This item drops in Mt. Hyjal
96 stamina is quite amazing.
In addition to Esidny's calculation this gives 1480 HP.
SotF(1.03)xHotW(1.2)xBearform(1.25)x96 = 148.32 stam.
Which one is better Staff of Disintegration
or Pillar of Ferocity
(i mean this staff)
for feral druids
i am griding with my druid for 4th stage now. if you plan on playing a druid somehow get the first 3 asap. you will feel the difference when you have these weapons. A must list for ferals
haha, now I only need to kill Anetheron... on Anetheron... thats just ironic... I have to kill my server to get this HAWT weapon... get it, slap a nice 35 agility chant on it and im set.
This staff really compliments druid T5 in that it looks quite similar to nordrassil set...
This staff is extremely disappointing. It lacks agility making it a sidegrade at best from wildfury and its probably not even better than the stranglestaff for dps for the same reasons. They need to take away 10-15 str and 20 or so stam and add some agility. It'd then be pretty much perfect.
ok guys, i know this is not the best place to post it but, i need to know something about all that you guys are talking about, first of all forgive my english, im brazilian so, i dont speak it very well. ( my char is a feral druid lvl 67).
ok here are my doubts:
1- What is mitigation points?
2- Where can i see them (mit points) or how could i calculate them?
3- How can i calculate attack power? (because i dont even know which is better for my feral druid, str or ap).
4- People in internet says something about resilience, and a minimum aceptable to tank druids not get hit by criticals...Could someone explain me about that too?
I apreciate the help and knowledge about this game
"Also honestly I do not understand the "+hit" part of the DPS comments."
I'll explain it to you. Most of the prime Feral gear lacks hit-- the Tier sets don't come with bulk amounts of hit, and most of the prime Feral rings lack this stat as well (for example, the Ancestral Ring of Conquest), not to mention cloaks (Razorscale Battlecloak). Getting the 5-6% to-hit mark is easy granted a weapon that has a decent chunk of hit rating on it, since it's such a sparse stat on most of the gear intelligent Feral Druids will be rocking. Without a weapon boasting hit rating, Feral Druids will likely have to waste sockets on hit rating gems over more useful gems just to get the proper amount needed.
That and the fact that this staff lacks crit make it a pretty weak option for DPS. I'd prefer getting the Season 2 Maul over this.
You find it hard to accept because you don't do your homework. Consider that none of our Tier sets boast more than 27 hit rating across five items. Then consider that the accessory items geared towards Feral Druid DPS (Mithril Chain of Heroism, Ancestral Ring of Conquest, Adal's Command, Razorscale Battlecloak, Belt of Natural Power) boast absolutely zero hit rating.
It's easy to substitute different items in place of these just to achieve hit rating, but those items are generally weaker in all other aspects to the prime Feral Druid items you'd be replacing. It would also be easy to install hit rating gems in all possible slots on your armor, which frankly wouldn't be that big a deal, but I know I'd rather not feel forced into having to do so.
It's because of how sparse hit rating is on items that are clearly geared towards Feral Druid DPS that I'm considering taking Leatherworking just for the Boots of Natural Grace.
To your first comment-- Druids need about 7-8% to hit, or 5% depending on who you talk to. Personally, I've found that anything less than 7 produces too many yellow misses to be acceptable in a raid environment. That takes roughly 120-ish hit rating. For me, a good chunk of that total comes from my weapon slot; as it's not an easy road, fighting to get hit rating on the rest my item slots, I think I'd prefer having a weapon that boosts said stat.
To tack on to what Jwallace said, to be considered 'uncrittable' is to get your defense rating up so that, when you mouse over it, it says that you have a 5.6% chance to not be crit (Given the damage table of raid bosses). If you want to be uncrittable as a druid you're almost obligated to invest into survival of the fittest 3/3 which adds 3% uncrittable to whatever your defense rating is, though it will not show in the tooltip. Given the talent, it takes 415 defense to be uncrittable by raid bosses.
This is the druid tier 5 staff. Not that it is part of the set, just for the fact that it is matching and goes well with the druid feral tier 5 set stat wise
I am finding that the majority of our weapon itemization are disappointing. Without any form of agility this weapon is not worth equipping. I will stick with my Feral Staff of Lashing since I am at the ac cap, uncrittable, and would rather stack agility then pure stamina at this point.
I bet this is one of Blizzard's famous misclicks when they choose stats for items.
Exchange the STR with AGI and it's perfect for tanking.
The upgrades from Wildfury Greatstaff would be:
Pillar of Ferocity (With AGI insted of STR)
+ 50 armor (+ 94 armor from agi)
+ 26 STA
+ 0,55% dodge
+ 95 bear/cat AP
Which is actually pretty decent upgrade :))
This might be a sidegrade from wildfury in the damage mitigation department but what about the other side of tanking... threat generation. This staff wins hands down in the threat generation department.
If you are having ANY problems with aggro generation, you're either not feral, or made some poor choices with talents.
This is the "bonus piece" of Druid Tier 5, which compliments the set in both stats and appearance.
Four classes have Tier 5 weapons as of patch 2.2:
, and Druid.
New stast in 2.3.0
136 - 293
(71.5 Damage per second)
Equip: Incerases attack power by 1059 in Cat, Bear, Dire Bear, and Moonkin forms only.
This item got a major buff in patch 2.3, FAP increased from 826 to 1059.
This weapon adds 1268.3 attack power while in cat with HotW as of 2.3
The best-itemised dps Feral staves have a mix of dps stats, i.e. a nice mix of agi, str, crit, hit, feral combat skill and feral attack power. This has only 2 of them.
It therefore gets little advantage from its high item level by using its item budget on just 3 stats.
By my calculations, if the stave gave up 50 stamina, it could gain 36 agility and 25 hit rating, making it vastly superior for kitty dps, which is what it appears to be designed for.
Ugh, Earthwarden is not even frigging close to this staff, stop comparing them. Nearly 60 stamina unbuffed plus much more Atp (and therefore aggro) annihilates the dodge and expertise amount from the hammer.
Dodge is Mitigation.
Armor and Health is viewed as Survivability, because they are reliable.
Blizzard's plan for high end itemization for Feral Druid Tanks is not just focused on damage mitigation, but also threat generation. More dodge means less threat and less rage - this is not realiable. On some point one might agree with Blizzard, except for the fact that a lot of Ugrades have nerfed stats in comparison to the items they are an upgrade for.
I would not recommend going above 35% dodge selfbuffed in Bear Form, because it is bound to result in failure since no rage will be gained in some occations. Therefore Armor is favoured as damage mitigation since predictable damage is more reliable for a raid. If you want to up your dodge percentage, then you should have an equal amount of +chance to hit, when dodge goes above 35% as I explained earlier.
To last - Feral Druid itemization is a bit effed up, but we'll manage.
I'm soon exalted (one Hyjal left) and I never seen it drop. I feel kinda unlucky. ^^
This weapon is the lament of feral tanks everywhere. There's a really good calculator here
which calculates how valuable a certain weapon is in bear or cat form. As you can see, Pillar is still the best tank weapon, but only by the tiniest of margins. If you can't get it, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. For cat dps, it is actually a significant upgrade over Wildfury. On a side note, we can start to see how poorly feral tank weapons have been designed when a level 64 blue is #4 on the list of best feral tank weapons in the game.
Change the str for agi and its the best tanking weapon.
Pretty sure rawr rates these both as pretty equal in tanking leveling. If I seriously needed the dodge I'd switch back to the wildfury.
In my opinion, this item would be much better off with 47 AGI instead of the STR. I think most feral druids would prefer having over 3% dodge given by AGI over the 94 attack power provided by STR.
I currently have Wildfury Greatstaff, which is inferior with regard to Armor and STA; however, I would lose a significant amount of dodge, if I were to start using this staff.
Blizzard, change the STR on this item to AGI please.
While this staff is excellent (yes, so is
), I'm upset that Druid tanks have been shafted since the ~140 iLevel bracket (see:
Few, if any, other specs (across all classes) have been shafted as badly.
Simply put, Blizzard is making it clear that Druids are
to be considered end-game Main Tanks.
Agility is a much much more important stat for a druid, tank or dps, instead of strength.
Please Blizzard, change it to 47 agility.

Worst I've ever seen is a Priest using this. And on the reply on why, he said:
"Do you think I only do PvE?"
I'm assuming this drops in The Black Temple.
hmm.. I went to the PTR realm today and saw a druid having this, and it said it increase attackpower with 1059.
According to Thott this drops from Anetheron in Hyjal.
Cat form staff... Still prefer Earthwarden for pure tanking - +defense and +feral attack skill should mean getting hit less often and hitting those pesky bosses a little more often.
God damn, 550 armor AND 96 stamina, good AP too, but this looks primarily like a tanking staff. This should go to warlocks first, for arena 5v5, of course! Seriously though, all the furries are gonna love this.
Drops of Anetheron, the second boss of Hyjal Summit.
Almost 1000 health just from one staff.
makenzie,go suck yourself,is sais " Increases attack power by 826 in Cat, Bear, Dire Bear, and Moonkin forms only. " so now or you are stupid or very stupid
Hyjal boss Anetheron drops this one :)
Druid for the ultimate no holds bar totally wicked pwn your face bear form win. wowowowowowowowwowow
those are amazing stats, the armor and stam are good enough, but then adding in 920 AP in feral forms (about 65 more DPS) and you have one wicked staff
keep in mind that you could still put +35 agi or savagery to give it a little extra kick (not that it needs it)
This made me cry because I didn't roll a druid.
i think i speak for everyone when i say DAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! HOLY SHIZINIT this wep was brought down by the druid gods.
Lets see, for feral tauren druid in dire bear form:
Staff: 96 stamina
Survival of the fittest talent: +3% (98.88 stam)
Increased stamina from dire Bear form: +25% (123.6)
Heart of the wild talent: +20% (148.32)
1 stam = 10 health: 1483.2 Health
Tauren Racial Passive: +5% (1557.35)
Thick Hide: +10% (605 arm)
Increased Armor in dire Bear form: +400% (3025 arm)
I might be wrong about the heart of the wild bonus...
Great item anyways =)
For you idiots who think this isn't the best feral druid staff in the game... just die... die.
This gives close to 1000 ap with the str bonus in it, the stamina = amazing, and the armor = amazing as well. Put a +35 agil enchant on it and I would take this staff over any other for bear OR catform. Terestrian's and Wildfury can lick my balls.
96 stam is just insane for a staff
need more stam :)
Was stupid enough to duel a drood with this and a +35 agi enchant on it.
I was just able to get CoA and Corruption on him by the time he'd eaten his way through my 8k HP - i was mildly ashamed =(
This is the feral druid legendary. It's in purple print, but we all know it should be orange.
When hyjal came out right before this summmer and saw that this staff droped... this is exactly what i did...............i picked up the phone, called my cousin. I asked him if he wanted to trade his 70 ferel druid for my lvl 70 war(arms) with full t4. He exepted, i put down the phone and ran to the bathroom before pissing myself..................................3 months later i have this on my druid.
All i have to say was that was the best phone call i ever made other than calling my mom to tell her my first son was born
OMG roll a druid!1
i won't lie, this is a nice staff and i'd probably use it on trash or when i pvp. but it's not a true tank staff, nor is it a true dps staff. it's a hybrid weapon meant to be used for dps as well as tanking.
bear druids don't need a large amount of ap to hold aggro. sure it helps but it's not needed. cat druids need agi and hit in addition to strength/ap. sure 96 stamina is nice but it's not needed when you're not getting hit. i have 10k health unbuffed in my dps gear. buffed that's like 12k. if i'm getting hit hard enough by aoe or whatever to kill me, then the extra 1k health isn't going to make much of a difference.
the new primal man-catcher is pretty much a crappier version of this staff. strength/stamina/feral attack power and their new favorite stat of ignoring armor. great another hybrid weapon that people can choose to use for whatever purpose they want.
me? i'd rather keep my 40% dodge while tanking bosses rather than lose 2 dodge and gain 36 more stam. i guess it's really up to you but no matter what you say, this is a hybrid staff. and since you can change weapons in combat, a hybrid staff is just plain useless unless you're too lazy to switch weapons. on bosses you know for xxx amount of time i'm going to be a bear and tank xxx mob. you should be smart enough to make a macro or just drag the weapon on your bar and right click it when you're ready to switch roles. so there really is no reason to ever use a hybrid weapon.
what would make me smile from ear to ear? if they changed the strength to agility... then it would be quite amazing for tanking.
I figure this is a hybrid staff.... Well there is actually no doubt that it is. By comparison S2 better for dps by a long way. IMO Wildfury better for tanking.
People who dont have a clue might say "well what about using it for fights where you play both rolls" if you are in a guild good enough to beat this encounter (let alone get up to it) then you should have mastered the ability to switch weapons/idols in combat.
In conclusion. When this drops I will take it for the minimum dkp bid and not for anymore simply because I will cross my fingers and hope that they add some agi to it so that it could potentially be a tanking staff... either that or add agi + hit and it can be a dps staff atm its a cool graphic.
this item has the most stamina on the game, inc armmor, just thort id let u all know
this item has the most stamina on the game, inc armmor, just thort id let u all know
sure vengeful staff gives 1220 AP or something, but it costs 3750 Arena points and rating of 1850... just go guild raid and down anetheron end of story... if you dont get it take it out on someone else
This is not a good weapon for any raiding druid in MH/BT guild.
Wildfury Greatstaff beats this weapon hands down with alomost 3% more dodge. That 275 more armor and 300hp doesn't make up fot that loss. The extra AP also doesn't matter, threat is not a problem for a druid tanking any instance, atm T5 and over 2000AP unbuffed in full tank gear, i dont need more AP.
This weapon would be a very nice upgrade if those 47 strength was 47 agility instead, but as it is now it ain't worth loosing 3% dodge for it.
For pure dps even Terestian's Strangestaff is better for dps. Hit/crit etc makes it better, even though i recommend every druid to get their hands on S2 Maul or even S3 staff.
There are flowers that intermittently bloom on the top portion vines.
Def the best tanking weapon in the game. Eventually, yes it gets to the point were so much dodge mitigates to where after a dodge the boss has a %chance to hit you. With proper gear your dodge should be around 50% , 75% with cooldowns depending on what Cd's you use. The the stam ,as well ,as huge threat increase helps both dps'r to dps alot harder and faster as well as the health increase and armor increase. While the armor is little , it still helps you get closer to that lvl 73 reduction cap as well as let's you replace some armor class gear for more defense/dodge gear , which we all know feral tier gear seriously lacks in the defense department. Add that the the kitty dps that this thing dishes out, and well as the dps you can help with after you've OT'd something and switch to kitty before leaving combat. This staff is still the 2nd best in game, and only stupid druids that don't have it yet QQ about it. I have it, it fukin' rox. And to top it off .. flowers growing out of it , I mean , c'mon , groovy as hell , hands down .
Just wanted to add , I have Teres staff and this. The Pillar outputs more dmg. Calcalate with a mod yourself. Ask a prot warrior to let you beat the shizz out of him. Or just load a mod during Tidewalker, either way the Pillar outputs more dmg. If you think the hit makes other staffs better, than you obviously do not know how to properly equip yourself and should've hit the "hit" cap a long time ago . No druid should depend on hit on their main weapon to get to the cap unless they lack it somewhere else. S2/3 are dps staff's for pvp , and shouldn't be considered for raiding unless you're guild isn't in Hyjal and you can't get this staff yet for raiding.
plz tell me that those non druids ctrl+rightclicked the staff and are just showing them to be funny because if they actually have that as a staff I would honestly /spit on them if I could. gggrrrr... I'm a DOORID!
a rogue on my server ninja'd this cuz he thought it would be funny..he got banned two hours later. ^_^
This weapon is ok...but not great. For pure tanking the SSC staff is better.
If only this thing had agi over str. Damn blizz for being ^&*!@#ed.
Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible, just not T6 quality.
