This ring is a quest reward from obtaining reputation with the Violet Eye (Karazhan 10 man raid instance). You acquire them in similar way as AQ40 rings.
This is the exhalted version for any physical dps.
Here are the other different versions:
Buffed in the latest PTR to
From patch notes 2.1.0
"An option is available at Exalted with the Violet Eye to turn in faction ring along with gold for a different exalted-level faction ring."
Great ring for all physical DPS. Though it does not feature crit or agi, it has much more hit and AP than any similar level counterparts. This makes it particularly useful for rogues or warriors trying to stack hit.
For anyone who is wondering, you can destroy your signet and get another. In 2.1 there is also a quest to change your signet. It requires your old signet and 75g.
hmm does anyone know if i can repick the rewards that i have chosen ?
i have chosen the 1 that gives spell crits and dmg by accident..
what i really wanted was the one that gave +hit rating and AP
someone plz ans me ! please..
This is one sweet trinket!
Imo Hit > Crit for a rogue for PVE
because it only has 3 stats, instead of 4. that means the average ilvl point distribution is stressed.
if this thing had 4 stats it'd be better than garonas or the 1k marks ring.
Let me set up an example to show you what the difference is between hit and crit:
We have two rogues. Both have exactly the same weapons and amount of attack power. Lets say that they hit for 100 and crit for 200. They are attacking a target on their own level which means that they have a 15% chance to miss without any hit rating at all.
Rogue#1: (This rogue has focused on getting +crit gear)
Chance to hit: 5%
Chance to crit: 30%
Rogue#2: (This rogue has focused on getting +hit gear)
Chance to hit: 15%
Chance to crit: 20%
Here is what statisticly happens when they make 100 attacks against their target.
Misses with 10 attacks
Hits with 90 attacks.
Hits(100dmg): 63 (63*100═6300)
Crits(200dmg): (90/100*30) ═ 27 (27*200═5400)
Total damage dealt:6300+5400 ═ 11700
Misses with 0 attacks.
Hits with 100 attacks.
Hits(100dmg): 80 (80*100═8000)
Crits(200dmg): (100/100*20) ═ 20 (20*200═4000)
Total damage dealt: 8000+4000 ═ 12000
So as you can see, the rogue with the +hit gear deals the most damage in the end. There are of course other things to consider, such as the chance to gain extra energy from offhand attacks and the increased damage from critical strikes with abilities, but that would make it a bit too complicated:)
My point is that if you want to be the best you can be, it is really important to max out your hit rating before getting too crit-horny :P
I beleive that what is needed is balance.Yes criting like mad is rly nice but hit rating is also rly important.Rogues/Hunters/any class that gets this ring needs hit rating for PVE.In PVP crit is more important (most pvp items have increased +crit and stam).Regarding the fact that you get this ring from pve it is rly useful especially after 2.1.0 when it was upgraded. So when y pve y can sacrifice some crit for hit rating to maximize your dmg.GL with end game instances to everyone:D
This comment is relating to Doncowleone's comment first of all hunters are a dope class and only a noob that has no idea how a certain class works would ragg on it! Groups benefit in many many ways from hunters as they do with any class.....this guy is prob a rogue and gets his trashed kicked by hunters lol! Now about the ring this ring is good, as long as your current statis is kara..... you all need to realize that blizzard cant just give some dope high level ring just from doing kara... this allows you too look forward to better signets in 25 man raids!
Here's a situation that I deal with in raids as a hunter. I, as identical spec as a fellow hunter, have capped out hit rating, and have 21% crit, and about 1300 unbuffed AP. He, on the other hand, has about 1600AP, 30% crit, and about 50 hit rating (about +3.5%). In an average fight such as Gruul, I will do about 8% damage, whereas he always sits around 6.5% damage. He has much greater overall gear (full epics), and I have no epics as per yet. In my situation, I am doing more damage than he is because I am actually hitting my target 100% of the time, where he is hitting it about 95% of the time. As I always tell him, you can't crit what you can't hit.
You've seemingly missed the entire point Grubba.
The crit chance is calculated regardless of whether you hit or not, so you want to be hitting as often as possible to take more advantage of your crit rating. Furthermore, a miss equals 0% damage. Even if you fail to land a critical, at least you are dealing some damage rather than none at all.
And in closing, for a rogue, hit rating is even more paramount because of the dual-wield penalty and poisons. While critical rating is important, hit rating is
important than crit in PvE.
I would side with hit rating over crit. I also went into Gruul and there was another rogue in there who was fully epiced out with just crit gear. I on the other hand am not even close to being epicced out and have mostly hit rating gear with attack power...both of us were about the same in attack power give or take 50 points...but after the end of the raid I was the #2 dps guy out of 25 guys and he didnt even rank in the top ten. I used to go for the crit gear, but I will have to say hit rating is alot better than crit for rogues. Atleast for now, I think Bliz changes things around alot. My overall hit rating is about 14%, his was 7%, my crit is 20% and his crit was 29%
on a side note, in Gruul I wasnt even using my full offensive abilities, I used alot of stunlocks which overall can hurt a rogues dps in a raid but help the overall team.
If you happen to upgrade this ring, and dont like it.. or for any other reason, want a differnt version of it. You can simply destroy the ring, return to the NPC and there will be an option "I've lost my violet signet ring, and I've returned for a replacement." And there you go you have your old violet signet ring of the archmage.
hit is absolutely more important in PVE than crit for rogues b/c of the OH penalty. that's really all there is to it. in PVP, yes, crit is more important but not for a PVE setting.
that's not to say you shouldn't have any crit for PVE'ing...myself, I have 200 +hit and 26.42% +crit which makes for a nice balance (i'm frequently at the top of the damage charts in raiding). this is also w/o any tier gear (kara only).
Gief arms warrior ring...
Hit rating i dont need im not fury
AP is nice on it
My rogue has roughly 219 hit rating and 28% chance. For PVE in gruul/ssc you need to have roughly 225 hit rating. If you notice misses in your attacks then you are not doing the best you can do.
On the flipside you only need something like 90 hit rating for PVP. So great pve ring not so great PVP ring.
hm... Let me make this simpler. As a combat rogue.
421-538 White main hand. 27% crit. With 84% hit. In hit gear 21% crit with 92% hit. 2.6 speed weapon.
153-181 White off hand with 63% hit. with hit gear 71% hit.1.4 speed with 50% damage combat bonus.
80.17002 dps offhand with crit gear.
86.08182 dps offhand with hit gear.
205.299769 dps mainhand with hit gear
196.742539 dps mainhand with crit gear.
Hit gear=291.381589dps white
Crit gear= 276.912559 White.
I have done the math on backstab too. Go all out CRIT with BACKSTAB rogues.
Hit rating is ALWAYS better for COMBAT rogues then crit.
oh ya for the hunters.... The best is to get 139 hit... thats leaves you with a 99.7% hit. You could do that last .2% on hit. When you can get a 30% crit.
wow. it amazes me how much time everyone has spent making up hypothetical situations. truly, this does not benefit anyone. if u like this item and its better than your own (by your own opinion) equip it. if not, oh well. but keep ahold of it and try testing for yourself using a damage meter. of course the test results wont be completely accurate, but overtime you will get an idea of which you would rather have (crit or hit). personally, i believe bliz meant for the hit and crit to be somewhat balanced. dont go all out crit, but dont sacrifice all of your crit for hit.
ps pls no more hypotheticals situations. by the time a reader reaches this point on the page, he has stopped reading the rants (like mine) and starts skipping to the overall opinions.
With a combat spec and equipped in pve gear. My rogue has 23% hit (excluding bonus from +10 weapon skill because the effects are really not that confirmed atm) and 31% crit in pve combat spec. Talk about balance. So basically what I'm trying to tell here is, that you can really have both pretty high without having that good gear. I myself have just one t4, one gruul drop and rest from kara or even 'lesser' places. In my opinion, this is a good ring, but I often use cura and prince rings over this.
its also nice for enhancement shamans
For a Rogue, who wants to Max out his dps in 25man raid, this Ring sux a lot
no agility and no crit strike chance makes it worthless to have
there are at least 11 rings better than this one
