23 spell crit pts = 1.04% chance to crit at lvl 70.
So how come Warlock dungeon set 3 head is better then mage tier 4 in all aspects except the 1% crit..... which i'm honestly not so worried about.
spellstrike hood > this
The Socket Bonus from Collar of the Aldor being 5 Spell Damage makes it match up to the Spell Damage of the Spellstrike Hood, making a total of 46, so it is the same damage, more crit, obviously as said before no hit, but the collar has much better stats, and also a meta gem socket, which can be very good.
Currently, i'm a mage, deep fire--and, an engineer.
(short version)Should Enginers roll on this?
(long version)Concerning 4 piece proc, i won't have much use for it raiding(as a fire spec). Yeah, there are random aoe times, but those are never any trouble-just tedious. In other specs, POM cd reduction is great, and shorter IB cd will always come in handy. But really, all three of these are more pvp bonuses i think. I know, IB and POM cd reductions will be used constantly in raid situations; but, they are more valuable still in pvp situations.
That's my point. Having Destructo Holo-Gogs, I think I may only equip the Aldor helm sometimes for pvp (unless i have all 5 pieces of set, then i'll never equip it). I doubt i will ever equip it raiding. The Destruction Holo-gogs
would probably still be better than the Aldor head piece even if it included the set bonuses on its own.
And finally my question: Raiders usually try to collect every piece of their set. Not only cause the sets are upgrades, but, just cause having a whole set is cool. If, Helm of the Fallen Hero drops off Prince, should a mage-engineer even roll on it? Or should he/she wait until all the mages, hunters, warlocks who aren't engineers have already got it?
Of course, there is also the possibility, that i am crunching numbers poorly, and the aldor helm is actually an upgrade from the Holo-gogs. Let me know if you think that too.
Just keep in mind that from an arcane mage point of view (with Arcane Mind and Mind Mastery), the 35 intellect adds another 10 spell damage to the unsocketed total. (35*(1.15) *.25 = 10).
The comparison then breaks should be if you like the spellstrike set bonus more than the meta socket.
The 2set bonus is best for frostmages. Since fire specced mages got a talent Burning soul that makes the fire spells get 70% chance not to lose casting time.
I would say that frostmages need this more then firemages ...
but is a very nice helm for all mages
I managed to get this as my first bit of T4, wasnt too impressed with it, IMO it looks like a Medical neck brace. Compared to the other class heads its lacking looks.
That aside, although on its own there any a few replacements that are better, Spellstike is better just based on +Spell dmg Ect, But with other bits of T4 this is much better than anything else. I still use the Helm/Chest over SSC/Eye Loots
The token for this piece drops from Prince in Karazhan.
this is the ugliest headgear ingame. and its tier 4 oO i wonder why they didnt make it look better?
got it today after we one-shotted prince :)
very good, except blue gem is not my style.
prefer yellow or red
The 2-piece set bonus is most desirable for any mage out there. Can't wait to get my hands on this one, already got the gloves.
8.2k mana is fine, that's about how much I have with pre raid gear and I never have mana problems. To the guy who said get +crit last, I think +crit for a fire mage is quite a bit more important than that, just below +spell damage actually. And to the guy who said evocation is a waste, try equipping an all +spirit weapon before you use evocation, it makes a big difference.
I used to have about 8.5k mana in all blues (around 650 spell damage and 12% to crit unbuffed) as a frost spec. Now I have 950 damage to frost, 18.5% crit unbuffed, but I'm down at 7.8k mana pool, As long as I make a mana emerald and ruby pre-fight, I'm usually fine. If its a longer fight (10-15 minutes long) I'll just use mage armor.
At 70 I have 10661 mana and around 23% to crit with spells w/ Arcane Intel. It's not all thta hard to reach over 10k mana and 20%+ crit chance.
I also wear spellfire armor but the arcane tree helps recover the lost mana and can deal some massive damage with crits.
Why is everyone in here dicussing how much mana a PvE mage should have? This is meant to have comments
about this sweet headpiece
For looks: I think the mage sets nowadays are rather silly, and whenever i see this item on my mage it reminds me of a piece of (used...) toilet paper you've wrapped around your head.
Stats wise: Sigh... it seems like blizz yet again wants us to stack on spirit (hence the blue socket, instead of yellow or red). What I enjoy about this particular item though, is that it has better stats than the warlock version. In your face warlocks! Mwaahahahaa
btw stats > looks, it's possible to hide it anyway
On mana pool: unless you're a full frost mage, you'll run out of mana if you have any less than about 10k mana. Nuff said. Gogo chainchunk those mana pots! (I have 10k mana unbuffed XD)
I'm a fire mage and have over 9 k mana with AI...34% chance to crit. I find that master of elements in fire tree that returns 30% of the mana is returned to you after dishing out a crit...and with my crit chance i can go for a while. Also have other mana reduced talents such as pyromaniac and elemental precision...so relle if u spec properly having over 10 k mana isnt that important...unless you like to spam arcane blast
i like to spam arcane blast with fire armor and on 4 pulls 11k mana is just enough...about the hat, it sucks. spirit is worthless for a mage and the entire t4 set for mages blows. and hey, your fire mage stats are great for pvp, u would suck ass in a raid. all that crit is great until your 10% threat reduction doesn't mitigate your massive crits with burn damage afterwards. so good luck with that crappy build, lol.
This Helm is actually really nice.
More spell dmg than anything else you're gonna get from Kara (I think)
Nice amount of Int and Spirit.
The stamina is important too, a dead mage does no dps.
And ofc, crit, <3333
Well I play a 49 arcane, 12 fire mage and i use mostly arcane missles and arcane blast and i have about 12k mana and a 23% crit chance so that is pretty good i guess, this is a very nice head piece but really spirit? take that 17 spirit off and give me some hit rating or some more int... not saying spirit is bad for mages but really i would like some hit more, also ill just throw on a spirit heavy green weap when I evocate and im fine
Meh...the only thing that makes this helm worth pursuing is the meta gem. We have Karazhan on farm, so if I REALLY wanted it, I could get it in a week or two. I have the battlecast hood...which works well enough for my uses.
I just got this last night and I am really dissapointed in how it looks, you can barely even tell its on.
The warlock one looks really great. Wish we could have got some fire or frost looking glow from a helm. Not some 3rd grade cardboard cutout around my neck. =(
When raid buffed over 12k mana, 7k health, 34% Crit with approx 79 hit and with gems and chants it comes over 1200spell dmg in a 25 man.
says a lock which takes no skill to play. hard to cc stuff when you dumb s**ts put all your dots on them.
hey i just got this and i was wondering what are the BEST sockets i could get for this haedpiece? im a human mage lvl 70 on server hoamarush my guyz name is maknptsclaps
For a mage who hasnt maxed their spell hit (and if you're still chasing t4 then you probably havent) i'd say that the Uni-mind Headress off netherspite would be of better use, seeing as how spirit doesnt affect evocation any more. I'm not saying that spirit is useless, but imo, for effeciency, +spell hit>spirit.
Also (again in my opinion), blue sockets=gay for mages, in terms of raiding. When i see a blue socket on a decent headpiece i QQ. The majority of blue socket gems have crappy combo's for mages, ie 4 int and......mp5, or 5 spelldamage....6 stam. If your halfway decent, you should have around 7-9k hp with fort, kings and motw, and if the healers are doing their jobs, and you're not being a @#$%^&bag and pulling agro, then theres no real need for insane amounts stamina.
Though the set bonus for 2 is pretty nice :)
HOLY NUB MAGES ON THIS THREAD!
I dont know where to start. If you raiding pyro with molten armor up thats your choice, if you want to use 25 mana pots a night.
I am 41,0,20 arcane frost. My crit damage bonus is 150%.
my hit is rocking at 17% with arcane talents. I regenerate 75% mana while casting with mage armor, arcane talents, and a +SPIRIT TRINKET I wear for boss fights. I have almost as much spirit as stamina.
After a 10 minute endurance fight I usually finish with half mana, no evocate used, and no mana pots used. Im also always #1 on the damage meter, even though there are pyro mages, rogues and locks with way better gear then me.
I out dps pyros naked. I dont use pots elixers or anything during raids as its a waste of money. I might put some wiz oil on my blade for boss fights but thats it. Yet I out dps everything in my guild that is better geared then me.
and what might your toon name be copperplated so i can look u up on armory
