The amazingly tight damage range and high DPS on this bow makes me wonder how many other hunters I'm going to see in TBC farming Thrallmar rep for this bow...
A full 13 DPS more than Soulstring... Certainly impressive. It's too bad we can't start building our reputation until we get into the beta however. Same model as the Ancient Bone Bow, nice choice, always was a nice model in my opinion.
Sucks that in the beta, now all that time grinding rep for it was wasted on nothing :)
Wow, well, i'm getting exalted with Thrallmar no matter how long it takes. That is a sexy bow.
Okay... confused. Can Alliance get Thrallmar rep or is there an equivalent bow from Honor Hold that I am missing?
The old Ancient Bone Bow had the same incredibly tight dmg range before they changed it, and was much loved for it due to its consistency.
This seems to represent the re-incarnation of a classic :P
Already revered! =P Just got my key to the Shattered Halls, and it's time to get to work. Anyone know if there is a way to gain substantial faction beyond revered outside of doing Shattered Halls? I love running instances, but I would like to at least be making progress while the other people on the server are getting to 70.
Side note: Get revered and get the Blackened Spear! I just got mine and a +70 AP enchant. Very Very nice.
Link to Blackened Spear =
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this qualify as probably the best ranged weapon for hunters in the game at the moment?
No longer best weapon for Hunter's. This was just recently discovered:
Sunfury Bow of the Phoenix
Binds when picked up
157 - 292 Damage Speed 2.90
(77.4 damage per second)
Durability 90 / 90
Requires Level 70
Equip: Increases attack power by 30.
Sells for 8 Gold 68 Silver 83 Copper to vendors
Item Level 110
I have yet to set foot inside Shattered Halls but I intend to get to at least revered for the polearm until I get my hands on the Sonic Spear.
Got to wondering what the average reputation ganied for running a full Shattered Halls run is? I assume the rep for killing stuff will stay the same all the way through revered like with other places it seems?
Trying to get a feel for just how many runs I'm looking at to get this bow, approximently.
Damage range have been fixed in this patch.
This bow is one of the best non-Karazhan epics in the game, matched only by the Wrathtide Longbow
from Heroic Steamvault.
For a while I'd been using Valanos' Longbow
as it was one of the best non-epics in the game.
I managed to do Shattered Halls up to Revered for the Blackened Spear
(which I replaced with a Sonic Spear
some time later).
After that, I did Heroics and more Shattered Halls until exalted. My guild is in Karazhan but we've yet to see a ranged weapon drop from the Huntsman or the Opera so I went ahead and bought it. I haven't looked back.
Best way to get exalted fast is run Heroic Ramparts its a quick instance, and get a thrallmar favor to increase rep gained by 25% not sure if alliance have the same maybe a honor hold favor or something but either way it will get u exalted fast.
Another alternative to this bow is now the
from Ogri'la exalted rep.
The Ogri'la rep will be significantly easier to grind - no more running shattered halls till you're blue in the face - but you trade in the +22 AP on this bow for +16 stam on the Ogri'la crossbow & get a weapon with lower top end damage (but higher bottom end damage).
Plus the Crystaline Crossbow looks like a bulimic purple anchor, whereas this bow looks quite cool IMO.
Personally I'll be going with the
Gryo-Balanced Khorium Destroyer
tho - another comparable option for non-raiding/pvp characters, plus I'd rather blow a boatload of gold than do another rep grind to exalted on a farming character.
The reason why the Alliance have a gun and Horde a bow is in my opinion because dwarfs have a +1% crit with guns racial and trolls have +1% crit with bow racial.
rogues/fury warriors should get this weapon for the stats. Not many other ranged weapons outside 25 mans will have the pure dps stats that this bow has.
Probably the most badass looking bow in-game, and only shares model with 1 other item.
WTF this is horde only? Where's the alliance equivalent?
yay just go thtis and its cool :D
Boo at the damage range!
Consistency is nice, but I know people love to see big numbers on occasion!
This is still a very good bow overall, but the narrow damage band is a little odd.
celebate, I mentioned consistency; and I didn't even talk about tesing gear or builds. You get 50 low end and loose 50 top end, this doesn't in any way make this better then other bows/guns of similar DPS and speed.

Another example of Blizzard's retarded design decisions, horde gets only a bow and alliance only a gun. Was it so hard to add both rewards to both sides, really, so that elves who don't want to run around with a BFG can get a bow, and tauren who want to look badass with a gun can get one?
I really don't understand this, it's really freaking stupid.
at least it would be consistant :)
206 - 207 Damage O.o
1st time i see item with such small dmg range.. weird...
Before TBC most end game ranged weapon are bows, why NE cries about that?
Dwarves revenge time FTW !
All the posts complaining about the name, and the small DPS range... Think about it. Marksman, (assume this means "perfect" which it really does). Then think about the damage range. Perfect! Only 1 point difference, this means the person using the bow (because that is who the marksman is) is "perfect" at shooting, and doesn't miss or get lucky (except for crits, of course)
I know a lot of hunters who complained not about the small DPS difference but largely because hunters are known for their consistant DPS. Unlike many other classes who have mid-ranged cooldowns (20seconds-1minute) or moves that can (or should) only be used first (Ambush, Pyroblast) hunter's do one cycle repeatedly. This bow just makes their DPS even more consistant. I know a lot of Alliance hunters who will be glad this bow got changed to be more similar to the Alliance gun.
EDIT: In reply to Kamol's question:
"is this bow really only for hordes?
cos in this photo its a night elf holding it.
At the bottom of that screenshot it clearly says that it's a photo of the Ancient Bone Bow, which happens to have the same model as the Marksman's Bow.
As a well oiled player of the game, I find it slightly irritating to see comment after comment about blizzard "favoring" alliance over horde or vice-versa when in reality, blizz has done a fairly good job at compensating for the differences between class/talent etc, especially with the release of BC, new talents/abilities, etc. In reference to the numerous remarks about the Honor Hold (exalted) gun and the Thrallmar (exalted) bow, they are the exact same thing. One may comment on the slighty higher overall damage rating on the bow, but then after getting over the noob effect and noticing the weapon speed is slightly slower than that of the gun (2.70 vs. 2.80), the difference between the overall damage is nil. They do the same damage. The extra agi is the same, the attack power is the same and the hit rating is the same, and having never rolled with alliance, I can't comment about rep grinds...but I'm sure Honor Hold/Thrallmar rep grinding is identical also. Please read between the lines in the future and make an intelligent comment to prevent undue suffering and pain. (read...rinse...repeat)
exp or rep? If you want exp do the quests, if you want rep then do all the quests for Thrallmar (should take you to honoured) then do Shattered Halls loads of times at lvl 70. Of course you could do ramparts or blood furnace on heroic.
Almost have the rep for this bow with my Hunter. Shattered Halls is tough with the large pulls, crowd control is a must. My biggest suggestion to hunters it to be sure to spec clever traps enabling your ice trap to be cycled. I am surprised at the number of hunters that don't do this getting eaten by the few seconds between traps without it. I prefer to do the heroic ramp and bf than shattered for the last part of the rep. Its not a hard rep to get, it just takes alot of time, try not to watch every point of rep and just enjoy the game it goes by much quicker.
IDEA... grind up to Honored, THEN do the quests, THEN do the Shattered Halls runs. You do 2 things by grinding up to Honored a. You are gaining exp b. You are working on your faction rep. By doing the quests after you are honored you'll probably be revered or close to it, saving you a bunch of Shattered Halls runs IMO. Just an Idea. I did this for Argent Dawn a long time ago before they made it easier. Anyone disagree or have any comments?
I've got this for some time now and I'm extremely satisfied with the results and I would prefer it to the x-bow from the first boss in kara since I'm troll(why lose the crit/dmg from the +5 skill?)and because I'm survival specced. If i was to replace this it would most probably be SUnfury bow or the gun from opera. As for grinding for it,like a comment some lines above said,NEVER count the points,it will make you get bored and say yourself *gosh, who stands farming so many SH or heroic BF/ramps now...* and I'd also recomment not to miss any heroic BF runs, cause it's 3k reputation without thrallmars favour or the alliance counterpart of it.
this bow is only for horde
wats the easiest way to get rep with tharllmar
The best way to gain rep with Thrall--depends a great deal on what level you are and what quests you have done already. Assuming you are just starting out, I would advise the following "grinding" approach.
1. Do not do any quests(outside of Instances) for Thrall Rep now.
2. Grind the Fel Orcs around The Citadel up to 2999/3000 Nuetral status.
3. Run Ramparts & BF until 5999/6000.(You cannot gain any Rep for Normal runs once you hit Honor status.)
4. While you are doing the above, run the daily Fortification Quest--this can be ran all the way to Rev.(You have probably leveled 2-3 levels at this point.)
5. As I do not see anyone taking the time to only run the Fortification quest til Rev--now is the time to do all the Thrallmar Quests. (There are over 70 quests that earn over 10K in Rep.
6. You should be very close or Rev at this point.
7. That leaves only Shattered Halls as your option.
Note: If you decide to run all the quests first, you will most likely hit Honor status in 1-2 levels. The probelm with this is this leaves you with the only option of running SH--which will not happen until you are Lvl68.
think this is worth buying for a rogue?
Definitely worth buying for a rogue - one of the better DPS ranged weapons you can get before 25-mans. Info here:
It's a lot of rep grind for just a ranged wep though.
very nice +aggro for a tank too :D
