20 Int +30 Stam
Resilience 18
Dmg and Heal 247
Orb of Soul eater
+18 Stam
Shadow dmg and effect increased by 51
Looking at these in terms of end raiding does the Staff still comes out on top given the overall stats? Whilst orb gives nice shadow damage, the staff gives better overall damage increase and overall stats bonuses than the blade/mace and orb combined. Is that right or am i totally wrong? The only blade that gives a hit rating is from arena.. and i have pvp points not arena pts os thinking of going the staff...
What do other SP's think or have or are going for?

for a shadow priest get dagger and end game since you dont need crits. same goes for demo or aff locks
the staff is mostly for balance druids / fire mages and desto lcoks my destruction lock has is for crit and 40 spell damage on it works great!
