Pretty incredible offhand, even with weapon skill nerfs.
I agree, this if just about the best offhand a Sword rogue with points in Combat potency (thats me :P) could ask for, the super fast speed will result in fairly constant energy gain (roughly 15 energy every 5 sec with S'n'D running) as well as frequent poison procs.
TBH for raiding I think I'd use this over the Exalted HH Reward Sword despite its slightly lower dps (nothing to do with it looking awesome, honest :P)
Aeon needs to stop dropping those dang mail bracers every single run, and drop this sword for me. And it's from normal mode, not heroic.
Got it on my first black moras run :D Pretty excited and thankful! :D
Same model as Blinkstrike
Not labeled as unique, so you could dual wield two of them if you wanted.
If you have 2 fast weapons, one in the MH and one in the OH, (either both Latro's or a combo like Retainer's Blade (dagger) and Latro's) you should consider doing a shiv build (20/41/0). Make sure you have Imp Poisons 5/5, vile poisons is worthless since Shiv has 100% chance to apply. And with Combat Potency always being procc'd by Shiv, energy abundance shoots up.
With a fast OH like Latro's, your energy cost for Shiv is 34. With a build including Combat Potency and Vile poisons, you can effectively take sinister strike off your toolbar. The reason you have a fast MH weapon as well is because it will depend entirely on white dmg and proccing your poison and sword spec. (2 Latro's ftw)
It also beats out SS in combat point generation. Now the shiv build doesn't wtfpwn SS but if you like pressing more buttons it will be a more fun build for just that extra damage.
Well guys u will be rolling against us pure fury dual wield spec warriors as this is a highly desirable sword along with the one from Botanica...
The inc in sword skill, the attack power and the agility all make it a very nice sword combined with our flurry ability
Yeah this sword looks cool. Got one last night when a hunter rolled a 90 and I rolled a 92. Now I just need a good MH. :D
I did 32 runs for this, and in the end it's worth it. I may use it for a very long time.
The speed on it is for a sword just amazing, more poison procs, and a higher change for sword specialization and combat potency procs. That and the higher dps on it make it a huge upgrade over Iblis (
) for me.
Good thing is it's a fast instance. With a good party you can do quite a few runs on a evening.
Best offhand for a rogue at 70 with combat potency. This is a combat swords weapon btw. Drops from Black morass.
Well I think its nice for Warriors too because they get rage when they hit and this is really fast sword, but still I would prefer another weapon because this far more greater for Rogues than for Warriors and those buffs isn't so great for Warrior.
Does anybody has an idea, who the Latro was?
Hunters, leave this one alone, it's for rogues first, and warriors second. If neither needs or wants, by all means take it, get it enchanted with +15 Agility, and be happy in the knowledge that you've utterly blown your gold on making some "hawt" looking blades glow green; the Large Prismatic you'd get from DEing this is worth more to you than +14 sword skill ever could be.
I've seen 2 hunters in Tier 4 dual wielding Latro's, one of whom had both enchanted with Mongoose (no, seriously). It's depressing to witness raiders so clueless, but it still made me laugh. Hard.
Play smart. If you want to dual wield something, get farming for two of these
, they are your babies and have "Hunter Item" written all over them. Even *Heroic* Mech is less of a headache than running Normal SL for the Sonic Spear, and you get badges while doing it.
I found this on the Rogue forums. Reposted here.
1% hit = 15.77 hit rating @ 70
25.5% = (25.5 * 15.77) = 402.135 = chance to miss on a boss
402.135 is the number you should start from whenever calculating your miss rate
Talents to increase hit:
Precision: 5% hit = (5 * 15.77) = 78.85 hit rating
Weapon Expertise: 1% hit = 15.77 hit rating
Weapon Skill also affects hit:
1 weapon skill = .1% hit
3.9 weapon skill rating = 1 weapon skill
1 weapon skill = 1.577 hit rating
1 weapon skill rating = .404 hit rating
Using these numbers you can create the following equation:
hit needed to never miss = ceiling
Ceiling means to round the answer up.
Where your weapon_skill_rating is from items. Humans add 19.5 to this if using an applicable weapon.
Assuming your hit_rating is < 308.
If your hit_rating is >= 308 your chance to miss is 0%.
Using Latro's as an example:
307.515 - (14*.404) = 301.859
Therefore using Latro's with WEx and Precision you need 302 hit rating to never miss.
Using Fang of Vashj as an example:
307.515 - (21*.404) = 299.031
Therefore using Fang of Vashj with WEx and Precision you need 300 hit rating to never miss.
Due to numerous factors including hit rating being itemized cheaper than crit rating, combat potency, and many other proc related things hit rating is the best bang for your buck stat to itemize in the game currently for a deep combat PvE rogue. However, you should never sacrifice overall DPS for a gain in hit. One of the best way to stack your hit rating is by socketing gear with Glinting Noble Topaz.
Note: 1 weapon skill = 3.9 weapon skill rating
The current iteration of weapon skill is postulated to give the following.
.1% hit = 1.577 hit rating
.04% crit = .884 crit rating
And on a boss grants an additional
.1% crit = 2.21 crit rating
For a total of:
.1% hit = 1.577 hit rating
.14% crit = 3.094 crit rating
What this means is that Weapon Expertise which grants 10 weapon skill equates to:
1% hit = 15.77 hit rating
.4% crit = 8.84 crit rating
And on a boss grants an additional
1% crit = 22.1 crit rating
For a total of:
1% hit = 15.77 hit rating
1.4% crit = 30.94 crit rating
This essentially means that Weapon Expertise is a core PvE raiding talent and should be picked up in any serious raiding spec.
This increase to crit on bosses has been assumed to make the item excell in PvE but not vastly surpass a similar item in PvP. The reasoning behind this is that 10 Weapon Skill gives 46.71 total rating (combined hit and crit) on a boss and 24.61 total rating on even level targets. 10 weapon skill is equal to 39 weapon skill rating. What this means is that you are getting more than the itemized 39 rating value on a boss, but you are very lacking on getting that value against another player in PvP. In fact that rating is nearly twice as effective on a boss.
The real reason though for a rogue to get this is that, PvE wise, there are no better OH swords until Blade of Savagery (
) which drops from the Black Temple.
The closest thing to a proper replacement for Latro's is is the Arena OH, which is slightly slower with 1.5 attack speed.
This is an awesome looking sword, and it looks absolutely monstrous on a Blood Elf; I couldn't imagine what it would look like on a Gnome. =O
been farming BM for 2 days straight (a total of ~8-9 times straight). what's the probability after like 8 times that it still WON'T drop? i know there's no real "absolute" number on this, since it is a probability, but man, you'd think it'd drop by then -_-;;
i just want to DW my spiteblade with latro's :'( that too much for a rogue to ask?
I'm actually using this as a paladin tank.
Before you rogues and warriors scream ninja, the group was a 2h fury dps warrior (with Deep Thunder), 1 ele shaman, 1 resto shaman, and a frost mage. Seeing as how the warrior and I are good friends, and he is pure 2h, he didn't need.
The sweet speed = full use of Reckoning, the +agil = dodge/armor, the sword skill is nice for +hit. The AP is a next-to-useless enhancement (since we do very little white damage, its all about the spell).
I'll toss some retarded enchant on it till i put +40 spelldamage on my Crystalforged Sword. Until then, I enjoyed using this in my SH run right after BM (9.21.07)
This item simply refuses to drop for me as a rogue.
hold out for it brother it will drop. took me a ton of runs as well, but its all worth it in the end, you can use it effectively for a long time
Mongoose on a 1.4 sword? Nonsense...
This sword is a must for any sword rogue. The off-hand season 2 gladiator sword is only a few dps (and by few I actually mean single digits) more than this. You'll definitely be using this for a long time. I suggest getting this and putting a mongoose on it, then start saving arena points for your season 2 main-hand. Unless you get a Talon of Azshara or something before that time, there's no reason to buy the off-hand before the main-hand. You're essentially giving up 1125 arena points for 9 dps when you could give up 2625 for 70.
"And with Combat Potency always being procc'd by Shiv" This is wrong. If you read what 5/5 Combat Potency does, it says "Sucessful off hand melee attacks have a 20% chance to generate 15 energy" So either if you use S.S. or Shiv, the chance for C.P. is the same. (Other then with that fact that with latro's in your OH your shivs cost 6 less energy then S.S, which means you COULD to more attacks with the extra energy saved.)
This weapon is possibly a reference to "Latro Abiectus" card on Warcraft TCG.
While I must agree this is essentially a rogues offhand, it would do the job as a decent Tanking MH. Got this on my First BM run for Kara Key & have used it ever since.
While it might lack the Stam & Def normally associated with Tanking MH's,
It has very fast weapon speed, some Agi & most importantly expertise rating (as of 2.3) which lowers Mob's chance to dodge or parry your attacks.
I use this over
due to the slightly higher DPS & Speed while not to mention the expertise rating.
Still Hoping for my
The Sun Eater
. Might go for
as an alternative
This item seems to be part of a new Item Set in the upcoming Patch 2.4
- 2 pieces: Increases attack power by 30.
The second Setpiece is unknown at this point.
Latro's Dancing Blade
is the other part of the set..
The set is named
and the bonus for both pieces is
I wonder how Latro had the heart to go into Magisters Terrace without both his swords. Lord knows that set bonus would have saved him alot of trouble.
Latro might actually be a night elf rogue found in the TCG, Latro Abiectus. In his picture he is seen dual wielding maces though which brings up questions
Ah nice. Its a set peace now, My hunter got this in a BM run. Guess i should get the second one now ^_^
I just wish they could have made them a bit...smaller, they look more like a tank's weapon than the weapons of a master of stealth and assassination =\
Would be nice to have a instance drop with the skin of
I got this nice looking sword first time I was in Black Morass with my warlock. nobody needed on it, so I won it on greed and I'll keep it for the nice look. Think I'll run through deadmines meleeing just for getting more skills xD
I'm a Sword rogue with 360 swords and a blinkstrike. Not to mention +184 to hit (11.67% to a lvl 70). This sword would give me 374 swords. That's slighty over 1 second attack speed, say in the 1.02-1.03 speed range with slice and dice on. combat potency 5/5 gives me 20% chance on and offhand hit to regenerate 15 energy. This sword is simply awsome, good damage dagger fast energy regenerating fun. If you have any awsome slower 1 handed sword in youre main hand you should be handing out massive damage. like i said I use blinkstrike and with this type of spec I'm doing massive dps with it. This is one insane sword!

Looks link a Blinkstrike.
Yeha really nice... the new Bone Slicing Hatchet for &*!@#$%s, oh wait rap nerf >.<
I went to Black Morass for my 10th time and got Shoulders from first boss, Trinket from second and Gloves + This sword from last boss.. Lucky me :D
This sword is clealy one of the best blue off-hands for rogues so far!
Edited, Mar 6th 2007 4:35am by Expli
This is a cursed blade....
Got exalted,no sword.
On my last run before I got exalted, luckily trinket drops, won it from shaman and prot warri....so why can't the sword drop after those 30+ runs?it's cursed I tell you,CURSED....*drool**drool*
got this sword tonight sweet off hand for my rogue
I saw a rogue with this sword and Blinkstrike, Nasty combo.
Last night I got my second sword!
The first dropped on my first run and last night the second came :D Now using 2 of these. Real nice!
Level 70 Dwarf Hunter
Skinner and Leatherworker
it isnt a 10% dr its a freaking 5% and it never drops gg blizz kill me some more on the offhands
The set is both really cool looking and provides a decent set bonus. If you don't raid or don't want to farm gladiator gear, this is a must for Rogues. Fury Wars and hunters would do nicely too.
I keep em both in the bank for messing around, grinding and heroics. fun little set!
That's one badass sword
quite nice in combination with the Aldor sword (Vindicators Brand) or Edge of Cosmos!
Ps: got it today ;)
Need 15k rep more till Exalted made all the rep in BM except 1 Old Hillsbrad and there isn't nor trinket, nor sword.Making this only for the sword and i can't even see him drop.Except that this stupid instance can't be pugged just like normal.U have to do a guild run or u have to find imba pug.FFS blizzard are just feckin with us.
Sexy off hander
ohh so fast...
and it looks good too.

clearly rogue item :p
Two runs in under two hours and I got two of these. Was a good day for me as i got my karazhan key too :P
There isn't a picture here, but this has gotta be one of the coolest looking swords in the game.
if you're a sword rogue
with combat potency
this is the best offhand --ingame-- for you, because not everyone can have blazefury and this thing beats gladiators offhand and kings defender :)
worth a mongoose enchant...
gnomes are a waste of gear
... thats a combat potency goldmine. this is as good as it gets for me at least.
got it on first run even :D
The drop rate is gimped, no question about it. That said I've seen this sword drop 3 times now. The first time, I gave it to my tank friend cause he thought it would be fun to use, the second I gave it to another rogue, the third, I took it for myself. It is a gimped drop rate, but if you run the instance enough, and you have a group thats run it alot with you, the instance is only about 40-45 mins, very easy. I'm currently specced fist, so I don't use it much, waiting to get a good mate for it, and will spec back to swords I think, but only time will tell.
man i am dumb. I seen this sword drop 3 times:
1st time i let the Pally in the group have it because i got the rest of the tak=ning stuff that dropped in there i.e. the cape, bow shoulders ect.
2nd time i let the rogue have it since evn i had better daggers then he did, and i'm a Warrior!
3rd time i finally felt like i might get it, i saw the rogue in the group's gear and i knew he was after it...
I shoulda took it from that Pally...QQ
NOT A TANK WEAPON
IT GOES LIKE THIS
Roll " NEED" if you need it, otherwise roll GREED.
Unless there is an enchanter - and you all agree before you go in to all PASS, and then decide what to do.
Im a Hunter and a Rogue - both level 70. and i would roll GREED for my hunter and NEED for my Rogue.
So please stop with the HUNTER CRAP and get on with playing the game. Build that bridge and get over it.
For a rogue, with Combat Potency and 250 or more to hit, this is equivalent to a 91 dps weapon. Download the spreadsheet from ElitistJerks, plug it in and see.
Well i say ROGUE WEAPON and thats all.
Anyone know who Latro is?
So on my 20th BM run this finally dropped,(im combat swords) and the hunter rolls need and gets it... he also had shoulders of assassination and handgrips of assassination
dont feel bad. I actually hit exalted and this dropped for me for the first time on my final normal BM run.
Then I went outside and purchased the Riftmaker.
is it just me or on the PTR is the sword skill removed?
im a fury warrior, when i hear stories about hunters i giggle and think about all the chain armor ive taken from unhappy hunters.
As a 70 hunter i would like to have this weapon. but i would never take this over a rogue or warrior. but since my guild doesn't have a high level rogue and our warrior isn't the best. i'll probably have this soon. and surprise 3 out of the 5 70's in my guild are hunters. and it really is sad that people don't know how to play their class. one of them is pretty much geared up like a shammy. /cry but then again with guild members like that maybe i will never get this sword
Changed to set item.
Latro's Dancing Blade
Other set-sword drops from magisters terrance.
After 5 toons leveled to 70 and all of them at least revered with Keepers of Time, I have NEVER seen this sword drop. Very odd.
