PATCH 2.1.0 STATS:
+4 spell damage
+14 spell crit rating
+36 spell damage and healing
The component for this drops off Void Reaver in The Eye.
Tier 5 for Mages
Well balanced PvE shoulders, which matches up well against Mantle of the Elven Kings (
), a trash drop in The Eye. The difference between Tirisfal and Elven Kings is:
-5 stamina, +6 intellect, +7 spirit, +5 spell damage (including socket bonus), -7 spell critical strike rating, -18 spell hit rating, +1 yellow socket, +1 blue socket.
So basically, excluding stam/int/spirit differences, the two sockets have to make up a difference of 18 spell hit (as the 7 spell critical strike rating and 5 spell damage are roughly equivalent). This isn't really possible while satisfying the socket bonus requirements, so you'll typically get Elven Kings being better for raid boss fights, and Tirisfal better for everything else PvE.
This changes completely once you start getting the set bonuses. Pre-2-piece set bonus, 10/48/3 is the highest sustained dps raiding build. Once the 2-piece bonus is obtained a 33/28 PvE-build utilizing a 3xAB + 2xFireball (this requires extremely good timing) can achieve up to 8% more sustained dps than 10/48/3 fireball spam. (assuming equivalent buffs/debuffs)
So basically, you won't do too badly with either one. Without another tier 5 piece, Elven Kings is better for raiding (unless you use extremely high quality gems), while Mantle of Tirisfal allows you to get set bonuses, and is better for similar-level mob dps as well.
Ok all that aside, I feel the issue of gems and socketting should be discussed.
So my opinion on socketting:
Potent Noble Topaz
Which brings you to 51 spell damage, 28 stamina, and 21 spell critical strike rating.
Admittedly you could also do 2
Runed Living Rubies
, which brings your damage to 58, but leaves the rest as is, unfortunately.
Here is the Stat comparison to the Tier 4

holy $%^&! it looks awesome and it is awesome:P
this is mage Tier 5... just dropped for us the other day off of VoidReaver in the Eye (Tempest Keep)
wait is this a drop then?
I just got this yesterday ^^ unfortunately via a DKP accident, our GM made a mistake and gave the item to me even though I was second on the list (I should have been joint 1st but there was a website mess up I think)
It's good stuff, being tier 5, but not massively better than the frozen shadoweave gear which gives more spell dmg. But as it's tier 5, i'm gonna use it :D
had these bad boys a couple of months. I was super excited to equip, although i really like the T4 models.
As for Void Reaver, he is quite possibly the easiest boss on my guilds current raid schedule.
Ok hear.If you want to take the chest you will have to kill Kael'thas last boss tk(tempest keep.If you want to take the soulders you will have to kill VR(Void Reaver). If you want to take the head you will have to kill Lady Vashj last boss ssc
(Serpentshrine Cavern). If you want to take the gloves you will have to kill Leotheras the Blind a boss at ssc.If you want to take the legs you will have to kill Fathom-Lord Karathress.
If you want to recieve the item you will have to go to Shatrath city.Enjoy it!
Why don't these item descriptions include the tokens they are made from?
