this trinket is actually much better than it looks.
It does -901 threat. Which is just a little bit more than a Fade 6. But its a permanent threat reduction.
Also note the 2 minute cooldown. IE, you can use this at least twice just about every kara fight.
There is blue trinket which has a better version of this spell:
It gives -1075 threat. But CD is 5 min, so this one still pwn.
I got this on my hunter the other day. Very effective. It goes nice with me gladiator heavy crossbow, i do way too much dmg with that thing
This item is mainly useful for AoE situations, 901 threat is nothing in single target DPS terms, however in AoE situations it totally negates one or two of your Arcane Explosions or 3-4 seconds worth of Hellfre...
Still I don't like this trinket, Resilience is a PvP stat, yet the "Use" is purely for PvE...
Confused trinket indeed...
This trinket is Beautifull for a warrior, who has no aggro reducing skill.
Often you grab just a little too much aggro with a double windfury crit. The stam and resilience helps your defences survive the hit.
After activating the trinket we loose aggro again to the tank (hopefully), and can be more carefull with nuking ;) A soulstone for a DPS warrior.
Wish I didn't waste gold buying this crap, -900~ threat is nothing. Tested thouroughly and it's no doubt;
(Fetish of the Sand Reaver)> this one big time.
From what i can see, this trinket seems very situational in PvE, but very useful in PvP. Gonna go farm it if I aint too lazy.
Has anyone noticed that this is actually a good TANKING trinket?
As long as you don't use the "Use:", the stats are amazing.
this is a very nice arena trinket. im using this on my mage. with all my stam gear, i have well over 11k life unbuffed. 14k buffed.
250 life + 23 resil means its a very nice trinket.
As a feral druid, I will get this trinket for tanking because +def is not worth to have as much as warriors but I still need to reach the immune crit cap. 23 resilience is about %0,6 less chance to be critted upon which equals to about 15 defense skill (or 57 defense rating).
The use ability can come in handy for tanks too where the tank needs to temporarily drop aggro. Temporus & Doomwalker comes into mind.
I consider this kind of trinket very useful in instances with may pulls composed of more than 3-4 mobs, like Shattered Halls.
In these cases (especially if you are on heroic), you'll have a hard time keeping the tank alive without pulling aggro and since threat generated by heals is divided by the number of mobs (a 6000hp heal is considered 500threat on each mob on a 6 mobs pull, for example) this kind of trinket will come in handy and save your skin plenty of times :D
This is very useful for enhancement shammies and ret paladins. Both classes, IIRC, are the only ones in the game who have no innate threat reduction (most 'natural' melee DPS classes generate -10% less threat; ranged DPS has to generate 130% more threat than the tank to pull aggro rather than 110% for melee) or any kind of threat reduction ability whatsoever (fade, feint, vanish, FD, etc)
+27 stam and +24 resilience make this item fairly solid for PvPers of any class working to get Medallion of the Horde and Talisman of the Horde (effective 88 to 97 stamina).
Easily obtainable by doing a few BM runs.
Nice job blizzard, you finally released a trinket for the four horsemen encounter. Shame it was a little too late!
Having used this trinket in pve and pvp I'm much happier with the pvp applications.
So far noone here have mentioned the real pve uses for this trinket and exactly why Fetish of the Sand Reaver is ultimately better than this garbage Use: for pve situations.
For 5-mans and players learning to manage their aggro granted these are some good training wheels, but for serious pve encounters Fetish is incredible.
On a Void Reaver fight (an encounter where threat matters a LOT) you can use this at most 4 times. That's 3600 threat out of hundreds of thousands. Even when combined with shrouding potions this will barely let you dps for a few extra seconds and for me personally it comes out to less than 2% of my threat. With Fetish you get 5-10% more dps before you pull aggro and die on Void Reaver. That's either 100% more dps (your attacks do 50% threat, letting you dps harder) for 60 seconds in the 10 minute fight (10% improvement) during which time you trinket and blow all your cooldowns or on the low end 50% less threat (your contant dps only counts for half) for 60 seconds of the 10 minute fight (5% deduction against total threat).
I thing that this is one of the Best Druid Tanking trinkets.
It have all we need, we have more Use for rezi instead of Defence to reach cap -5,6% crt and its Use is usefull when we R offtanking at several ocasions like offtanking Supremus where we need to get agro to tank him so If I see that I am much higher than main tank I can just use it and give him a chance to reach agro back to him.
useful for any boss with an agro dump, if a dot goes a tic too long or that fireball lands right after the boss dumped agro.
I just responded to a post on the wowhead forums where somebody asked what the best tanking pet was. I posted the following relaying my turtle experiences. You may find this interesting.
I don't know the definitive answer to this question but i'd like to relay my turtle experiences here.
With maxed natural armor, and my toon wearing mostly mail, my turtle has 14143 armor at 70 which amounts to 57.26% dmg reduction. On top of this he has shell shield which reduces dmg taken by 50%. It has a 3 min. cooldown unfortunately. It should come as no surprise then that there is no pet that can take more of a beating than a turtle. This has been stated previously.
The problem is that unlike owls and gorillas they have no aoe attacks and have trouble holding agro of large mobs.
The only way however to get the best of both worlds is to use the turtle. There's nothing you can do to allow gorillas and owls to take more of a beating, but there are a number of ways to make your turtle better at controlling agro.
rotating growl around to different targets
Misdirection once you get it
Also if you are alone fighting mobs with your turtle and you pull agro, there are some things you can do to reduce your agro.
Trinkets like The hypnotist's watch, The jewel of charismatic mystique, and the Timelapse shard which cast basically cower and reduce your agro.
There's a cloak enchant that reduces your agro from all attacks by 2%
You're probably thinking why would I want to use these trinkets and give up my bloodlust brooch.
These trinkets are used for killing large mobs quickly and that's it.
If you're trying to farm obsidian war beads or motes of water in nagrand for example, it's faster to use volley and the super explodey trap on large mobs rather than killing things one at a time, since their damage scales linearly with the number of enemies they're hitting. (double the number of enemies = double the damage etc.) There's a very real benefit to using these but hunter's generally don't because because they pull agro off their pet, which before 2.3 was an even bigger problem because of the dead zone. When this happens you use the trinkets. In a way it's like having three feign deaths instead of one.
On a slightly different note, there are enemies that hit too hard for you to solo even with a turtle. That's where cower comes in. To my knowledge this is the only situation where cower would be useful.
Instead of sending in your pet and praying he lives you can send in your pet and before he's going to die, you pull the agro off of him and kite while you heal your pet and it continues to do dmg, then you have the pet pick him up again. and repeat. To get agro from your pet you can use distracting shot to help and your pet can use cower. Also turn growl off and on at the appropriate times.
My turtle's name is pizzaface. and just for laughs in shatt i frequently turn on bestial wrath and shell shield, big red sparkling turtle. hilarious.
Hope this helps you to die less.
For a starter druid tank, I'd say this would certainly warrant a trinket slot. Stamina and Resilience? I'm farming rep for the enchanting recipe anyway, this is a pretty decent side benefit.
Summary: this trinket gives 15 DPS for a threat-capped shadowpriest and any similar class.
This trinket gives:
reduction of 900 threat per use (2 minute cooldown)
reduction of 450 threat per minute
reduction of 7.5 threat per second
The average raid-buffed shadowpriest has roughly 50% normal threat reduction (talent, salvation, etc.) but still tends to have his or her DPS capped by threat if well geared. That shadowpriest COULD do more damage/healing on a given fight but would pull agro. So, during an extended single-target boss fight (Void Reaver, Gruul, etc.), a shadowpriest using this trinket can reduce threat by 7.5 threat per second, thus, increase damage by 15 damage per second (or 15 damage + healing per second).
Not much? Maybe not. But a threat-capped shadowpriest using a +spelldamage trinket gets NOTHING out of the +spelldamage trinket because DPS is already capped by threat. So get this trinket and do more damage than you did last week.
(FYI: under similar math, the shadowpriest can do an extra 7 DPS with
Note: this is the *only* trinket currently in game with
stamina and resilience
An odd combination of stats vs. on-use, but if - like me - you're trying to rapidly get together a PVP off-set on an otherwise PVE character it could definitely come in handy. The fact I can get it with rep I already had from helping kara key people is a definite bonus.
To the guy saying
is better :
1) it has a 5 min cd, instead of 2 like this one.
2) taking the previous into consideration, this one clears A LOT more threat than the blue one. In 10 mins, you clear 2150 threat with the blue. You clear 4505 with this one.
To some people saying the stats are confusing :
1) it has clear pvp utility.
2) it is really good for tanks to get crit immunity when they gimp their gear for resistance.
3) its better than AP/Spell damage trinkets in fights where you have to gimp your dps due to threat issues.
sucks because it works like fade. you'll get the threat back after those 20 secs.
Anyway.. This trinket isn't supposed to be used when you are being smacked by mobs. it's supposed to be used whenever it's up. Just do the maths. If it does -7.5 TPS (like Arodi said) on a 5 min fight it will allow you to do an extra 2250 damage/healing without threat reducing buffs/talents. It's obviously a bad trinket to someone who can't double the tank's damage, but that's a different issue and those people shouldn't be here talking trash.
This is a realy strange trinket..While combining resilience for pvp u see the use is good for pve....
This trinket is good for resistance tanks in order to become crit immune. Resist gear has no defense so this trinket can help make the defense in your other slots count for more. And since the only trinkets worth using with def are the hydross one (
Scarab of Displacement
) and the bloodboil one (
), not counting
Styleen's Impeding Scarab
, which is still good imo, anything that you can put in the trinket slot to help get you uncritable helps. This trinket is one of those things.
It can be helpful for FR Tanks on Illidan if you want an idea of how useful it is (as well as the FrR and NR tanks on Hydross).
This Trinket is best used for shadow priest as it gives resilience and stamina that can be used in PvP situations and an extra fade for PvE.
This trinket is only good pvpers, who havn't bothered to get a kind of Medalion of the alliance/horde, and hasn't done a single trinket giving quest in whole tbc.
I haven't seen this mentioned yet, so here goes:
This trinket is also useful to miners on PvE servers. If you aren't a hunter or a rogue, you might find it extremely satisfying.
Have you ever been mining a node and had a hunter or rogue drag a bunch of guys to you and then feign death or vanish, only to reappear seconds later and ninja the node from you? I know I hate it when that happens to me.
Well, with this trinket, the joke's on them. Wait until they start mining the node (don't attack any of the mobs that are hitting you in the meantime), and then pop this thing as soon as they do. Suddenly the aggro will be back on them, and you can finish mining your node in peace. Wonderful stuff. :)

Eventhough I play a rogue as a main atm (and im close to getting this and plan on using it for raiding), I expect this trinket to be verry good for healers in certain fights where healer agro is a problem. I used to have a druid as my main, and have played it 2/3 of the way trough Naxx. Healing causes agro to build on all enemy mobs within a certain range around you. And I would have loved to have had this when I raided actively as a healer because of the AoE threat reduction on this thing.
This is achieved by getting rep with KoT, if you believe you can you use, by all means grab the trinket.
There's only a few trinkets with Stamina that a caster class can get their hands on. Granted there are a few epics from old raids that have them but this will be a lot easier to get, when your helping guildies to get kara attuned. I got exalted pretty quick and still run black moraass to test how good people are.
Btw Im a mage and i've tanked Krosh and lemme tell you, Living ruby serpent (
) and this trinket = GG Stamina
So with -901 threat that you gain (or lose, rather?) with this trinket, is it -901 per mob or is it -901 spread against every mob - similar to how heal agro is gained?
it is -901 aggro to about every mob
this is not alot, believe me
if you use this 2 times in a bossfight, you can use 1 more shadowbolt and not gain aggro, and hope that it doesn't crit..
warlocks will find this unuseful, with soulshatter in reach (-50% aggro)
Does anyone know the CD on this? Thanks in advance.
Imagine a resto druid having fade.
Thats what this gives me: "ghetto fade".
Of course its not as good as fade, but this trinket is
to my resto druid and saves my life on a daily basis.
Threat reduction is awesome. I'm a Feral Druid, and I use Cower when I need to.
A "mere" -901 isn't huge, but it's a big help when you've just pulled aggro.
Drop the trinket, stop attacking (or healing), and you'll probably only take one hit from the mob before the tank pulls aggro back from you.
Then you can get back to doing what you need.
I'm gonna pick this up. I'll use the +25 stam for tanking, and if I ever go back to Boomkin, I'll use it for the threat reduction. Combined with a
, I'll live longer.
As a druid, I agree this is also good for tanking.. I wished I had read the properties of this more carefully sooner, as I'm now seeing the threat reduction is optional and would not interfere with my holding aggro unless I chose to activate that aspect of the trinket (for some odd reason; ie I needed to break out of bear form to do something). Otherwise it gives a nice boost to stamina and resillience which should help survivability considering I already have enough defense and dodge gear..
I recently got this trinket since its the only worthwhile threat reduction trinket I have seen. There is only one problem, the use doesn't seem to work.
As a warlock I have the soul shatter ability, which visibly drops my threat from the threat meter as well as makes the mob (elite or bosses doesn't matter) focus back on the tank. I do understand that its 50% threat reduction compared to only 30% but I have yet to see that threat reduction actually kick in when I use it. The threat meter is stays right where its at, and If my soul shatter cooldown isn't up yet, I'm toast.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with this trinket or any of the others (SL trinket/Hellfire peninsula trinket?)
Any info on this would be appreciated.
every little helps!
Shadow raid priest. I generate aggro from VT and VE which usually puts me at least 3rd on KTM. This is a godsend on fights where im treading a fine line between dps and offtank aggro. Means I can nuke to a slightly greater degree without consequence. Best raid SP trinket IMO.
On fights that you're riding the threat threshold, this increases your dps by 901/120 = 7.5 dps. That's not much but it is something. However, this is not a wise item choice for any fight that you're not able to surpass the tank in aggro.
I think I'd go farm rep at the keepers for this item. It's really a big help in arena, since I'm as a warlock like allways the first one to be targeted. (in 2v2 with a frost mage and in 3v3 with a frost mage and a pala, in 5v5, add another pala and a warrior to it).
I'd sacrifice a trinket slot for this 24 resilience and 27 stamina, which is even increased by another 15% from my talents. Together with a medaillon of the horde this makes high survivability from my trinkets :).
And btw, I currently got 348 resilience which is still going up (would be with this item again). It's 17.65% reduced crit damage and 8.83% less chance to be critted... Resilience ftw!
This trinket as far as PvE goes I'd say is less than mediocre, speaking from experience of course.
PvP based however its been phenomonal as the above poster stated. that stam and resil makes it well worth the money and time spent on it.
When you top the Tank's threat by 10% and pull aggro, you are at 110%. Usually the Tank needs to top yours off by 10% to regain. 10% of 110 is 11. 11+110= 121.
So, really, when you pull aggro off the tank, the tank needs to somehow make his threat jump 21% (plus whatever threat you have caused AFTER the mob has turned to you). 21% is a lot, and if the mob has a lot of HP, 21% will be almost impossible before you die.
In comes trinket:
This trinket really doesen't care about that 10% tank regain rule. It just "annuls/deletes/expunges" the last 901 threat.
Tank has 9000 Aggro.
You burst, end up with 9900 aggro(10% over tank, to get aggro).
Mob looks at you, you pop this.
You drop that 901 aggro, so you go back to 8999 and tank is at 9000.
Tank assumes aggro.
Without this, tank would have to go 10% higher than your threat, if you stopped gaining threat at 9900, tank would need 10,890. In that moment, the tank would need to pull out 1890 aggro.
So, 901 isn't much, but when the tank needs to regain with an extra 10% (resulting in 21%, do the math up there... 110x10%=121) the 901 is really a whole ton.
I understand this trinket certainly has its situational uses, but can someone please tell me what Bliz was smoking when they made this "epic"?
It has decent res and stam, so it's a nice PvP trinket, right? But the Use is completely worthless in PvP for anything but perhaps some AV mobs.
So perhaps it's a PvE tanking trinket with the sta, and the res helps a little? But again, the Use is worthless, actually counterproductive for a tank.
So it has a threat reduction Use, maybe it's good for PvE dps aggro? But of course it has stam and res on it. Stam is somewhat useful, but hardly at the top of the list for dps, and the res does little at all.
The color of this may be a purple, but it is hardly a trinket of epic value at any one time. Bottom line is, yeah it has its uses, but none of them, alone, would be considered any better than a blue trinket for whatever you are doing, and more often a green.
All that said, I admit personally, I *will* likely get this trinket, but only to stack res for arena, and possibly BG's unless or until I can gather a trinket or two with comparable res that have an actually useful Use ability or additional stats FOR PvP.
This is useful for Tanks trying to build a Hydros frost/nature resist set to get to crit immune, the 24 resiliance itemizes better than defense in terms of crit immune. The stam is nice and of course the "use" is totally useless (for a tank)
this comes very much in handy for me as warrior..
After 2.3 the ww is a damn nice attack and also with the sweaping strikes activated you do a damn nice aoe damage
extremly helpfull in trash clearing .
yust activate sweaping strikes ww and cleave then pop thisone... 900 reduced treath on all 5-6 targets shure makes this worth the honorgrind imao.
and when next group is pulled cd is gone..
