With a 15% proc rate, this in a combo with the Bangle of Endless Blessings could be fantastic for a healing priest. Theorycrafting required, of course.
Note: The following is all Theorycraft, may be wrong on some accounts
Out of the five second rule, +220 Spi at a rate of 0.25 mana per Spirit is equal to 55 Mana per tick (2 seconds), or ~138 Mana/5.
Given that due to the nature of the proc, the first five seconds of the 15 proc would actually be wasted in this sense, we can say that, before various meditation bonuses, if you stop casting during this period you will gain 276 mana.
Of course, as Priests we can get a number of bonuses which allow us to continue regaining mana during casting:
1. Meditation Talent, for 15% regeneration.
2. Primal Mooncloth 3-piece set bonus, for 5% regen.
3. Bangle of Endless Blessings (
) proc, for 15% regeneration.
Some quick calculations based on these bonuses:
-- If Casting stops
- 5 seconds @ 15% while casting (Meditation)
= 21 mana
- 5 seconds @ 5% while casting (Primal Mooncloth)
= 7 mana
- 5 seconds @ 15% while casting (Bangle)
= 21 mana
- 10 seconds @ 100% regeneration
= 276 mana
Total mana gain = 276 - 325 mana, depending on circumstance.
-- If Casting Continues
- 15 seconds @ 15% while casting (Meditation)
= 62 mana
- 15 seconds @ 5% while casting (Primal Mooncloth)
= 21 mana
- 15 seconds @ 15% while casting (Bangle)
= 62 Mana
Total Mana Gain = 0 - 145 mana.
We must also remember that Spirit has a secondary bonus for a raiding Priest from the Spiritual Guidance talent, which will turn +220 Spirit into +55 Healing / Damage for 15 seconds (or, +77 with Improved Divine Spirit). If we use a liberal estimate of a rate of 1 Proc-per-minute, or 15 seconds with the bonus and 45 without in every minute, this equals to a constant effective bonus of +14 healing, with the potential of a slight increase with various talent and gear bonuses.
I'll reserve final judgement on the usefulness of this trinket until I have one in my own hands, but initial thoughts tend to veer towards the so-so mark. The bonuses are alright but weighted against some other choices in trinkets for either more powerful Use: functions or passive bonuses, it seems a little lacking.
If I've made any bad calculations, feel free to correct me.
Aside from the regen, this proc grats +77 healing to a Priest with Improved Divine Spirit and Spiritual Healing (+35% healing from spirit).
On another note, why does this proc read "up to 220 spirit"? This implies that it would proc between 0-220 spirit instead of a flat amount. The Masquerade Gown (
) proc description reads: Equip: Chance on spell cast to increase your Spirit by 145 for 15 secs.
On the 22.214.171.124 PTR this is now
Use: Increases spirit by 300
Equip: Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 40
Sick for a priest that knows he's getting the innervate and good overall especially if you can stop healing for a little bit.
A look into the mana regen capabilities of this trinket.
The formula for calculating mana gained by spirit during a single tick of the server with
NO talents is…
(S/4) One fourth of your mana is converted to mana regen OUTSIDE the FSR.
1 tick is exactly 2 seconds. In order to convert the tick equation (mp2) to mana every five
((S/4) / 2) * 5 Converting to single seconds by dividing by two, and then to every 5 seconds by multiplying by 5.
Simplifying this out, that’s .625 (5/8) regen for every point of spirit.
So for the 300 spirit, that’s….
300 * .625 = 187.5 mp5.
The buff lasts 20 seconds. Leaving time for 4 mp5 ticks…
187.5 * 4 = 750 mana during the 20 seconds.
You will receive 750 every two minutes, assuming you pop this on cooldown as well as stay outside the FSR during those 20 seconds (using inner focus or clearcasting to maintain healing; if you must)
Should you be inside the FSR for the full 20 seconds (remember, assuming we do not have talents) you will receive a grand total of 0 mana from the 300 spirit. As the equation for inside FSR works like this…
L( ((S/4) / 2) * 5 ) L being the % regen you have within the FSR.
Using our simplified factor (.625)…
L ( S * .625 )
As you can see, L = 0% and so no regen. Now, factoring in Meditation….
.15 (s * .625) simplifies to .09375, our new in FSR factor.
Now comes the hard part.
Factoring in Meditation With a Number of mp5 Ticks (15% regen in FSR)
With 4 mp5 ticks within the 20 second period, you could stay inside the FSR for any number of them and the regen would change.
0 ticks Inside / 4 ticks Outside
0 + 750 = 750
1 ticks Inside / 3 ticks Outside
28.125 + 562.5 = 590.625
2 ticks Inside / 2 ticks Outside
56.25 + 375 = 431.25
3 ticks Inside / 1 tick Outside
84.375 + 187.5 = 271.875
4 ticks Inside / 0 ticks Outside
112.4 + 0 = 112.4
Factoring in Spirit of Redemption + Meditation (5% more spirit + 15% regen)
This ups the 300 spirit to 315. Meaning the individual outside FSR ticks become 196.875, upping the total mana regen to 787.5. Inside FSR becomes 29.53, and the full 4 ticks inside the FSR is a total of 118.125 mana.
Spiritual Guidance (25% spirit to +healing)
Without SoR, 300 * .25 = 75 +healing for the 20 seconds
With SoR, 315 * .25 = 78.75 +healing for 20 seconds.
Spiritual Guidance + Improved Devine Spirit (35% spirit to +healing)
Without SoR, 300 * .35 = 105 +healing for the 20 seconds
With SoR, 315 * .35 = 110.25 +healing for 20 seconds.
Comparison, Rejuvenating Gem (
) I choose this because it has the exact same amount of +healing. 66 +healing 9mp5.
Within 2 minutes Rejuv gem generates….
120 secs / 5 (for amount of mp5 ticks the gem will receive) = 24 ticks.
24 * 9 mana each = 216 mana every 2 minutes.
As the table above shows, if you have Meditation, you will regain 55.875 (with SoR, 69.469) more mana using the Earring and staying outside the FSR for a SINGLE tick, 5 seconds, during the period.
Should you be able to stay outside the FSR for the full 20 seconds, you will receive 534 (with SoR, 571.5) more mana the then the rejuv gem every two minutes.
In short, in a fight were you will have at least 5 seconds every 2 minutes to regen, the Earring of Soulful Meditation is superior to Rejuvenating Gem.
If you are a Priest who is stacking Spirit, you will already have more than enough to bring you back to full mana with an Innervate. I suggest using this every time it's up instead of saving it for Innervate. If anything, save it for times when you are outside of the FSR.
As a side note, with Kings this proc should yield 330 Spirit.
This trinket sucks, its priest-only and I want it on my druid :( We get some crappy thing that has a 2% chance to proc a +healing
Comparing to Fel Reavers Piston (the progressional equivalent to Earing):
Earring: +66 healing, about 600-700 mana return /120 sec = ~25-29 mp5 avg.
Piston: ~15% proc for 500 static heal*. 16 mp5
*This proc may seem equivalent to 75 +heal which would be more than the Earring has on it, however you have to keep in mind that this proc may just overheal your target, And it wont actually proc on 15% of casts due to the hidden cooldown. Also since this is a static effect and is not affected by our Empowered Healing talent which DOES affect the +66 healing on the Earing making it in effect +70 healing to the base of greater heal.
So in summary I suggest that you priests pass on the Piston to Paladins, Shamans and Druids and hold out for this earring like I did. <<Doing so just might make the Druids like you enough to innervate you when you ask, making this trinket Five Times sweeter!>>
Patch 2.3 will likely change priests meditation talent to 10%/20%/30% mana regen while casting (
That will make this trinket (and spirit in general), much more imba for priests.
This is actuly going to be one of the best trinkets for Shadowpriests in 2.3 as it will give 22 spell dmg And becuse of the 300 spirit bonus so if ur a SP and you specced spirit tap.. you shoud get this for fights with adds on..
Why oh why does this have the be a priest only trinket. When I, a resto druid, saw this first drop my jaw dropped but then I quickly recovered and noticed the class requirement and got very angry.
Blizz really screwed druids with the tier 5 and ashtongue class trinkets, they're not that good at all.
Using the data from the current build of 2.4 test center, my raid buffed priest with 618 intellect (your numbers will differ of course) gains about 348 MP5 non-casting while this trinket is activated. That's about 1400 mana every 2 minutes if I use it outside the FSR.
Current formula for spirit base mana regen is: Regen from spirit (while not casting) = sqrt(Intellect) / 21.45 * Spirit
I will edit this comment if they change the formula.
if im not mistaken the spirit mana per 5 while not casting was changed recently to almost 1-1 for priests. making this trinket 300 mp5 while not casting. combined with blue dragon card proc that would be insane! gunna have to do it on my priest asap.
This trinket gives at least
in regen and
(19 from the proc and raid buffs) overall.
A gain of 130 spirit gives 140 OOC MP5
This is used on a cast-heavy fight, where you're in the FSR 80% of the time.
You do not time Clearcasts, lulls in the healing, or Inner Focus to use the spirit-based regen more effectively.
This is used on cooldown, every 120 seconds.
30% regen while casting from Meditation. No Primal Mooncloth set bonus.
You have Blessing of Kings and Imp DS.
When procced, this trinket will give 300*1.10=330 spirit for 20 seconds. Using the Bangle MP5 I obtained above (Lurker has never dropped this beauty for our guild >.<) that gives 330/130*140 = 355 OOC MP5, and 355*0.30 = 106.5 IC MP5. With an 80% IC time, 20% OOC time, this nets 355*0.2 + 106.5*0.8 = 71 + 85.2 = 156.2 MP5 while active. Over 20 seconds, this yields 156.2*20/5 = 624.8 mana/proc. Given one proc every 2 minutes, this nets 624.8 mana/120 seconds = (624.8/24) mana / 5 seconds =
In the best case, let's assume you have a wonderful clearcasting streak, or heals aren't needed for 20 seconds, or whatever, and that you have 100% OOC during the proc. Then this nets 355 MP5 over 20 seconds = 1420 mana/proc =
Note that you can time this proc during an innervate to guarantee a full mana bar almost no matter what you cast during the innervate, though personally I get a full mana bar anyway. Add in either the Bangle of Endless Blessings or the Blue Dragon card procs and you'll get better-than-baseline performance from this trinket.
Also, 330 spirit gives 82.5 or 66 +30 = 112.5 or 96 +heal due to Imp DS and 5/5 or 4/5 Spiritual Guidance while the trinket is procced. Since it's active for 20 seconds/2 minutes or 1/6th of the time, this translates to an effective static +heal bonus of 18.75 with 5/5 or 16 +heal 4/5 Spiritual Guidance.
All in all with 5/5 Spiritual Guidance this trinket effectively gives 66+19 =
85 +heal and 26mp5
in the worst case
Is it worth it? IMO, oh my yes it is. This trinket was itemized before the huge increases in spirit-based regen and meditiation, so it effectively has wayyyy more item points than it should. Take advantage of that, and get this trinket whenever you can.
OMG giev this for my priest! whre it dops+
Mmm... on long fights, this combined with Bangle of Endless Blessings (15% chance for 15% of your mana to regen while casting, and grants +130 spirit on a 2min CD) are probably the two best trinkets for both healing and shadow priests.
From The Lurker Below in Serpentshrine Cavern
I'm going to have to disagree with freak on this one for shadow priests. We're almost never outside the 5sr, rendering our Spirit almost completely useless. Also, having those two trinkets equipped would take away 86 spell damage as opposed to having
Icon of the Silver Crescent
on. Leave this trinket to healing priests, imo.
what is this like the BWL Class Trinkets?
For human holy priests, +15% spirit means this will grant 253 spirit.
you only get the spirit tap if you personally have the killing blow on the target. if you are healing.. i doubt that is the case.. ever.
In 2.1 this Trinket does 40 Healing passive and the spirit was increased to 300.
just grabbed this trinket the other night and its @#$%ing awesome. combined with bangle of endless blessings, when they both proc i get +92healing and 120mp5 unbuffed.
i think people are overlooking/forgetting the fact that holy priest can use their talent points to gain a bonus to healing equal to a percentage of their spirit. I dont think the purpose of the trinket is to stop casting and gain mana for 10 seconds, when you could keep on casting and get one hell of a healing bonus. just thought id throw that out there.
wery nice for a holy priest.
300 spirit = 105 healing (35% spirit) same time.
187 mana 5 sec not casting (28 mana 5 sec while casting with meditation)
good regen, good healing.
300 spirit sucks? bangles like 150 so do them both at the same time 450 (unless bangle is less then 150 spirit
This + innervate= full mana, damn priests!
This is good with the darkmoon 100% regen card, just click this when it procs.
When you fight bosses where you could stay out of FSR for 20 secs or have a druid who innervates you at the same time its a great trinket.
If you need to pop a heal at least every 10 secs your better off with Warp-Scarab Brooch manaregen wise.
One thing to keep in mind on this trinket is effects that increase spirit:
10% - Kings
10% - Human racial
5% - Spirit of Redemption talent
So my actual spirit increase with this trinket when in a raid with kings and SoR (as human) is 382.
300 x 1.10 x 1.10 x 1.05 = 381.15 (shows as 382 on my char screen)
A nonhuman with kings and SoR would be:
300 x 1.10 x 1.05 = 346.5
If you manage to stay out of the 5-second rule for 20 seconds with this on, you'll get 345 extra spirit (15% extra over the 300 thanks to Kings and SoR talent), which translates into ~86 mana per tick. If you get 9 ticks of it during the 20 seconds, this means 776 extra mana thanks to the trinket.
There are a few ways to help your job as a healer during these seconds in which you can't spend mana: Dropping a Lightwell before using the trinket, using Bandages, and a single spell cast with Inner Focus on, are all alternatives.
If you manage to use this trinket effectively, you can theoretically get 776 mana every two minutes- much better than the ~110 mana you'll get from a Lower City Prayerbook every minute. Hard to use, yes, but add in the possibility of an Innervate, and this trinket is probably the best one out there for holy priests, followed by the Essence of the Martyr imo.
Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon is the best trinket to carry with this one, when you see it procs hit this trinket and no worries for 5sec rule ^^
Tried using this with sprit tap for a very low down time? or mb if theres lots of adds this plus bangle plus innerverate plus spirit tap plus SoR plus human racial passive means what?
This trinket's purpose isnt just for mana regen from spirit. For priests with Improved Divine Spirit, they'll get an additional 15 or so dmg/healing.
Though more specifically, for those with Spiritual Guidance, they get another 75 or so dmg/healing.
Not extremely much, but yeah.
Allow me to explain the gravity of this item, as so many of you seem ignorant to it's true potential. I shall explain this in pieces.
Bangle of Endless Blessings: Chance on spell cast to cause 15% of mana regeneration to continue while casting, use to increase your spirit by 130 for 20 seconds.
Earring of Soulful Meditation: Increases healing by 66, damage by 22. Use to increase spirit by 300 for 20 seconds.
Masquerade Gown: Chance on spell cast to increase spirit by 145 for 15 seconds.
Meditation: Allows 30% of your mana regeneration to continue while casting.
Divine Spirit: Increases spirit by 50.
Improved Divine Spirit: Converts 10% of your spirit into damage and healing.
Spiritual Guidance: Converts 25% of your spirit into damage and healing.
Spirit Tap: Upon killing a target that would give you experience or honor, your spirit is doubled for 15 seconds, and 50% of your mana regeneration will continue while casting.
(Optional) The Human Spirit: Increases spirit by 15%.
Now, allow me to explain what this all means. Due to the fact that trinkets donot trigger global cooldowns, one could effectively put them on a macro for a spell like Shadow Word: Death, something that you would use to make a killing blow. This way you can proc all spirit buffs, and double them at the same time. With Spiritual Guidance and Improved Divine Spirit, you get a total of 35% of your spirit as damage and healing. Which becomes 70% of the raw spirit, or 35% of the doubled spirit. Assuming you are wearing nothing else but the above items, you will have 1437 spirit with these effects procced. With gear you could get considerably more, but we'll stick with these. You can do the damage calculations with your gear after this. 35% of 1437 spirit is 503 damage and healing (569 healing, 525 damage with the passive bonus from this trinket). There are NO trinkets in this game that give that much damage, and combining two is impossible as they trigger 20-second cooldowns on related trinkets. Furthermore, during this time you will be getting 160% of your standard mana regeneration while casting (50% of doubled spirit equals 100%, 30% of mana regen on double spirit equals 60% of normal spirit). Which would be 190% if the Bangle of Endless Blessings procs, and a straight 200% if you stop casting.
200% mana regen on 1437 bonus spirit is quite a feat. This can be done EVERY 2 minutes. Combine this with a talent like Power Infusion, and your damage output would become immense. Gear for spirit, maximize your damage. I estimate one could easily pull 2000 spirit during this time, making 700 spell damage and healing.
A new dps priest is in town, and he ain't Shadow. It's leet that he can pick up on heals too. And he doesn't run out of mana...ever. Spirit effects every 2 minutes, Shadowfiend every 5, why would you ever need potions?
Seal of the Crusader with that gear would kick ass.
Lolidins useful? maby?
