If the item graphic is any indication this is the Tier 5 weapon meant to complement the Tier 5 Warlock set.
Seen here -
I pity you all. Unless it says "Class:______", i'm about posotive it can go to ANY CLASS that can wield one-handed swords. Does it pertain to ANY CLASS that can wield one-handed swords? No.
Druids - Can't use swords.
Hunter - Won't benefit much from it. Still could actually benefit from it though i believe.
Mage - Could really easily benefit from it. The spell damage is gargantuan if you ask me. Not to mention the crit and spell hit.
Paladin - Could easily benefit from it. For Holy (Damage) spec, or Protection tanking.
Priest - (Shadow) Could benefit from it. The crit chance isn't as high of importance, with only 2 shadow spells than can crit i believe (Mind Blast and Shadow Word: Death).
Rogue - Won't benefit.
Shaman - Can't use swords.
Warlock - Would benefit nearly as much as a mage. Even moreso if they were Destruction, as they could take advantage of the Spell crit.
Warrior - Won't benefit.
Please, don't even say what class gets priority.
Stop the class discussion, it's an weapon that many classes can make use of, including Warlocks,Mages and eventually an paladin that doesn't like to heal.
Very nice weapon, the graphic makes me melt!
@to Khaosreign: Why isn't it a warlock weapon? we benefit from the stamina, the intellect, the spelldmg, the hitrating, and the crit rating is good in some situations, either if you are Destruction (depnedant of crits), also most warlocks use shadowbolt/incinerate when they got all dot's up, and that means you could have use of it.
It's obvious that in the same level spell weapons the off-hand is so bad that stuff is better than one hand.
You can see it in Arena Rewards easily, and the stuff is cheaper.
Do you think so?How did blizzard design like that
Pretty hilarious how many (most likely mages and warlocks) presses minus on replies because it doesn't fit their vision.
This isn't thottbot people. I see that every comment regarding paladin tanks is getting flooded with negatives.
Does anyone else not particularly like the graphic for this? I mean yes its distinctive and I understand the chaotic look but it just looks sloppy and a bit over the top in the pictures provided. I must say blizzards models have gone down a bit (im not a fan of really any of the tier 6 armor)
This item is actually way off-budget. It actually comes out to ilvl164 (!!), a full 13 ilvl's above the listed, which partly explains why this blows the Naj'entus dagger (which is right on the mark, ilvl141) out of the water as much as it does. Spriests, elemental shammies, and doomkin everywhere lament at our lack of a comparable weapon :/
Since it hasn't been mentioned, this item matches the theme and look of warlock tier 5. This is just in looks mind you, any class can use it.
only pet peeve i have, why does this weapon graphic look like it belongs with a warlock? Have the mages been all but forgotten as a caster dps class and not deserving of a unique weapon too?
The screenshot is a Tempest enchanted with
, it doesn't glow like that by default.
This sword appears to be best Caster weapon currently in game in light of stats.
Annoying is that it seems to aling with Warlock tier 5 Armor set, while Paladin equalent gives only superior boost to healing, which is useful for many clases.
For some reason I am starting to hate that one class is favored above others and that class is dances with demons in pale moonlight.
Comapred with Zhar'doom, Greatstaff of the Devoured(
So I'd actually prefer Zhar'doom, Greatstaff of the Devourer
But condering that drops from Illidan and its BoP I'd stick with Tempest until.
Actually the best dps increase stat after hit rating is haste rating so after someone have 30%~ self buff crit and hit cap, increasing the haste rating is the wisest choise. Zhar'Doom can outdps Cronicle of secrets and Tempest of chaos for the simple reason that when u get those two things you are already far from hit capped. Haste rating all the way.
as of the screenshots the warrior sword is = s3 one handed sword
mage is s3 spell blade
the shammy one are the fists of fury the new 2.4 set
This weapon now has a superior in the form of Sunflare which drops from Kil'jaeden and has dropped 2/3 times in the first three kills which leads us to believe it may have a good drop rate.. or Blizzard just teasing casters.
Give this to a pali tank and take bets on how many of your mages and locks /gquit. This really should go to a Destro lock since they need to cap their spell hit without talents, or a fire mage since they only gets 3% hit from talents.
Pali tanks have lots of options, like the 1h mace that drops off of
in the same instance,
Hammer of Judgement
, instead of waiting for a highly coveted Mage/Lock drop off of arguably the hardest boss before Sunwell (imo the unforgiving nature of the Archimonde encounter coupled with the high level of randomness makes it a tougher encounter than Illidan or anything else before Sunwell for that matter). Palis can also get the
The Hammer of Judgement even matches the Pali t5 set if that gives you any sort of hint about a class that might benefit from it. The same way that this sword matches the Lock t5.
And Spell Hit rating is a great threat stat for Pali tanks, btw.
if you give this to a caster and the pali is still using his old weapon, the casters will rip the mobs off of him because of the threat, think of the good of the raid in whole, not the good of the caster
Tell more lies please. "rip the mobs off of him" because the pali is using the trash mace and a lock is using this weapon. Yeah right.
That's exactly what I'm saying. As far as alternatives go, the hammer will drop 100x off of trash before you see one of these, the hammer being a weapon that locks and mages can't even use, and this sword won't make or break any pali's TPS when compared to the hammer. I think that every single caster in our guild that can can equip maces have one of the trash hammers laying around, even our holy priests and resto druids.
This sword is an upgrade for any mage/lock not in Sunwell or sporting OP Brutal Gear, period. For Palis this sword is more of a sidegrade and would be most useful if you enchant it with Soulfrost and equip it while standing around in shatt in order to tick off all of the mages and destro locks who don't have it.
This sword is the best pally tanking weapon in the game other than the S4 gavel. Whether you should prioritize giving it to them over mages and warlocks is not relevant to the discussion here and is up to the individual guilds. Plenty of guilds have gotten more than enough ToC drops to give one to everyone who wants it. So any posts here regarding the argument are going to continue to get rated down and deleted, because it's pointless and stupid.
Drops off Illidan?
drops off Archimonde
WOW... where does this sword drop...
lol lots of dps on this weapon. just hope you don't hit a 16 in front of everyone

It doesn't drop off illidan. Illidan drop a staff which is
along with some tokens and god-damn-freakish epics and legendary dual blade. The loot is here
super nice blades. xD
Very nice 1-hand for mages ;-)
Atlas says it drops in CoT Mt Hyjal
Why is it that the best Paladin tanking weapon is also wanted by mages and warlocks. Now I'll keep using my Continuum Blade till Archimond drops this and all Mages and Warlocks have it already.
There are two lesser epic weapons that will do fine, but it are caster weopons too :S
Tempest of Chaos w/ Chronicle of Dark Secrets (off-hand):
+34 Spell Hit (2.7%)
+47 Spell Crit (2.1%)
+301 Spell Damage
Zhar'doom, Greatstaff of the Devourer (Illidan drop)
+36 Spell Crit (1.6%)
+55 Spell Haste (2.6%)
+259 Spell Damage
Don't be ridiculous. If you think a prot pally should stick to 5-mans, then you've just never seen a good prot pally. Good (and I specify "good") prot pallies are now tanking in all major raid instances short of Hyjal and BT... and I imagine the only reason I haven't heard of any pallies tanking in there is because there's still only a couple of guilds in there IN THE FIRST PLACE.
And in order for a pally to continue to maintain his threat lead over the dps as they scale up their spell damage with better weapons, he ALSO has to scale up HIS spell damage with a better weapon. Don't be a bunch of greedy %^&*es... be good to your tanks if you want them to keep you safe.
nubs and kids will never see this weapon...and for all of you fighting over it, you'll probably never see it other than here on thottbot. so shut up, go play and maybe get into a guild good enought to see this. and if you still fight about it...you'll probably get booted from the guild anyway so who cares.
Drops from archimonde in the hyjal summit
*cough* u wont roll in Hyjal... it will simply be handed to the person with the highest DKP or Status in the guild..
Prot spec pallies depend on +spell damaeg alot more than the physical DPS of a weapon to not only hold aggro but to deal damage as well. Holy damage is dealt to enemies from so many sources on a prot pally.
I reflect tons of damage with...
I deal holy damage from...
seal of righteousness
judging said seal of righteousness
hammer of wrath
Every last one of these is enhanced tremendously by ANY +spell damage. The white physical damage from my one handed weapon is minuscule in comparison even if I were to wield the highest one handed dps weapon in the game.
So in closing I would like to bring to your attention that any smart prot specced pally is gonna roll need on this.
Thank you for your momentary attention.
ok lets just settle this, first of all to everyone who says that a guild killing archimonde isnt gonna have any prot pallies thats just stupid, there are two guilds on my server that are killing him and they both have prot pallies, second of all, even if it is a great sword for a prot pally, it should never *EVER* go to a prot pally above a mage or a warlock, anyone who says that is just stupid, only after every warlock and mage in ur guild gets this should ur prot pally(s) get this.
I recently stumbled upon some information regarding +spell damage and its actual effect on paladin spells as of 2.2... Here's a list.
9.2% to Seal of Righteousness with a 1hander
10.8% to Seal of Righteousness with a 2hander
73% to Judgement of Righteousness
76% to Consecration
40% to Hammer of Wrath
So then, do you want 6.7 more DPS on your weapon, or said +56 spell damage? Bearing in mind that it will also help your healing just that little bit more, since Holy Light gains around 70% of healing, and FoL gains around 40%.
The idiocy inherent in these comments humors me greatly. Please, continue fighting about which class needs this more so I can get some more laughs in.
As a prot pally, this would be a nice to have because of the insane spell damage and nice stats. But really, to hold threat, it's not really required by anyone who knows what he's doing and has the gear to do it.
And as for warrior being a better tank vs solo (or any) mobs, i say lets have a tank off and see who gets to be aggro king.
I always manage to hold aggro using just a Crystalforged Sword with +40spldmg in normal heroics. Some smart-ass wanna-be tank always wants to have a go at putting in some sly remark about pally tanks. Oops, accidentally lost righteous fury there, oh sorry, you're dead. Meh.
What alot of people fail to realise is tanking isn't about who's doing the most damage or crits the highest. It's about controlling the mob(s) and maintaining their aggro so that the ones who *can* do the damage can do so without having some mob hitting on them while they tear down the mobs/bosses.
There is no *better* tank. Each class is suited to a particular situation. That's why high level instances now require different tanks at different stages of the instance. And in raids we often have 2 tanks change rolls depending on the situation.
In a pug, if you need it (obviously not in this instance), use common courtesy and ask if you can need roll it. If you don't play a certain class, refrain from making comments about the class until you have some experience in that class.
It amazes me how almost every weapon in this site always ends in debates over which class a weapon is suited for. And i'm sorry to say in most cases, 99% of the people saying it's not for you it's for me really don't have an idea wtf they are on about.
Good thing you won't ever lead a guild that will even get close to Hyjal.
Good luck against Moroes btw :]
Protection Paladins definitely do benefit a lot from this item. The guild I am in has some understanding warlocks and mages. They realize that the easiest way for them to be able to do more damage is to allow the tank(s) to generate more threat. They have agreed that they will not just pass the blade to me, but they will not whine if / when i do outbid them.
Ultimately, it is up to each individual guild to decide what they want to do with it.
This game is purely about looks. This would look good on any class :)
With all this arguing going on i am surprised that no one observed until now.
It's a HUNTER WEAPON !
I do agree that this sword is beneficial for the paladin class, however, there are other similar weapons that would suit a prot paladin better than this one. Another thing is that mages a warlocks are restricted to the use of very few weapons; staves, swords, and daggers. This weapon happens to be one of those three types. Paladins on the other hand, have the benefit of using many other weapons, including MACES! There happens to be a mace that is perfect for prot paladins and someone above posted a link to it, hunt through the page and you will soon find it. Also, for warlocks and mages, spell damage is the name of the game, its all we do! For paladins, there are other talent choices they can choose from that don't rely quite as heavily on spell damage, and for prot anyway, spell damage is important but still not as necessary as it is for mages and warlocks. Sorry to rain on your parade paladins, but this weapon is cut out for casters.
Don't be an idiot. Mages/Locks/SPs always, always, ALWAYS get casters swords first. Prot pallies wanting to roll need on this sword.....how absurd. AND, since when does a guild that is actually organized enough to kill Archimonde FREE ROLL on loot off of bosses like him? Idiotic. You, my good sir, are an imbicile.
All i have to say is it looks pimp on anyone because it is pimp . lol
