Drops from Gruul.
Highest +spell damage and +spell crit on a one hand sword in the game to date.
I still dont know why the heck is a warrior wealding it on the screenshot >.>
The glow is actually blue.
It's the same model as the melee dps gladiator swords.
anyone see stats in 2.10?
Considering that this blade drops off of Gruul, who is no walk in the park to kill, this blade is not that great. The Nathrezim Mindblade:
that drops off of Prince Malchezaar in Karazhan is easily comparable to this, and much easier to obtain. With the mindblade, you gain 2 stamina, and 3 intellect, while only losing 2 crit. In my opionion, the mindblade is an easy choice over this.
I wonder why they upped the DPS on this weapon. It's not a great tanking sword for Palas anyway (lacking stamina).
this weapon is a prime example as to why mages and locks should (in certain circumstances) pass on the Nathrezim dagger. S.Priests, oomkins and eleshams don't have as many options as mage/locks do.
tbh, I think gruuls is not much harder than prince, it just needs tactics.
in favor of this blade being easier to get though, killing prince includes a great deal of luck with the infernals, not to mention the fact a gruuls run takes a LOT less time than going to prince in karazhan..
About the same quality as
which drops in Kara. The gladiator S1 and S2 spellblades are also comparable, if you can't get this then you can try for one of those. Overall a very nice weapon, should last most people all the way into late T5 or early T6.
Very nice sword , i was able to obtain it last night off of gruul. I would i say try to go for the Mind Blade off Prince in kara, much easier to obtain.
In my opinion this leans more towards paladin tanks, while you are welcome to disagree but there seem to be several, much easier to obtain daggers for the warlocks out there.
This item actually never drops. It's a myth. Srsly. I can't tell you how many times I've seen Gruul die and not once has he dropped this. It's a lie perpetuated by Blizzard and WoWhead to aid them in their neo-fascist take over of the Western World.
Has kick-ass looks and on a mage u look like a war using an off-hand (dumb) *sigh* ...
Nice stats too but nearly same as that dropss of Prince Malchezaar a much easier boss compared to Gruul the Dragonkiller.
for such a great looking sword, the stats are ultimately weak.
This weapon is great for rouges except the intellect but stamina is good.
Got it on my mage today. Looks pretty awsome:
I got it with my holy paladin...
lol i make a lot of damage with seal of rigth and holy shock!
Both: Bloodmaw Magus-Blade and Nathrezim Mindblade will be buffed to about 205 spl dmg after 2.1 :D
This blade droped in our guild first gruul kill. Lost roll ;/
I've gotten this and it's boosted my spell damage immensley. Had the Greatsword of Horrid Dreams before that...
Stick a 40spell damage on (and or Soulfrost) you can be hitting 243 - 253 bonus spell damage on one piece of equipment. That's pretty impressive.
I got for 50DKP. So happy :D
Dropped for my guild with our first downing of Gruul, went for 150dkp. Nice sword, i missed out by 20dkp... So sad, but nice none the less.
I LOVE BEIN A GM! I CAN GET WHATEVER I WANT! HAHAHAHAHAHA! SUK IT!
where is this from?
It indeed drops from Gruul
A great caster sword, the best DPS 1hander for casters currently implemented, is it not?
This sword is godly. Worth the DKP to me over any other piece (weapon or otherwise)in BC so far. This is the new Mageblade el oh el.
I prefer this weapon over the dagger off of Prince in Karazhan. The blade just looks better. <33 Huge for being strapped to a caster.

there are 3 one handers that have over 200 spell damage that i kow of, blade of the leviathan (drops in serpentshrine 205 spell damage best in game at the moment), this, and th natherzim mindblade....alot of people have that on the natherzim server, lol....but whaqt i think is funny is with +40 spell damage enchant thats like %^&*ing 250 spell damage, if you going for 1k damage, here a quarter of it with one peice...lawl, but its hard even with 70 epics cause spell damage raid items give around 50 a pop some around 60-70...so its hard to break 1k but if you do, ur pretty dam leet to me...but how would i know, im only lv 67, but i got 600 spell damage 0_o when our guild gets to this point, #$%^, itll be sweet!
It's pretty much equal to the Mindblade off Prince in Karazhan.
The next best one-hander is the Fang of the Leviathan off Leotheras the Blind in Serpentshrine Cavern, followed by The Maelstrom's Fury off High Warlord Naj'entus, and finally followed by Tempest of Chaos off Archimonde in Hyjal.
This isn't counting arena one-handers or the one off Doomwalker.

This drops from Gruul
do you guys have that much time..lets leave it at this whoever wants it is gonna have to consult with their guild....let them decide....sinceraly---a mage
I know I'm a little biased on this, but I have read through all of the threads and had to add a little input of my own...
I am a serious Tankadin. I main tank for my guild in Karazhan and am one of our best (if not THE best) Tanks for 5-Mans and Heroics. I have had 7 Elites in Shattered Halls beating on me at once and can hold aggro on all of them while a Shockadin or Balance Druid can easily keep me alive while Mages and Warlocks AoE the whole group to death.
I currently use a Continuum Blade from CoT rep and getting the Bloodmaw would mean a boost of 60 added spell damage to my attacks. As all of you should know, Paladins hold aggro through Holy damage and Holy damage primarily. Any boost to spell damage means more threat generated and a greater hold on aggro.
If you have a Paladin that only wants this for the minor occasion that he will off-tank in some 25-Man, then fight tooth and nail to ensure that it goes to a Warlock or Mage. But for those that have a Tankadin and know what they can do, you can understand exactly what this can mean for them.
Think of it this way, as a Mage, how often do you pull aggro on groups of mobs in Karazhan and instantly get killed when 2 or 3 elites hit you for 3k apiece? How often as a Warlock does Seed of Corruption get you in trouble when the burst effect turns the mobs toward you? How far down does your DPS drop when you're lying on the ground? I know that most want their DPS to be as much as it can possibly be, but what good does it do you when you have no care for aggro control and get yourself killed 10 seconds into the fight?
If your Tankadin gets this, it means the WHOLE raid can increase their damage output by that much more and still be safe. It means Mages not dying on Party Packs in Karazhan, or Warlocks not keeling over while being a bit too liberal with their use of their DoT's.
To put it simply, what's better for the raid? A 2% increase of threat from a DPS class? Or a 2% increase of threat from the Tank? What's easier for the raid to get as a whole? A 2% decreased threat enchant on everyone's cape? Or a 2% increased threat enchant on Gloves for the Tank?
So yes, I am rolling on this if and when it drops for us. More threat from me when I tank means a potenital boost in DPS from everyone in the raid. Any guild that is serious about keeping their Tanks geared and the raid safe, should consider the same. E-peen size and the desire to top the DPS meters despite keeping the raid safe should take a back seat to that any day.
-Krynn of Agamaggan
If you are going to use this 100% of the time (no matter what your class) you should have a chance. i.e. If your a tankadin and all you ever do 100% of the time is tank, then sure go for it. But if not let a mage or warlock have it because we WILL use it 100% of the time therefore making better use out of it. Im a lvl 70 mage btw.
Before I get started on this I just wanted to say that I am a protection spec'd paladin (10/41/10).
I was Retribution spec'd all the way to 60, I switched specs because I was running with a fire mage, an arms/fury warrior, and 2 shadow priests. I was using the Aurastone Hammer at the time and I had no problem keeping aggro off of them. I have had little to no +spell damage gear from then till now and still I have no problems tanking for them, and while yes it does help it isn't entirely necessary. I actually upgraded from the aurastone to the Blackguard because I perfered the parry bonus and I am currently using the crystalline draenic sword. I have found that stamina and armor are more beneficial than bonus's to damage, having 11.3k life and 12332 armor gives me plenty of survivability so the casters can wait the extra .3 seconds for my consecrate to go off before they start hitting with their spells.
Now the other side of my argument. Should pallies have a shot at this sword? Why not if your willing to spend the DKP. However, personally I want the Continuum Blade the spell damage is lower but the stamina is over twice as high while the intellect difference is negligable at best. The best part? the sword is purchased from the Keepers of Time which getting rep with is rediculously easy and you don't have to worry about casters complaining. and while I don't agree with Gilldor about mages/locks being the only class that would use this all the time (personally I'd always have it equiped) it would benefit the raid more going to the top damage dealing classes first, and yes they can use staffs and daggers, but like it has been stated above we can use maces and shields while they can't.
But what it really comes down to is what your raid leader decides, personally I'd be hard pressed to let pallies have first whack at this weapon because I know I'd pass on it first.
PS for those of you who say you need to out damage your DPS to tank for them obviously didn't invest in improved Righteous Fury.
That's my name. 70 mage, Gnomeregan server. I can't say that i have ever played a paly class, or even know what "white" damage is. But i can tell you a little about me. I have descent gear, far better than most mages, being that i wear all rare equip. That being said, i have no epic gear. And my +spell damage is currently at 789. My spec is 61/0/0, go ahead laugh all you want and make fun at arcane mages, but i too am also not hiding who i am. Ask anyone who knows me on my server and they will tell you that i have out dps'd every other mage/warlock/rogue i have instanced or raided with.
But to get to my point, there is a Tankadin that i sometimes group with in Shattered Halls and other BC instances. I will not name him, being he may not want people spamming his chat log. His prefered method is ZERO CC. He hates when people sheep. Anyone who has ran SH, knows of the 5/6 man pull in the room with the sleepers, at the end of the first hallway. He uses avenger's shield, sometype of judgement, (like i said, never played a paly) and consecrates the ground. Afterwards, all i do is AoE all the mobs. And it is impossible to pull aggro off of him. Even with as much damage as i do. He will do this for every pull. To all who have said Tankadin's suck, maybe it's just the harsh reality that not every single person in WoW is the best player ever. Yes mages can be out dps'd by even mediocre rogues if they don't have good gear or are just bad players. Maybe the paly tanks other people have played with are just crappy player's or have bad gear because they haven't figured out how to play a paly tank. But i can't say that i've always agreed. I used to prefer to have a Warrior tank. But now that i have seen just how good Tankadin's CAN be, i would have say that the one i speak of, is the best tank that i have grouped with. Ever.
WHY DOES EVERY PALLY IN HERE CLAIM THAT MAGES WILL JUST PULL THE AGGRO ANYWAY?
Are you flipping serious? You're all saying "i'll benefit from this so i'll use it to keep more aggro and generate more threat/dmg" etc, but then go on to say "that mages will just probably pull more aggro".
If you are a good tank or think you are, assume the mages/locks/Spriests you're raiding with are good at their class as well. I play a mage and I don't pull aggro in raids. Because i do what every other dps class does, wait a bit for aggro then do what dps needs to do... the most damage possible. Mages are squishy so we die, that's that. Aoe dmg, adds, whatever. To clear raids aggro holding is paramount but you can still do it without this weapon. Whenever my tanks get aggro and are screaming for our dps, we want these weapons. Plus, most fights are so long, the threat of MT and OT nearly triples our threat so stop freakin saying we'll pull more.
we won't. The sword does more damage, give it to damage dealers. I'll make you a promise, as will they i'm sure. I promise to wait a bit longer to even start fighting so i won't pull it. Therefore you have no reason to take this =) Plus tankadins are nice but you don't see druids or wars taking other classes perfect weapons.
This is my main problem with pallies as was stated previously, they can use pretty much any stat. I would use this every day, every minute, raid, pvp, pve, whatever. This would be the only thing in my hand. Dmg is all we need, you need int/sta/dmg/mitigation bla blah so concentrate on the stuff that won't impede the progress of other classes.
Bottom line: i'm all for tankadins having this if they're a prime figure in their guilds raids but only after other classes. This is the same debate as whether healers should roll on +dmg/heal gear when we all know heal gear alone RAPES +dmg/heal gear.
Play your class better, hold the aggro. I'll play mine better, and won't take aggro. But i'm taking this sword!
This thread needs more cowbell.
Your guild/raid leader is an idiot if he lets a rogue roll on this weapon because of "dkp".
All I gotta say as a mage is that if a paladin were to tank this boss than I wouldnt mind rolling against him but if he is healing in the raid and wants a tanking sword over a mage that is only bent on dps. But IF a paladin was the main tank on this fight I would be happy to roll against them for it
It's nice to see that Thott never change. It wouldn't be Thott without the *!@#$%ed "who benefits most" comments under every avalible item in the game.
On a side note. Most of your locks/mages will most likely have the dagger from Prince when you get Gruul on farm status, so Im sure they won't mind this going to a pally.
I wonder how many people posting here with a strong opinion are actually in a guild capable of taking Gruul down.
I'm guessing not many ;)
And regardless of which class has more right to this weapon makes no difference if your "guild" has DKP rules or a priority system in place.
If your tanks don't have the best gear in your guild, then sorry to say it, you are going nowhere. Dispute it all you want, but firstly keeping your tank alive, and secondly giving your tank the ability to allow every raid member to stay "safe" from threat is more important than the needs of your individual DPS machine.
no, not since last patch they took of the attument quests for SSC and the eye, after karazhan the only other thing that req attument is the black temple
okay, from what ive read it seems that all people are doing is trying to prove who would benefit more from the sword.
ideally any spell dealing class will benefit from this sword. here is why:
paladin: ideally the crit is pointless for a tank since most of their other gear will have +def thus the small amount of crit on only a weapon wont proc often, but the speed of the weapon an amount of +spell dmg is good. a holy paladin will benefit, the +crit helps for their illumination (most paladins have alot of crit to retain mana, but they still need high mp5 gear with their crit, and most items do not have crit with mp5 on them). a ret paladin would not not benefit much since their gear should consist of a mix of ap and +dmg, and having a 2h would be better for dps.
warlock: good for a warlock, but the crit does not benefit them much since most of a warlocks dps comes from their dmg over time spells, however the spellcrit would help for their spells such as shadowbolt, etc.
mage: greatly benefit a mage all around.
priest: cant use
shaman: cant use
druid: cant use
of course, everyone who wants the sword is going to argue otherwise as to why they should have it.
most likely if the sword drops it will come down to if you guild allows you to roll on the sword, but ideally any spell dmg class that can use the sword should have the right to roll on the sword.
General set up for a Paladin tank would be the following.
Seal of the Crusader. (increases attack speed by 40% granting X amount of attack power but each hti deals less damage. Unleashing This Seal will Increase Holy DMG taken upon the attacker by up to X amount.)
Then obviously after setting that down you would Judgement.
Then Following those moves. for DPS you would Use seal of Righteousneous. Which Makes the attacker of the Paladin take X amount of damage for each hit against him or her.
Also for rounding up mobs, Consecration, also does X amount of dmg to all enemies in the surrounding area.
Now try and figure all of those X amounts out.. If the actual Move says it does.. 120 Damage for each hit taken from SoR, and 120 dmg over 8 seconds with Consecration, then adding spell damage is the best friend to a paladin.
I kid, I kid.
Personally, I'd take the apexis sword over this for tanking. Less QQing and more happy campers! :D
mages and locks for sure. there are diff weapons pallys use that can tank that are better. mages and locks put them to use best.
Go get the Merciless Gladiator's Gavel and make everyone happy Tankadins.
If you're serious about tanking spend the time in arena to get this.
That is all.
Have this on my paladin its brilliant.
I have a 40\0\21 warlock & carry
The Bringer of Death
. It has 121 damage & about 42 crit, before enchant. This blade is about an 80 spell damage upgrade, not including what you can carry in your offhand. My spell damage is about 820, unbuffed, easily buffed to over 1000. Any tank worth a #$%^ can hold aggro on me with a timely soulshatter (usually, but I DO watch my aggro when I have to). On normal trash mobs, if your dps is so low that you actually have to worry about them, get a new group. On bosses & larger trash mobs, just pace yourself until everyone has gained a significant amount of aggro & soulshatter. That should put you at a significantly lower aggro than a lot of people, especially your tank, be it a pally, druid, or warrior.
The argument that casters should not have high spell damage so the tank can hold aggro sounds like a bad excuse for bad tanking. If this sword drops, I'm going to roll on it, and rightfully so, as should any lock, mage, pally, or anyone who relies on spell damage.
blah blah blah @#$%^ &*!@# *!@#$ listen up folks its not like these things are a 1 time drop, they will drop again it will go to a caster plain and simple as for tankadins who cares unless your guild is running a tankadin for a mt then most likely will go to a caster first. gods who cares what caster class it should go to, whether it be a mage a lock or balance druid. get over it run gruul's every week if you can you will eventually get your gear that you want end of discussion i have no idea why you ppl *!@#$ about who it should go to or not go to. just give useful info on it not stupid petty bickering.
I would just like to say to any pally tank's or mages. This sword is droped in a 25 man raid group. Why would you give to a tank "pally", when all i see are tanks talking about in here are heroic's. Who cares how many a pally tank can hold if hes only having to hold one boss in a "raid". I think this could go to a mage or a pally but mages should have first bid. It doesnt matter what weapon the tank has if you raid smart and dont go over his threat.
Who the &*!@ posted a pic of a shield?
sorry double post
my guild has been farming gruul for 8 months now and this sword hasnt even dropped ONCE
