Does the "Requires Master Hammersmith" actually require you to be a master hammersmith to wield this weapon? If so, things seem to be tough when it comes to picking a profession.
In the expansion pack, blacksmiths who take a specialization will be able to craft items (such as this) that only they can use. These items will be upgradable as well. If you look at the "Created By" tab, you'll see that this weapon came from a lesser one, smelted with a few other things.
Just clarifying here: yes, you need to be a Master Hammersmith to use this weapon. If you respecced after creating it you would be unable to use it.
Even though its missing any int or +dmg stats on it i think, depending on the proc rate of the mace this would be a good retri paladin weapon, wouldnt have to use or wait for the cooldown of hammer of justice to get a large crit with JoC
Fairly important for this and other epic BOP weapons that are a product of choosing Blacksmithing as a profession - If you chose any specialization other than the one you want, don't worry as TBC will allow you to choose it again without significant loss of time or funds. i.e., if you chose Axesmith to get your Arcanite Reaper you will be able to respecialize to Hammersmith, Swordsmith or Armorsmith.
Just to clarify the "upgrade" thing. This is the top end upgrade at the moment. Don't know if this is going to be upgraded any further.
To see it as tiers:
1. Thunder (
2. Deep Thunder (
3. Stormherald (
This is quite possibly the best Mortal Strike weapon (currently) available for Warriors. With an incredibly high maximum damage, excellent stats, and a stunning proc (pun intended), this weapon will make mincemeat of most people in the hands of a decent Warrior.
Well honestly I would go 30 points into fury to get flurry to get the speed bonus and 31 into arms for MS but i would have a pvp build 27/31/3 for using this mace
Your characters level determines the cost of the respec, not how many times you've done it before. Scroll down to the specialization section in the link below for respec info.
Changing your specialisation will cause you to lose all associated recipes though, but i think the costs are acceptable if you only have to do it once after you find out you've picked the wrong specialisation. If Blizzard had not done this people would just use different combinations such as:
epic 2h mace for pvp, 1h sword for tanking and another 1h or 2h axe for dps.
Though i'd like the idea of having all those epic smithables and switching your specialisation every time you wanted to pvp, do raids or do dps,
i think it would be just a little bit too imba for blacksmithers ;-)
Just to compare to Bloodmoon:
to Stormherald for a ret pally;
Bloodmoon = 52 crit rating = 2.47% crit chance
Stormherald = 39 agility = 1.95% crit chance, 2.15 with Kings
Bloodmoon = 106 AP
Stormherald = 39 STR = at least 78 AP, more if you have points in Divine Strength as PvP, and if you are a sustained DPS build you will probably use Kings + Divine Strength, 20% increase = 93 AP
Bloodmoon = 0 Stam
Stormherald = 57 Stam = 570 HP, 627 with Kings
Higher max dmg on SH, combined with a slower attack makes this the clear choice for me as either a PVP ret paladin or even more so as a DPS pally in an instance. Using a 5-15-41 build I can put out DPS, Kings buff, and act as an excellent offtank in a group. I don't have Stormherald (or even Deep Thunder! lol), but Thunder works great for me to offtank with.
My question is about the stun proc. Does anyone have this to see if it procs more than Deep Thunder? from what I've read about the second stage, the proc rate is very low. Does it go up as Stormherald? that would be nice :)
most powerfull mace,yet another great weapon you can make,not buy from AH like other trash.acctually cheaper to make then lionhear executioneer.
Raiding guilds say the vortexes drop like candy now after the patch. I heard of 5-6 vortexes dropping when clearing trash to Morogrim, so I guess we'll see more of these maces around soon.
"My question is about the stun proc. Does anyone have this to see if it procs more than Deep Thunder? from what I've read about the second stage, the proc rate is very low. Does it go up as Stormherald? that would be nice :)"
If you click on the stun proc, it shares the same effect with Deep Thunder. So no, it does not.
well for a paladin, which most probably going for tanking, which specialization will benefit more? mace or sword?
Noktyn from TeamPandemic (former arena team Power Trip)
currently uses this weapon.
Definately obtainable, and seemingly he left his Mooncleaver for this.
Mine hits hard =) got a 3k Mortal strike non-enraged on a 0 Resillience 70 Gnome Mage.
sometimes, i favor the lunar crescent. t he critical strike is good too. a high geared warrior will have at least 33% critical chance and with axe spec and the drive to put smooth dawnstones in every socket, u can bring your critical strike up to 40%. many crits come more handy. it's gonna be a sacrifice for warriors to choose thunder or lunar crescent. but for pallies, they should go straight to thunder. warriors should also consider the axe spec too. plus u work in a team oriented group where you have to dish out the most damage possible.
Would mongoose or savagery be better for this weapon, assuming money is not an issue? From both pvp and pve perspectives i mean, because while this is an amazing pvp mace of course, i still like to raid. Been thinking that mongoose would be better on this 2h than any other because of it's extremely slow speed, considering mortal strike and whirlwind would also kick it off, but still not sure if it would be better than savagery. Comments?
This item will be recieving a nerf in patch 2.3.
This is one of the most sickest maces ive seen especially with the nice top end dmg, I'd love to see it one hit a mage with WF O.o
The expectation to get 5 Nether Vortex's? This is out of reach of non raiding casuals. Which makes no sense, as its craftable, they should allow some other way of crafting this weapon thats within reach of solo work over a period of time. The aspect i enjoy most is crafting in the game, and its just not right that the best of the best items are only for the people who can dedicate the most time to the game. I would love to see this weapon, not in an instant, but working for it overtime to earn the Vortex's some other way, not through raiding or grouping.
Total Materials Required for
, and Stormherald are:
Hardened Adamantite Bar
, along with the other 2 blacksmith maces, off
every warrior skill
Specially intresting is hamstring proc since with pvp gear the rage gets reduced, allowing in many cases the warrior to spam it in an arena encounter.
I been doing some research and a short piece to paste up here is this:
10/14 14:26:58.578 Your Hamstring crits Servant of Allistarj for 120.
10/14 14:26:58.578 Servant of Allistarj suffers 113 Physical damage from your Deep Wound.
10/14 14:26:58.593 Servant of Allistarj is afflicted by Stun.
Here is a link to a warrior who has this weapon, you can see his dps. His gear is also incredible.
Would u reccommend this mace over Bloodmoon for an enhancement pvp shammy? which is better? cuze if im gonna stay enhance for pvp, i need to know which is better so i can switch my proffession. :)
with how slow this baby is i'm very suprised that more ms warriors aren't wielding this. especially with the stun effect. is there a reason it is looked at more of a shammy wep?
For people who want to know, the nether Vortexes are found by killing mobs (including trash) in 25 man raids ( SSC, TK Etc).
If you're a PvP warrior and don't raid then don't fret just yet. A friend of mine payed a guild to run him the attunement of SSC (H SP if i recall correctly), then payed the guild to include him in their SSC raid, doesn't take long before you get 5 Vortex as they have a fairly good drop rate.
On patch 2.4 nether vortexes can be bought with badges ( 15 badges and 6g) and they are no longer bop. This means almost everyone can get their Stormherald without entering to ssc/the eye. Total cost for updating your Deep thunder to Stormherald after 2.4 comes live:
75 Badge of Justice
What do you think? Stormherald or Blade of Harbingers for an Arms Warrior?
This does not effectively represent how to get it. The mats can be free, the whole process of getting all three stages can be techincally free, barring the costs of training if you decide to do everything. And since now vortexes can be purchased, they no longer cost a leg and an arm to get.
Anyone some data on the proc rate of Stormherald compared to Deep Thunder? I've heard that DT's procrate is about 2%, just wondering if Stormherald approaches 5% or something.
Even if you bought everything off the AH, this is terribly off the mark. Wowhead clearly states that Primal Nethers average 100g and Nether Vortexes average 250g EACH. This would mean that to upgrade to the T2 version, it would cost 800g in Nethers alone, and to upgrade to T3, just the Vortexes would cost 1250g. All Wowhead prices, of course. I suggest next time looking at the "buyout price" and not the "sells for". "Sells for" is how much you can sell it to a vendor.

does anyone know the proc chance for the stun?
If they would juse take the "Requires master Hammersmith" requirement off, i could have dropped blacksmithing a long time ago for something useful :(
i dont know, but for some people it might be easier to get the gold and use it to buy the mats than getting the mats themselves :P especially with the new daily quests from 2.4 people make much more gold
but ye tho i think its impressively expensive :o
After my Paladin turned 70 yesterday I started farming the auctionhouse for materials for this baby today. Spent about 4000~ gold but it was well worth it, and that is an understatement.
arms warriors,Retri pallys and ench. shamans.. Go for it ;)
Druids , do not even think blacksmithing..
Wow that screenshot made me lol. Stunherald =)
This stun does not work for druids in forms, neither does a lot of weapon effects.
Since Titan Grip was confirmed for Fury Warriors at the WWI class panel, I'm toying with the idea of dual-wielding this and Deep Thunder. :)
Talk about a lot of stats!
thats in the expansion silly pants
HOLY !@#$ I AM DEFINITELY BECOMING A BLACKSMITH
... Druids? Anyone? I mean, look at it. Yeah, stun chance, I'll go cry. Then, I'll go into cat form, and rape faces with it. Honestly, I'm an Arms Warrior. As most people that have the option know, Mace Spec, regardless of class, isn't that great. It's not exactly a HUGE chance, and it's a brief stun, with no control. Granted, this has a chance on hit to stun, also, but that can be resisted. MY debate is wether or no chance for 100 Str and 5% chance of free attack is better than 5% added crit. THAT'S a toss up. Cause, yeah, in PVP, Stam is great. Unless it's one where you've got two healers. Then you kinda just win. But, overall, I'd say, as much as it pains me to say this, it's the worst of the three. I wish it wasn't. I wish mace spec didn't suck so hard. But, as it stands? I'm probably going with the sword. It's a pain to make, but it's probably the best for an Arms Warrior.
Anyone thinks otherwise, I'd actually be glad to hear your thoughs. Unlike most people, I don't think I'm the end all be all of knowledge. So, yeah, if someone has this, or just has ideas as to why this is better, let me know. ^_^ Thank you!
Total Materials Required for Thunder, Deep Thunder, and Stormherald are:
Primal Air x20
Primal Water x20
Primal Mana x10
Hardened Adamantite Bar x6
Khorium Bar x12
Primal Nether x8
Nether Vortex x5
They drop from trash mobs in SSC and greater, aswell as boss's
i have this weapon since 3 days
nice weapon,rocks in pvp but i do more dmg with fury.
the procchance is ~5% ,big heroric stirke crits and slam too,but crap for pve :x
Hehe I got a Artisan Blacksmith friend :P
This is probably the best PvP weapon out of the Bloodmoon, Lionheart Executioner, and this. Its the Slowest and has nearly 60 stam, while the other 2 have none. :(
This is speaking strictly from a warrior's stand point. It will also be important to see the effects of resilience in PvP before re evaluating the weapon specs (sword/mace/axe/pol) in PvP.
Like the Bloodmoon, it will also require the its predecessor (Deep Thunder), and 20x Nether Vortex.
I just submitted a screenshot of me previewing this....IT LOOKS AWSOME!
it's shaman item FTW! It will proc pretty often whit wf and attack speed increases and if you are lucky your enemy can't do anything to you.
I have Singing crystal axe atm and i have got my attack speed whit it to 0,92s (weapon proc, mongoose proc, bloodlust, flurry, berserking and Abacus of violent odds) and dps to 1k (that dps what is told in melee stats)
wow, EASY gold. all you have to do is make this and you can sell it for 16 gold to a merchant. IMBA! Im gonna just make these and sell them to merchants from now on. Epic flying mount here I come!
Retribution Paladin here.
Just to clear some things up: Vortices (Plural of Vortex) do NOT drop off of just bosses (Do they even drop off bosses anymore?) but rather from the trash mobs in the instance. Currently, I have 4/5 of the Vortices to craft my Stormherald, and have my Deep Thunder ready to go. I'm really excited for tonight.
can I become Master Hammersmith, make this weapon, use it, and then unlearn blacksmithing still using this weapon? or I have to know blacksmithing to fight with it? it's only theoretical question :P
Not to burst anyone's bubble or anything, but those who are super excited about making this weapon and will do anything to get it....you might want to join the worlds top raiding guilds. The only place known to drop Nether Vortexes (to my understanding) are form Lady Vashj, the final boss of Serpentshrine, and so far only 2 guilds world wide have taken her down. And I believe she only drops a few at a time.
So all in all it would take even the very best of guilds months to get her on farm status, and then you have to beat out everyone else to get the Nethers. This is by no means a "casual gamers" weapon. It will probably be more rare then a lot of Legendary weapons.
Why isn't there Whitesmith's?
i like enthusiastic ppl who want to be BS's , well GEAT REAL GUYS it cost me about 3k gold to get to 350BS , and months of work , maybe if your a nationality that we know are the best in power lvling anything <<o>>,<<o>> u can get it faster , BUT I'M NOT! so GL to you and wish it to me 2 its bona take weeks and alot of money to get 25 skills .. it sounds easy doesn't it.. :O
As soon as I get my mount, I am power leveling my blacksmithing skill to Master Hammersmith....then I will use the other stuff I'll be able to make to get money, and slowly but surely level to 70.
When I get to 70, I AM MAKING THIS WEAPON NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES! XD
Ok i only know that i need Deep Thunder to upgrade it to this one,but what are the other mats and where they drop.Btw Damn this is a shaman weapon FFS.
Does anyone agree with me that this weapon looks likes lord saurens mighty 2h axe it litrallly looks like a copy of it but a different handle
375 Master Hammersmith here. I have the Thunder. Was hoping someone had some info of the Nether Vortex but it doesnt look like it. ><
Alright so where do you get the plans to make this thing? Or is it some quest thing like Thunderfury?
Still a nice weapon and comparable to the S3 mace.
Even though the stats are weaker and the proc is rare it can be devastating at times.
If you can't get a veng mace, this is a good alternative now.
As a druid, i know for a fact that weapons cannot CANNOT proc in shapeshifted forms. I'd much rather have this staff over this. Not to mention you just have to kill one guy to get this beauty, and not even TOUCH a tradeskill.. But. That's just me.
So... I'm pretty sure this weapon is amazingly sexy and awesome.

Kinda wish they'd increase the stun proc duration to 6 seconds, and not leave it the same as Deep Thunder
386 - 579伤害
