They match the warrior's Bold set:
Virtually all level 70 epic items are being changed (either buffed or rebudgeted) in 2.1 now. All of the heroic 5-man epics are receiving buffs, some minor, some major.
New stats for the Eaglecrest Warboots come 2.1:
955 Armor (+83 Armor)
29 Strength (+1)
21 Agility (+1)
33 Stamina (+1)
Equip: Increases Defense Rating by 24 (+2)
in my opinion,
are much better for tanking as it gives both Defense and a very high dodge on top of that.
I recommend enchanting them w/
if gold is low. No gem slots on these boots, but the + 24 defense rating allows for some room to change out some rings, trinkets, or amulets to stay around 490ish Def. Rating and maybe add some stamina.
instead of 7 Stanima Enchant. it grants 8 Stanima and is storeable.
For pure avoidance (as a pally, replace the 25 agil/dodge with 30 for warrior, I *think*...) the Flesh Beast greaves are actually *better*, but I prefer these for the higher armor and stamina possible. The difference isn't all that much, see math below:
Eaglecrest Warboots --
+33 Stamina (possible 45 with +12 enchant)
Equip: Increases defense rating by 24.
21agil / 25 (agil/dodge for pally) = 0.84% dodge
24 def rating / 2.37 = 10.12 skill = .405% dodge/parry/block/miss = 1.62% mitigation
TOTAL: 2.46% mitigation
Flesh Beast's Metal Greaves -
+25 Stamina (possible 37 with +12 enchant)
Equip: Increases defense rating by 18.
Equip: Increases your dodge rating by 28.
28 dodge rating / 18.923 = 1.48% dodge
18 def rating / 2.37 = 7.59 skill = .304% dodge/parry/block/miss = 1.22% mitigation
TOTAL: 2.69% mitigation
There's no contest between these boots and the Flesh Beast's boots. Oh sure, the FB boots have a slight mitigation advantage, but how about the 58 attack power (more if you're a prot warrior who has points in Vitality) for rage and threat generation? Add to that the added HP and armor and the miniscule mitigation difference, and it really is a clear choice.
Of course the FB boots are a
easier to get, but that's the only real advantage.
Rather than spending time running heroics you can just get the Ascendant's Boots
from a simple quest on netherwing ledge.
With 2x12 stamina gems and a 12 stamina enchant the Ascendant Boots will give you:
23 shield block rating.
Gaining 13 stamina and 21 shield block for the cost of about 0.9% mitigation and 280 armor.
For the record, personally I would still prefer the Eaglecrest very slightly. That 280 armor will reduce physical damage taken by about 1.1% assuming you are at around a 13k armor level (about half epic tank gear where you would still be considering getting these boots). Spread over a 15k health pool that is equal to about 16.5 stamina, add in the extra avoidance and the Eaglecrest edge it overall for tanking, plus they are fairly solid boots to use while grinding / dpsing which is a very nice bonus.
In comparing these to Flesh Metal, don't forget that the more str you have, the more damage you can block. I'm unsure of the formula but I think that has to be factored into the mitigation calculation. Also, more str = more damage = more threat, which is always nice.
What NO one has brought up is that this stat distribution is primarily for OFF tanking. Pure tanking stats would offer more stamina, less agility, and possibly another bonus (Shield block, mayhaps).
The whole set of this styled gear would still work for main tanking Kara, but the idea is to put out as much damage as possible from the position of off-tank, while still bein able to take that hit when you need to. More DPS for the non-DPS position, really
Nice tanking boots for sure, matches the Bold armor set.
Weird combination of stats, looks like these boots are meant for tanking yet they have 28 str on them. And thought agility is ok for tanking the stats points are better spent elsewhere. Decent, but for epic tanking boots they should be better.
Just dropped for us on Turalyon, 2 mages 1 lock priest and paladin made a very very good group in here.
The boots are perhaps not the kind a paladin would prefer, but they rock the socks off the blue rubbish I did have. Bit more def, loads of stam, dodge always comes in handy.
As a prot specced paladin I was curious on how tanking the heroics would turn out, but with an alert healer it's really ok. Trash mobs are harder than most of the bosses, atleast in BF. Meton the poor squishie got owned by a 22606 crit from one of the huge demons in there, and he wasn't even enraged...
Dropped from heroic Blood Furnace for me, off last boss
boss very easy, but felguards pack - tt
yeah trash > boss
got them today
as already said, the boss is easy...the trash is the hard part ^^
Nice piece of feet armor! Seems to have the same model as the Bold set. Easy to get, got it on my first 5man run. Put 12 stam on these and they are nice :)
any recommendations of other boots, other than the boots of the colossus from tombs?
Yeah if u go trolling through thottbot for heroics you will find that there are 5 tanking pieces that have simular stats i have shoulders of dementia which are good but not that good. The standard thing is all these pieces have a large amount of agi (stam and strength and def) which can add to both your crit and dodge. I suppose for raid purposes u could be a fury off tank with this gear which would still give u enough crit to proc flurry. Its also good for dodge. None of these pieces have gem slots its basically what u see is what u get. I would like to see what all five pieces look like together to see if they match. Bulking up your stam could be issue too with these pieces because while they have a reasonable amount of stam its not quite enough same goes for the defence which is probably why they have so much agi.
The selection of warrior plate boots in heroic dungeons is pretty dismal. These are fairly nice though.
Best boots you can really get are from blacksmithing, plans sell at AH a lot, for about 1k (not a bad price considering how much pally tanks make aoe farming), already made my t5 boots without ever even entering Gruul's Lair (or even downing a single boss in kara for that matter). Only hard things to get are 2 primal nethers. Most people can probably make them before they step foot inside a raid.
red havoc boots u mean?
if so i have never seen anyone selling them on my server, and the 2 nethers are not hard to get at all, just arange a heroic with ur guild where u are the only one after the nethers
Yeah the Bold set is good but swap out the gloves, leggings, and helm for the Felsteel pieces. Nothing but Stamina and Defense Rating on that set, great for pre-Kara.
