T5 tank set, drop from fanthom lord in SSC, well this legs got a lot of stamina but no dodge ( T4 got a lot ) Anyway you got more stats/def/block to balance..... Red socket = 8 dodge.
This item is actually pretty sad. If you compare it to the Wrynn Dynasty Greaves (from curator in Karazhan) you get the following:
Wrynn Dynasty Greaves give:
.44% to be missed
1.97% to dodge
.44% to parry
for a total of 2.85% avoidance
84 Stamina (with 3x solid star of elune)
Destroyer Legguards give:
.64% to be missed
1.57% to dodge
.64% to parry
for a total of 2.85% avoidance (interesting)
72 Stamina (with 1x solid star of elune)
So, overall you gain exactly 0 avoidance and 246 armor at a cost of 12 stamina. You also gain 33 block value, which helps a bit with threat, and around 4.25% to block, which doesn't really matter with shield block being up most of the time anyway.
In summary 250 armor and a bit of threat gen, for 120 health. IMO, not much of an upgrade, if at all. Especially considering wrynn dynasty is a non-set kara item, and destroyer comes from SSC.
You're giving a lot of reasons why NOT to use tier 5 pants over Wrynn Dynasty Greaves... well how about the reasons on why you SHOULD use them?
To your thought about 4% block being worthless:
due to Human error and current rage when cooldown is up, is shield block up ALL of the time? No. so when that extra attack or two that leaks through your shield block when it is down and is not mitigated, wouldn't you have wanted a greater chance to not recieve a crushing from it? Sure you dont dodge as much when using these pants, but you dont kill your rage generation while using them. Also, your healers dont fall asleep waiting for you to be attacked.
I dont think you read correctly about my "being creative" paragraph ( or maybe i didn't clarify it as i should've) so i will do so again:
Helm - block rating based ---> helm - dodge rating based
(Warbringer helm) (faceguard of the endless watch)
legs - dodge rating based ---> legs - block rating based
(wrynn dynasty) ( destroyer legguards)
Then i suggested if you needed to make up avoidance, use some old items. Now tell me, whats wrong with that? The Sun Eater is not an "old, clearly worse" item and neither is the Elementium Band.
You did however catch me on the set bonus (4/5 or 5/5) in your tell. Why I even mentioned it, I dont know. Those that have it available to them have already gone through this in their head anyway.
Final thing i wish to say is that the dodge sometimes is not that great over block rating. when you had to learn magtheridon, gruul, maulgar and some of the end bosses in karazhan, yes you did need the dodge because maybe your healers weren't as greatly geared, or you didn't have a way to effectively mitigate the damage into a controllable amount. Block rating gives you that controllable amount, but it does it **passively**. By using shield block, you almost guarantee that you are hit... well, what if you want that chance you are not hit?
So, look at things from all angles, both seen and unseen. Destroyer legs is better than warbringer legs, and it is most certainly better than wrynn dynasty. ( btw, not *everyone* put 12 stam in all 3 sockets in the wrynn dynasty, which would make it even a bigger upgrade if it had enduring talasites / sutble living rubies in it.)
imo there is a frightful lack of tanking pants before these that help with threat generation. i've had issues were we lacked paladins to give salvation, so the dps had to throttle itself more than i'd like. personally i'd take these over wrynn's anyday, stacking myself above 45% dodge+parry just gimps my rage and threat, and in anything above kara, and maybe gruul your healers are gonna be throwing the heal reguardless, so why not benefit from it?
4% additional block does not reduce your chances to be crushed at all. For a defence capped tank any hits occurring without shield block up have the same chance to crush unless total avoidance+block approaches 102+. So assuming you are not approaching passive crush immunity SBR is virtually worthless to a tanking warrior.
It is only virtually worthless for the 500 odd damage it mitigates on a hit. Using your own figures of 6k hitting boss with a tank having 500 SBV:
1% dodge will produce 6000/100=60 average mitigation per hit.
1% block will produce 500/100= 5 average mitigation per hit.
Rounding to 20 dr = 1 dodge 60/20 = 3 mitigation per point of DR.
Rounding to 7BR per point so 5/7= 0.71 mitigation per SBR.
While a 30BR:7DR ratio is lower than I expected point for point dodge rating is clearly superior.
Also your comment about healers falling asleep is also misleading, no healers are MT healing retroactively in SSC the heal lands whatever you do. This does lead to dodge being downvalued but not for the reasons you stated. Frankly I love dodge because when everything goes to hell it's nice to be able to survive a little while on your own or have that shot that would have killed you sail past.
I'm sure there are flaws in my maths and BR would certainly come out more favourably for weaker hitting bosses, the figures used are arbritrary but your own. However I felt I could not leave a glaring error such as SBR reduces the chance of a crushing blow uncorrected.
Regardless of the perceived uselessness of Block rating these are clearly an upgrade over all t4 instance available legs, due to there increase in effective health and effective health with SBV. Stacking stamina has diminishing returns without adequate increases in armor value.
It isn't about the Block rating on these pants, it is all about block value and the 2pc set bonus. Assuming you pop shield block every time it comes off CD and you use at least 1 charge you are reducing the total damage from that hit by 130 (just set bonus), now that may seam paltry, but do the math. Assuming protection specced warrior with shield mastery on a 10min fight (length of most enrage timers) you will mitigate from the 2pc bonus alone 15,600 damage.
Now for the next of this, the part a lot of posters forget about... Gear that will be attainable prior to or concurrently to these (t5 quality items only)
<Seventh Ring of the Tirisfalen>
<Red Havoc Boots>
Those items, which most tanks at this point in SSC will be wearing combine with the 2pc bonus to mitigate 342 damage(not including BV from str, or other equipped items) on the first block from a SB. All of which is an increase over the t4 quality items you will be replacing.
On a 10min fight blocking 1 hit every time you pop shield block these items and set bonus alone will mitigate 41,000 Damage. Now if both charges from SB are used every time. You are mitigating 66,440 Damage. But hey go ahead and use your T4 stuf... whats an extra 66 thousand damage(not including added armor mitigation from higher armor levels). The only reason to stack dodge in end game tanking is to make sure that Shield Block lasts the full 5 seconds till it's off CD. You still need to take the lumps for the rage to use things like Shield Slam and Heroic Strike so the boss whoops on you and not the Warlock who just had his soul shatter resisted after putting a whole row of fresh dots up. =P
Here is the Stat comparison to the Tier 4
