Just a guess as I have not played TBC yet, but from everything I read Jewlcrafters will be able to pull gems from raw ore.
My wife will be starting a new BE Mage w/ Enchanting & Jewlcrafting, and I will be starting a BE Pally w/ Smithing & Minning. Either way we will needs lots of Ore.
I have been mining bags and bags of the stuff with some of my higher alts so that we can easily level up our trade skills on launch day.
(This can also be useful if you want to make money in the AH as lots of other people will be starting Alts and want to level up their own trade skills)

For horde best place to farm this stuff is by during circets near and around UC... from the shore line down the left mountain range, past undead starting zone, to across front of uc, then up mountain range up to scarlet monestary, rinse and repeat :D
Also the barens is a great place jsut complete circits of the mountains in the barens for this ore, and tin as well

Alliance copper grinding = Dun Morogh, for sure. Go to the quarry! Do a circle in the quarry itself, then in the trogg cave. If you find a gap in the spawns there, then step out of the quarry and do a little circuit outside.

For those people with mounts the best place to farm is definately Mulgore, just run right around the edge, going into every cave you find. In one lap round mulgore I had gathered 246 copper ore, more than double than any where else I have tried

The shore of Darkshore is also quite a good spot for copper nodes.

I do all of my copper mining in Elwynn Forest at night. I get three stacks in an hour. I'm sure it isn't the most advantageous, but Elwynn is nice and quiet at night. I've only recently run into "competition," and such is easily resolved when you agree to circle Elwynn from the opposite direction (starting at the entrance to the Valley of the Kings).

I started a blood elf rogue after buying the expansion a few days ago, and set him up with mining and jewelcrafting. While running around Eversong Woods doing quests, I've come across over 56 veins, and have accumulated over 8 stacks of Copper Ore. Once or twice I've gone off the road and stood in an area that had two or three veins, and they regenerate fast! Every 5m or so. Great place to farm.

The best place to get this is Durotar. You don't even need to go to a specific place, just walk around near the mountains, hills and rocks, they're all over the place.
It may sound like a difficult thing to do for an alliance but it's not as bad as you'd think. It's a lowbie area mainly and you won't bump into hordes you can't handle just like that. Even if you bump into a lowbie, it doesn't mean he's going to spam the Local Defense channel :)

The trogg cave in dun morogh (forgot what it's called, a whole in the earth ><)
If you circle around the place, there'll be atleast...10 copper veins...And they respawn fast :D Even if you think the timer is too slow, just enter the cave, then there's 10 more...Then you can go out again, take the 10 which respawned, repeat, sell copper at AH and become rich :D
I did this on a friends character :P (30 mage) he had money for his mount before level 31 :D

it literally means that you need a forge to smelt the copper and stuff...it usually looks like a little pit full of lava...there are forges in every city, near the mining or blacksmithing/engineering trainers...when your mouse is over it, you should see "Forge"...get close and you can smelt your ores...hope that helps a little

THE best place I think to mine Copper is Venture Co Mine in Mulgore, south sast of Thunder Bluff (entrance is at 60, 49). It has level 8-10 mobs and a lot of veins spawn like hell. Be sure to also go to the top and exit the mine: there's a little camp with two or three veins too. If you develop a standard route through the mine you can get a constant stream of copper ore because of veins respawning. Hmmm, nice.

Probably the easiest way for a low level to make large amounts of gold.
Seriously, if you're selling this for less than 1.5g a stack, you're being ripped off.

THE SINGLE BEST PLACE TO LEVEL UP YOUR BEGINNING MINING SKILL is the Gol'Bolar (excuse me if I spelled that incorrectly) Quarry in Dun Morogh. At level 51 and thus fighting almost no mobs, I ran this thing nonstop until I'd collected 124 copper ores. Just do a circle around the place, then do a circle inside the dug out part, then run through the cave. Repeat, repeat, repeat. The respawn time of the deposits is quick enough that if you do the right rotation you will NEVER have to wait, even if you're not fighting a single thing.

just run around outside, then go in the caves, i got a few silver veins that spawned for me, about 120 copper and 50 tin
in the course of about 45 mins

If you're Horde, level 12+ and need to farm copper, the place to go is the Venture Co. Mine north of Bloodhoof Village in Mulgore. Past level 15 the mobs will not bother you much and past level 18 or so not at all unless you run right over them. There are at least twenty nodes in the mine and they respawn fairly quickly, though it seems to me that if you farm the place for too long they start to slow down -- then you go make the circuit of northern Mulgore and come back. There's even a forge out by the entrance for your smelting convenience!

my route:
1) start at northshire abbey wall, go towards stormwind at mountain site, you should get 1-3 veins here.
2) then from stormwind to westbrook garrison, to the river that seperates elwynn from westfall, follow the road back towards goldshire, 3-9 veins here.
3) then don't go to goldshire but follow the rock hills stretching over a far land north of fargodeep mine, go to the most southern point of the hills, then head to fargodeep mine, clear the mine, go a littlebit south for a vein, then head back to the southern point of the hills to you north, continue going east then, allong the hills... you get easy 7-13 veins here.
4) then to to the hills at jerod's landing, then return following the hills east,if your on the right path you should heading to tower of azora now, 3-6 veins from this part.
5)go and follow the river from the bridge where guard thomas is to the little island in the midlle of the lake, run at the edges of this land, then when you walked 280° of the island you should go west, towards jangolode mine, when out of jangolode mine, go against the mountains around the lake to eastervale loging camp, sell some junk here to get some space back. 8-14 veins here.
6)go to the tower south of easternvale loging camp and head to the river mound where the murlocs are, around 3-5 veins on this route.
7)take the hill path back to jerods landing, then again to fargodeepmine...back to westfall garrison (just the opposite way you came)
there are a fieuw more nods, like west of tower of azora where some wolfs are, you can find 2 veins around there if your lucky :)
i hope i could help you with this, i run this route once a day, takes about 1 hour (lvl 26 :) no mount so...) and last time i got 10 stacks of copper ore and sold then all for 2.5g / stack + 7 stacks of rough stone, sold for 1g each, now, thats a good amount of money for a lvl 26 :)

If you want a lot of copper and you're on the horde, go the Eversong Woods. There is a TON of copper there all around the map. I have gatherer, and when I counted up how many nodes there were, there were over 40.

Great map about 14-17 messages above this comment added by blaklablfrk..
I ran around Elwynn Forest following that map I did it 2 1/2 times before I ran back to Stormwind with
-265 Copper Ore
-160 Rough Stone
-And 1-75 Mining Skill ( could have gone higher if I would have trained Journeyman mining)
Really helpful thanks blaklablfrk!

Mulgore is not even close to the best place, the deposits in the Venture Co. Mine are fairly fast at respawning but if you plan on going around the edges of mulgore prepare to be aggravated because a lot of the deposits are hard to get to and some of them you can't reach at all.

Durotar is teeming with copper veins, if you wander around. Any toon above lvl 20 that is just leveling their skill should have no problem passing most mobs (save for the ones linked to the veins). Either way, Durotar is an easy place as it stands.
I farmed 148 ore in 2 hours with my 42 warrior. EASY.

My favourite for copper is, hands down, Durotar, just outside Orgrimmar. The best way I've found is to have my 66 warrior and epic mount just run around in circles for an hour...300 ore easy doing it that way. Grab the ore with your higher lvl and mail it to the lowbie alt. Remember smelting will level your mining skill as well, so your lowbie doesn't actually need to find the veins.
Of course, not everyone has a high level toon they can do this with, but Durotar is still the best place. The mobs are level 8-12, so anyone over that lvl can sail through pretty much unmolested, or you've got enough running space if something does decide you look tasty, and the spawn rate on those veins is crazy good.
My route generally takes me left out of Orgrimmar and all the way along to the Skull Cave by the beach. There are usually 2-5 veins in/around the cave. Then head south along the beach for another 1-3 veins, then just follow the rocky cliff walls west and south, picking up another 2-6 veins, until you find the other cave full of orcs and grab the 1-3 veins in there. Hop into harpy canyon for another 3-8 veins, and back out. The spawn rate is good enough that you could easily just keep circling that route...and that's just the eastern side right outside of Org. Cross the road and repeat more or less the same pattern there, then back across the road, etc...
Doing this my lvl 12 hunter's Smelt Copper went grey...without her ever even seeing a copper vein. Hope that helps.

3 areas i know for mining this stuff. simple, and ridiculously profitable.
Area 1
Elwynn forest. Easiest Copper circuit in the game. Start at SW gates head south-west along the ridge towards westfall. A few nodes along the way, once you hit the river bordering westfall head south east towards the south mine. Hit up the mine and stick to the little cliff age north of it and head to the landing (few defias but not too much of a problem). Then head north again keeping to the roads ridge until you get towards Redridge. At the redridge road head north and follow the cliff and dealing with any gnolls that bother you, and possibly venturing to the island in the middle of the lake. Head along the Cliff towards thenorth mine and run around in there. Exit and make your way south towards the Tower of Azora. Coupleof nodes here by the wolf dens. Then, head west towards the murloc infested lake and theres 1 or 2 nodes that spawn underwater. Once done, head north again and then head west along the final stretch ofcliff back to SW gates. On a good run you can easily have 3-4 stacks of ore and a few stacks of rough stone. and even at level 10 this should only take about 20 minutes. as a level 70 i can get 5 stacks in 20 minutes without even trying.
Area 2
Dun morogh. not run this circuit myself that often but its fairly simple. Dun Morogh is basicly surrounded by mountain ranges. just stick to the outskirts of the map and on occasion head towards the mines/caves in the area.
Area 3
Only horde friendly area i can suggest is Durotar. The valley with the Thunder Lizards is abundant in this stuff. Run around the top a few times then head inside and then back up to the top and keep doing that. The mobs aren't that difficult and easily go down and is also a greatplace to skin. 2 gathers in one. Easy gold ^.^
Now copper prices on AH change drasticly all the time, depends on day, time and server (like most things). because copper is easily obtainable prices are low at weekends when more people areonline, so best to post on a tuesday or just after server restarts. Prices do vary between 1g a stack and 3g a stack.
Also, for the higher level miners who can mine up to mithril a nicegrind spot is 1k needles. follow the cliff edges and weave in and out of the rock pillars, hit the 2 caves (centaurs and harpies) and the Wrymm nesting grounds and within an hour or so you have a nice collection of all ores from copper to mithril (on odd occasion i have found truesilver). Gold and Regular Silver nodes are also popular here. Don't venture into Shimmering flats though. node spawns are extremelylowfrom expierience. But tin, copper, iron are high here, mithril being in the low-mid region at the wrymm nests and gold and silver in the low region. truesilver is there but its definately in the rare section of spawns.
If anyone has anything to add, please let me know. Hope this helps :)

In Mulgore, the earth elementals can be mined for copper.. it doesn't provide skill points but its easy ore. just keep killing, looting, then mining them.. same with the elementals outside Org that are fighting the water elementals.. kill, loot, mine.. again.. NO skill points but you get a copper ore each time.. easy kills, easy mining.. by the time you kill a few, they'll respawn. Spent about 5 minutes doing this in each spot (on diff toons) and had about 50 ore in no time..

I've found Elwynn Forest to be great for copper. Circle around all ridgelines and mountains. You can avoid most encounters that way and if no one else is mining come away with 80 ore. Little to no problem and Goldshire has both forge and trainer.
